Battery life - Microsoft Surface

Hi.. guys, hows the battery life? Ive seen some users' reviews and they wrote something about 3-5 hours max.. is it true? i sincerely hope it is not

No it's not, it's longer then that. I am getting between 8 to 9 hours on use depending what I am doing. Mostly streaming movies and tv shows online with notification always on

I dont have exact numbers, but so far I get about 3 days of my usage out of the device. Probably somewhere in the region of 8 hours I would guess.

8 - 10 hours average depending on what i'm doing. Very impressed so far.

Im looking at about 9 hours including hd streaming with Netflix. The battery rocks.

The battery life is definitely comparable to the iPad. It's around 9-10 hours. Quite good.

had my surface 7 days now and only charged twice

Absurd Battery Drain during use, Any Device, never was a problem till 5.0+

What's up xda guys and gals? I'm at a point where I've just reached the end of my wits and I'm about to just give up entirely over this. I've spent countless hours reading, for weeks, months, and now a few years off and on trying to find a solution to this... but even with the help of some pals here on the forums, I'm at a total loss.
Ever since we went to 5.0 Lollipop, my battery drain during use (As in, general use like web browsing, messaging, reading, emailing, etc) has just become out of control. Like, I'm talking extreme and it doesn't matter what device I use O.O , Yeah... Basically, whether I am reading, emailing, browsing, I on average lose about 1% every 1-2 minutes. Phones always running hot, I've tried underclocking, minimum brightness, under volting. Nothing fixes it...
I've had this issue on:
The OnePlus One (Only after 5.0, never on KK)
The Moto X 2nd gen
The Moto X Pure
The Nexus 6p
The HTC M9
The HTC 10
The Xperia Z2 and Z3
Now...for a quick recap of what I do on my devices... I never use auto sync, everything is set to manual, location is off, location scanning is off, wifi scanning is off, bluetooth is only on while I am in the car (bluetooth use is really on 2015+), almost always manual brightness, never turned above 50%, if auto is used I still limited it to 50% as a max. No games are ever played (mobile games aren't real games), No 3D stuff, or other heavy gpu related nonsense.
With these things in mind... Here is my battery history. Only with major milestones to indicate progression.
From the first to the last (oldest to newest device)
Galaxy S2 - Average runtime of 15-17 hours with 1.5-2.5 hours of SOT. (Although 2.5 wasn't till I learned to root and used roms, so very late)
Galaxy S3 - Average runtime of 16-18 hours, 2-3 hours of SOT.
Galaxy S4 - Average Runtime of 18-21 hours, 3-4 hours of SOT
Moto X 1st Gen - Average Runtime of 19-24 hours, 5-6 hours SOT.
HTC M8 - Average Runtime of 18-30 hours, 5-5.5 hours of SOT
OnePlus One - Average Runtime of 20-35 hours, 6-8 hours of SOT. (Average was about 7, but was lower for a while when I was streaming 20GB of youtube/music a month over LTE.
What do I get currently on my newer OnePlus one? Between Cos12.1-CM13 (Tried different ones over time), a average runtime of 10-15 hours with 2-3.5 hours of SOT, 4 if I am lucky. HOWEVER...if I do not use the phone, at all, like ZERO usage it will show 1-2 days of standby, if I use it for more than 5 minutes, it will say like 4 hours.
WTF happened?
Now... the the other phones I listed above that I had the same issue with, were all mostly similar. The OPO is the only device out of that group that can go over 3 hours of SOT for me. When I had a Moto X Pure, I actually completely drained it in 3 hours and 22 minutes. As in, Not like 12 hours and then 3 hours 22 minutes of SOT, I mean 3 hours and 22 minutes of COMPLETE RUN TIME. That was just a collective of messaging, reading, browsing the web and some videos over wifi, never higher than 720p. Nothing out of my norm at all...
I went through 5 different Moto X Pure's, I just thought... "I have to have a crap one, it cannot be this bad". But I gave up after the 5th.
The only device I've used that gave me ROCK solid battery life on something running 5.0+ was the Nexus 6, It felt like a normal phone to me, but that dang ascending ringtone just killed it for me. Although now days I need waaaaaay more than 64GB, but i digress.
My question is... am I going nuts? Or did android just become extremely power inefficient after 5.0+? What happened? I just honestly cannot imagine that phones are this garbage with battery now days, I am a power user in terms of reading, messaging, and such, but I don't game or steam 1440p videos over LTE all day like some folks do. How on earth do people even use phones like that today? With all my efforts to be as battery economical as possible, it's horrible by 4.4 and under standards, what is it like for people who don't try to conserve at all? 1 hour phones? I'm seriously just at a loss...
Now, I know most of you will say "post battery stats", and I can do so if someone wishes...but it's never helped me find anything. There are no applications consuming like 80% of the power, it all just... looks normal, just Android System always around 12%-15%. I've tried multiple battery stat applications, I've sent stats to friends on xda, and so far it's just "normal". It basically feels like every phone I touch just magically has its' battery reduced to 1000 mah or something. I just... I'm seriously at a loss.
Can someone shed some light on this? Am I crazy? Or did 5.0+ just zap up the power?
Thanks

