[Q] Does Sprint really have UNLIMITIED data? - General Questions and Answers

I currently have pretty damn fast internet but I'm about to be moving to an area where I can only get Satellite or Mobile Broadband internet. I was wondering if I switched to Sprint and tethered if it would be worth it? I;m constantly online downloading stuff and need to figure out a way. Satellite and Mobile Broadband are usually limited. So i thought of Tethering with Sprint. I need to figure something out so any info or ideas would be extremely helpful Thanks for all the responses.

Any ideas?

From what I hear, Sprint's network is not that great for that purpose.
I could be totally wrong, definitely might want to hear from someone who has Sprint and uses that service.

I am a sprint customer. You can view the coverage map here http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp
Sprint is not that big company and has limited services depending upon the area.
Sprint do have their own teethering plan for the phone.

I'm a virgin mobile customer, virgin mobile uses sprints network. We were unlimited then we got throttled last week...2.5 gb of data

Is the nexus 4g unlimited on the 3g network

Just wondering if its unlimited or capped at 5gb

Unlimited, the same as every other smartphone on Sprint. The only limit is on data used while roaming.

Yes and no. You have unlimited data yes... but if you pass 5GB of Sprint 4G or in-network 3G for 3 consecutive months, you'll get a call from the compliance department.

So unlimited really isn't unlimited is that what your saying? I just signed up with sprint 2 weeks ago and I am up to 12 gig as of tonight so I guess I should lay low for a bit then. The carriers are making money big time with this bandwidth crap. I use 2 terabite a month on my servers and it cost me 15.00 so I have no idea what all this fuss is about. Thanks for the tip though...

NO you wont. Stop spreading bad information. The only way to get a call or letter from sprint is excessive roaming. Tethering is limited to 5gb. Or torrenting.

Mmhmm
Its unlimited. The only limits are on broadband cards and for the tethering option, IF you pay for that.
I've used no less than 10gb per month since I signed up and there haven't been any calls from anyone.

I'm not spreading bad information. Go to your local (corporate) Sprint store and ask for a hard copy of your contract. It states 5GB on Sprint network, 300MB roaming. The compliance department will only get involved if your line is flagged. Only 2 ways I'm aware of to get flagged, #1 roam excessively (voice, data, or both) for 3 consecutive months, #2 use excessive Sprint bandwidth on a congested tower, or area for 3 consecutive months.
Your bandwidth cap DOES NOT change with the tethering add-on; you are just notified without a hard copy of the existing caps.
It's not Sprint actually supplying DATA services to the towers, but another ISP that sells bandwidth to Sprint. I know that only because I've had to upgrade some hardware at the Notre Dame Campus Sprint antennas, and the internet connection was supplied by Comcast.

The tethering is capped now. This happened like a month ago. Nd again... It's another change that Sprint makes that doesn't protect the customer from being grandfathered in.

We can thank people like you for us losing the Sprint premier program and someday unlimited data. 32gb of usage is bull****. You are obviously tethering and are not paying for that feature and eventually we will all lose unlimited.

Firstly, its my data to use how I like. Secondly, prove it.
Don't paint me a 'bad guy' cause I'm using the services I'm offered.
It's not people like me that are keeping sprint in the red and thus forcing them to cut services; it's more their poor management. So if you're gonna get at me with nothing more than accusations that I'm 'obviously tethering', you might as well start a thread and call out everyone ...

32GB is a bit excessive, but this Guy may not have a computer/internet at home so he uses his phone. Literally 2GB can be burned in a day easily, just using it moderately. (ie, how Sprint, VZW, AT&T, etc, portray in their ads)

Data has always been capped. Not to a point where they limit/charge, but if you look at the hard copy (full paper printed copy) it says you have 5GB as stated in the acceptable use policy portion of the contract. Look it up at Sprint.com or a Sprint store.

Thanks. Just read it start to finish and there is still no cap.
However, they can terminate service for dozens of ridiculous reasons. One reason is rooting.

