Is there a way to change the default app (Gallery) that is used to view photos from within the stock camera app?
I've had to disable the stock gallery app, because it was causing issues with other apps, and have installed Google Photos. But when I try to view a photo after taking it the camera app says 'Unable to find application to perform this action'.
I can't find any option in the camera app settings.
Thanks.
there's alot of gallery apps on playstore, i suggest to use Simple Gallery app. cuz its clean, simple and ad-free.

Installed but still can't open/view photos from the camera app. I'm thinking that it's something that might be hard coded.

I am on Stock ICS but my camera app is very slow and autofocus is also not working properly. Also, the gallery app is very slow and really takes time to zoom the pictures (Picture viewing app like QuickPic works really fast).
I just want to know that if I flash JB(4.2) Camera app, will it work better. I want to know that whether it will replace the default Camera app or will work as a separate application ? If it doesn't work properly how can I remove it?
Link for JB 4.2 Camera and Gallery app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it will work fine, youve to be rooted though.
It will work like a separate application and you can remove the app by removing the apk files and lib files /system/app and system/lib resp. We'll get into details if you don't feel like having it, first see if u like it.
Edit: BTW, the photosphere mode won't work for our phone since our phone doesn't have a gyroscope.
If auto focus and stock gallery are a problem, there's always the RazrM camera app in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32286710
It has multi shot and shutter tone toggle which the 4.2 is currently missing. Also you can link the gallery from the camera as quickpic and autofocus is as good as any moto camera app.

When you click on the gallery icon on top right of the camera screen.. it'll ask you to select a default application to open photos.

Can you tell me any widget to directly toggle between 2G to 3G? Its built in CM and some samsung phones. I didn't wanted to start a separate thread so asked the question here.

Theres no widget to directly toggle 2g/3g, the max you can do is get to the Mobile Network Settings page and select the desired network
i use 2G-3G On Off widget by curvefish from play store.. gets the work done..
are you able to select 2g or 3g network from Settings/Mobile Networks/Select Network ? if not then heres a mod to change that

Since the new camera update I've had a bit of problem with the 2 photo's apps - Photos and Gallery.
When I take pics I'm deleting unwanted pics using Photos. But when I go into Gallery the deleted pics are still there. Is this normal?
What default app are you guys using for pics?
This is probably caused by a sync from Photos.
I use QuickPic app for a while.

Are they there in the actual files that you can delete? Or are they in instant upload (in gallery app)
This is why I would like to stick to just one gallery app, but I prefer photos. Unfortunately, I cant set contact photos with "Photos"
EDIT - Also, I would recommend getting used to the photos app, as I have, as Google is looking to make this the default gallery app IMO
These are pics I have taken with the camera. Sometimes I delete the photos straight from the camera app. Sometimes I go into Photos and delete from there. Only thing is that they remain in Gallery App.

Yeah, that makes sense. The Gallery App is whats on your SD, whereas photos is Cloud Based.
Thanks Justin.
I don't know what App is best.

I like Photos but I don't use it because I have Google+ disabled. So it's Gallery for me.

If you have the Photos app, opening the Photos section of the Google+ app will automatically bring you to the Photos app.
1) In the Photos app, go to the image you want to delete (or search “autobackup” in the search bar).
2) Select photos by pressing and holding the thumbnail to select; tap multiple thumbnails to select in bulk.
3) Tap the trash can icon at the top right to delete.
You’re all set; Auto Backup photos deleted!
:good:

I use photos because I think Google will soon try to update us to that rahter than gallery, plus I like the editing you can do on photos.
With that said, I still use gallery to delete photos from my SD like screenshots I dont need anymore, and to edit contact photos
Hi
Seems like Google Photo's is hard coded to be the default picture viewer.
If you install something else you are not prompted to choose the new default as you would expect.
Disabling google photo's and trying to force new default doesn't work either.
Perhaps with future ROM?
Anything anyone achieved without root etc. till now? Thanks.
Reorienting back and recent keys seems like a no go either, what do people do to get round that?
Thanks for any tips already.

For remapping the buttons the app from Flar2 works.

Tryna different camera. Counterintuitive? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But you will get the option that you want.
But this has ALWAYS been the case with HTC. I have installed the HTC camera app on other phones, and it was imperative to have the HTC Gallery app to be able to review the photos after they are taken. I know that it's a different gallery app that we are taking about, but I think have the Camera App is the real issue here. The app defines the default photos app.
I may be wrong, but that's something that I discovered a while back.

You could use a custom rom like leedroid, there you can define your favorite app for pictures and it will launch from the camera.
And you can use custom roms without root.

Sure I know about that, it was just a hint to the right direction.
There are some very good guides for it.
What if you sideload the old Gallery app?
If you want back the old HTC Apps try here

install htc album from apk mirror, then disable the google photos app. It should default to htc album then.
It should but it doesn't, and I don't know why... When I disable google photos and install htc gallery nothing hapens when I try to open photos from camera.
Any fix for this yet?
Would love to see a fix too!
I got around all the little issues with Photos by disabling that app.
Then got "QuickPic" from Google Play and made it Gallery app in it's settings.
Aggravation instantly gone. Works fine without giving an argument about everything.

on our rom you can pick any gallery app as preview album in the camera app.
I've tried many apps as I've never really used Google photos before and had no luck with any. But I've started to like it now. Especially since they added opening straight to albums in the settings.
I disabled "Photos" and installed another gallery app but when I take a picture with camera and try to quickly view it it just defaults back to the camera app. I have to go to my app tray, load my gallery program and get into the photo folder to see the picture. As you can imagine this isn't the greatest workflow
I see nothing in the system settings for a default app for gallery and I've never been asked to select one. If I re-enable Photos... it goes right to that from the camera app.
I must be missing something very simple or there must be something wrong??!?!
I'm pretty sure Photos is the OEM photo app for this phone, there is no separate gallery app. You an access device folders when in the Photos app.

I understand that photos is stock. On all other droid phones I've been able to install a different gallery app and have it take over as the system default. I'm looking for how to do that here.

Oh, gotcha. I guess I didn't understand that's what you were asking.
Still struggling with this....
I feel your pain I have been looking for a solution for this without success for a long time.
When we click photos using our camera and click the pick icon it opens Google Photos. Is there any way to change it? To open that pic in other gallery?
You can try to go into the "app info" screen for the Photo's app and doing a "Clear Default".
But I'm thinking that Google might have hard coded the link to their own photo's app from within the camera app, so if the above setting doesn't fix it, then I don't think anything can.

Yeah the ''clear default' is greyed out. So maybe yes its hard coded :/
The camera preview doesn't actually take you to another app.
It might leverage code from another app or it might just look like it does.
You probably can't change it without changing the camera app itself.
I think this has been the case for all Android phones I've had.

I think when I did that on my last phone it just didn't do camera previews but the gallery app I had still worked.
