[Q] New Facebook friends and People hub?

Hi All,
Does anyone know how often the People Hub checks Facebook to see if you've added new friends? Is there any way you can force it to "update"? I've recently added a few friends, but they have yet to show up in my contacts / People hub...
Any help appreciated!

Try Settings -> Email & Accounts -> Long Press on your Facebook account and click sync in the context menu.

I haven’t connected the People Hub to my Facebook (yet).
However, I’m getting Facebook updates in the hub because my Windows Live is linked to my Facebook.
So…how does it all work? If I connect my Facebook well I have a duplicate of events. Shall I disconnect my Facebook from my Windows Live? What do people recommend?
Also, with regards to syncing – if you press and hold the “what’s new” title a refresh box pops open.

i have facebook and windows live connected to facebook and both syncing to phone... don't see double ups of events.

I have my Facebook account setup and my Live connected to Facebook, there are no duplicates. I'm guessing when both are present its smart enough to just use one source.

I’m currently trying to decide what to do with my Windows Live profile. It’s good having the contacts linked with Facebook, but don’t know if it needs to be a ‘second Facebook’. It’s my email first and foremost.
Everything I upload to Skydrive doesn’t need to be shared with Facebook.

You can (and should) disable that in the Facebook settings on Windows Live.

Yes, I'm coming to the same conclusion. Windows Live does have layers of privacy, so it's not that which concerns me. It's more so that I don't need a second facebook.
Any particular reason why you've disable FB in Windows Live?

I didn't disable FB, I just disabled Windows Live from automatically posted pictures to FB Seems dangerous for every pic you take to go to Windows Live and thus to FB. Not all pics need to be public.
That said, I'm not really sure what you mean about having a second facebook. You mean in the phone? I've got FB linked, I have my FB account added, AND I have the FB app

Nah, I was referring to how my Facebook posts were appearing on my Windows Live Profile page... I've changed it so that's no longer the case.
The way Microsoft has integrated Facebook with Windows Live confuses me. A lot of what Microsoft does confuses me - but I generally like their products.
WP7 - very smooth.
Edit: For example; I use Twitter & and Foursquare - yet they can't by integrated with Windows Live. Microsoft's goal of making Windows Live a 'one stop shop' for social networking feeds is a fail!

Your facebook account is connected to your Windows Live account at Live.com ...

Mango beta - windows live chat

Anyone got this to work?
I can receive messages but i cant see who is online :/

the same happens to me ...

How can you actually set that up? Or did it work automatically for your Live Messenger accounts on your phone? When I go to Messaging and Settings, I do see "Facebook Chat" On/Off, but nothing for Live Messenger?
Edit: I am using 2 Windows Live accounts: 1 "phone" account, which has 0 Live Messenger contacts. And my "normal" ('old') Live Messenger accounts which does have a whole bunch of Messenger contacts.
Edit 2: I guess it currently only looks at your 'main' account's Live Messenger Contacts, and not the other Live accounts. I do have contact sync set-up for all accounts, and they do show up in my contact list. Just none of my contacts which get their details from my account which is filled with Live Messenger contacts, gets an option "Live Messenger" or something like that under Text (where I do see SMS/Facebook).

U can only set-up the "phone" contacts list.. in your case means 0 contacts...
it was also my situation... I added few contacts just to try the LM chat, but I can't see them online...
on the app hub forum I'm not the only one having this bug...

Ok, thanks for the info. I do hope they change it so that it also looks at Live Messenger contacts from all your accounts, not just you 'main' account. A lot of ppl have different Live Messenger accounts and I guess they would like to use them all ;-)
In my case my "phone" account was a new one because I had to set it up for Zune as being in the US to be able to download Apps from Marketplace (I'm in Holland which didn't/doesn't have a Marketplace yet - so using my old, Dutch Live account would have been a waste (ie no apps

I am having the exact same problem. Everybody sees my status and can initiate a chat with me, but I don't see anybody online :S

Looks like it is only possible to chat via your main Live Messenger Account in Mango.. I have an older secondary account with about 100 contacts and I see nothing in the messages tile for them even when I know they are online... My primary account I use for Xbox Live and Zune... with no Live Messenger contacts.. Obviously both accounts work ok for email..
Am I missing something???