Battery Life & SOT

Been getting about 14 to 16 hrs of battery life and about 4 hrs of SOT for the week. Main usage is web surfing, emails, whatsapp, YouTube and music streaming, no gaming.
Two days ago, I enabled the boost+ app and optimize most apps that don't need to run at full resolution. The screen on time seems to have improved a lot. Got 5hr 56mins of SOT with 14hr 46mins battery life.
This is much better than my HTC 10 after the nougat update. SOT approx 4hrs. I have boost+ running too.
Will monitor for a few more days to see if it is a one off performance.

Pretty good life!! mine gets about 3.5 hrs SOT, and about 13 hour standby, I also have boost+ on too. Curious as to what your brightness setting is, mine about 50% with adaptive on. I am rather heavier on my battery and network, so it doesnt surprise me that you're getting better life. (mine was better when I was on holiday with a better network connection).
About 45% level with adaptive on too. I think setting boost+ to run almost every app at HD resolution, excluding photo apps, helps a lot.
Good network is key too.
I am very satisfied with battery life when on WiFi 4,5-5 hours SOT), but when on LTE I get around 3 hours of SOT. I just enabled Boost+ to see if it improves battery life at all. I don't want to enable though FullHD for apps.
Do you use location services in high accuracy mode?
Here is mine, Charged up to 96% used until now.
Battery had become a bit crazy lately after updates to tons of apps. Just updated the firmware yesterday. Will monitor again.
Hi guys, hope everyone is doing good.
I wanted to ask that from past 2-3 days I'm facing very quick battery drain on u ultra. I'm hardly getting 2.5 hrs of Sot. Phone is heating too much.
Before this I was seeing around 4 hrs+ SOT that too with 1hr+ of casual gaming. I don't know what is wrong but I'm worried. My device is heating that's all what I'm able to notice. Any suggestions are most welcome. Except this, love the device.
Thank you.
It happened to me after updates of some apps.
The only way I solved it was to shutdown the phone completely. Wait for about a minute before powering up again.
Thinking about getting the U Ultra. Do you feel that the battery life is good enough?

Actually depends on what your daily usage looks like. If I'm on holiday or the whole day at home, one charge easily lasts for 2-3 days. But at university with every sync /bt/WiFi etc enabled and 50% brightness I get about 8h with high amount of screen on time (50-80%)

I usually use the phone for 2-4 hours per day but more hours during travel.
How much does the battery drain during standby? For instance, I you leave the phone in standby during the night, how many percent does the battery decrease?
Mine loses about 4% overnight (8 hours) which I think is exceptionally good!
For me it highly depends on which ROM and which apps I have installed. Recently the battery drain was about 1%/hour (150 apps, all syncing etc on), but right now after cleaning up a bit and nstalling greenify I'm back at ~3-6% per night.
I can get the black U Ultra for €291.99 here: https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/htc-u-ultra-64gb-4g-dual-sim-sim-free-unlocked-black.html
Tested the phone yesterday at a local shop here in Sweden, felt great in the hand and I really like the design. However, the battery life may be a deal breaker. Most of the phones I have used during the last 2 years has droppped 1-3 percent during night and I usually got 6 hours SOT over 24 hours. The last phone I used with weak battery life was Nexus 6, it gave med 3-4 hours SOT during 24h and that was slightly annoying. I get the impression that U Ultra is comparable to Nexus 6 in the battery department. :-/
That's actually a very accurate comparison. I replaced my Nexus 6 with the HTC Ultra and I'm getting almost identical SOT and battery life.

I get about 24 hours of mixed usage, which means I need to charge it up every morning, but I never seem to be able to get more that 4 hours SOT. Also, the rapid charger is slower than the Nexus 6. It takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes for a full charge.
I installed and configured kernel Adiutor/CPU Kernel state #on_demand and turned off #core_4. Now my battery/system working 2 whole days before charging!
Guys if i go to optimize apps and turn it on, Wen I leave it turns off again. Is this normal? I restart the phone and I already did a factory reset because the phone was updated alot the first time I use it, but it's the same. I'm getting about 3-4 hours off sot depending on the use. Maybe less. What do you guys think?
i got 5hrs and a few mins with the first charge (light use, browsing, installing apps, tweakin settings and 35mins spotify)

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Google Pixel 2 XL's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Battery life so far and that's with over 3 hours of gaming, 1 hour of podcast listening, 1 hour listening to Google music, 1 hour of YouTube as well as Facebook, Tapatalk, discord ect. I have to say I'm pretty much blown away.

