Hi everyone!
I stopped using the dodgy default keyboard and switched to the HTC keyboard. Wow, it's a whole new phone now! One question though, I use IM a lot (ebuddy, msntalk and msndroid) and everytime I go to the landscape keyboard, it fills up the whole screen so I cannot see what someone has just said while I'm typing. Is there anyway to stop the landscape keyboard from filling up the whole screen (similar to the iPhone)?
Thanks!

Use Better keyboard with custom skins keyboard sizes its accurate and fast and doesn't use the whole screen cost as little a couple of dollars with load of additional skins to install too for free.
Doesn't quite work. When I go into landscape mode on ebuddy the keyboard and textbox still cover the whole screen. Is there a setting to remove the textbox so I can see what is going on in the app?
I need something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As opposed to this:
Thanks

If you use htc_ime by jonasl then you can go into Setting -> User interface -> No landscape fullscreen
Just check that box and you will get what you want
I use v27 of jonasl htc_ime_hires

I'm trying to find a large screen keyboard that I can use with my fingers instead of the stylus. Can anyone recommend a good one to use.. any freeware or otherwise.
Thanks
I like thumbkeys (or bigkeys) or something like that. It changed name.
Not free, but for me, nicely skinnable, i wrote a skinner for it and made a couple of thumb friendly layouts.
Many similar, but I like this for the effort.

Spb Full Screen Keyboard - it's just been updated to version 3 with portrait (real qwerty, not offset like above) and landscape modes, WM2K3/5 support and a number of other features like spelling correction/learning.
Thanks for that, but I couldn't find thumbkeys or bigkeys on google.
I did come across Tengo Thumb.. I'm downloading it now, hopefully it's good.
If you have a link to your app that would be great.

Just what I'm after... Thank you!!
Sorry, touch keyboard:
http://www.orthancsoftware.com/TKeyboard.htm
mtbsoft: my keyboard layout is not by accident, it's by design.
Print it out and try typing with it using one thumb.
I find it better (on a smaller screen like the Magician) then the standard QWERTY. I also use a fullscreen landscape keyboard using regular qwerty, for two thumbs.
I also did a modified fitaly and some others for symbols, calculator layout for numbers etc. But I use this one daily.
(SPB's fullscreen portrait)
I'm sure most keyboard apps are fully skinnable now though.

Not sure if I am dreaming this up. But I think my onscreen keyboard changed. It looks smaller to me and when in horizontal mode, the keyboard doesn't stretch across the screen. Can someone confirm what their onscreen keyboard looks like? Maybe post a screenshot. Mine is light blue and all of the keys are really small.
Thanks,
Z

Just click the up arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom and change your input type to full qwerty and you'll get the nice TP2 keyboard back
Thanks ajpatel. That was exactly what I was looking for. I am glad I wasn't dreaming about the keyboard being different
I am trying to figure out how to make it so that the on screen keyboard doesn't show up every time there is a place to enter text when in the vertical mode.

I'm not trying to be rude but why would you not want the keyboard to show up in portrait view? How else are you going to enter text if the physical keyboard isn't slided out?

Because not all the time there is a field do you need to enter data
For example when viewing a web page there may be fields to log in or comment, but all you care about is reading the content.

I don't take it that way, but Telek listed the reasons why. I just would rather bring it up when I want it, rather than it coming up no matter what...
On the home screen and app drawer, at least. Well, my dad has a stock hero and he left it on top of his car and drove off. It slid off the back, broke out of its otterbox and exploded in a bunch of pieces. He found them all and nothing broke.
BUT! Now sense rotates into landscape on the home and app screens when the phone is turned sideways. How does a big fall remove what was thought to be a software limitation?
Picture or it didn't happen...
Gladly.

