In the market for an upgrade, currently have a HTC Desire running CM7 and it's great, no lag in everyday use, OC'd to 1.1ghz, the only thing is that the graphics aren't great due to the outdated Adreno 200 GPU. I get higher Quadrant figures than my gf's Galaxy S but my phone is a joke in the graphics test compared to the samsung.
So for me the real limitation is the GPU and I want the best available product this time
The phones I had in mind (and in order of preference) are:
Samsung Galaxy S II (Mali-400 MP) (480x800)
HTC Evo 3D (Adreno 220) (540x960)
LG Optimus 3D (SGX 540) (480x800)
Motorola Atrix 4G (ULP GeForce) (540x960)
Anandtech benchmark on OC'd adreno 220, sgx 540 & geforce
Anandtech benchmark on mali-400 mp
Based partly on the benchmarks and lots and lots of forum/thread searching, my guess is Mali-400 MP > SGX 540 > Adreno 220 > GeForce ULP, is that about right?
What do you guys think is the best and what should I go for?
Extra Q.. is the SGX 543 expected in any android devices yet? Google brings up nothing
nop... wrong
SGX 543 = Adreno 220 >> Mali -400 >> Geforce ULP [tegra 2] >> SGX 540 >> Adreno 205 >> SGX 535 >> Adreno 200 = SGX 530
m nt sure but as per my knowledge Adreno 220 is more powerful which is going to release in Evo 3d and Sensation...
I m planning to buy Htc sensation soon....
EDIT :- Correction of mali-400 position..... [and even i am not sure about adreno 220 ]
[even my xperia runs on adreno 200 ..... cravin for good gpu too]

Yep,that's about right.I have a Desire HD and am going to buy the Sensation when it hits the market.
One a couple of things though.First,he SGX 540 in the LG Optimus 2X is an overclocked version of the one in the Galaxy S.Second,by looking at these benchmarks it's unfair for the Geforce and the Adreno 220,because the Atrix and Evo 3D/Sensation have a resolution of 960x540 as opposed to 800x480 of the others,as is written in the OP.That is 35% more pixels which makes things harder for the GPU.
sorry for the question but what does gpu do?

Accelerates graphics and lets you play games smoothly (Graphics Processing Unit). Unless you're an avid mobile gamer, any of the newer ones are just fine.
But why would Samsung switch from the SGX540 used in the Galaxy S to the Mali-400 MP in Galaxy S2 if it wasn't better. I know comparing qHD screens to the WVGA screens is slightly unfair but I've heard the Galaxy S2's S-AMOLED+ display is one of the best on the market.
In addition, why would Samsung use the Exynos SoC as opposed to the Tegra2 if it weren't as good
the optimus 3d beats the optimus 2x in the benchmarks so i think it's fair to say sgx540 is better than tegra/geforce

That's exactly my point,Samsung didn't change to a worse GPU.The Optimus 3D uses an overclocked version of the SGX540.I think that,if they were running at the same frequencies, the Mali would outperform it,but we can't be sure.
Bottom line?If you want hardcore gaming,go for either Adreno 220 or Geforce ULP.The others are just fine.
Remember benchmarks arent everything, and samsung is uping to 1.2ghz each core. Anyways I like htc so ill stick to mytouches and htc so mytouch 4g slide for me

Hey, yeah I looked into this and the Optimus 3D uses SGX540 @ 300mhz with an updated driver compare to the SGS @ 200 mhz
Guess I'm just gonna have to wait until a few more benchmarks emerge of the Mali as anandtech's were using a prototype device.
Wow, They're fast. The 220 hitting 90fps when my Z only gets 25

See?Told 'ya!
Anyway,I tend to believe that the new generations strongest beast(They are all beasts after all)is the Adreno 220.Couple it with the fact that the GPU gets overclocked together with the CPU(Integrated),if you overclock it at a healthy frequency(1.8GHz anyone? Yeah,I'm THAT mad!)you will get dreamy performance.
Anyway, the Sensation's benchmarks are just from prototypes,so we have yet to see its true potential.
Sure thing is they are all very damn fast, and everything will be even faster when multi-core optimized apps hit the market.Until then we can only sit back and enjoy the show.I for one am torn between the Galaxy S 2 and the Sensation.Which one I'll get?Dunno yet.If it wasn't for the Super Amoled + screen I wouldn't even be thinking about it,but the screen on those things is damn beautiful. On the other hand, the Sensation has qHD screen...Why,oh why are they so expensive?I'd get both otherwise!