I'm gonna guess battery saving
Battery saver. I only really need it so the weather app works properly.

But this was using no other battery saving techniques. With things like greenify with aggressive doze, lowering resolution to 1080p ect I'm sure I could extend this even more if I really wanted. Not only that but the game I was playing is a 3d MMORPG with graphics set to med/ high.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
So far I've only had one real heavy usage day.
I was on a mix of LTE and wifi, browsed with Chrome, Facebook, texting, 30 minutes of calls, 30 minutes YouTube, 1 hour streaming Google Play Music to Bluetooth headphones, 15 minutes playing Asphalt 8, brightness at 20%, Now Playing on, Google account syncing, Location on high accuracy and battery saving off. At the end of the day I was literally trying to kill the battery but it was getting late and I was tired.
Under the same conditions my Nexus 5X, even when it was brand new, only got like 3 hours screen on time with the same off the charger time.
First phone I've ever had that I can actually say has great battery life. It more than makes up for the blue tint that I only even see if I'm looking for it.
Been at a conference last few days in a row. Historically I bring a charger with me because usually I'm just sitting there on my phone.
Don't have my actual battery performance but started with 100% out of my car. Purposefully left a charger in the car.
Used tons of XDA, Facebook, browser text email etc and had 40-60% remaining after about 7 hours onsight each day.
Great battery for working professionals or any heavy user
Much better lasting than i expected. 3500mah compared to the 3000 mah of Nexus 6, and it lasts 2 days easily on light to moderate use.
EDIT: i meant nexus 6

Oops, i meant Nexus 6, my bad!
I'm downright impressed with the battery on this phone. I was at the hospital for 3 days with no charger, and it lasted the whole time. Granted, I pretty much don't use any app other than firefox, but at the same time, I never turned on the TV (I honestly don't care for watching TV) and my phone was all I had to entertain myself, so the screen was on a lot.

Yeah even better! Even with a 3220 battery, it barely lasted for almost a day. Granted it was after 3 years of using the phone, so at the time i bought it, it would have lasted maybe 1.5 days. But when i went 3 days without charging the pixel 2xl, that was something else.
Upgraded from a Nexus 6 as well. With he same apps installed, and with everything else as similar as possible (i.e. batter saver disabled, location high-accuracy, same google accounts added, etc.), and with hte N6 rooted and running Pixel Launcher and wallpaper app, *and* with the N6 being a 2nd replacement (having replaced my original purchase due to batterygate in Jan 2015, and then having lost the second device in Jan 2016 and relacing it with the last completely new in a box N6 that I found only) and thus around 1.75 years of actual use (versus a true 3 years), I can say that my N6 will die easily in ~4 hours of intensive video game playing (games like PotC: Tides of War and Lineag 2: Evolution) but the Pixel 2 XL has let me play 7+ hours continuously and still had well over 30%.
Being the holidays, I don't have that much time to dedicate to playing games in one sitting, but I can fire up Lineage 2 and auto hunt for a long time, with the phone sitting off to the side, if anyone requires actual visual proof.
Also, relate to this, even if I am playing either game and connect to my charger, the phone barely gets warm, whereas my N6 would get almost unbearably hot if I charged and played at the same time.
If you aren't fortunate to live on wifi and have bad service, my battery life is dropping. I'm down to 10 hours with 2 hours of SOT. First day was much better. I am using a third party charger. Does that drop battery life?

That's pretty terrible. Never got lower than maybe 4.5 hours SOT and that was out and about at Disney World for 16 hours. Mostly the bad service that's killing your battery because it's searching for stronger signal. Doubtful 3rd party charger would be doing this. Screenshots?

Yeah, something is wrong. A few weeks about I had a long day out using mobile data only with signal average to bad browsing, Facebook, texting, 30 minutes of calls, 45 minutes of Google Maps navigation with the screen always on and playing music over Bluetooth to my car for like 2 hours and even like 15 minutes of Asphalt 8 and I ended the day with like 6 hours SOT and 20 hours off the charger and still had like 10% left. That's the absolute WORST I've ever seen. On wifi all the time with good cell signal just browsing and Facebook I've gotten 9 hours SOT over like 40 hours at best. Average with a mix of usage is about 7 hours SOT with about 32 hours off the charger. Individual results will obviously vary but if you are getting a lot less than what I get, which is pretty typical from all the user experience I've read, something is wrong.
Can anyone tell me what is the screen time you get on a pixel 2 Xl iam getting 4.00 hours with 80% battery used and 20% battery left with full recharge 15:20 hour's ago
With talk time of roughly 1:45 minutes used.
How i'm /my phone is doing.
Read somewhere people are getting 8+hour's of screen time with 10% battery still left.

