Phone restarts when bumped - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello, starting in the past few week my Samsung galaxy s II skyrocket has been restarting itself when slightly bumped or set anything or than very lightly. Somebody suggested a different battery but I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks!

Sounds like an almost stuck power button, messed up battery contacts or loose wires.

This was happening to me, though the bump would have to be a little harder.

My Skyrocket did this too. Mine is a refurb that I got on the last AT&T $9.99 Refrub deal. Figured it was sent in for this reason. At first I thought was a random shutdown issue, but then I realized it wasn't, when I set it down one time on a hard surface. It didn't take much sometimes.
I found putting a piece of cardstock, maybe two pieces if it will fit, cut down to the same heighth x width of the battery, placed between the bottom of the battery, and the compartment helped out a lot. It still does it once in a while, takes quite a bit more now to replicate it, but nearly not as much as before.
I should have taken it back as soon as I noticed it, but I found my fix to be good enough for a $9.99 Skyrocket.
Hope this helps.

The tape below the battery

You guys removed it too, right? I think I get a better signal with it off. Probably placebo though.

It was already missing on my refurbished phone I have been using since June, never had signal issues myself

Couldn't hurt to try it. I will try it tomorrow, when I'm at spots were I know I consistently get the same signals.

I was thinking of removing it too.

I removed mine months ago. It is difficult to tell, but I think removing it hurt my signal slightly. A bigger issue for me is which hand I hold the phone in. There is a two bar difference sometimes,
for real??gonna try it tonight.
What exactly is it?
The tapes there probaly to protect the atenna, but i guess it might improve a bit.

I believe it is there to prevent static electricity from your hand effecting the antenna, but I have been wrong before.
There was a thread about this the week the phone came out.

Quality control - my 4th SGS3!

Anybody else out there having amazingly bad luck with your GS3? I just got a 3rd refurb and it came with the power button loose, and fell off in under 3 hours when I tried to use it. They are sending me a new unit instead of a refurb this time - priority overnight. This is the 2nd one I've had with a power button that came off! #2 just rebooted randomly more-and-more every day until I gave up figuring it out after a factory reset and "Safe Mode" start - it would still reboot just sitting there. *SMH* :silly:

Jumped up and down, calmly getting elevated from first-line tech until I got the "customer advocate". She agreed that if I had gotten two defective "recertified" phones, I deserved to have a real (new) one. I had to agree to a two year contract, which in my case only adds 9 weeks to my commitment and they agreed not to change my TOS. Basically they did an end run around themselves, because it will look like I upgraded my phone again, allowing them to ship a new unit. *SMH*
Already 4? That's sucks man. I'm on my 15th RAZR maxx...

Do you suppose these type of returns are what prompts Verizon to keep the bootloader locked down? If I were Verizon I'd sure want to.
If you want to see bad Quality control you guys should see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDxJoGv3FLA
That took forever to get replaced even with issues every day like that.
I have had a perfect one since release day

Sorry if I hijacked thread with my question...

mine has this weird line going down the left side of the screen
its only noticeable if you have a light source shinning on it and holding the device at an angle, doesn't effect viewing quality at all
slightly annoys me but im not about to return it and get a scratched up refurb phone in return

Is my idea any good?

An extra internal 50mah battery to make removable batteries hot swappable without a reboot. Or do only small numbers of people even have a second battery?

Like the idea but there have been occasions where I had to pull my battery. As for me I use one battery.

You have to replace the battery about once every 2 years. That shouldn't be a burden. You should be rebooting the phone more often than that.

The point of having a second battery is like if your first one is almost dead and you don't have charger you can use the spare. Its a good idea.

That's a very good idea.
That means you don't have to turn off the phone to change a battery.
I don't have a secondary battery for now but, I'm thinking of getting one.
Well thanks for the replies. For some reason in my head I imagine swapping a battery like changing a mag in a gun. Pop a clip, slide it out and another in. Maybe a manufacturer will get around to it some day XD

This would be a good idea, but another user made a point about battery pulls, the phone would stay on as you attempt to force shut it down.
Also, boot times are getting faster and faster, and waiting for the phone to boot is not that bad anymore.

I don't think this is a good idea... One battery should last at least 2 days, to me the hot swapping thing is not practical.

I have watched some youtube videos of how to change the screen, doesn't look too hard, actually.
I have not replaced a screen on my S3, but I have stripped it down to all the individual parts. Was pretty easy with the walk through found on Ifixit. Just a suggestion.

I changed the lens on mine, and really wish I'd have left it broken. In sunlight the lcd looks terrible now. It also has flaky touch sensitivity issues.

thank for the link, I will read up on it, I was also reading a post of someone turning it into insurance saying that they "lost" their phone, and got a new one and still got to keep the old one. sounds shady to me but also like a great idea. I mean, would you really turn in the brief case full of money?

When I saw that I asked him right away if he dropped it or if his pockets were tight. He responded no to both. I've never seen him drop it, in fact the phone is still flawless. Nevertheless, the ended up shipping out a new phone. AT&T has really good CS. I'll let you know when the phone gets here. Oh yea, almost forgot, his screen is turning yellow now too.

Yea after seeing the updated photo there's no doubt that was caused by pressure. Sat on old phone before by accident and the screen did the EXACT same thing.
I wouldn't say this is a screen issue, just a damaged phone by accident :*(
Hopefully cs doesnt consider that physical damage and charge full retail price after they get it..