As a DesireHD owner myself, im on the same boat as you my friend. My only gripe with the sgs2 is the non qhd res screen and comparatively weak gpu, especially how their last gen sgs gpu was miles ahead of everyone else. There's also the option to get the tegra2 powered sgs2, but i think that one does not have samoled+ display, also im not sure if the tegra2 unit will be OC'd to 1.2. Im seriously considering now the evo 3d gsm, but not only does it have no built in memory but its coming out later and sgs 2 is already out.
Benchmark: Mali 400 (Samsung S II) > Adreno 220 (HTC Sensation)
"Smartbench 2011 is one of the few synthetic benchmark tests that are able to measure multicore performance, so these results are for both CPU cores at work. The Samsung Galaxy S II steadily beats the HTC Pyramid in both the productivity (3732 vs 1898 points), and GPU tests (2431 vs 1426 points)."
But it also notes:
"Bear in mind that the Galaxy S II that the test was run on, seems to be the final version, with the 1.2GHz Exynos chipset, and the HTC Pyramid was the internal name of the HTC Sensation when it was still a prototype, so we’ll wait for the retail version to pass judgement on the 1.2Ghz Snapdragon chipset inside."
Mali seems to be doing pretty damn good.
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedet...2&testgroup=overall&benchmark=glpro20&var=top
And what matters is real life performance. See any vid of the galaxy s 2 and its buttery smooth, even while playing hd flash in the browser.

The qHD display isn't really that much sharper than the Super Amoled Plus display, but it decreases performance.
And the Super Amoled also has: Better colors, totally black (also saves power), 1ms response (good when you watch movies), 180 degree, viewing angle, and responds better you your touches.
Did I mention that it was thin?
Also the Exynos Chip is stronger.
I belive that the CPU is customized by Intrisity, but I can't confirm that.
And the Mali-400MP will probably get better drivers. (not that it would lag anyway )
Galaxy S 2 is also thinner.
I think it's the best choice.
HTC Sensation is awesome, but Galaxy S 2 is the best phone on the market.
But on one final note: I recommend that you wait for the Nexus 3 that comes around Christmas.
It's rumored to have the Tegra 3 chip inside (quad-core).

But PenTile Display...
Since I know this the Sensation was also one candidate for me along with the S2.
But now the S2 will be my next phone after my desire, I guess.
Hi
Even I changed my mind from HTC sensation to SGS2 .... after watching such a low benchmark performance of HTC sensation see it here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RHziztN2gs
And after watching the superb clearity of SuperAMOLED display , against HTC's blurry screen ,,,,,... m in love with SGS2......
See it here... http://www.youtube.com/user/SlashGear?ob=5#p/u/0/p3axSZX1R_s
I dont know what that HTC people did with Adreno 220 n i have no clue why it's benchmarks are low......
So all time Sensation lover has now moved to SGS2 .... SGS2 rocks....
See the FPS in the second video , SGS2 is far better in 2D n 3D performance too..... HTC s**ckin big time.... big disappointment....
mali 400 < sgx 540 < ulp < adreno 220
mali is best but problem is some games are only compatible with tegra's ULP
any pc modder knows resolution is a huge tax on graphics. benchmarks dont mean much at different resolutions, not to mention frame rate caps. mali might have a slight edge on adreno in a fair test, but not enough to swing a decision i dont think. screen and build quality will be the biggest variance. imo htc wins build quality, and higher res screen is better for text/browsing. Samsung's lower res (and crazy good looking) screen will always lead to higher frame rates, so they win for games/ vids. Ill be getting the sensation the day its released (work for tmob, decision was kinda made for me)

EDIT: I decided to make a quick and/or simple detailed comparison, scoring based on points (The underline stands for a point) :
HTC Sensation:
Design/Build: Aluminum Unibody
Screen Technology: S-LCD, 4.3"
Screen Resolution: qHD (960 x 540)
Camera: 8MP w/Dual LED and stereo sound recording
Front Camera: VGA
RAM: 768MB
Chipset: 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Adreno 220 GPU, Qualcomm MSM 8260 Snapdragon
Storage: 1GB + Up to 32GB SD
HTC Sense 3.0
Samsung Galaxy S II:
Design/Build: Plastic
Screen Technology: Super AMOLED Plus, 4.3
Screen Resolution: WVGA (800 x 480)
Camera: 8MP w/Single LED and mono sound recording
Front Camera: 2MP
RAM: 1024MB
Chipset: Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, Mali-400MP GPU, Orion
Storage: 16/32GB + Up to 32GB SD
TouchWiz 4
I'd take a Sensation anyday. (My experience with my HTC Desire (Current), and my I5700 Galaxy Spica)
That's my opinion, discuss yours here
Isn't the Sensation also gonna be like, $200-$300 cheaper than the GS II?