I'm not in an lte market right now, I'm on hspa/umts only. No 3.5g. 3g only. I have used 2.7gb of UNLIMITED DATA and I got flagged. Wtf is that?
HTC = Hate The Consumer
they throttle the top 5% on unlimited plans. spoke to a rep yesterday. although your usage to me does not look like a 5%'er
My average usage is 2.5 to 3.8 according to the rep I spoke to. He is also curious why I got flagged. He said he will look into it and call me back.

there are two threads here about this... one is titled throttled and the other is something along the same lines.. check them out for tips and gripes

Sprint may not have very good coverage but I can use all the unlimited unthrottled data I want . Not trying to rub it in (cause I used yo have AT&T and got throttled and capped) just saying it was a good switch for me.

The sad part is that even though sprint does not throttle their speeds Max at at about what we are throttled to lol. I left them in august and have not looked back.

Really??? I get a good 1-1.5 mbps continuous on 3g on my phone and computer when I use the hotspot. I font have 4g in my area to test that though. But when sprint launches their 4g lte in 2013 I will have it hopefully still unlimited too.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Yeah I was super dissapointed they did wimax and not lte.
Realize our 3g speeds are typically 1.5-5 , I have hit 12
When one gets throttled and can accomplish the apn trick...they are hitting 1.5-5 ...throttled
In my case here in Dallas i would get about 400kbps dload in most areas, which is why I left Sprint. Its different from area to area tho.

Yep had sprint for a few years and recently switched to At&t, the switch was night and day. I Showed my phone to a friend that still has sprint and he was amazed at how fast thing were loading especially YouTube videos and I wasn't even on At&t lte. I don't have an unlimited plan so I don't get throttled and average 1.3gbs per month so I'm good.

Yea, I hate to champion one corrupt corporation over another, but I'd much rather be on at&t's network since the fall-back network is still leaps and bounds faster than Verizon's fall-back network (and they have had a number of outages on their LTE network this year so far). Fortunately I live in San Antonio so I have access to 3 major carriers' LTE networks.
That said, at&t can piss off with their restrictive policies. I only hate Verizon slightly more.
But my God 25mbs is amazing if could offer that every where I pay tom more I just wish my wifi that fast

I get LTE for AT&T in weird places here. I live in Oklahoma and get LTE of course in the bigger areas but sometimes LTE 4g in like small towns kind of cool but kind of weird.
You think 25Mbps is fast, check my sig...
Lol yeah. I just came back from Anaheim. Hot damn. 16 Mbps. But speed test used up 30 MB of data... I'm now being charged $30 for using 204.6 MB of data. >_>

Samsung Infuse on Simple Mobile Network. Can't get 3G.

Okay guys, on the day I got my Infuse I thought I give it a try and put it on the Simple Mobile 3G network. So what ticks me is that I'm always stuck on a 2G network with a big "E" on my status bar. I even called Simple Mobile customer service and they said they can't fix that. Dammit, there has got to be some way to bypass AT&T. Help me out guys. Thanks.

that's just a prepay plan on t-mobile. the infuse will need an att or similar sim card. t-mobile has unique frequencies and features on there network. it is not att's fault. edge only is typical with att phones. try strait talk, they sell sims now and you can specify att compatible.
Yeah...nothing you can do except switch carriers...go to straight talk, its $45 a month for unlimited everything, just go to there website and order an att compatible sim.
Your pretty much guaranteed to get edge when using an att phone on t mobile, simply because they run in differnt cell frequencies or whatever you wanna call it

Hey thanks guys, I appreciate the info. Now that I know, yeah I guess that sounds like a best solution is to just switch carriers. Then again I feel that I made a mistake by buying an Infuse. Dammit, should of gotten the Galax Epic 4G and flashed it to Cricket. But yup thanks guys.
I've been told you cant get 3g because the Infuse is a 4g phone. That could also be an issue as well. I ran into that problem when att had to replace my captivate with my infuse. This is what they told me.

That's not the issue at all...for one thing, the infuse isn't even real 4g...it runs on hspa+, hspa is 3g...so when you have "H+" you have 4g...when you have "H" you have 3g...when you have "E" you have edge/2g
These phones are backwards compatible...if they wernt then you would constantly lose data signal
