Sgh-t769 ics - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

I have an SGH-T769 with android 2.3.6, Baseband T769UVLF4, KERNEL 2.6.35.11, BUILD NUMBER Ginderbread.UVLB7. I am trying to update via kies to ICS 4.0 and it says my device isnt supported, I have updated my baseband to UVLF4 so I dont know what im doing wrong and I dont know how to update the build number to UVLF4. I just did the suggested fix via Jparnell8839, maybe I did it wrong?

1. Questions, no matter how 'dev-section related' they are... go here.
2. I suggest you Odin to stock ICS by downloading the ICS firmware (Uhl something with a 5) from SamMobile.com (I think its down. I can provide a download link later)
3. How to do it?
4. Get your firmware. Download Odin 1.85. Put phone in download mode. Click on PDA, select stock ICS firmware. Uncheck repartition. Hit start.
5. Wait.
6. You SHOULD be on stock ICS now if you followed correctly.
7. Use this if Kies is not working.. otherwise.. try to use Kies.
8. Hit thanks.?

Fixed, and Sorry!
Thank you, I have fixed it. The baseband was UVLF4 but phone version was UVLB7 so I updated the baseband via clockwork mod with T769UVLF4 Baseband_Update, I then flashed from within clockworkmod recovery this rom: SGH-T769_UVLF4_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM. I then did wipe dalvik, wipe data, etc and rebooted. I started kies and BAM! Kies says firmware version available. I am sorry for posting this in wrong section. Thank you for the help. I now have gone from gingerbread to ICS to gingerbread back to ICS.

Just remember to post in the right section next time.. it ticks off the devs.

honestly, I think it's easier to just grab one of DrHonk's rooted kernels from the dev section and flash that via ODIN, and it also gets you CWM.
Just make sure you don't try to flash a gingerbread (2.3.x) kernel over a froyo (2.2.x) rom and vice versa
Can i do this running 2.2.1? Like updating from Froyo to this firmware, or do I have to update to something else first?
Dr Honk also has froyo kernels posted. Also you could try any of the great roms here as most of them are rooted. Just be sure to read the Noobs guide to flashing very carefully. In the Android developement section RaverX3X has posted the latest stock kernel + root + deodexed + debloat. Your best bet if you want stock.
The only problem I'm having with this root is I can't get Wi-Fi to work.

If you just want root, you can use the latest SuperOneClick. If you want root/CWM/voodoo lagfix you can:
- Install drhonk's kj1 kernel via ODIN
- Install bhundven's KJ6 Heimdall One-Click
I suggest the latter as it's based on the KJ6 kernel & only needs Java to install.

The upshot to the CWM in bhundven's kernel is that it's CWM 5 which doesn't have the problem with mounting /system on GB ROMs. However, you can't restore your previous CWM backups with it, either.
Didnt work for me, just sticks on the fugomod screen.

(OTA)(update.zip)(2.3.6)Dont know if anyone knows this???

So i went back to stock ee4 praying i'd get the OTA but i read on tge VZW forum on their site that they are doing it in batches so we could still be waiting a few days..so i looked more, went to my rootzwiki app and found a topic under the droid charge forum called "GB OTA manual update" it is a update.zip that you must do with the stock recovery from EE4. So just now on my phone i downloaded it, named it update.zip placed it on root of sdcard, went into stock recovery, chose update.zip, waited a good 15-20 minutes and now im on Gingerbread 2.3.6 heaven with stock kernel, ep4d modems and radios. So far its running good i will do a call later to see if this fixed up the loud speaker noise. Here is the link to the download: http://www.multiupload.com/HAG3RFTBY6
Thanks and props go to SPJETROVIC for the manual update and to HOPPERMI for posting up the link provided here from rootzwiki. Hope you enjoy.

So if I want to root my phone now that I have that update so I can use Titanium backup, etc. does anyone have a suggestion how to do that/what to use? Thanks!
How to root the Droid Charge? Follow my instructions...
http://www.toms-world.org/android/#rootInstructions
Thanks trparky. I followed your instructions until I got to step 24 Go to the mounts menu and choose to mount /system. Did not see that selection, only unmount /system so I skipped it. Completed the rest of the instructions, downloaded superuser and titanium backup and it shows rooted.
Good to hear my instructions helped you.
I'm wondering if the SDCard Fix Patch at step 23 already mounted /system for you as part of the installation of it. I'm going to take apart the SDCard Fix Patch and see what the install script does.
---------- Post added at 10:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
Yep... just as I suspected. The SDCard Fix Patch mounted /system so you can disregard mounting /system at step 24.
I'll update the instructions and remove the mounting of /system at step 24. Other than that, there will be no other changes to the rooting procedure.
---------- Post added at 11:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 AM ----------
On second thought, I changed step 24 to read like this...
Go to the mounts menu and choose to mount /system. If it says "Unmount /system" then /system is already mounted and you can disregard this step.
I try to make my instructions as thorough as possible so as to leave no questions about what to do next.
doing it this way will it wipe my fone?
The update zip will not wipe your phone at least it didn't for me.
But I would recommend doing a wipe always better to start from scratch imo