Post this in Android General or Android Q&A Thread. You will get plenty of good answers there. This is a phone specific forum and you should not post here about any other phones.
Anyways, Nexus will be the best (I think). Stock android experience is what you will never forget about the nexus.
a short comparision bw Samsung galaxy s2(i9100 not i9100g) and galaxy nexus
CPU(both have dual core)
the s2 has Exynos(samsung's own cpu) 4210 @1.2 ghz (Semiconductor technology 45 nm)
the nexus has Texas Instruments(TI) OMAP4460 @ 1.2 ghz (Semiconductor technology 45 nm)
both run at 1.2 ghz but the nexus is undercloked to save battery , it can run at 1.5 ghz
alo omap 4 has better power management features to its architecture and ti open source
Exynos 4210 runs at 1.2ghz but it is overclocked to 1.4ghz in galaxy note
so OMAP4460 should be better( better for performance if you overclock , on stock they both run at 1.2ghz , so should perform similarly in most scenarios)
GPU (comparision of both s2 and nexus with current and q2-q3 2012 devices)
the s2 Has Mali 400 which is quad core and should be better
in the galaxy nexus we have PowerVR SGX540 @ 384 MHz (Single Core) the same gpu which was originally found in galaxy s (i9000 PowerVR SGX540 @ 200 MHz) but at really high clock to improve performance , it is very good cpu but is aging .. getting old in the era of ulp geforce(found in tegra 3 and tegra 2 which are cpu) and Adreno 225 and 320 [found in Krait i.e.. Snapdragon s4(28 nm)-which is better and more powerfull cpu that even tegra 3]
in the graphic performance mali 400 is better as it is quad core but SGX540 is also good , in many cases mali 400 performes better and in some cases SGX540 performes better , due to different architectures
Screen
s2 has HD Super AMOLED Plus and nexus has HD Super AMOLED
galaxy nexus smokes s2 with its hd screen 1280x720 but with Pentile matrix arrangement(trust me its not noticible)
s2 has normal wvga 800x480 resolution wihout Pentlie Matrix
nexus has 4.65 screen and i s bigger than s2's 4.3 to watch videos)
Both have good connectivity wifi, gps ,bluetooth 3.0 with hs,3g with high speeds
physical buttons
galaxy nexus has no physical buutons (i dont like this) and at present not all apps are configured to advantage of it and u can sometimes find it irritating
also in nexus you do not have an onscreen menu button , as apps will have itself menu onscreen touch button
for eg.while playing an old version game either the onscreen buttons of nexus will not hide and you will not be able to take full advantage of large screen, or the buttons will hide and not come back when you pause the game
note that many apps are updated and updating for use with galaxy nexus
s2 has home , menu and back buttons
RAM
both have 1gb ram(enough for good usage)
CAmera
definetly the 8mp camera for s2 is better, it somkes galaxy nexus's 5mp
in video recording , both do 1080p but i think so that s2 does 1080p and nexus does [email protected] , so s2 is better
nexus has 1.3mp front camera which can do 720p , s2 has 2mp front camera
Battery
totally a personal issue(both have 1,750 mAh)
sdcard
nexus does not have sd slot(pls confirm),s2 has sd slot
tv out
s2 has tv out and usb on the go , nexus has tv out(pls confirm)
Software
both have Ice cream sandwhich , and hopefully s2 will get android 5(jellybean), nexus should 100% get jellybean
also nexus will update faster with ics versions as it google flagship device
UI
very personal
i personally never like cold and dark holo ui of ics , cm9 found on galaxy nexus, i think it lacks brightness and vivid colors
on s2 you have touchwiz 4 with some modifications in ics , it is bright and beautifull and i like it

Upgrade
Both are great phones... Your choice really depends in yourself... Before buying a new one... Reflect within yourself if it suites you right... You don't want to buy something that you would regret in the future.. Its best to get the full enjoyment from what you spent...
If you would ask me... I choose an SII... I wish I could upgrade my phone to SII like you... Before it runs out of trend that is....
SL development is quite strong these days (All thanks to dhiru)... Will stick to this phone for a while I think...
ALWAYS NEXUS !! nexus ftw man ! m telion u ! it'll even support the next android os jellybean cus of the HUUUGE dev support and fastest to receive google updates
go for s2
If you want to buy your phone now I'd choose the SGSII. I would wait for the SGSIII and parts of the other next gen phones.

1. S2 has faster processor than nexus
2. S2 processor can be OC'd to 1.7ghz
3. S2 doesn't have HD Super Amoled plus instead it just has Super Amoled plus (480x800 is not HD)
4. S2 doesn't have a 1750mAh battery instead it has a 1650mAh battery.
Hope it clears some misinformation about the above statement
@OP:
Nexus: Better screen, surely updates comes faster from Google and the feel of pure AOSP (Of course S2 can have a similar feeling through cyanogenmod9)
S2: Better processing speed, camera, gpu, has external sd card etc.
Some people over the S2 forums have both phones and they prefer the S2 more. But it's really up to you mate. Read reviews about both phones and go for the one you like

Personally i'd go for the S2 because of it's superior gaming performance. The S2 is better then the Nexus for gaming as it has a superior graphics chip, paired with a lower resolution screen on the S2. The lower resolution screen makes a difference in performance, in a good way
Actually I love s2 becoz of its hardware but I like gnex becoz of its design n update

a short comparision bw Samsung galaxy s2(i9100 not i9100g) and galaxy nexus

Why not get the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 instead? It has a Super Amoled HD screen that's 800x1280, same camera as GS2, same processor as GS2, and it's the thinnest between the Nexus and the GS2. I love this phone and honestly wouldn't give it up for any phone right now.
Isn't the Exynos more powerful than the OMAP 4460?

