Your Daily Driver - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Many people, newcomers and even old time users go through each individual ROM thread to find out which one is best for them.
This will help them easily understand what other people think about the ROM, what the pros and cons are, how stable it is, etc.

Which ROM is your daily driver and what was your previous one?
also why?
This may help newcomers different types of paths and which one to take.

Current: jellywiz rls 11
Previous: jellywiz rls 8 hybrid
Why: I like touchwiz jellybean and having Google wallet and flash, those roms give Me all of that which are the only things I need root for.
Jellywiz is actually the only rom I have ever tried, I am new to flashing roms but so far this rom has been stable and has given me everything I need, I have had no reason to switch to another one.

CleanROM 4.0 JB.

current: Jellywiz rls 12
previous: Beans 15

Device: Verizon Galaxy S3
Current ROM: AOKP M1
Previous ROM(s): ParanoidAndroid
Why? AOKP allows me to change the notification drawer background. aong with some other small extra customizations i like.

Device: Galaxy S3 Verizon
Current ROM: CM (CyanogenMod 10) M2
Stable?: Yes (some facebook crashes)
Previous ROM: CleanROM 2.5, 3.0, 3.1, Synergy r77
Why these ROMs?:
I've been on the search for a ROM that fits me, something that doesn't have too many customization options, but at the end that didn't seem to work out so well for me. CM10 M2 does have a little bit more customization options, but at the end, it feels amazing to use. I haven't ran into any kind of performance problems, just a couple of facebook crashes, but that might not be due to CM10, maybe just facebook problems?
All of these roms are amazing.
CleanROM is great if you're looking for something.. well.. clean? There's not too many add-ons or options to change, just a little de-bloat ROM with performance tweaks. Overall it's nice and clean.
Synergy had a lot of useful options and a lot of features, but because of my OCD personality, I just couldn't handle the ROM. When I think I messed up one thing on the ROM, i had to do a complete wipe... T____T but overall, awesome ROM.

Device: VZW Galaxy SIII
Current ROM: Liquid Smooth RC7 4.1.2 (AOSP)
Stable?: Yes
Previous ROM: Liquid Smooth RC5, Synergy ICS
Why these ROMs? Honestly i love AOSP and having that pure google feeling on my phone. Touchwiz is nice and synergy does one hell of a job with there roms but i can't get away from AOSP. Its faster, smoother, and i just prefer it. As far as choosing liquid, well its been by far the best AOSP rom i've run on my SIII, and i used them back on my OG Droid days so that helps as well. Anyways yeah thats it

Device: Sgs3
Current rom: eclipse
Stable: yes
Previous: synergy (all of them, except the current 84jb class), Jellybomb, cleanrom, jellywiz, paranoid android, aokp, slimbean.
Why: started on touchwiz and built from there. Tw on this device is far superior than previous devices, though recently the android 4.1.2 builds have been just amazing. I really cannot live without the theme chooser in aosp, so tw jb's will need some dark horse/jellybomb/etc to send me back.... Eclipse has been very hard to top for me, will be giving liquid a go though soon.

My Daily Driver
Phone: Verizon GS3 Rooted and Unlocked Boot loader

Highly stable: battery life with all the JB ROMs were horrific. This ROM is so stable.

AOKP M1 seems to be way more stable than CM10 M2
Battery life decreases normally, but for CM10 M2, i'm not sure if I just had a bad download, but the battery life just drops.
+1 for AOKP

Still using old CleanROM 2.1 w/ CleanKERNEL 1.2
Waiting for a dead solid Jelly Bean Rom

Been using AOKP M1 for a couple hours, since yesterday and all I can say is it's smooth and amazing.. it feels like butter (bad joke)
anyways, what I don't like about AOKP M1 though is there's a lot of settings that I have to mess with, but I like how Nova has the backup option so if I ever have to start from scratch, I can just restore from the backup.
Awesome ROM.

current: Galaxy-Mod RLS4
previous: Cleanrom 3.0
Galaxy-mod is definitely the best TW based ROM out there. Beyond smooth, and Pure Motive(ROM dev) is promising an average of 50+ hours of battery life for his upcoming RLS5!

Device : Verizon Galaxy s3
Current ROM: CLeanRom 3.1
Stable: Yes
Previous ROM: Liquid Smooth, CM10 official nightlies
Why these ROM's ??
I have been on the look out for a ROM that merges the functionality of Touchwiz but removes the bloat. I have tried a couple of ROMs based on the stock android experience but there were a couple of features like in phone - swipe to right to call, swipe to left to message missing (but present in touchwiz) that I absolutely loved. Just to clarify, I really did not find any problems with the other ROM's like CM10 or LiquidSmooth. It's just my preference for the Touchwiz features that made me use CleanROM.

