Speaker or earpiece or both? If one, does it still do it when you switch to the other?

Earpiece,Bluetooth & Speaker phone... It worked fine then I flashed a JB rom and it went kaput

Hmmm I was gonna say blown speaker but...now I'm not sure. How long has this been going on? Could it be network related (I know kind of a coincidence) if it were me I would try a clean install or new ROM. Maybe downgrade to last OS temporarily to rule out a hardware or network issue. Hope somebody has more info for you.

Nexus S - Random Reboots, GPS and Compass issues?

Hey,
i know this has been discussed in many threads..just want to have some answers.
i bought my Nexus S a few months ago, it's the I9020 not I9023, from UK.
i really love the phone itself, it's just awesome. had a htc hero before.
but i hate those random reboots, happens to me ~1 time per day. the screen wents really dark and a never ending bootloop happens. have to pull out battery to get it back to work, most times i don't even notice this and the phone is dead after a while of bootlooping... no fix yet right? anyway i "can" live with this but hope to get a fix soon...
GPS and Compass were unuseable since i have it. even my hero has a faster and especially safer GPS-Fix, GPS on Nexus S just loose fix every few seconds and compass does not jump around 50-100°. THIS really sucks! I have already searched around on google and XDA and wherever if this is a hardware or software issue and if there is a possible fix for it but i haven't found a real answer yet and this is what i want to know now.
is this hardware or software related?
is there a fix possible?
like i said, love the phone itself but these issues would make me resell it...
hope i'll get some answers and don't be rude, my english issn't the best.
Best regards and happy easter
Flo
edit: im using latest CM7 with latest Netarchy-Kernel with no additions.
The boot loop/reboot problem is definitely a CM7 issue. None of the other ROMS have this problem.

You could still have bumped an older thread, though. Like mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035005.
I think if all the people with GPS problems could get together in one thread (needn't be mine, of course, there's lots), this issue would get more exposure and eventually be fixed.

No idea, but since the Nexus One and the Galaxy S with 2.3.3 have similar issues, I'm still hoping it's software. There is no known fix at this time.

i guess you are right, and im doing my share here. i have at least 2, 3 random reboots everyday, even if its a clean install, everything wiped. there's something buggy in every cm7 based rom
I guess its the radio problem, for the gps,

[ICS] Vibration doesn't work

As the title said, vibration doesn't work for me anymore.
When I flashed the leaked ics, my vibration stopped and the compass or magnetic meter or whatever it's called stopped working. I thought this was a problem with leaked ICS.
I have flashed the nordic rom via odin now and the compass works again but vibration doesn't.
Does anyone else have the same issues? Please help me
I can't do much without vibration
"I like spelling my name backwards"
could be hardware probs cuz my vibration didnt work like 4 months ago and i just didnt fix it ... Try to plug in ur headphone , and push the input bit to the left ( the side with volume buttons ) , try your vibration . If thats the case then its hardware prob .

I've tried all that. Vibration worked on gingerbread.
It could be a hardware problem but getting off leaked ics fixed the compass. Software might similarly be in the way of the vibration.

I'm on TheFrankenstain MOD and I had lost the vibration once. I had to reboot and the issue got solved, but the problem is different from yours.
Hey Pudup buddy,
I think this can be discussed on MJ's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837966 thread..??
For downgrading please use this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843093&highlight=downgrade+to+gb
Buddy, I know you are having a problem but searching before making threads is also a rule of XDA.:good:
Dont mind it buddy.
Reporting to MOD.

Nevermind, I found the problem. And yeah I did search but nothing turned up :3
Anyway the vibrator motor and the earphone jack are one piece and are connected by a small flex cable. Well the flex cable has been cut right down the middle
It's really small. I'd say its been caused by me probably dropping or jerking the phone while headphones were in and that caused the vibrator motor to break away from the headphone jack.
Seems to be a problem for people using Galaxy S2 as well. That's samsung products for you.
EDIT: And while I was trying to fix the thing before by doing what someone suggested which was using a headphone pin and moving it back and forth, I managed to tear the connecting to the earpiece too. So now I don't have a vibrator and I can't hear calls without earphones :/
Gotta get this **** replaced.