I'm using EP4D with CWR and Voodoo and for some reason my PC won't recognize my SD card although Odin sees it no problem. I figure taking the actual OTA update is a good idea for me for now, especially to see if it fixes my SD problem. I used Voodoo control to disable lagfix and that went without a hitch.
To now get to dead stock EE4 so I can get the OTA pushed, do I need to ODin with the PIT file or can I just Odin an EE4 package alone?
Thanks for any advice.
I would use charge.pit file with the ee4 all in one package.. make sure you check re-partition in odin while using the pit file. Then after that you will be able to accept the ota if it has come to your device

If you dont feel right doing it imnuts way i found this: http://bit.ly/r3jeQB over in the "Droid Charge General" forums. It is the full 100% stock EE4 odin pulled from VZW itself. Has radios, modems and kernel. All u need to do is:
Go into CWR
Disable lagfix
Pull battery and SIMcard
Open up odin on computer( i use odin 3 ver. 1.30)
Connect phone to computer in download mode
Put battery back in
Drop the file above in PDA(after you unzip it)
Press start to begin odin
Once it restarts put SIMcard back in and your on EE4!

I love this site....just applied this update to replace ep4p. Took all of about 40 minutes and I'm up and running without having to sit impatiently for the ota.
Was about to run this zip when i got a message for the new OTA. Installed the OTA. Followed the instructions on this thread and flashed CWM Recovery tar using Oden using the PDA. It passed then rebooted holding down power + home+ positive volume. Releasing power at the Samsung logo while continuing to hold the home+ positive volume. The phone keeps launching into android system recovery instead CWM
Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Any assistance would be helpful.

I would try reflashing CWM. Seems like it didn't take...
Unthinking about it some more, I beliene the stock kernel will overwrite CWM with stock recovery. I'm not 100% on that but fairly sure. However you do need to be able to get into CWM on the first boot after installing it to be able to install a custom kernel, so... try reflashing CWM then a custom kernel most likely (imoseyon's latest would be my recommendation).

[Q] Nexus S Software Upgrade

Hello I hope you guys can help me.
So I decided to get a Nexus S about 2 weeks ago, 1st one I had I upgraded straight to 4.0.3 ICS. Ran well except from poor available RAM and the dreaded back button issue. Finally had the handset replaced with a (seemingly) full working handset.
However I notice my android version is 2.3.1. To be honest I only want official upgrades to avoid any problems with warranty. So I check for software and apparently this is the latest version. I know this isn't true...
Please help me or offer some advice on what to do. I did search for this query but I couldn't find any recent posts regarding this.
Many thanks.
Google pulled the ics 4.0.3 update due some issues. But somewhere this month we will get the 4.0.5 ota, so dont worry

Thank you for your prompt reply,
Even if I'm currently running on 2.3.1 will my phone automatically go straight to 4.0.5?
Thank you
hi there,
you have two options:
1. as per prev post, wait until you get 4.0.5 OTA sometime this month
2. or if you do not want to stay on 2.3.1, you can check this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445570
it has all official updates from 2.3.1 up until ICS 4.0.3
all you need to do, is download the incremental package you want,
boot into recovery (3e) and install zip from sdcard.
the choice is yours.
good luck

Yes, but you can at least update to 2.3.6 using the manual method. Just find which model of the Nexus S you have, and download the update file for your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664 and then just boot into recovery and browse to the update zip you downloaded.
Using the manual method is safe and doesn't require unlocking or rooting your phone.

Phone did not upgrade to ICS properly

First of all I apologize if this has been brought up before in other posts. I am in a mixture of frustration and panic right now because I tried upgrading to ICS on my Rogers SGS2 LTE, and it failed.
Using Kies, I followed the prompts, and for whatever reason it didn't finish. Now when I boot up the phone, it keeps telling me to use the recovery mode option in Kies. However, if I do try to use recovery mode, it always times out and tells me I may need to contact a Samsung service center. The computer has no problem communicating with the phone, AFAIK.
Basically, I'm here to ask what options I have. Currently, i'm trying to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 , but because the stock TAR is taking a long time to download, I'm asking if I have any other options. I would like to keep the data on my phone, but if I have to wipe it to return it to normal I'm willing to do that.
Please help.
Reboot and try again

