[Q]Swype (beta) is installed but suddenly stopped being the default keyboard - General Questions and Answers

Hi Everyone,
I have installed the Swype (beta) keyboard, and I am very happy with it. For some reason on my last phone reboot the standard keyboard was restored! I would like to keep using Swype (beta), but I just can't seem to "convince" my phone to do so. I have gone into Settings - Language & keyboard and my settings are as shown below -

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As can be seen above Swype appears to be the default keyboard, however whenever I go to write anything the standard keyboard is shown!
If anybody can provide instructions on setting it as the default again it will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

You can try removing the stock keyboard, especially since you're not using it anyway. I would use Titanium to convert the stock kb to a user app, then freeze it or rename it so it's not visible to the system. Make sure Swype beta is set as default, reboot, & see if that works.

I believe you can tap and hold on an area where text can be typed in and a menu should pop up, along with "input method" where you can select swype beta

Also, make sure that swype is in your internal memory, not your sd card.

Never forget if all else fails... Application Manager -> Downloaded -> Swype -> Clear Data. Then go back in and reset all settings you had originally. Should take care of the issue.

Swype keyboard fixed - thanks everyone
Hi Everyone,
I tried "long pressing" in a text entry area but the customary "select input type" box wasn't presented. I cleared the cache / data from the Swype App, and rebooted the phone, however this still didn't help. I finally uninstalled the Swype App, but left the parent "Swype Installer" App on the phone, rebooted - and then reinstalled Swype. The Swype installation provided me with several keyboard settings options that I couldn't seem to get through the standard Settings. Everything is good again
Thanks everyone for your valuable input.
Kind Regards,
Davo

There is a "simple" fix: just to make Swype the only one keyboard in the system. So you need to make root and uninstall Samsung and any other keyboards with Titanium backup)) :good:

You can also just freeze it (them), instead of uninstalling.

Just freeze the stock "samsung keypad" using Link2Sd or any other app as u desired .

Carhome app

Does anyone have the carhome app. I found one but when i installed it doesnt show up in my app list

Its not supposed to show up on your apps list. This is how I do it in launcherpro.
Create a shortcut to 'activities'. Then select carhome.carhome.carhome
Its there but only on the activities list and you have to make a shortcut

The market is showing that Googles Car Home is not compatible with the Infuse. Maybe that's why it's not showing up.
i got the app from here by googling "carhome apk" and selecting the droid life link (i can't post links yet). then you need launcher pro to use the app. follow slider's post above to use.
Slider,
I was using "Launcher" and now that I downloaded Launcher Pro it has changed all of my icons when I hit the home button. Is there anyway to copy the settings from "launcher" to "launcher pro"?
Thanks again

Dolphin Browser: Rearranging Icons on New Tab Screen + Delete Hot Apps Tab

Hello All!
I've been a long time Chrome user and now I'm trying out Dolphin HD. When configuring my home screen, I noticed 2 things:
1. There seems to be no easy way to rearrange the tabs that you've added on this screen. Is there some sort of add-on that allows you to do this?
2. There is a tab that says "Hot Android Apps". When I long press it, it doesn't give me the option to delete it. Does anybody know of a way where I can get rid of this? I already deleted it from Bookmarks but it didn't transition over to the home screen.
If you're wondering what screen I have been talking about this entire time, here is a picture of my home screen:

If anyone has any bright ideas, please let me know. I looked into the add-ons but haven't found anything yet that will allow me to fix this!
Also, is there anyway that you can make it that when you hit the Dolphin icon that it pulls up just the page you were on before? Every time I do it it opens up a new tab. I've changed the setting in Lab --> On Startup --> Open Previous Page and still no luck.

Unfortunately the only way I have found to return to the page I was on before is to hit my home button rather than "exit" or back out of Dolphin. The main reason I use Dolphin is for the gestures, it makes it so easy to go to a bookmarked page.

[Theme] Default android keyboard theme

Google actually has a
few other themes built-in. You just need
to uncover them with this trick.
You'll need a custom launcher that can
access Android Activities for this to
work, like Apex or Nova—which we
highly recommend downloading
anyway , since they're awesome. Once
you've got one installed, just follow these
steps:
1# Long-press on the home screen and
head to Shortcuts > Activities from
the menu that pops up.
2# Choose "Google Keyboard" (or
"Android Keyboard (AOSP)"
depending on your device and
Android version), and head to
"Android Keyboard Debug
Settings." This will create a
shortcut on your home screen.
3# Tap that new shortcut and you'll
get some advanced settings for
your stock keyboard. Choose
"Keyboard Theme" to pick a new
theme for your keybaord.
You can choose from Basic (which is the
pre-Gingerbread theme), Stone,
Gingerbread, and IceCreamSandwich
(the default on ICS and higher), with a
few variations. Pick which one you like,
and enjoy!

Thank u!! A nice alternative to other keyboards without the need to install any apk...

Samsung keyboard app alternative

I like using the stock Samsung keyboard app on the Note 5 because of the SPen detection that switches it to handwriting. However, I hate the fact it does not have swype/flow capability. My S6 had a Samsung keyboard with swype/flow built in as an option (with no handwriting option obviously).
Does anyone know of a suitable alternative? Is there a different keyboard from a previous Note device that works better I could install? I'm waiting for the Note 7 keyboard to leak but have not seen it yet. Not sure if it would have these options. I also tried Google's handwriting keyboard but found that switching between typing and handwriting is a chore.

It does.
With the on-screen keyboard visible, hold down on the button to the right of the "Sym" key. Tap the gear icon to go to the keyboard settings. (Or go to Settings > Language and input > Samsung keyboard)
Scroll down until you see "Keyboard swipe" and change that to "Continuous input".
That setting does not exist for me in settings. If you have a Note 5 give me a screen shot. As you can see below that option is missing.

Odd. Here is the upper part of that menu and that setting is non-existent. Not sure what to make of this. Are you running Android 6.0.1? What version of Samsung keyboard are you running?
I am on 6.0.1, but that should not matter, as this feature has been available since the phone's release.
Samsung keyboard 1.1.16. If you haven't tried clearing data for the Samsung keyboard app, try that.
Have you disabled any apps?

Only things disabled are SVoice app, Google photos, and Verizon Cloud app.
I am also running 1.1.16 verion of the keyboard. Tried clearing data and settings also.

Changing Default Apps

I'm trying to change the default calling app on either my Tablet (Vankyo Z1) or Phone (Note 20 Ultra) to use Talkatone. I Understand Android doesnt seem to allow this switch in general, but can it be done with rooting or custom rom? Ive noticed that this seems to be universal, but no real reason why it is set this way and unadjustable. Any help is appreciated.
AFAIK Vanco Z1 is running Android 8.1 and Note 20 Utra is running Android 13.
Nevertheless, on both devices , without further ado , to change your default calling app / dialer, you
Open Settings.
Select Apps or search for Default apps in the Search bar.
Open Default apps. On some skins, you can find Default apps settings under the 3-dots menu.
Open Phone or Dialer.
Select the app you prefer as your default by toggling it.

Thanks so much for the reply! But on both of my devices, no other calling apps are available in the final part of your instructions. I noticed the "set default apps" on the app menu, however when it comes to the phone, there are no other options. I assume this is a block by the system, do you know how I may overcome this?
