no pc/phone connectivity need help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys,
Ive been trying to fix my issues for the almost 2 days. i was trying to get UMS storage working using the tools that are around (in xda) and scripts, it was kind of hit or miss, somehow i lost my usb drives (i think the phone lost its hardware id somehow) bottom line i need my usb connectivity as that is the way i use the phone the most. i can still go into recovery, i flashed back into my nandroid but it didnt fix the driver issue, then tried new JB rom and still broken, almost like its the PC (i did try diff cables that use to both work) i literally must have flashed EVERY driver known to man and did fresh no driver installs, also tried using pc kies a couple of times so i have no clue.
if i hook up the phone to pc i get a usb device not recognized, adb has no connectivity and i tried manually loading the drivers but its like the phone doesnt know wtf to do because some adb interface drivers loaded it up (not anymore) but it would say it had error 10 ("device cannot start") and error 43.
upate. fresh copy of windows didnt help also the nexus has no issues on all the cables

Bump

Any ideas ? I cleaned the plug, used blow drier to heat the board up as suggested by a thread, reinstalled windows, kies, tried booting in download mode nothing worked. I almost sure my hardware actually lost its id. Is hwid contained in flashable portion? I know its not ROM data maybe nv items or anything else

It sounds to me that the USB connector on the phone is fried. I had the almost the same identical issue on a gs2. I tried 3 computer and no luck. So I broke down and had to send it in for repair.

Yea I kind of think that could be it too but was wondering if it is possible to flash the hwid portion or not. BTW any1 done a micro USB replacement ? Looks like it would be hard as **** and I don't have insurance. I suspect it to be bad though cause the stupid mhl adapter is finicky as hell too

Can you get Oden to recognize the phone? I was in luck, the phone was still under warranty from Samsung. And they fixed it for me for free.

Neg PC won't recognize phone at all. I am conflicted I honestly think there is something to the hwid issue. Is that flashable?

You might want to use mobile Oden from market and try to flash the stock Image and return the phone to factory. You do have a backup of your stock rom? Right!

[Q] Why can't i connect using the usb?

Well guys i have a big problem. Its shouldn't be that big considering its a connection problem, but i can't seem to be able to fix it. I've been trying to connect to my laptop/desktop using the supplied micro usb and a blackberry micro usb, but it won't let me transfer files. the option to turn on storage doesn't even pop up on the notifications. it charges but thats it. i have all necessary drivers and the USB debugging option is checked. Any info or help would be welcome thanks!!
What O/S are you using?
I had the same problem. No one gave me a problem solving answer

USB Debugging should be unchecked and Mass Storage is Checked.
Settings > Phone Storage > Mass Storage only = Checked.
hope this helps.
I've tried that before w no success :-( thanks though

Mine wouldn't connect until i reinstalled the LG T-Mobile G2x drivers and now it mounts every time. The drivers in the updater tool installed the 3.2.1 drivers which is for the G-slate. You need the 2.2 drivers which are for the G2x, if you need them just pm me and i can send them to you.
i deleted and reinstalled the 2.2 drivers with no success. im starting to think there's something wrong with my phone. But it could also be that i'm now running the Gingerbread leak from yesterday. rooted and working perfectly... well almost. i just need to get usb connection working.
Similar issue. This worked for me on Win 7.
Uninstall the LG Drivers and reinstall the G2x 2.2 package from LG.COM /us/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp (I can't post links)
Plug the phone in and go to Device Manager. There should be a USB Composite Device that is not properly installed. Right click it and select Update Driver Software.
Select 'Browse my computer', then 'Let me pick'. Choose have disk, and browse to where the LG Drivers are installed. Likely C:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LG United Mobile Driver\ and select lgbus9x.inf.
Then pick LGE Android Platform Composite USB Device from the list of drivers. Should be the top option. Hit next.
I let it sit for a minute while the drivers installed. Some things registered in device manager right away, the LGE USB Modem for one. But, the drives didn't. Unplugged the phone, plugged it back in, and the drives popped up under Portable Devices.
@conspirator_boff i tried ur steps, but i couldn't find the USB Composite Device in the list of the USB Controllers in Device manager. Am i missing a step?
Humm, depending how it is connected it could have a different name. Do you have anything that isn't installed properly?
Also, if you haven't, you might want to look into mother board / system driver updates.
I'm in exactly the same boat. Running on Win 7 64 bit.. tried both 2.3 and 2.2 drivers but no luck. It doesn't get detected AT ALL. Tried with 3 different USB Cable on 3 different ports. I can connect other phones to the same port/cable without any issues.
I suspect there is actually something wrong with the phone or with a specific batch of phones. I googled around and read about a couple (husband and wife) who connected both their G2x's to the same computer on the same port/cable 1 at a time. One always worked, and the other never worked. I believe he eventually returned it and got a new one which worked fine.
We may have ended up with the ones from a bad batch?

