does JB have keyboard gesture writing? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys
i just flashed the German JB rom and i found out that i can't use gestures on the keyboard anymore and it's really annoying to use normal method for input cause it's slow should i download swype keyboard for it and ignore samsung keyboard?
any suggestions?
thanks

Jelly Bean 4.1 doesn't. However, 4.2 does. I would strongly suggest you use Swype....I am amazed by how accurate it is. I use it on my arc S and I barely make mistakes over it. It's the best gesture keyboard out there. I use HTC stock trace keyboard on my sensation XE, and make mistakes very often. Just go with Swype.
P.s. I Swype'd this without a mistake too.

You can, just hold down the settings icon on the keyboard, tick continuous input. Its the same as Swype.You just need to have Predictive text turned on... Thats in the Official JB release...

Did you do a fresh install or did you install over your old system.? Did you re-install a Titanium backup or any other type of backup?
Doing this may result in undesired things happening as you are going from 1 OS to another. I cleared cache and dalvik when I installed original through Mobile ODIN. I can tick continuous input. I have no idea why yours is greyed out other than the reasons above...

Is performance of keyboard any better under jelly bean than it is on ics? I find the predicted words appalling on ics.
In this post it would not predict:
Better
Find
Word
Post
Predict
I also tried the word sentence, and it didn't like that either.
I do find that after tapping the word out, it will then predict out next time I swipe it, which makes me feel it is a dictionary error of some kind.
In that last sentence it refused the words feel and kind.
Does anyone else have this problem? (Noting that words anyone and else failed while swiping that last sentence !)
I have the Galaxy Note 2 and previously had the Galaxy Note, neither of which have this problem. Swype works fine too.

Landscape keyboard?

Hi everyone!
I stopped using the dodgy default keyboard and switched to the HTC keyboard. Wow, it's a whole new phone now! One question though, I use IM a lot (ebuddy, msntalk and msndroid) and everytime I go to the landscape keyboard, it fills up the whole screen so I cannot see what someone has just said while I'm typing. Is there anyway to stop the landscape keyboard from filling up the whole screen (similar to the iPhone)?
Thanks!

Use Better keyboard with custom skins keyboard sizes its accurate and fast and doesn't use the whole screen cost as little a couple of dollars with load of additional skins to install too for free.
Doesn't quite work. When I go into landscape mode on ebuddy the keyboard and textbox still cover the whole screen. Is there a setting to remove the textbox so I can see what is going on in the app?
I need something like this:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Request: Droid X style text edit

Hi all, I just came from iPhone and am really missing the magnifiying glass that pops up when i want to move my text edit cursor between letters. I noticed the Droid X has this feature as well (in fact seems to work better than the iphone's).
My big thumbs can not tap accurately enough between letters, and I do not like the stock Sense kb (I'm using the Gingerbread kb).
Could anyone hook me up with this magnifying glass/cursor movement? I would be very appreciative.
I have fat fingers, too.
You know the GB keyboard you're using already has a helpful feature for this, right? It doesn't magnify anything, but those big text selector tabs just might be the best part of the GB update, lol.

hmmm i am not sure what you are talking about... The only way I know of to move is by tapping, but it is far too inaccurate.
The Gingebread keyboard has big tabs for text selection and moving the cursor. Here's an example:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

Oh, Whoa!
Which Gingerbread kb are you using?? That looks sweet and I am pretty sure the one I've got does not have that function. Or if it does, I'm a fool and haven't figured out how to use it....
(I'm stock ROM with an "ruKeyboard 2.0 r19" apk)

the ones i have tried dont have it either. I did go to bestbuy and tried the nexus 2 and it had it and works great.
it isn't a feature of the gingerbread keyboard ports to 2.2, it is only available in the actual 2.3 system.
Sense at least has it in their browser.
I had the very same situation, came from iphone and was frustrated by this. Swype actually has a great text selection setup, just swype from the swype button to the sym button.

Thanks for the clarification.
Even more frustrating is that my buddy's Droid X has a similar function.
Nonetheless, one week into my EVO and loving it.

