No, it doesn't work. It's only unlocked for international SIMs. There's a thread here somewhere about people trying/failing and talking about buying a Rogers one in order to use AT&T with their LTE.
Thanks man. On the other hand when I pay a full price for the phone should they take the lock off it? I believe it must be a way.

God you would think they'd carrier unlock it, wouldn't you? Or maybe Motorola directly? Have no experience with this at all.

No, not possible.
So, is the code embedded in device's rom not to take any att, tmobile or sprint cards? Or is it managed by some kind of chipset? If the phone is unlocked there should be no simlock at all. Anyone has any technical knowledge about it??

It won't even work roaming with a 3rd-country SIM installed... I tested this weekend in Phoenix with my Telcel (Mexico) sim in there. It saw AT&T and just barely registered before the phone went to "emergency calls only." I know it connected for just a moment with Telcel because I later - with the Telcel SIM back in another known-good GSM phone - got an SMS from the network suggesting I buy one of their exorbitantly-priced roaming data plans. It was time-stamped at the same time I was trying to register on AT&T with the Telcel SIM in the Maxx HD.
I'll give it a proper try inside Mexico this weekend and see what happens. I suspect it will work. I'm a little bit surprised it wouldn't even let me roam, the block appears to be at the network level.
Thanks man. Keep everyone posted when you test it down in Mexico. Still wondering why don't they let us use it on any network.

It works great. I had to manually enter the APN information as expected. In network settings I had to force UMTS to get an HSPA connection. I'm posting from Mexico now... display shows H+ at the top. I only see the carrier name when I swipe down from the top of the screen.

I actually sat in a parking lot on the US side for half an hour to get the settings right.

Were you connected to a Mexican carrier? Or US Tmobile?
No, i parked close enough to the border to get a Telcel signal. I wanted to do it while I was still in the USA, ya kinda have to watch your back in some border towns.
I didn't want to have to keep one eye on the street, and needed Google maps to be working the moment I crossed.
I didn't attempt to connect to an American network.

The mobile hotspot feature does not work while roaming, the phone's firmware still tries to check with a Verizon server for authorization. Of course it can't connect, so no hotspot.

so does it accept foreign sims
Not to roam on a US network. Foreign SIM on foreign network works fine, just configure data APN's and you're good to go.

is it the same for maxx hd also?
Yes, I only have the Maxx HD.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda premium
It is some kind of lock at the radio firmware level.
Same thing with the OG RAZR - the bands are activated but it is not accepting American GSM sims.

I was looking to buy the inspire unlocked from bestbuy. I already have the old data plan 15$ unlimited (grandfathered) + unlimited family messaging. If I pop my sim into the phone will ATT charge me for using an inspire? Even if my rom is changed and my sim card is the old 3g one not the 4g? Thanks
Yes. 10 char
Really? I am using an unlocked european Desire hd right now and they haven't said anything. But it only gets edge. Does that matter?

If you can get ahold of an unlocked Telus DHD you can get away with the data plan you currently have.
If you use the Inspire you will get caught since they have record of the IMEI numbers.
They didn't give me a 4g sim card, its still the same 3g card.

The 4G SIM is for the upcoming LTE, all current phones use the standard 3G SIM.
I bought mine off contract and I got to keep my 20$ unlimited plan they just had to switch me to the hspa unlimited. At the worst you should only have to pay five dollars more a month.

AT&T lied.
I hear that there are 4g sims, but speeds don't seem to be effected by swapping.
The 4G sim card is only for LTE wince HSPA still uses 3G or 3.5G a new sim card will make no difference.

you dont really need a new sim. i am using my sim card from 2006 and i get 3-4Mbps download and 2Mbps upload on the ATT network. sim card really doesnt play into it from what i can tell.

Dont let me see you type any informational text on here again, Verizon and VM uses CDMA but VM blocks any phone that it attempted to be flashed.

You might be able to esn clone your triumph (or other vm android phone) to a droid x. It's an expensive experiment though. Also, some people believe it's illegal. I personally don't think it's illegal since the rule was in place to prevent people from acquiring someone's cell info and then stealing that victim's service.
Well I have some extra old unactivated sprint phones so Mabey I can swap one with it...

Wife just got an HTC ONE XL.... came with a sim card.
Had a hard time getting it activated... but eventually ....
After playing with it for a couple hours i found that it would not send SMS images.
Finally did a chat with ATT and was informed that the account had been changed to a Pay Data plan and that the Sim card listed was not a LTE sim card.
Hard to fathom that 2 people before never made that connection and that they actually sent an LTE phone without the proper SIM card.
Said it will take 3 days to get the LTE card when the phone was sent overnight.

AT&T never informed me that they had no 4g in our area. Needless to say I found out the same way you did. They're really "good" for that.

Turns out that everything was wrong...
1) it is an HTC One VX not HTC One LX
2) ATT only uses one type (different sizes) of SIM cards and they are 3g/4g and LTE compatible.
3) The person who activated the phone, put the phone on a Pay per use plan (not LTE)...
4) The rep I just got off the phone with, is fixing that... temp 200mb LTE plan until the Unlimited LTE plan is put back on, Credit to cover the cost and fixed a number of other issues (like turning me on paperless billing).
So I was in the wrong thread... sorry bout that.

As a former employee I used to get mistakes like this from all sorts if co workers. Hated it. I knew how to fix it, just couldn't tell. Also you know have an LTE sim card when the 9th and 10th number is 25 or 27