Hmm interesting. I can't say the same for mine since this was the very first time I actually connected it up to the computer. Mine is completely stock and I bought it at launch.
Just to give you guys an update:
I took my G2x to a local T-Mobile store. They tested my phone out on their own computers and it did not mount via USB. They ordered a replacement phone so it is actually an issue for some people and not drivers/system setup. Apparently I was the 3rd case that the store had encountered.
Mine wouldn't connect until i turned USB debugging on, now it connects every time. Might give that a try.

[Q] Display going bad on my Infuse 4G

Hi to all this morning,
I spoke to the local AT&T manager about my phone. The lock screen numbers and letters are "burned" on to my screen. Every time I go to a "light backround, I can see the month, time and "phone locked". The manager told me to call AT&T service. I called the 800 number and was told I have to do a "hard reset" on my phone for the warranty procedure. I have an "unlocked", "rooted" phone. Will a hard reset unroot and lock my phone?
Do I have to "unroot" and "lock" my phone before calling them back?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Jim
Before u return the phone to store, I would strongly recommend restoring to how it was when you got it (stock).
How do lock and unroot?

My computer connects via usb for mass storage an media on com port 9
I have downloaded all the latest usb drivers for Windows Visa. When I use the procedure suggested by gtg, the com port does not show up in the Comm ID box. I have tried and re-tried several time with the same result.

I assume that you are using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251 one.
I had to use this a whole bunch of times when I just started flashing and though it worked really well the first time after that it started to not work as well. Switch your USB ports that you plug your phone into. This will make it show up in a different are other than just COMM 9. If you cannot get it to work in any USB try a different computer, leave it sitting there for a long time. I don't think that it really had anything to do with my eventual sucess but after just leaving the battery out and the cord plugged into nothing made it work. Just telling you my experience. I hope that you are able to figure out what is wrong and flash back to stock before your screen gets any worse!
So you tried to odin back to stock and it doesn't work?

No problem. Glad that I could help. And do push the issue. Right to the manager if they still won't take it. Or you could try calling them and eventually you will find one rep who is willing to push it through. Either they will be dumb and don't know what they are doing or they will know where you are coming from and help get it returned. If not, and you are still under warranty you might be able to send it back to Samsung and see what they will do about it. Good luck!
i believe if its under 30 days they take it back on the spot and exchange it for you.. if not they might ask you if you have insurance on you phone and send it out to a authorized ATT repair store... just my expierience...

USB Storage can't be turned on

So I got an incident with my phone, if you wanna now about it, its at my sig, but the thing is that I dunno why or how, sometimes my computer does recognizes my phone and display the Turn on USB storage option at the notification bar, but each time I try to turn it on it just wont work. Attached is a logcat whenI try to enable it, maybe someone could tell me why it wont work.
What rom are you running for those off that are on the xda application?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Normally I got two nandroids a GB based one and an ICS based one, right now Im using both Eagle's Blood 2.3.7 v2.8 and ICS 4.0.3 Build 1. But I had this problem since... always. I'm a flashaholic so i have tested actually every rom from stock 2.2.2 to beta 4.0.3... I even have a nandroid of my original ROM (the one that came with it when y bought it and rooted it) and not even there works. The only clue i have right now is that only if I disable USB debugging it will randomly connect.
This may sound dumb but have you tried a different usb cable? I had the same problem and tried my girls and my phone was able to connect each and every time. another thing I noticed with my phone is that it sometimes won't connect using windows 7...xp no problem but 7 it plays hard to get.

Holy Mother of God! I did it! In one of those "random" times my comptuter recognized my phone I just pulled out the batt unplug/plug again the cable, keeping both vol buttons pressed and it reconginzed the APX decive! Then all I had to do was NVFlash again, restore the stock 2.2.2 Nandroid i had somewhere and play a bit with the USB mount/debbug options, flashed both storages (using gparted for the microSD) and it works! Now have to restore everything to my SD and reflash latest cm7...
Nice!

Did you ever figure this out? Sounds like your having the same problem that i am.
I've tried at least 6 different cables, home PC, work PC, laptop and a co-worker's PC that didn't have anything vmware installed (had a hunch that vmware usb drivers were the cause). Oh, all the computers were win7x64.
I've only rooted my phone and upgraded to 2.3.3 so nothing crazy going on there and it's worked for months since i did both of those.
I have a feeling that this may have been a recent windows update, but no clue when or which one because i haven't really cared that it didn't work. If i had to guess i'd say mine stopped working about 3 months ago... again, hard to remember.