Nope, you're actually not missing anything. Chat will only work for your primary live id.

Well that's not great !!! and they are trying to block devs making WINDOWS LIVE CHAT apps when their native one will have zero flexibility... Another crazy idea...

just like xbox live only works for primary live id... why wouldnt use ur older one as primary ?

I have the same problem. I am from India and I had set up a new live id with a fake US address when I got wp7 last year so that I could use the app store and other features. Though I use another live id as my main live id and have been using that since ages. So all my contacts, etc. are on that ID.
Now I can't use that ID on mango to logon to messenger. That sucks.
Any work around for that?

That is, aside from downloading a separate app like Messenger by Miyowa and logging in with that.

[Q] How to get windows live messenger to work

I have a HTC HD7 with mango, but although I have a hotmail account (which I use for MSN) it only gives me the options to sync emails, and I cant find anyway to enable messenger on it, anyone know how this is done on mango? or if it is even possible?
Im sure it supposed to work like the facebook chat but i dont appear to have an option for it (my facebook chay DOES work).

It's not in the settings as it's activated by default. Just change your status in the messaging hub to anything but "Offline"" and you should see your Messenger contacts that are online.

tried that but it doesnt show any of my msn contacts, I even tried playing around with my filter options (for the people hub contacts) and none of my MSN buddies or in the list.
also when you press the icon with the 2 arror buttons (left/right arrows) it only gives options of TXT and Facebook, it foesnt give a messenger option.

i have the same problem on my HD7. the 'onlline' tab only shows my friends from facebook chat and not WLM.. and i dont know why

is your windows live account the one you used to sign into the phone? go to home.live.com and see if you can see and chat with your friends online via hotmail....

After I updated to mango I had to hard reset my phone and everything worked.

Yup that might help too. Also have to make sure the MAIN Windows Live ID that your phone is signed into is the one you use for Messenger. If you've added additional Windows Live IDs, you'll get e-mails/calendar/contacts..etc but not Messenger.

It works reasonably well for me (the first message you get in a convo has an annoying tendency to to go the phone and not to the PC, which is a pain if you're signed on to both at once. The real problem, though, is that it only works with the primary WLID. Such a waste of a good feature.

[Q] Changing main phone account through the registry?

So.. I used my windows live account for my phone... and for some reason it detected it as if I lived in the USA... So now I can't add my bank card to my account and I can't buy applications.
I created a new account to set my country to Mexico (I already did this in zune.net). The problem now is that I would like to change the main account from my phone so I can buy applications without having to reset my phone.
I have an LG Quantum, so I can access the registry editor using the MFG app.
Anyone knows how to do this?

What is the difference between the email and the user?
Do you know if it is possible to change to use a messenger account for messaging that is different from the main account?

lol ... after actually trying this out... it didn't work and it screwed my accounts xD
it is good I remembered the original value for those fields so maybe I can fix it =)
The fields seem to have an id instead of the email of the account... maybe this would work if I could get the id from my other account :O

And also... Do I have to do those 3 changes, or just the last one?

So.... it didn't work for me... again xD
Now I can't config contacts nor accounts... and I can't access my email...
It really sucks how microsoft restricts your account to only one country... u__u

Yesterday I found what Marketplace and game hub stop working, and asking for password with old email (LiveID?). So, I found the third entry and now all Live-services working fine, including Zune. It's 100% true.

I'm using an LG quantum and I edit the registry through the MFG application (it has a registry editor)
I actually wanted to be able to change my main account because for some reason the account I normally use for messenger is identified as being from the USA, so I can't use it to buy. So I created another account and set it to Mexico (my country) , so now I can buy apps from the market place...
The problem is now I have to re add all my friends to my new messenger account... x___x
So if I could change accounts, I could switch my account whenever I needed to buy something and then change it back to be able to send messages.
=)
For now I think I'll just start adding my contacts to the new account.