I've tried rebooting the computer I was using, and I've also tried another computer with no luck. I *think* I was rooted. I remember doing something a long time ago involving odin. I never installed Cyanogenmod or any other 3rd party roms.
I had Superuser under my apps, if that helps.
I wish I could reply sooner but this board is making me wait 5 mins between posts. Sorry. It's like I'm in the emergency room with a gunshot wound and I'm waiting for the doctor to finish his smoke break, then his coffee break, then washroom break, jesus
by CWM, I think you're asking about Clockwordmod? If so, yes, I had that on my phone. Does this mean I can't use the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 to fix my phone now? Or can I still proceed.
If you have superuser then most likely you are rooted and since you have clockworkmod especially then kies is not gonna update your phone. Your on Rodgers so you need to find the stock firmware and flash it. I'm on att or I could link you to one that would work. I got my stock firmware from Samsung website. Try going to sammobile and see if you can find the stock firmware for your phone. I'm sure since its Samsung they should have Rodgers firmware to. Download the stock firmware and flash it in Odin onto to your phone and then kies should work. If you can't find the stock firmware at sammobile then look for the stock firmware here on xda I'm sure someone on Rodgers has it....
Edit. The link up there to Odin back to stock should work. Just download the file and follow the steps in order and don't leave one out. There are no shortcuts when it comes to flashing a phone or it could be rendered useless for anything more than a paperweight. Konane is real good and would not lead anyone wrong....

I would still like to get ICS on my phone. I noticed on Sammobile's site that there is a firmware for 4.04 that was released recently. Would I somehow be able to use that, combined with Odin, to get ICS on my phone? In other words, follow all the steps in the aforementioned thread, except, use this newer firmware file? Sorry I realize this may sound like a dumb noob question, but I want to make sure I do things right.

If you're back to stock and on Rogers, you should be able to update using Kies.
The thing is, when Odin fixed my phone, it didn't remove Superuser, so doesn't that mean my phone isn't stock anymore? I was expecting Odin to basically reset my phone back to factory settings, but it seems to have just reverted it back to before I tried updating to ICS with kies.

I haven't used the stock 3e that much always just flash cwm but I would suggest that you do a factory data reset to from the recovery if 3e gives that option I've never used it so I'm not sure. But if you are still on cwm recovery kies will not ever update your phone until you put everything back stock. You must have just flashed the kernel only. Flashing just the kernel does not wipe anything you need to flash the stock firmware from sammobile in Odin and that will do a full wipe and restore everything to stock

[Q] Help with upgrading from GB to ICS via Kies

So I had downloaded Kies and it was ready to upgrade my blaze to ICS, but I read that the phone should be unrooted first. So I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
Apparently that was a mistake. Now I get the following error in Kies:
"Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies" "Current firmware version: PDA:LB7 / PHONE:LF4 / CSC:LB7 (TMB)"
Should I have just upgraded without unrooting? Why is it telling me this? I thought this was the stock ROM? If I keep flashing me Blaze with different ROMs without completely reformatting, will that slow it down?
You gotta go back to the OG rom before the first update.... If u look there is a thread about it on here somewhere

I used this and now Kies is timing out trying to upgrade to ICS when it gets to the 100% downloading firmware part. Apparently reading the thread this tar isn't good for upgrading to ICS. But you did somehow?
Yup it took me a couple tries but it worked

that's a kies issue. lets face it, it sucks. but that's the only tar I've been able to find that puts it back to Samsung Official and allows you to upgrade via kies. If you dont trust the links I have, you can find the tar at sammobile.com but you'll have to register to download

[FIX] "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies" is fine and 100% working. I can personally confirm this ;]

I never understood why people choose to use Kies... I personally hate it. It is much faster and easier to do it the XDA way and root/CWM and then flash whatever rom you want. If you want I'll post the quicker way to do this. No one has hard bricked from this method and its quite simple.
Root your device (you already have I see)
Install CWM HERE. (make sure not to check re-partition)
Boot into CWM by holding Volume UP and Volume DOWN and pressing POWER. USB must be unplugged. (could take up to 20 seconds to load CWM)
Flash your new ICS modem HERE in CWM
Now you can install any ROM you wish. You can install the stock ICS rom or a modified ROM. It is best to always have CWM just in case something messes up you have options to fix. If you install through Kies you have to install CWM over again anyways. This is faster. Now to install a ROM, there is a common process that will help out....
To install a ROM:
Boot into CWM
Perform a factory/reset
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvik cache (under advanced)
Install zip (ROM)
Reboot and let your phone sit for at least 5 minutes, 10 is preferred.
Newbie Guide for Modding
You can read the above link for a small rundown on CWM and its available options. If you are here on XDA you probably should have CWM.
I had unrooted my device before installing CWM and didn't see the part that says to root it before hand. I installed it, seems to work fine. Will I have any problems.
Also, I just learned you're instructions are missing a step, I have flash the actual ICS ROM here:

Before the radio mod you listed. Other than that, thanks!
P.S. What do you mean by "modem"?