Make sure usb debugging is turned off.
Plug in the phone, enable usb storage.
Right click on the phone drives in the explorer and click on eject.
Turn off usb storage.
Unplug and plug in again.
Enable usb storage.
Drives should work now.
This did it for me. Since then if I remember to eject before unplug I haven't seen any issues.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give that a shot.
Curious though, when yours was having problems, did windows detect anything? For instance, when I plugged mine into my co-workers pc there are zero pop ups about new hardware detected.

I had the same problem. Dirt in the mini-USB port can cause that problem.
Take a can of compressed air and blow it into the mini-USB port (blowing with your mouth isn't enough). Also, take a close look at the port with a magnifying glass and look for any dirt or discoloration in there.
Do the same with your cable.
Not working after install RemICS 1.3.2

Hi, this problem occur to me after I've installed RemICS 1.3.2 ROM (CM9 based), I did follow the installation steps from beginning, when the problem occur, I did re-flash the same ROM several times, but this problem still unsolved.
I did try all recommendations (blow out dirt, disable usb debugging etc) but still not success.
This ROM should able to detect USB when phone connected with PC, but somehow I don't know why. Any experts recommendation?

Hey, just thought I'd register an account because I stumbled upon this thread because I had the same issue verbatim and I managed to get it working.
I ended up using the USB 3.0 ports on my desktop and suddenly it picks up my g2x without fail everytime. With that said, I'm lead to believe that perhaps its an issue of power. Maybe the USB 2.0 ports you're using simply aren't providing enough power. Not sure what its worth or if my issue was something unrelated but maybe that bit of information is something to work with. =)
Found another solution that fixed the problem for me.
If you are using Windows XP, log on as an Administrator and open Device Manager
Select View > Show Hidden Devices
Scroll down to Storage Volumes, and expand
Right-click on each entry and select Update Driver.
This fixed the problem for me!

USB Device Not Recognized

All of a sudden I can charge but laptop won't recognize Infuse - any idea how to fix? It's not a cable or port or computer problem. I've tried on multiple machines with cords and various ports.
I just installed Unofficial CM10 JB 8/11 and have had this problem for the past few days.
Any idea how to fix? Not sure if it's the rom or what? Thanks!
Uh oh... sounds like you have my old problem with my infuse.... the usb controller may have died, usb port should be fine however. I had a pro unbrick my infuse because it was bricked and wuldnt connect to anything (mobiletechvideos) and he figured out that something usb was broken. For free he replaced the hub but still didnt work. He had to perform jtag to get it working (extremely complicated, requires taking the phone apart). He said it would be a lot easier and cheaper to just get a new phone hopefully your situation is different but goodluck, just saying whats happened to me, and some others have reported it happening.

[Q] USB Connected notice when no USB is plugged in

Title is pretty self explanatory.
In short, I've tried using ODIN to go back to stock, complete user data wipe. And it occurs all the time when USB debugging is on and at random times with it off. Trying to avoid having to buy a different phone(because I never buy the same phone twice).
EDIT: After getting frustrated, I downloaded the first usb app I saw on Google Play, USB Host Controller. I went through and pressed refresh on each window and unplugged my phone. Apparently it did the trick until I rebooted the phone. Amazing what can happen when you lose your cool.
Did you select repartition while using Odin? I always do that even though it says not to do so....it saved my neck when I first bricked it when I flashed a non-Sidekick rom way back in my noob days.
I am still somewhat of noob sometimes...guilty of the occasional brain fart.

Did you try using the Heimall rather than ODIN? Not sure of the difference but I wonder if it could fix it.
Well, my thinking is it's my hardware getting ready to die(Idk how, I've only had it 9 months) because it does it randomly on any firmware. Even stock unrooted.
Gonna try the Heimdall anyways. Won't hurt to try.

Have you tried taking a toothpick or similar and running it around the USB port to make sure there's nothing stuck in it?

I'll try that if the Heimdall doesn't do the trick. If not, I'll have to get a new phone(I can still use the SK4G...but not as a daily driver because SD slot is beginning to go as well.[And I know it's the SD Slot because the SD card I use with it works on my PC but doesn't wanna work in my SK4G])
EDIT: Looks like Heimdall and the toothpick trick did the job so far. Might get another phone anyways, just to have more than one type of android phone.
EDIT #2: After flashing a custom rom, the usb notification issue returns.
