Bluetooth missing in settings page - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I have purchased an Energy Sistem Android Smart TV Box running android 4.0.3.
I rooted it.
This box has no bluetooth capability, but bluetooth share service is running.
I have a BT keyboard I want to connect to.
I plug my bluetooth USB dongle but I still don't see the bluetooth button in the settings page right under WiFi.
I think that if I could have this button displayed, I could turn on bluetooth and connect my keyboard.
Does anyone know if there is an xml file to edit for this or is this more complicated and needs a dev environement ?
Any clue much appreciated.
Thanks

in fact /system/bin/bluetoothd is missing
this is called in init.rc
would there be any way to get the service binaries from another distrib ?

[Q] File transfer options other than usb? (Bluetooth, wifi, etc)

Since the transformer doesn't have usb without the keyboard dock, i was wondering if there are any apps that work with it that allow transfering files to and from the device via bluetooth, wifi or other method. If so are there other reasons people are concerned about the lack of usb on the device itself?

Hi,
I'm not really concerned with the missing usb....
There is always the microSD card. Also the wifi is good for transfering files: ES file explorer just transfered 313 images from my NAS to the Transformer.
Something that I'm not completly happy about is the MyNet app. It finds my DLNA server on the NAS, but could only manage viewing images and listening to music. Still can't get it to play video.

I discovered the magic of dropbox with my Galaxy Tab. I`d drop stuff into it on my main pc and then access with the Tab whenever I wanted. Great for smaller files like ebooks, PDFs, photos etc
can't you just plug the tablet into your computer?
With mine I just plug the cable that came with the device into my tab, plug the other end into the usb port on my computer and it shows up as an external drive. I just drag and drop.
Did I misunderstand the problem?
You can hook it up to the computer, it just has a propriety connection, it comes with the USB connector cable, it looks similar to the Iphone/Ipod cables if that helps

I don't understand why don't you just plus the USB end of the HDMI cable straight into you laptop/pc USB port and drag and drop any files.
That's another great thing android has over ipoo.
I've used bluetooth fine to transfer files between my Desire HD and the Transformer. In bluetooth settings there's advanced -> FTP server, then use ES File Explorer or something to browse files. Or you can push them the other way using 'send to' 'bluetooth'.
Oh where Oh where?!?

Uhmmm... where exactly?!? In Bluetooth settings, I have:
Bluetooth (On/Off)
Device name
Identifiable (On/Off)
Identifiable duration
Display received files
(Roughly translated from French)
No menu, no advanced settings, nothing.
I have the 16GB, Android 3.2.1 Transformer TF101
BlueTooth Version 6.24
Core Version 2.6.36.3
Build Number HTK75.US_epad.8.6.5.21
Precisions would be appreciated.
Why do you need a wired connection when you can connect using a lot of wireless options, such as:
Direct transfer bluetooth (device - device)
FTP (from or to a server)
SMB (Windows shared files/folders)
Also another great choice is unmount the SD card, and plug it to a card reader on the PC you want to copy things.

Sorry, that option is only on the Desire HD so 'built-in bluetooth file server' must be a HTC Sense thing, not standard Android. It's not in ICS either :-/
If you want to run a bluetooth file server on your Transformer, just download either 'Bluetooth File Transfer' or 'File Expert'. Once the server is running you can access it using the same app or 'ES File Explorer' on the phone.
File Expert will also do FTP over WiFi which will be faster.