SwiftKey 2 Beta access now open (another amazing KB)

Good today only! (5/20/11) The world ends tomorrow anyways
The SwiftKey keyboard beta has been opened up so you can download the new honeycomb compatible keyboard. This is a serious contender to ThumbKeyboard, and it's specialty is predictive text. It's setup very well on the Transformer. Another must have, or at least must try keyboard.
In order to sign up, just register at their website and use the invite code #swiftkeyFRIDAY.
Register here.
Once registered you get forum access. Go to the tablet downloads section and get the new Beta.

Interesting, will take some getting use too.
I've been waiting for this and it's finally here... beta version
Thanks for the info.
Had access to this for a while now but I find the layout of thumb keyboard to be far better and easier to type with, didn't use swiftkey much.
Thanks man
Bah... now they're giving us a choice! I'd already made my mind up that I was going to buy thumbkeyboard. Now you're making me re-think.
Although SwiftKey is pretty cool looking, and better then the regular keyboard. I definitely think that ThumbKeyboard is definetly better.
Also has anyone noticed how even with the keyboard dock the SwiftKey prediction three word thing still pops up. I'm not sure if I like to or not yet. But kinda cool. I wonder if they did that on. purpose or not.

Edit: Also for some reason the prediction with the keyboard work really good in the XDA app. Actually fixes any mistakes I make typing. But in every other app i've tried messes up, either by double entering words, or by just adding random letters. Especially if I start typing real fast. Guess that is a problem.
I agree with the above...I make way more mistakes on the swiftkey app and I hate the tron look. I want a matte keyboard layout so back to thumb keyboard I go!
I know it's a beta...it will get better, but for now I'll stick to what works and what I can customize further.
i have the same auto-correct issue of it adding random characters, actually the letter "I" specifically.

[Q]Swype (beta) is installed but suddenly stopped being the default keyboard

Hi Everyone,
I have installed the Swype (beta) keyboard, and I am very happy with it. For some reason on my last phone reboot the standard keyboard was restored! I would like to keep using Swype (beta), but I just can't seem to "convince" my phone to do so. I have gone into Settings - Language & keyboard and my settings are as shown below -
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As can be seen above Swype appears to be the default keyboard, however whenever I go to write anything the standard keyboard is shown!
If anybody can provide instructions on setting it as the default again it will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo
You can try removing the stock keyboard, especially since you're not using it anyway. I would use Titanium to convert the stock kb to a user app, then freeze it or rename it so it's not visible to the system. Make sure Swype beta is set as default, reboot, & see if that works.
I believe you can tap and hold on an area where text can be typed in and a menu should pop up, along with "input method" where you can select swype beta

Also, make sure that swype is in your internal memory, not your sd card.
Never forget if all else fails... Application Manager -> Downloaded -> Swype -> Clear Data. Then go back in and reset all settings you had originally. Should take care of the issue.
Swype keyboard fixed - thanks everyone
Hi Everyone,
I tried "long pressing" in a text entry area but the customary "select input type" box wasn't presented. I cleared the cache / data from the Swype App, and rebooted the phone, however this still didn't help. I finally uninstalled the Swype App, but left the parent "Swype Installer" App on the phone, rebooted - and then reinstalled Swype. The Swype installation provided me with several keyboard settings options that I couldn't seem to get through the standard Settings. Everything is good again
Thanks everyone for your valuable input.
Kind Regards,
Davo
There is a "simple" fix: just to make Swype the only one keyboard in the system. So you need to make root and uninstall Samsung and any other keyboards with Titanium backup)) :good:
You can also just freeze it (them), instead of uninstalling.
Just freeze the stock "samsung keypad" using Link2Sd or any other app as u desired .

L keyboard on 4.x.x?

Simple question, I've tried to install the apk normally and also place it in the /system/app folder with executable rights...no go.

haha, well whatever. Sucks that the new keyboard doesn't play well with 4.x.x. at least it doesn't seem to.

Since I don't use gesture typing of any sort, the new keyboard simply brings a better UI (to me anyway) compared to the other stock keyboards. The ONLY gripe I would have is that there is no separation between keys, meaning it looks like one flat pad with letters and no lines. Looks/works beautifully though.

It's the exact same keyboard, it just adds an extra "theme" in Google Keyboard settings > Advanced > Color Scheme, named "Material". Choose that one.