Thank you everyone! This is even helping me. I've tried a lot of ROMs but it's great knowing everyones opinion.
Just an update, for future posts please tell how long you've been on the current rom. Thanks!

AOKP JB OR CyanogenMod 10

AOKP JB OR CyanogenMod 10
WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER!!!
I use CM9 constantly for stability till CM10 is more stable though AOKP 4.0.4 I used that for more than a month and really liked the features so most of the time for stability I pick CM and for more (on board/stock) features I pick AOKP. Playing around with AOKP 4.1.1 it was unstable at the time but it should have gotten better but all the features that I missed and were missing from CM10 were there though CM10's build was a little more stable than AOKP 4.1.1.
Since they're both not 100% RC/stable beta then it all comes down to who gets better stability support first so you have to test them yourself and most of the great devs on our forums are keeping us up to date from the actual source. Remember more people work on CM than AOKP but like what AOKP stands for its a "Kang" of the features you like. Personally if AOKP has the stability as CM has then I would stick to AOKP.
You would just have to test it yourself or else it will be another this vs this thread and it will go on non stop. I flash a lot of things on my phone to keep testing which one I like CM9 -> CM10 -> AOKP 4.1.1 -> CM10 -> CM9
I think CM10 right now is smooth and nice, AOKP 4.1.1 is getting there but I always go back to CM9 when I need important calls or I am driving and using GPS because you don't want a random reboot to happen.
Overall I would just do a nandroid backup and flash away, if anything messes up then revert back. :good:

Video ROM Reviews

Here is a list of my ROM reviews and some installs for the VZW SGS3, I'm not sure if this is the proper thread so if it isn't I apologize to XDA and will start elsewhere if needed. Please give them a like/dislike and subscribe! Thanks!
ATTENTION! When flashing ROMs you always have the risk of losing your IMEI. Go to this thread and use one of the methods to backup your IMEI/EFS in case you lose it. This happens more with AOSP ROMs but can happen with TW as well. I am not responsible for you bricking your phone or losing your IMEI. Ive been debating which ROM to try and watching your videos is helping a lot. Been looking for something that allows the use of the touchwiz camera and ability to store pictures/videos to the external sd card, but also with an AOSP look and customization of the toggles like say, CM10. Add to that daily driver stability, and from your videos it looks like the Beans builds may be what im looking for.
Thanks!
Thanks for this, helped me a lot to decide which ROM I wanted to use. I chose beans.
wow these reviews are very appreciated man
i havent had time to go through all your vids yet, but have you ran across a rom where it has the 4.2 note 2 camera (with slow motion feature, photoshere)?
im looking for that perfect rom, but got a feeling it wont exist:
-note 2 camera
-aosp camera/song search shortcut on pattern lockscreen
-blacked/inverted everything theme

You could just grab a Rom and add that stuff like the note 2 camera, theme stuff inverted stuff, not sure about the aosp camera but if it's out there you can grab it.,I have both the note 2 camera and 4.2 camera, the note 2 slow motion is pretty kool, that's the best thing I like about android......choice.....

Looks like it, I just watched your video on it! Thank you! Im getting ready to try this one out and I will be travelling soon after so Im looking for something thats completely stable, but with the features/options I pointed out in my earlier post. Beans 10 definitely looks to have it all so far, from what ive seen in your video.
Just to make sure on a couple things, are these features fully functioning with no bugs?
-Camera/video. I will be using this a lot. Able to save to external sd with the TW camera and 4.2 camera, or just TW?
-Email
-Messaging sms/mms
-Browser
-GPS
-Phone (probably the most important for me here.)
Thank you again for your help and putting your time into these videos! Any plans on doing other videos, like say IMEI backup?

Camera/video is working fine. 4.2 saves to Internal though. You can use Root Explorer to move the files to ext card if needed. Email, SMS, MMS, Browser and phone works for sure. Have not tried GPS yet but maps locks on right away.
Thanks for watching the videos!

Seems I read something about 64 GB cards not being recognized by recoveries. Has something to do with the way they are formatted. Look up the threads for each recovery and I bet there's a fix. I use a 32 GB so I've never had issues.

Also interested in this, had pacman but would loop crash system ui with some settings conflicting I guess. And then I couldn't find the "sweet spot". Tried liquid but had notification problems, some apps wouldn't appear in the status bar.
So for now back to CleanRom till I get time to test more.