I absolutely need BlueTooth. I've got this nifty little device called an Anoto pen, which is able to recors your writings on a specially marked paper. It packages those writings into a file with a PGC extension, then sends it to any moble device using BlueTooth. I have been able to make it work with numerous devices with various versions of Android (2.1 or later). But it won't work with the Transformer. I tried with BlueFTP as well, no go.
It's my impression the Transformer does not implement OBEX or OOP (whichever is needed to receive files) or simply refuses files whose extension it does not recognize. For instance, if I try to send a JPG file via Bluetooth to the Transformer using another Android phone, it works. But if I try, from that same other phone, to send a PGC file, it fails.
Any help would be truly appreciated.
Ah, yes you do need OBEX.
And you're right that only some filetypes seem to be accepted by the standard Honeycomb OBEX receiver.
But you're in luck:
The app 'Bluetooth File Transfer' has its own implementation of the OBEX receiver, you might need to enable it in settings, that one seems to accept any type of file transfer.
Watch for toasts when the app starts (after enabling the setting), if you see one saying that OBEX failed because something else is using the port you'll need to turn Bluetooth off so that the standard Honeycomb OBEX receiver stops listening, then turn on Bluetooth via the Bluetooth File Transfer app so it gets to start its receiver before the Honeycomb one starts.
I managed to make it work with BlueTooth FTP. Just needed to grant SU (again?!?), and it worked right out the box.
Now, on to my CyanogenMod'ed HTC Magic, which has the same kind of issue. Maybe your little trick about the order in which to turn bluetooth off/on will work.
I'll post back my results.

[Q] Atrix Keyboard with Charge

Thinking the Droid Charge supports the HID bluetooth profile, I purchased the Atrix keyboard; however, I cannot seem to pair it. I put the keyboard in pairing mode and then scan for Bluetooth devices. On the Charge I select the "Motorola Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard" from the menu and am given a message "Enter xxxxxx to pair with ...". This message disappears in less than a second and I'm given the error message "Unable to establish communication with ...". I never have the chance to enter the code on the keyboard ...
Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.
I believe I read somewhere that this was supposed to support the HID profile out of the box I'm not 100% sure though. You could try one of the HID drivers from the marketplace I think one is called blueinput or something similar. Post back if you get it working cause I would really like to have a wireless mini keyboard for this phone as well.

i'm not sure if this is helpful, but I paired a bluetooth mouse with my Charge, using no special drivers. I would like to know if a bluetooth keyboard would work with it though.

If you can get a mouse to work without having any special drivers/apps to support it then it at least means that the phone does support HID protocols which would mean that generic bluetooth keyboards should work. If the keyboard requires some sort of special driver that is installed after pairing it most likely won't work, though.

I should clarify and update this - the device I have is a bluetooth presentation remote/mouse. It can switch between mouse mode and presenter mode. It works for a few minutes, but then loses connection. It works fine with a computer, so I don't think there's a problem with the remote.
You can connect the Charge to BT keyboard and don't have to root..
Thanks to another member TylerMF you CAN probably pair the Atrix (also for Xoom) keyboard.
See his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28133531#post28133531
He connected his BT keyboard to an Evo successfully.
I have a Samsung CHARGE and I had the same struggle, but followed his instructions and am now connected to both the Atrix/Xoom keyboard and a Logitech bluetooth mouse.
Very nice!

I think it should work immediately after pairing up. What your bluetooth dialog says?
Hi, thanks for the reply. How do I view my bluetooth dialog?
Well, I was talking about the settings page of bluetooth devices:
- Settings / Networks / Bluetooth settings
There is a list of devices and it should say "connected" under your keyboard.
yes it does say connected. any other ideas?

Hacking JVC KW-NT30

Hi all,
I am trying to hack the jvc kw-nt30 becose a few functions on the device disturb me a lot.
So is it that the jvc kw-nt30 has a function that you can not while driving change your navigation settings,
This means if you drive 5KM/hour you can not change the drive settings,
I know the device can connect with Bluetooth and obex but it can only one way and that is from the phone to the device and not from the device to the phone or something else, so i can not browse the files in the device.
So can you guys help me with hacking this windows embedded device ?
Thanks
In advance
P.s. i was thinking of creating a mp3 that execute registry code that enables browsing with obex ?
If its anything like my Kenwood bt900 there is a grounds wire connected at the back (not the black one, I think it was solid green) and when the vehicle isn't moving it is open, and closes when you drive, so just cutting it is enough to get full functionality at all speeds
On many in dash/GPS/DVD players there is a pink wire that is supposed to go to the ebrake you can hook it up to a momentary push button switch, off the two legs(wires) of the switch connect one to ground and other to the pink wire. Push the switch once hold it in, let off and push it again. When I was an installer if the radio didn't have a code we used that method. It worked fine.
