[Q] Where is "only charge" option? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I connect the cable for my N8005.1, it immidiately goes for storage as external device. At this moment, there's a "X" sign on the battery icon; the device is not charged via the cable. When you click the icon on the bottom right for more storage options, there's only two options; one "as MTP device" and second as "camera" (BTW, the detailed storage options doesn't exist on settings menu)
What's to be done to maintain only cable charge and not do any storage? What do I miss?
Thanks

Note 10.1 needs a 2Amp usb charger to charge battery .. the usual PC-USB port does just 0,5Amp => your Note will not charge at a PC ... or any charger with less than 2Amp

Hmm, so the battery will drain when you connect the device as 'ext drive' and BT audio at the same time. This means we'll have to carry chargers around :-|
Thanks.

Should be true, but doesn't.
Note will show de red X in Battery, but will charge. Very very very Slow, but will charge.
I did the test.
I connected note10.1 on usb 2.0 at 9:24 with 83% of battery. At 10:26 has now 88% of battery.
So, Will charge very slow. 5% per hour in my case.

As soon the red X is showing charging cant be guaranteed .. if you are using lot of apps od Wifi/3G the battery will drain .. if the note is more or less in standby mode .. it may charge!!
The operation with the red X is not recommended as this is not a stable mode for the battery (swapping between charging and draining!!) and may reduce the lifetime of your battery!
yes .. you may have to carry the charger all time with u

This is one of the annoying things with this tablet, is you always have to charge it using the wall charger. I always thought the X mean that it wasn't charging, will try to connect it my laptop and see what happens.

AC discharges instead of charging

Hello to all XDA-Developers and mortals
After years of using this forum and always being helped by just using the search function, this time I need to make this Post to hopefully get some help.
I have right now a touch Pro, with the original rom from HTC support site on my tPro. (Before it was several different Energy roms)
since a week my only chance to get my tPro charged is, using a USB connection cable since the original charger won't charge furthermore it discharges my device in less than e few minutes. I can actualy watch it sucking it out.
hase anybody an Idea what might fix this problem.
I want to (miss)use this post to thank all the chefs and developers that have worked on improving our everyday experience with our devices.
thank you all.
just go to start-->settings-->system-->battery and should say something about not charging on pc and you should be set from there

there is the option that says [do not charge over USB if conected to PC]
if I uncheck this one it won't even charge over USB, but my problem is that the battery is not charged with the original charger.

have u shut off the phone properly and take out the battery for like 30 seconds and putting it back in and connecting the charger? if that doesnt work, look for a spare USB cable sometimes USB cables give in at times, or look for a usb ac charger

Galaxy Tab 7.7 no longer charges to 100%

I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7 6810 on 4.0.4 stock rom (but rooted) and for entire last year nearly could charge it via USB cable off my PC and always charged up to 100%. Then suddenly a month of so ago, I noticed USB cable no longer charges the Tab 7.7 and would eventually drain down to low battery warning.
So i started using provided AC charger and it would charge to 100%. But past week or so it would only charge for around 10-15 minutes regardless of hitting 100% full charge ? So if i see 77% full, plug in AC charger it will stop charging around 85% ?
Just noticed using USB cable now results in a red X next to notification battery icon ?
Any ideas ?
edit: sorry forgot to check 'is question checkbox'

Suggest you try another cable and charger if available. Also, searching the thread provides other actions you can take to reset battery if necessary.

Also, if you consistently use the same AC outlet, try a different location. If you are rooted with CWM, clear battery stats.

[Q] Problem with charger

Hello,
I didn't use my tablet since 2 month and last week, i installed team EOS 4.2.2 JB rom.
After, my cable did'nt worked, When i tried to conect it to my computer, there was an error message that the tablet wasn't detect correctly.
And when i put the cable into the charger and the table to charge on the wall, i saw the icon on the right corner of the tablet charging but in the information battery, i sax that "Disconect" and the tablet % didn't grow up.... So i thought the cable was dead and i bouth one new on ebay.
With the new cable, no problem the tablet was detect and the charging with the charger was good. But after 2 days, i had new problems.
when i conect the tablet on my laptop, all is OK, the tablet is detect normally. But whn i try to charging with the charger on the wall, the tablet doesn't charge. I see the icon in the right corner is charging but in the battery informations, i see "disconect" again and the battery doesn't charge.
Yesterday, i saw a topic that i can put the charger on the freezer, i put it alle the night and i tried this morning but nothing the tablet does'nt charge.
On the charger, there is 2 parts, I open the little part with removing a screw and i tried to little move the 2 metal parts but nothing alwas the same problem.
So i think now the problem is not the new cable but the charger.... I know it's a specific voltage and if i try with my HTC ONE X charger, this will not work...
But maybe it's a problem with the tablet connect port?
I changed the rom and i installed the Cyanogen 4.2.2 this morning, and now when i conect the cable, with the computer, it's OK i see my tablet but the icon on the table isn't charging and i see "disconect in the battery information". And with the charger wall, it's the same, i have charge icon and i have disconect in the battery information
Do you think i must buy a new charger?
Sorry for my poor English my French
Try a trickle charge from the USB PC > Tablet
Plug the tablet cable into PC USB port and turn off the screen, then leave to trickle charge overnight
If you have the screen on it will not charge, so best to leave it off for a few hours to test if it is a charger problem