I will have to try this, I am running Jellybeans 12 atm because I acutally like Touchwiz themed to look like AOSP, never really liked using the launchers like Nova etc (not sure why). I may try it out just to see what 4.2 has etc.
if it's the AOSP look you thrive for but ejjoy the TouchWiz ROM bean is perfect for that. however, if you decide you want to give another TW ROM a try, I personally run my own rom with my own theme, but I ported bean's theme to Team Synergy's ROM, and also CleanROM.
but for a 4.2.2 ROM my personal favorite is Liquid-RC1, Very stable for me good battery life, and has the most features from what I've ran.
If you would like to run a nice 4.1.2 AOSP ROM I highly suggest, either AOKP nov27 build. or ParanoidAndroid 2.5.6
Paranoid Android also has kick ass 4.2 ROM out, along with PAC ROM it's called, it combines the goodies from CM, Paranoid Android, and AOKP ROMS and put's it all into one. Great ROM, but since there's so many features, many are overlapping eachother, or simply are not enabled yet. BUT I still think it's a great ROM!

Wait for 4.3 ROMs to come out. I'm peronally using slim 4.3 alpha and quite satisfied with it's performance.
I've tested so much 4.2.2 ROMs for a while but as a result, I also returned to the latest factory image. Now I'm happy with stock 4.1.2 + marmite kernel. That's the first time I could use an uptime session for more than 3 or 4 days. To not support 4.2.* on Nexus S was a smart decision of Google—sorry for the truth, the fewest of us will accept this.
I've also tested this "direct inject" tweaks, but to be serious again: did you really felt the turbo? In my opinion it's a real placebo on our Nexus S.
Maybe I will try 4.3 in the future but I don't really trust the hype today.
4.1.2 + a new kernel, to get more RAM and a lot of great features (like voodoo sound, BLN,...), that's really enough for me. We all forget that new features will also be released in "older" Android versions. A 4.1 from 2012 isn't comparable with a 4.1 from today (e.g. updated Gapps, or features like the new Android Device Manager).

I have tried a ROM, or two, and I agree that 4.1 ROMs run smoother than 4.2.. the battery and performance are nearly the same.. But Slim ROM 4.1.2 is the best balance of features, battery and performance; combined with the newest kernels..

Using 4.3 slim bean alpha as well. work much much smoother than 4.2.2. The only issue I have is that when I try to open "developers options" in the setting menu, it causes the app to crash. Besides that I am very happy with it.
Where could I grab the stock 4.1.2 rooted ROM?

Chose stable custom rom for my sis

Hello people
My sister is considering flashind custom rom on her SGS Advance. And because I'm not familiar with Samsung devices (I have two Sony :>)
I would like to ask you to help me chose the most stable and fully functional custom ROM.
At the moment she has stock JB installed but it has some freezes and doesn't run very well.
What can you recommend? It doesn't have to be the nevest android.
I think I would chose between SkimKat 4.4, CyanogenMod 11 by Team Canjica and VanirAOSP 4.4.4. I know those are very good custom roms.
Can you tell me if there are any issues with those? like reboots, not working features?
If you say custom ROMs, there is no ROM which is bug free but there are stable ROMs.
Stability depends on how and what you use. All 4.4 ROMs have reached to a state where you can use them for daily use.
I am Using CM11 nightly 20140614 and dont have any problems.
All the ROMs have their dev and Q/A threads, you can check them for the most stable builds and the working/non working functionality.
Try the latest vanir aosp its fast, fluid and stable...
For me its the most stable rom yet
Well SlimKat seems to be bugless.
VanirAOSP has some bugs with SystemUI
Go for the slimkat(final). It's the smoothest, fastest rom for our phone.

CM 10.1
Wysłane z WOO-Phablecika 4.2.2...
Vanir is the best!
AOKP 4.2.2 by PV after uninstalling and reinstalling calendar is stable.
Wysłane z AOKP-fonika 4.2.2...
I'd have to go with Vanir. Everything just works and lag is virtually non-existent. The only downside I can see is slightly shorter battery life (could be just my phone though). One advantage that i love is it has it's own updater so it's not much of a hassle to get the latest fixes and improvements!
Another option for her would be to stay with stock JB bit change her kernel to CoCore.

More performance = more battery drain.
@lozohcum : How old is she? She want a girl theme too?
After testing almost every ROM, i think that CM10.1 is the most stable(with good battery backup)...
Liquid smooth 3.2 smooth as liquid with all customizations
just battery backup is 15 to 17 hr is matter

Yeah, you should try this. Cm 10.1 is awesome!
I think u can choose between VanirAOSP or AOSP from j.team.. The last one is disscontinued but its 90% finished and 100% stable.
U can choose one of them, or, simpli, test both because testing is the only (exactly) way to know if ROM is for you (or sister).
See all!
