Flashing New Radio - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I've heard a lot recently about flashing a new radio to help get better reception and it sounds great and all, but if that can be done so easily why haven't all carriers just started with the best there was to offer? Does it adversely affect battery life? If I were to change my radio what would I want to change it to?

Well if you were to flash a new radio, it would be the new jellybean radio leaked from the new vzw jellywiz.
You can find all the radios on one of the stickies under Android development and you'd just install the newest one. but unless you're having signal problems, i wouldn't bother. I do have it installed though.

Has it made a noticeable difference?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

For me the only way I have noticed a difference is when I am running the leak. I don't know why but that's the only time I have better reception.

How stable is the leak right now? Since its a major upgrade is there anything special I need to do to flash it?

official MR4 vs leaked MR4

Hello! i was wondering which radio you guys would recommend? to my understanding there is both a leaked MR4 build out there as well as an official MR4, i've read mixed reviews about the leaked version so not sure which i should go with =/ thanks for your input!
Official was best for me.

Leaked has fixed a lot of issues for me.

I did not know there was an official MR4 leak. So the official is sense 3 from Verizon then?

I've only seen one mr4 from open mobile. Can you link me to the other you speak of?
thanks for the input ended up reverting back to official mr4 for the time being, also @dirtyfingers here is a link to all currently available radios, Turd Furguson did a great job of putting them all together http://www.nerd-haven.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1

i believe the only difference is the date of the radio leak. they will all work but the only way to see what one works best for you is to try them out. i am also running sky ics 4.2f and using the UCLF5 radio, noticing a minor boost in data reception. and ive tried every radio available

Yes, however the only way to get this update from Verizon has been if you purchased or received a GSIII with an updated sticker on the box. It hasn't been pushed as an OTA yet though.

I got a S3 today and it has G1 on it. I would be listed under received for free, becuase the ICS OTA update killed flash player on my razr.
I wish I knew G1 Vs old build, but so far every thing has been good. ( That GPS is very fast and it hold's on to 4G well + wifi works very well. I have never seen a phone get that kind of speed from wifi.)

I wouldn't bother. F2 is better. Has full search functionality and other than that there is no noticeable difference. I actually got an "updated" one and rolled back to F2.

When you say VRLF2, VRLG1, etc... are you referring to the baseband? VRLF2 is my baseband version but reading these posts, it sounds like you are talking about the version of ROM.
In the Synergy thread, it says "ICS 4.0.4 - Latest I535VRALG1 Base". I have Synergy installed but my baseband is VRLF2. Are these two different things?
Thanks

Yes they are different and you can flash the updated g1 baseband (radio/modem) using Odin even if you are locked and unrooted because it is Samsung official.

Best JB rom & T-Mobile radio combo

Hey guys, just wondering what is the best combination of JB Roms and T-Mobile radios? What works and what doesn't? Would love to flash the skyrocket to JB but would like it to work flawlessly with T-Mobile. Is the Blaze modem still the best to use?
Would like to hear what you guys are running.
Thanks.

Never use the term best in this forum u will get flamed for it just a friendly warning
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
OK.
Well I'm not sure how to ask then. I just wanted to know what some combinations people are running and if they notice any issues.
Not trying to say one ROM is better then the other. My bad.
Can I run the Blaze modem over a JB ROM? Particularly one slim jb?

Different modems offer different performance for some people but everyone's device it slightly different so as prdog1 said it's a matter of trying them out and finding out what works best (Make sure to make a backup before flashing and trying out any new modems). You can find a list of modems for the Verizon Galaxy S3 here.
What kind of performance are you talking about?

Mostly in regards to signal strength and throughput on data connections.
Also newer modems are better at switching between 3g and 4g. I use the newest and have no issue (HE)

Does it matter that the latest ota changes the case band version to vrblk3 and the post you listed lists vrlk3 as the latest modem or is that just an abbreviation for vrblk3 please forgive me if it seems it's a silly question as I am new and not sure
