Flashing JB Camera app - Motorola Atrix 2

I am on Stock ICS but my camera app is very slow and autofocus is also not working properly. Also, the gallery app is very slow and really takes time to zoom the pictures (Picture viewing app like QuickPic works really fast).
I just want to know that if I flash JB(4.2) Camera app, will it work better. I want to know that whether it will replace the default Camera app or will work as a separate application ? If it doesn't work properly how can I remove it?
Link for JB 4.2 Camera and Gallery app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it will work fine, youve to be rooted though.
It will work like a separate application and you can remove the app by removing the apk files and lib files /system/app and system/lib resp. We'll get into details if you don't feel like having it, first see if u like it.
Edit: BTW, the photosphere mode won't work for our phone since our phone doesn't have a gyroscope.
If auto focus and stock gallery are a problem, there's always the RazrM camera app in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32286710
It has multi shot and shutter tone toggle which the 4.2 is currently missing. Also you can link the gallery from the camera as quickpic and autofocus is as good as any moto camera app.

When you click on the gallery icon on top right of the camera screen.. it'll ask you to select a default application to open photos.

Can you tell me any widget to directly toggle between 2G to 3G? Its built in CM and some samsung phones. I didn't wanted to start a separate thread so asked the question here.

Theres no widget to directly toggle 2g/3g, the max you can do is get to the Mobile Network Settings page and select the desired network
i use 2G-3G On Off widget by curvefish from play store.. gets the work done..
are you able to select 2g or 3g network from Settings/Mobile Networks/Select Network ? if not then heres a mod to change that

If i had to guess yes you can.
Since Snap gives you the option to be set as default.
MOD EDIT: removed instructions
Might wanna wait till someone with more expertise confirms or directs you to correction.
Would you still be able to update SnapPhoto from the Market if you did this?
thanx for the adb code
im going to try it out right now
ok it works find i just made a mistake.
Thanks mikey1022!!

Yeah just like normal
Found a problem.
i made SnapPhoto to the default camera, but when im going to attach to a message and i choose camera and i get unexpected error
any solution?
I remember reading somewhere on the forum if you delete the camera.apk, you wouldn't be able to change your wallpaper & you might lose your pictures app. Are you still able to change the wallpaper & browse your pics?
Sounds like you need to place Camera.apk back in
the Camera app is built in and can not be removed without consequence.
It controls more than just the camera
is there a reason you want to replace it? you can have both at the same time.
I would have to guess....space
Ill go back so dum of me but i didnt back up the apk. so should I just reflash my current blue star 5 theme?
ALWAYS BACKUP EVERYTHING...fyi
If you need I will upload both the apk and odex
why delete the original camera software? just set SnapPhoto as the default camera and it will open when you press the shutter button.
Menu > Settings > Set as default camera
works fine
neoobs, hey my pictures app went away so if you could upload that for me would that include the pictures app with the camera app or could you upload those both please!!!!!
We know that.....why? unless he tells use, we can guess.
It happend, its over, hopefully he learned something out of this
BACKUP.
Plus that/this is also how he/myself learn also.
Taking the easy road at times isn't always fun. Take what this forum is all about. Taking things to their limits one way or another.

[Request] Mod for Gmail app and Camera app

Hey, I was wondering if it was possible to mod the gmail app so that it allows you to download attachments directly from the app rather than just previews. Also for the Camera app when viewing pictures you have taken, is it possible to mod it so u can change the picture by swiping like in the gallery instead of using the stupid forward and backward arrows? Any devs wanna give it a shot?
The camera thing might be possible... the gmail thing... well, the gmail app is closed source & proprietary....
pretty sure froyo has direct download from gmail
anyone wanna take a crack at modding the camera to do this?

ok heres how it is: apk files emailed show "install"
picture show "download" and 'preview"
unknown doesnt allow anything i dont believe. The attachments are context based on whether you can download. Do you have specific file types you want me to check?

Stock camera app photo viewing app

Is there a way to change the default app (Gallery) that is used to view photos from within the stock camera app?
I've had to disable the stock gallery app, because it was causing issues with other apps, and have installed Google Photos. But when I try to view a photo after taking it the camera app says 'Unable to find application to perform this action'.
I can't find any option in the camera app settings.
Thanks.
there's alot of gallery apps on playstore, i suggest to use Simple Gallery app. cuz its clean, simple and ad-free.

Installed but still can't open/view photos from the camera app. I'm thinking that it's something that might be hard coded.

If against rules please let me know to remove.
Updates:
I tried Oneplus 8 Camera/Lib by replacing the ones in system/priv app using FXexplorer and rebooted. Only Video, Panorama, and Pro Mode works by long pressing icon on homescreen. Filters is only noticeable new feature in video and camera mode.
Gallery 3.10.5 Does Work with no issues I have found as of yet!
Testing some. Camera apk will make your camera broken.
Phone and contacts can't be installed.
Looks like only gallery works.

Long press the camera and open the pro mode or Video mode. They are the only mode that works for me, anything than that will crash.
It'd be glad if someone who tests all apps could give a feedback which apps improved.
Anyone have any luck getting new launcher with Google feed working?

Yes, but look like that make no difference, you need com.oneplus.camera.pictureprocessing installed and give the camera permission. I did pull files from the firmware by myself I have also installed others but that's the file that make difference.

Yeah my mistake, I thought the new camera had installed but it was the original form the latest stable. I installed new one and like you said can only access the few modes mentioned by you by long press. Since the Oneplus 8 has that hole punch camera it might be interfering with our pop up camera causing errors! Someone may be able to figure it out!! Nothing new too noteworthy anyway!!

Don't know how to put this. Default gallery app?

When we click photos using our camera and click the pick icon it opens Google Photos. Is there any way to change it? To open that pic in other gallery?
You can try to go into the "app info" screen for the Photo's app and doing a "Clear Default".
But I'm thinking that Google might have hard coded the link to their own photo's app from within the camera app, so if the above setting doesn't fix it, then I don't think anything can.

Yeah the ''clear default' is greyed out. So maybe yes its hard coded :/
The camera preview doesn't actually take you to another app.
It might leverage code from another app or it might just look like it does.
You probably can't change it without changing the camera app itself.
I think this has been the case for all Android phones I've had.

I think when I did that on my last phone it just didn't do camera previews but the gallery app I had still worked.
