Okay guys, on the day I got my Infuse I thought I give it a try and put it on the Simple Mobile 3G network. So what ticks me is that I'm always stuck on a 2G network with a big "E" on my status bar. I even called Simple Mobile customer service and they said they can't fix that. Dammit, there has got to be some way to bypass AT&T. Help me out guys. Thanks.

that's just a prepay plan on t-mobile. the infuse will need an att or similar sim card. t-mobile has unique frequencies and features on there network. it is not att's fault. edge only is typical with att phones. try strait talk, they sell sims now and you can specify att compatible.
Yeah...nothing you can do except switch carriers...go to straight talk, its $45 a month for unlimited everything, just go to there website and order an att compatible sim.
Your pretty much guaranteed to get edge when using an att phone on t mobile, simply because they run in differnt cell frequencies or whatever you wanna call it

Hey thanks guys, I appreciate the info. Now that I know, yeah I guess that sounds like a best solution is to just switch carriers. Then again I feel that I made a mistake by buying an Infuse. Dammit, should of gotten the Galax Epic 4G and flashed it to Cricket. But yup thanks guys.
I've been told you cant get 3g because the Infuse is a 4g phone. That could also be an issue as well. I ran into that problem when att had to replace my captivate with my infuse. This is what they told me.

That's not the issue at all...for one thing, the infuse isn't even real 4g...it runs on hspa+, hspa is 3g...so when you have "H+" you have 4g...when you have "H" you have 3g...when you have "E" you have edge/2g
These phones are backwards compatible...if they wernt then you would constantly lose data signal

Needs some good suggestions.....i finally sim unlock my infuse 5 mins ago.and my tmobile sim is working. But im gettin bad service in tmobile. Is their anymore fix i need or im missing something to make the infuse my daily phone.with tmobile service? Or no chance @all..... tnx

At&t uses different radio bands for 3g/4g. You will only be able to access the edge network.
So what do u think using the infuse in tmobile? Is it better to just get the phone thats locked to its own carrier.or the sim unlock phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using XDA Premium App
Your going to have really slow data. That's the only difference. It will still work just fine just take for ever to use the net and things like that since it will only be on edge. I'd just suggest sticking with a carrier specific phone if your worried about data speeds.
Wat phone from at&t will fully work for tmobile 3g/4g data...

Likely none - I have yet to see an AT&T phone that supported the AWS 3G band that T-Mobile uses.
been using my phone for a few months now...but suddently this evening... I lost my 4g and only connects to my t-mobile via 2g. I try going to the settings....and when I select the WCDMA/GSM auto mode...I lose service (no bars)...but when I set to GSM only (2g), then I get good 2g signal....
Any thoughts?
I tried hard reset...nothing working
I have the same issue. True calling T-Mobile, they sent me a new sum card for free.

is the sim the problem?
Maybe you went over your data cap and got throttled down to 2G?

I check my usage.. I'm only at 105mb...my cap is 2GB with 2g after the 2gb
Tmobile is most likely having network issues where u are. Try doing a battery pull and sim card pull. Wait 2 mins then put both back in. if that fails its a network issue.

Yeah, I had that happen when I first got the phone. It turned out to be something funky going on with my account on the corporate level. So that makes me think it's not the phone and you're due for a call with Big Magenta.

That's BS. Bring it to a T-Mobile store.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA Premium App
Just have the store put a sim card in and see if that clears up the problem.

its a good idea to just have an extra SIM in your desk in case you need to swap it out.
Update radios?
A sales rep at Tmobile told me something about updating the radios

Try a different T-Mo SIM first to be sure. There are RUU's out there, just easier to work out the easy solutions first...
Same Issue (No solution)
Hey guys im having the same issue as OP and just wanted to piggy back ride for this thread. I recently bought the mytouch 4g slide for a wopping $25 by the person that i am and rooting i quickly rooted the mytouch and installed cyanogenmod. To my dismay i only receive Edge network before and after rooting i was wondering is it the phone it self as in APN settings or is it just plan old phone ?