Sorry for the quality. Lighting isn't so good in my room.
That's interesting...
Landscape layouts ARE available in some versions of Rosie (since the 2.1 update, which I see you have), theory is that this was in expectancy of a landscape Rosie which eventually came in the form of the Desire Z. When this build was ported to the Dream, which had an HW keyboard, opening the keyboard would also give you that landscape view.
What's interesting is that the breakage somehow triggered landscape to be enabled. There's two ways for an application to change orientation; nicely by allowing sensor rotation in Android_Manifest.xml, and forcibly by having an HW keyboard (or whatever it's trigger is) which will send the Landscape view request to the OS without needing the sensor orientation.
Most apps use "sensor" or "nosensor" for orientation purposes, few use "portrait" and "landscape" to force the app to stay in a certain orientation. Rosie is programmed for "nosensor" since the devices that used it up to that point were supposed to lack the kb-open trigger.
I wonder which piece inside the hero it is that "moved" and is reporting an open keyboard when orientation is changed... weird indeed...
Yeah who knows, I guess it just got tricked into thinking its always in text input mode and rotates freely. I didn't know any phone running sense could do that, so its good to know it at least isn't a one time deal.
BTW, I wasn't doubting you...I just really wanted to see pictures
That is hilarious...does it "scroll" then, as I see some icons are cut off?
That's pretty cool. Does it take forever to rotate like it did on the g1?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Right, the icon placement isn't quite right but it does scroll side to side, and the app drawer scrolls. And no, it rotates very quickly actually.
Watch bicentenial man then find your phone some drift wood and wait for it to make you a fortune
I didn't even think about it until I saw a picture of the One X in landscape orientation on HTC's Facebook page, I think it would be really cool if there was a mod to get our phones to go into landscape when not docked or connected to an MHL cable. I don't know about you guys but I hold my phone horizontally pretty much all the time except when making calls and would love to see my homescreen in landscape mode. So, count homescreen landscape capability as a top item on my mods wishlist. I would think it would be a pretty easy mod to do so I think we should all show our interest by posting in this thread and maybe one of our awesome and very appreciated devs will take notice.

Yeah, but I am really digging Sense 4.0 (I know, I'm shocked too). Would love to be able to do it with Sense.
Look for an app called "Rotation Locker"
When you run it, long press "Auto" in the menu that comes up and it will force all apps to rotate (even if they're not meant to), including Sense. I used it for a bit until I moved to Nova Launcher and can attest to it working pretty much flawlessly.

Thanks for the tip! Works great I would like to see a "native" solution but this will do just fine in the interim.
I noticed that the MHL HDMI adapter immediately forces landscape, and it does look pretty awesome.
Yeah, landscape is awesome. The app that stnguyen09 recommended, rotation locker, works awesome so check it out if you haven't. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...locker&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

It's not a real tactile keyboard but at least it's a new landscape keyboard-ish phone with new hardware. I'm disappointed it is a screen but if it's customizable then that would make a bit more sense instead of it just being a silly gimmick. I don't need a camera button on my keyboard, I'm not sure what's beside the 1 key or the left/right arrows, I don't need a symbol button where backspace should be and it looks like a whole row worth of space is wasted where there is just the speaker symbol.
It might be better than the landscape mode blackberry options though but there's no way I'll be able to type on it without looking as well as having a tactile and real physical keyboard. At first I thought it was a real keyboard and got so excited. I have come down off that high now.

Damn...it was a hoax. Just some sort of concept art someone was using to get their name out there for graphic design.

Not sure if this was posted previously, please share. Coming from the same folks that developed a keyboard mod for the Moto z phones
Sincerely hope the device is successful
I have a love for QWERTYs (look at my past phones). Spread the word please!

instead of adding that in a 2nd post, you should edit your OP to remove the unsourced clickbait fake pic and rumors... then replace it all with the actual *factual* new landscape slider, which *is real*, has *legit sources*, and details could be found since mid to late 2018, now directly at https://www.fxtec.com/pro1 or just delete this "fake news" thread entirely.