Woah ! :3
Why did you try you fix it on your own buddy ?
The electronics inside are very delicate, you should touch the internals only if you know what you're doing.
I hope you can get it repaired under warranty & this little tear doesn't void your warranty. :good:

As bhavik said, flash 2.3.5 Indian stock & give it to the SSC.
If you by any chance give them your handset with ICS flashed on it then at first they would be amazed & may / may not allow you claim warranty.

hey,
think everyone got this since the update. We had some posts on this in the german android help forums.
I mailed motorola, they said I should try a factory reset.. which didnt help (so you dont have to try).
I mailed them again and they said they forward that error to the technicians. So when I here something about this I post it here !
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

My MZ608-32 have the same problem after I upgrade to ICS, only sound on one speaker, I try to factory reset two times and nothing, in some aplications the lower speaker function with very low volume at example some YouTube videos. With readphones both sides work fine.
In my MZ607 from Brazil I have same bug. But I like so much this bug, with it I send my MZ607 for warranty and probably I get my money back. And get unlock bootloader tablet.
Not Good
I have a Xoom 2 ME and since updating to ICS, I too, have the same sound problem. Do you all think it is worth us clubbing together and sending a mass e-mail to Motorola and see if we can get some form of OTA update to fix the problem? We are only getting half the speakers working and we paid for them ALL to work!
Has anyone got a place we can send such error reports to?
Many Thanks in Advance

Let's see what will be the excuse this time...
Hi guys.
I found a workaround for this bug. For now im using some Tasker profiles to change the speakers configuration when the screen orientation is changed, but i plan to write an app to do this automatically. Root is needed to workaround this bug, and permanent rom changes aren't necessary so it doesn't break OTA updates.
In not sure why motorola disabled this feature on the ics update, it works ok here, a "pop" can be heard when the screen is rotated, maybe thats their reason...
Hi, it would be great to make the speakers work again.
Regards.
Hi guys, sorry for the delay on this. The apk is done and uploaded to google play. Been using it for a few weeks now, works good.

Please, thank this post if it has fixed your xoom. :good:
Works great
At least the Xoom 2 ICS works well.
My original Xoom running Motorola's ICS lags a lot... Also, it crashes and reboots at least once everyday...
Thank you bro

I have downloaded your app but unfortunately it didnt return my audio, my audio works only via headphone jack, am I doing something wrong as it did state must be routed? how do i route my Xoom
thanks in advance Andy

Any reason the headset might stop working?

I recently switched from CM10 to JellyBam version 5.2. It is running Android 4.2.1. Ever since I installed it (and I've tried re-flashing it twice) the audio is only coming out of the main speaker and not the headphone jack. Does anyone know why this would happen?
Update:
It seems to not be recognizing the headphones at all. When I set it to make the phone silent when I plug in headphones nothing happened.

If you check that thread you'll see that there are problems routing sound to the headphones in this release.....ther's also a suggested fix as well.

I see that a permanent fix is on it's way through some code change. Others report that app works for them, hope you have the same experience.
It foes work... However the auto detect wasn't working for me... When I use headphones I had to set it that way
.. Using the speaker I had to set it to speaker... Its not jumping through hoops as its just checking an option. But it does indeed get the job done

VIbrator

I recently got a new (refurb) GSIII from best buy because my old one turned into a paperweight (randomly from what I told them...I certainly didn't do anything to it! What's a rom? ). Since I got it the vibrate hasn't been working. I don't really care enough about it to swap it for a new one but I recently installed Slim 4.3 b2 on it and noticed that under Advanced options > Device > Haptic the vibration strength is greyed out.
GPS seems to be borked on every rom I try as well...could be something with the PCB or other internals. I may end up swapping it back out.
Does anyone have any experience playing with the vibration unit in these? I'm comfortable cracking it open if it might be something easy but off the top of my head I'm not sure what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I think it's greyed out by default cuz my vibrate is fine however that same Haptic setting is greyed out for me on beta 2.

This happen only on 4.3 roms or TW too? Tried tightening the screws on the back of the device? How about resetting the AGPS using an app like GPS Test or GPS Status?

No personal experience but maybe looking at an ifixit teardown will reveal the location of the vibration motor.

Stock rom worked like a champ and I had been running BMS since I switched to 4.3. Reflashed slim with the stock kernel and the GPS worked like a champ.
Vibrate is still a no go but I'll live with it

That's the best I can think of. I don't know why else it wasn't working and now it is. It would also explain why I had the issue on slim and CM before that. That being said, it may just be the combo of my phone and that kernel because as far as I know GPS isn't borked for everyone using BMS.

Fair enough. I noticed GPS issues as well, actually posted it on BMS thread. Oddly enough, reflashing the gapps resolved my GPS issues which kinda surprised me. Maybe try that if you do decide to run BMS again. All's well that ends well, glad you have almost everything resolved!