Maybe T-Mobile finally moved on from the 3G bands designed for that phone.
Unless you are not getting data at all, then you have some APN's to set. Or... some older CM (IIRC) didn't have 3G.

Face this issue with the HTC Glacier months back. They have removed the 3G & 4G basebands from their towers. The only way possible is by unlocking the other bands with the "Qualcomm band unlock" mod/hack here on XDA
My best friend has a crappy Pantech phone and is thinking of buying HTC Inspire 4G for $50 from a guy I work with. Yes he has at&t, but with switching sim card to a non-4G phone to a 4G phone would that be a issue or would that work just fine??
My friend had switched from an iPhone 3g to a Sony xperia play 4g without updating the similar card. It works he just wont reach the speeds for 4g(3.5g) even though it will say he is on it.

Not necessarily true, I know there are some out there using 2+ year sim cards who are claiming they are getting 4G speeds. I think even Ze has stated that he uses an old sim card and still gets 4G speeds..
There's a difference between the old sim cards and the 3G cards but no difference after since its not really "4G"

It could have just been his phone(my friends) we don't live in a 4g area but we go to the capital and they have 4g there so I'm unsure and I apologize for any inconvenience

no need to apologize to anyone man! just saying that I don't think the SIM card plays a huge role, if any, on how the data speeds for the phone are. It's typically based upon the network you can connect to which in turn is dependent on the radio, build.prop and all that stuff and not soo much the sim card.
I am using a cingular card. I had it for a few years before ATT more or less took back control and it became ATT again. I don't even have a 4G plan. Picking certain servers on speedtest.net and I have achieved 6000kbps at times.
Your friends concern should be whether he has a smartphone plan or not with that pantech or ATT will make him upgrade his plan to a 4G plan when he uses that inspire.
I currently have pretty damn fast internet but I'm about to be moving to an area where I can only get Satellite or Mobile Broadband internet. I was wondering if I switched to Sprint and tethered if it would be worth it? I;m constantly online downloading stuff and need to figure out a way. Satellite and Mobile Broadband are usually limited. So i thought of Tethering with Sprint. I need to figure something out so any info or ideas would be extremely helpful Thanks for all the responses.
Any ideas?

From what I hear, Sprint's network is not that great for that purpose.
I could be totally wrong, definitely might want to hear from someone who has Sprint and uses that service.

I am a sprint customer. You can view the coverage map here http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp
Sprint is not that big company and has limited services depending upon the area.
Sprint do have their own teethering plan for the phone.
I'm a virgin mobile customer, virgin mobile uses sprints network. We were unlimited then we got throttled last week...2.5 gb of data

My Nexus will be here tomorrow and I'm wanting to sign up with AIO's $60 plan. On their site it is asking for an IMEI. My concern is that the new Nexus IMEI may not be compatible with their 4g network. Has anyone else had success with AIO? I don't want to be stuck on 3g. Should I be seeking an IMEI from another device as a work-around? If so, what device, and where? My current phone is a 1st gen HTC Evo with sprint. Any help and advice is much appreciated!
Ive been wondering the same thing also.

They're using AT&T's network, I'm on it right now and get HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE. Works 100% fine. Used the same SIM card on my nexus 4 and had great service.

I've also wondered if AIO's LTE (AT&T) will work on the N5. So you have the N5 and it is working no problem? How are the speeds on LTE and HSPA+ (yes i know they throttle, just wondering how it feels)??

Unfortunately i don't have have a Sim to swap. I'm wondering if I order one using the IMEI from the new Nexus 5 will I be able to access 4g? Or will I be bumped to 3g because the Nexus 5 does not show up in their system?
Using Aio SIM from my N4 with not so good reception where I live and getting decent speed.
FYI, the N4 wasn't in their system either and needed the EMEI to activate.
Activating a nexus 5 on aio will be a cake walk. Nothing like the problems people over on sprint are having.