SOT-Battery Life

i´ve been using the mate 9(l09) for about 9 months and at the start the battery life was the best i had experienced in a smartphone, after a month the battery life was noticeably lower(4hr 30min hr sot) that when i got it. i was on some weird latin firmware(mha-l09c212b181) and rebranded to l09-C432B198 hoping to get more sot but only got about 10 more min.
Any suggestions of firmware?or should i replace battery? whats your experience?
What's your daily usage like?
Maybe you've installed a rogue app that's draining your juice?
Been using my phone for a year now and I still hit 9 or 10 hours of sot.
YMMV, i would trace back on what app you installed before the whole issue occurred, if not worst case scenario is to hard reset everything, make sure to back up all your stuff.
If no change then either your usage habits are greater than when you got the phone or a defect in the battery
One year using this phone and Im still able to get 9 to 10 hrs SoT within 2 day usage. I used fb and fb messenger a lot (4-5 hrs), web browsing + video (2-3 hrs) and of course 2 hrs of playing games. It's still a beast for me right now, no phone can replace it, maybe mate 10 or other Kirin chip phones. For me, Kirin is extremely good in managing battery and multi task, my phone is always smooth and fast as hell lol
My phone is so much better on Oreo battery life.i don't know how you get so long sot other poster are you on wifi with good cell reception all day.
. I get around 5-6 hours
Been away for some time son no time to reply. im going to factory rest on the weekend and only install the basic social media so i can get more SOT than im getting now. If this works ill install apps one by one and see if one is draining the battery. Otherwise i will concider a battery replacement.
anyone know a better way of tracking the apps that drain battery?

HD 10 (2019) battery life.

I just got an HD 10, installed Play Store and used the Windows tool to get rid of most of the Amazon bloat. My question is, how accurate is the battery usage %. I used mine just to read a book for several hours and it still read over 90%. Just now, I streamed a movie for an hour and it was only down 6%. I've had many tablets over the years and none of them have come even close to that. Is that reading accurate or will it plunge rapidly after a while? Would I really still have 40% charge after watching movies for 10 hours?:fingers-crossed:

I bought this tab on a whim. I already own a Samsung S5e and a Samsung Tab A (2019), so I didn't really need another tab. But with battery life like this, I may wind of keeping and selling the Tab A. I agree. I also have a Tab a 8 2019. The battery on that thing sucks. With the Tab a being updated to Android 10, it just made it so slow. But I do see that TWRP now works on the Tab a, so I will be trying that soon.

Mine is the 10". They do have the advantage of having an unlockable bootloader. The custom ROMs available have much better battery life but still nowhere near the 20hr life of the HD 10.
Battery Charging
Just bought a Amazon Fire HD 10 2019 - 32GB last week. First modern tablet in 5 years and I'm slowly working on it. Watched a few YouTube videos which said how great a deal the Fire HD 10 was then pointed me to the great Fire Toolbox and looking around the forums brought me here to battery life. If you've ever paid or DYI a phone battery it's a pain.
From a YouTube video. If you want to extend your battery’s lifespan, keep it charged between 40% and 80%.
And AccuBattery is one of several apps that lets you set a upper and lower charge percent with alarms. Who knows how well this works but I've been using it for my phones. Thoughts?
Yeah. I can get about 22h SoT when using Tachiyomi manga reader. Low brightness.
But you are right. IMHO it takes longer from 100% to 90% than from 60% to 50% but only about 1.2x or such...
Talking about increased battery life... YES it is healthier to use it from 80% down to 30% and then charge it back up to 80%... but think again... if you get 50% More charging cycles out of that. You also charge it 50% more often
P.S I think a big thing about the gread battery Life is how passive the CPU works.
Even though this tablet has 4xA72 and 4xA53 cores it is quite laggy. So 'governor' settings must be quite conservative.

Well, spoil my fun, but of course you are right. I learned my lesson years ago with my first phone with wireless charging. I'd usually just put it on a charging pad/cradle and didn't take long to ruin my battery.
I am comfortably getting 15 hours of sot with a moderate debloating effort. As for the battery longevity, it is true that charging between 20 to 80 percent almost doubles the battery life but I would just charge this thing the normal way without worrying about the battery because replacing a bad battery on this device is only slightly more difficult than those old removable cell phone batteries.
Ive not long got the fire HD 10, i googlefied it straight away, but web surfing, playing 2 games, not very demanding, gives me 4 hours SOT, seems a bit poor really unless the games are quite power hungry, TT2 and idle miner