Yes.

Right now Nexus simply wins because of the software..But things might change when the 3rd installment from the Galaxy S series arrives(a.k.a SGS3)..

I9100 is the best ¡¡
My apologies if this thread is in the wrong place. It seems like the best place, but please move to a more appropriate spot if it isn't.
I was wondering if people had opinions on these two new GPUs, given the current/upcoming retail options.
From what I have seen of benchmarks and articles on anandtech, I think it's very likely that the T604 will be generally superior by a good margin. However, the Adreno 320 is available on a 10", 800x1280 tablet (padfone 2), while the Mali T604 (assuming rumors are to be true, and it seems rather confirmed at this point) will soon be available on a 10", 1600x2560 tablet (nexus 10).
Given the quadrupling of the resolution on the nexus 10, which device do you think will perform more smoothly? Obviously a sharp resolution looks great, so that scores the nexus 10 big points, but when paging through the launcher, scrolling chrome, and playing games, which would you expect to maintain a smoother frame rate?
I'm mostly curious about the GPU, but if anyone has any opinions about a dual-core cortex A15 like the Exynos 5250 vs quad core Krait, I would enjoy hearing about those as well! This is all just nerd-dreaming anyway
Personally, I would probably go for a nexus 10 if I were to buy a tablet, but I think my 2012 dream tablet would have been Exynos 5/Mali T604 on a 1200x1920, 10" tablet - like the transformer pad infinity - or 1080x1920 on a 7" tablet.

Bump.
Anyone got any idea about how badly T604 smokes Adreno 320?
And about how badly Rogue will f*** T604?
What's the ETA on A15+Rogue chipsets?
AFAIK, ST-Ericsson is the only one left now that was supposed to be making them, now that OMAP is dead in the water...

Actually the Adreno 320 is on par with the Mali T604. The Adreno 320 is clocked at 400Mhz compared to 533Mhz on the T604. So if you clocked the Adreno 320 at 533Mhz is should be similar in performance or maybe better.
I don't think Rogue will demolish T604, yes iPad 4 does beat it but be in mind that the A6X actually is really 4 GPU's not like Mali T604 which is actually 4 'Cores' theres a difference (Mind my AMD GPU has 750 cores, what does that mean?) and the Mali T604 power consumption is way less than the A6X and you probably see it in future smartphones. The Rogue should be a competition for the Mali T658.
Hello All,
I'm looking at either the BLU Vivo IV 5.5mm, or the BLU Vivo Air LTE 5.1mm,
I just love the super thin design of them both.. but, I'm kind of a newb to cell tech!?
What I'm not sure about are the Chipset/CPU & GPU, I've read quite a bit about them both & I'm still not quite sure what is better!? lol
Q: Which phone is better/faster?
Specs:
BLU Vivo IV. MAY 2014. NOW $250.
Size: 5.0 inches. BETTER!
Resolution: Super AMOLED, 1080 x 1920 pixels (441 ppi). BETTER!
Chipset: Mediatek MT6592. NOT SURE?
CPU: Octa-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A7. NOT SURE?
GPU: Mali-450MP4. NOT SURE?
Memory: 16 GB, 2 GB RAM. SAME.
Camera: 13MP/5MP. BETTER!
Battery: 2300 mAh. BETTER!
BLU Vivo Air LTE. SEP 2015. NOW $150.
Size: 4.8 inches. WORSE!
Resolution: AMOLED, 720 x 1280 pixels (306 ppi). WORSE!
Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410. NOT SURE?
CPU: Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53. NOT SURE?
GPU: Adreno 306. NOT SURE?
Memory: 16 GB, 2 GB RAM. SAME.
Camera: 8MP/5MP. WORSE!
Battery: 2050 mAh. WORSE!
Use: I'll be using the phone for calls (1-2 a week), light gaming, would like good graphics/FPS, & using as a security device for two step authentication for online accounts etc.
Thanks for the help, Phil B.
In terms of which is faster the blu vivo iv has better specifications and is faster then the air. Also because of the airs smaller and lower res screen and lower res camera I think the iv would be the better choice. However if you want the phone as thin as possible and would like to pay a bit less then the air may not be a bad choice though I think the 4 would be better for your needs.
Just my thoughts and the choice is up to you in the ene.
Hope this helps.
