Dont let me see you type any informational text on here again, Verizon and VM uses CDMA but VM blocks any phone that it attempted to be flashed.

You might be able to esn clone your triumph (or other vm android phone) to a droid x. It's an expensive experiment though. Also, some people believe it's illegal. I personally don't think it's illegal since the rule was in place to prevent people from acquiring someone's cell info and then stealing that victim's service.
Well I have some extra old unactivated sprint phones so Mabey I can swap one with it...

Metro uses cdma phones, while the Inspire is a gsm phone. Radios are not compatible.

You cant unlock a GSM phone to work on a CDMA network. The hard ware doesnt support it. When you unlock a GSM phone that just allows you to use it with another sim card based company.

Look at Verizon and Sprint phones. (Both use CDMA networks) Or any wireless carrier that operates on CDMA - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_wireless_communications_service_providers
Then look at xda development threads for those phones. (will have tutorials if they can be unlocked/rooted/s-off'd)

Though I'm sure it will be ridiculed by android fans, my second gen WP7 devices are all working fine on gophone dumbphone data plans, no limitations for 50 a month, I've streamed tons of Netflix and browsed nonstop, no 2 gig data cap, just true unlimited data. Just another benefit to using WP7 I suppose.

ZOMG yesss! Running to my local at&t store to exchange for wp7.
But seriously... All us android people can just buy an unbranded phone for dumbphone plan. I think that's halarious though. WP7 makes such a small difference they don't even worry about them using the dumbphone plan lol.

Precisely what I expected. So, android phones get full data services on dumbphone plans if they're unbranded? Serious question.
The phone platform has nothing to do with the plan, if you get them separately.

We're trying to figure out what is causing him to be able to use a non-data plan but still get data, as it obviously not the OS. This could be big news for a lot of people, once z33 figures out what it actually is.

No, you misread sir. I said android UNBRANDED phones get the same plan. The fact that they would let AT&T BRANDED WP7 phones get the dumbphone plan is amusing.

Ah, my apologies then. In uk only iphones can use iphone data plans. I have to pay six pound for 500 mb of 3G so would love unlimited

The first Gen iPhone trick works to get unlimited data ...
And when caught using it on other phones you won't be put onto a tiered plan. The dumb phone data worked on my winmo phone, but they caught on eventually.

So, I have a list of devices that have and haven't worked so far, I'll add to this as I go.
Working:
Focus Flash
Focus S
Lumia 800*
titan
Not Working:
I9000*
GS2*
Dell Streak*
Samsung Focus
Motorola Backflip
All phones with asterisks are unbranded
My friend has the Wildfire, which is nice, but 3.2" screen sucks. I need to get him a good phone. So I'm going to buy him one, but which is a good phone to start with and easy to port. I saw the sprint nexus and it looked a little difficult. The evo was a little easier. But im open to any carrier or phone, anyone have good experiences?
I am also interested in porting my phone to metro... I have TMobile gs2 not sure its possible since I have sim tech.

It won't be possible with GSM devices. Only CDMA can be flashed to Metro. Try Simple mobile if you want GSM

Okay guys, on the day I got my Infuse I thought I give it a try and put it on the Simple Mobile 3G network. So what ticks me is that I'm always stuck on a 2G network with a big "E" on my status bar. I even called Simple Mobile customer service and they said they can't fix that. Dammit, there has got to be some way to bypass AT&T. Help me out guys. Thanks.

that's just a prepay plan on t-mobile. the infuse will need an att or similar sim card. t-mobile has unique frequencies and features on there network. it is not att's fault. edge only is typical with att phones. try strait talk, they sell sims now and you can specify att compatible.
Yeah...nothing you can do except switch carriers...go to straight talk, its $45 a month for unlimited everything, just go to there website and order an att compatible sim.
Your pretty much guaranteed to get edge when using an att phone on t mobile, simply because they run in differnt cell frequencies or whatever you wanna call it

Hey thanks guys, I appreciate the info. Now that I know, yeah I guess that sounds like a best solution is to just switch carriers. Then again I feel that I made a mistake by buying an Infuse. Dammit, should of gotten the Galax Epic 4G and flashed it to Cricket. But yup thanks guys.
I've been told you cant get 3g because the Infuse is a 4g phone. That could also be an issue as well. I ran into that problem when att had to replace my captivate with my infuse. This is what they told me.

That's not the issue at all...for one thing, the infuse isn't even real 4g...it runs on hspa+, hspa is 3g...so when you have "H+" you have 4g...when you have "H" you have 3g...when you have "E" you have edge/2g
These phones are backwards compatible...if they wernt then you would constantly lose data signal