When you use PC USB to charge, it will not show charging on the screen, you have to leave it overnight for best test results
The freezer trick should only be used for about 20 minutes just to cool the charger down and reset the cutout
Try trickle charge overnight, if it works, its the charger
I think this is because tablet use a lot of power when in use and that is why the tablet is discharging when you use it. PC has even less powerful USB charger so the tablet will probably be recharging VERY slowly or even discharging when you use it.
You should leave tablet overnight to recharge and it is better to charge it in one piece than constantly plugging and unplugging it from PC.
Have a nice day,

You should be able to charge and use it at the same time with the actual charger plugged in, but you are correct, with the PC you can not use and charge unless you mod your USB ports for extra power
Ok i will try to conect the tablet (power off) all the night to my computer but i think it will not charge...
And if it's not work, it's not a problem with the cable because i can use the cable to transfer media PC> Tablet, so it's a problem on the tablet connector?
Hello,
My tablet was charging all the night. She was at 22% and now 38.... It's very slow!!! But now, i know that my tablet and my cable are OK and my charger is the problem.
There is a solution to repair my charger or i must buy an other?

Try this, separate charger and its pins, then take it along with the cable and put it in a zip pouch, now freeze for say 2 hrs. Take it out let it return to normal temperature and then try charging. Remember freeze them in a zip pouch (air tight)

[Q] Nexus 5 show charging(USB) when using charger

The battery pages says "USB" instead of "AC" when the charger is connected which makes charging very slowly
The problem exists after upgrading to 4.4.2
Is there any solution?

From my understanding the difference of USB and AC charging is the Amps that runs into your phone. I'm not sure what you mean by 'charger' as for me I also use an external charger like a backup battery. If you are referring to a wall charger then you may want to try another charger as this may mean that that charger isn't providing enough Amps to your phone. If you are using a external battery to charge your phone then I would think it's because of that particular external charger. Some only charge at 1A--mine charges at 2.2A--which may trigger a USB charge.
Haha, look, I'm NOT a pro. Nowhere near even. Just chucking in my 2 cents for the purpose of experimentation.
Android determines that you're on an A/C charger by the USB data pins being shorted together. If they're not, or if they're missing entirely, as is the case with a lot of "charge only" cables, then it will only charge in USB mode.
For A/C mode, you need an android compatible charger, and a data cable (not a charge-only cable).

Same problem someone face in Note3 forum, it was a loose contact, remove cable from plug & put it back & try.
Thank you all very much
I've tried another USB cable and it works again:laugh:

[Q] Charging Too Slow Now

I have had my Verizon Galaxy S4 since February of this year. I've been using the stock Samsung AC charger that came with it. It's always charged the phone pretty fast if I wasn't using the phone. It would charge about 15% in 20 minutes. Now it's only charging about 3 or 4% in 20 or 30 minutes. Now I didn't do anything different to my phone. I've been on this same ROM for over a month and this is just now a problem in the last week. My wife has the exact phone and charger that I have and when I use her charger it charges just as rapidly as mine used to, so I know it's not the usb port on my phone itself. I haven't dropped or damaged my charger at all in any way either.
Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening?
If it charges fast on you wife's charger you've pretty much answered your own question.
Try using her cable with your charger, if it still charges slow then get a new charger.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
I had the same problem too ! Did a full battery reset and everything is going good now !
You have to charge it for 12 hours and drain your battery until your phone don't boot. Charge it and here you are !
Yeah these devices act funky every blue moon. My wifes didn't even recognize ANY oem charger for a week. Only detected others as USB devices causing slow charge rate. Removing dust, component cleaner, fresh install, all did no good. Eventually it just resolved the issue itself. All chargers work normally again.
change the usb cables
I also had the same problem before. I'd been using the original charger and usb cable and noticed that charging takes a lot of time than normal.
I found that it's on the usb cable. I accidentally found it when I used gsam battery monitor. It displays the current being received by your phone when charging. Using the original usb cable, it only gets around 600mah. I tried another usb cable (from a previous Samsung device) and now my phone gets 1,900mah (closed to the charger output of 2,000 mah).
Every since I changed the usb cable, my charging is fast now. Hope this helps.
I would try a new cable and Charger that is rated 2.1 amps or better if will be charged real quick

I noticed that using the Pure Nexus rom my charging time became significantly faster. In fact I can get a full charge from nearly dead in just over an hour. This is using the charger and cable that came with the phone.

MT tenso
How do you make full battery reset?
The charging rate is based on the output rating of the charger, which is determined by the resistance value between the Data+ and Data- USB pins. If you use a cheap cable with high(er) internal cabling resistance, that will throw off the detected charger output capacity rating, and knock you down to a lower charging current and longer charging time.
Also, one time, even with the original charger and original cable, I couldn't charge at anything more than the default USB 500mA. I ended up having to power off the phone, and power it on again, which fixed the charging current and speed problem.
Install this app & check if it is getting charged at max current; anything less than 1200 mA when screen on & 1900 mA when screen off, you need to change your cable or charger

I read somewhere that if you activate airplane mode the battery is charging faster.
