[Request] Mod for Gmail app and Camera app - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Hey, I was wondering if it was possible to mod the gmail app so that it allows you to download attachments directly from the app rather than just previews. Also for the Camera app when viewing pictures you have taken, is it possible to mod it so u can change the picture by swiping like in the gallery instead of using the stupid forward and backward arrows? Any devs wanna give it a shot?

The camera thing might be possible... the gmail thing... well, the gmail app is closed source & proprietary....

pretty sure froyo has direct download from gmail

anyone wanna take a crack at modding the camera to do this?

haha i just checked the camera app and it does open the gallery so you can indeed swipe to go through your pictures. You should just wait for froyo

ok heres how it is: apk files emailed show "install"
picture show "download" and 'preview"
unknown doesnt allow anything i dont believe. The attachments are context based on whether you can download. Do you have specific file types you want me to check?

What i was thinking if we could remove the camera app and replace it with Snapphoto to make it the default camera?
Please tell me if this is possible and if the button for the camera on the side of the phone if we can make it be used to activate the SnapPhoto App?
Thanks

If i had to guess yes you can.
Since Snap gives you the option to be set as default.
MOD EDIT: removed instructions
Might wanna wait till someone with more expertise confirms or directs you to correction.
Would you still be able to update SnapPhoto from the Market if you did this?
thanx for the adb code

Yeah just like normal
Found a problem.
i made SnapPhoto to the default camera, but when im going to attach to a message and i choose camera and i get unexpected error
any solution?
I remember reading somewhere on the forum if you delete the camera.apk, you wouldn't be able to change your wallpaper & you might lose your pictures app. Are you still able to change the wallpaper & browse your pics?
Sounds like you need to place Camera.apk back in
the Camera app is built in and can not be removed without consequence.
It controls more than just the camera
is there a reason you want to replace it? you can have both at the same time.
I would have to guess....space
Ill go back so dum of me but i didnt back up the apk. so should I just reflash my current blue star 5 theme?
ALWAYS BACKUP EVERYTHING...fyi
If you need I will upload both the apk and odex
why delete the original camera software? just set SnapPhoto as the default camera and it will open when you press the shutter button.
Menu > Settings > Set as default camera
works fine
neoobs, hey my pictures app went away so if you could upload that for me would that include the pictures app with the camera app or could you upload those both please!!!!!
We know that.....why? unless he tells use, we can guess.
It happend, its over, hopefully he learned something out of this
BACKUP.
Plus that/this is also how he/myself learn also.
Taking the easy road at times isn't always fun. Take what this forum is all about. Taking things to their limits one way or another.

[MOD REQUEST] SecMMS.apk

Alright well sprints latest OTA has the SecMMS.apk that does not show single pictures as slideshows, but instead shows them normally. Well i tried pulling the apk and using it on the verizon s3 but it didn't work I put in system/app and alas nothing worked. So im requesting that somebody edit it/mod it/whatever needs to be done, to make it work on our S3's
I attached the zip file that has the SecMMS.apk in it as well as the odex file, i would like it to work on deodexed stock roms
and here's the framework-res.apk https://www.dropbox.com/s/t6et6bqelqj0ed8/framework-res.apk
Thanks in advance!
Bump, anything anybody?
For me it only shows as a slideshow if text is included. Otherwise it just pulls up as a normal pic. Are you sure the sprint mms app behaves differently?

I would assume you have to be rooted since it will most likely have to be pushed to your system apps, i tried pushing it there but it wouldn't work.
As far as the one click root, if you aren't flashing any kind of system img then you should keep your data, but i always assume that ill be losing my data when rooting.

Interestingly I can only save pics that are part of the slideshow presentation by pausing then hitting menu > save attachment. On the regular image view the only option is Set picture as. However, from the message list view I can long press both types (those with text and without) and the option to save attachment is there.

You will also need at least framework-res.apk from the most recent Sprint stock image in order to properly decompile this apk.

Flashing JB Camera app

I am on Stock ICS but my camera app is very slow and autofocus is also not working properly. Also, the gallery app is very slow and really takes time to zoom the pictures (Picture viewing app like QuickPic works really fast).
I just want to know that if I flash JB(4.2) Camera app, will it work better. I want to know that whether it will replace the default Camera app or will work as a separate application ? If it doesn't work properly how can I remove it?
Link for JB 4.2 Camera and Gallery app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it will work fine, youve to be rooted though.
It will work like a separate application and you can remove the app by removing the apk files and lib files /system/app and system/lib resp. We'll get into details if you don't feel like having it, first see if u like it.
Edit: BTW, the photosphere mode won't work for our phone since our phone doesn't have a gyroscope.
If auto focus and stock gallery are a problem, there's always the RazrM camera app in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32286710
It has multi shot and shutter tone toggle which the 4.2 is currently missing. Also you can link the gallery from the camera as quickpic and autofocus is as good as any moto camera app.

Theres no widget to directly toggle 2g/3g, the max you can do is get to the Mobile Network Settings page and select the desired network
i use 2G-3G On Off widget by curvefish from play store.. gets the work done..
are you able to select 2g or 3g network from Settings/Mobile Networks/Select Network ? if not then heres a mod to change that

Default Gallery App Change

Hi
Seems like Google Photo's is hard coded to be the default picture viewer.
If you install something else you are not prompted to choose the new default as you would expect.
Disabling google photo's and trying to force new default doesn't work either.
Perhaps with future ROM?
Anything anyone achieved without root etc. till now? Thanks.
Reorienting back and recent keys seems like a no go either, what do people do to get round that?
Thanks for any tips already.

Tryna different camera. Counterintuitive? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But you will get the option that you want.
But this has ALWAYS been the case with HTC. I have installed the HTC camera app on other phones, and it was imperative to have the HTC Gallery app to be able to review the photos after they are taken. I know that it's a different gallery app that we are taking about, but I think have the Camera App is the real issue here. The app defines the default photos app.
I may be wrong, but that's something that I discovered a while back.

You could use a custom rom like leedroid, there you can define your favorite app for pictures and it will launch from the camera.
And you can use custom roms without root.

install htc album from apk mirror, then disable the google photos app. It should default to htc album then.
It should but it doesn't, and I don't know why... When I disable google photos and install htc gallery nothing hapens when I try to open photos from camera.
Any fix for this yet?
Would love to see a fix too!
I got around all the little issues with Photos by disabling that app.
Then got "QuickPic" from Google Play and made it Gallery app in it's settings.
Aggravation instantly gone. Works fine without giving an argument about everything.

on our rom you can pick any gallery app as preview album in the camera app.
I've tried many apps as I've never really used Google photos before and had no luck with any. But I've started to like it now. Especially since they added opening straight to albums in the settings.

Don't know how to put this. Default gallery app?

When we click photos using our camera and click the pick icon it opens Google Photos. Is there any way to change it? To open that pic in other gallery?
You can try to go into the "app info" screen for the Photo's app and doing a "Clear Default".
But I'm thinking that Google might have hard coded the link to their own photo's app from within the camera app, so if the above setting doesn't fix it, then I don't think anything can.

Yeah the ''clear default' is greyed out. So maybe yes its hard coded :/
The camera preview doesn't actually take you to another app.
It might leverage code from another app or it might just look like it does.
You probably can't change it without changing the camera app itself.
I think this has been the case for all Android phones I've had.
