[Q] USB port

Is the main USB port active or any good uses for it yet

USB thumbdrives appear to be the only thing that works and are not hot-swappable (must reboot to see it). On some very rare occasions the thumbdrive will be seen without a reboot, but the ratio is about 1/20 times (yes I tested this).
USB host function and bluetooth input connectivity are very poor on the stock based FW.

wireless kb/mouse work fine in cm b4

I've gotten a wireless and wired keyboard to work, but never a mouse.

Both stock and TnT Lite worked with the keyboards. I've tried USB wired and USB wireless; keyboards work, but no love for a mouse. Haven't tried Bluetooth

Few questions please:
1. Are you using TnT Lite 2.0?
2. This device really has USB wireless drivers and control chip, or do you mean bluetooth?
3. How can you get a wireless or manual keyvboard to read when the options will not allow anything but the default keyboard? This is the (or a) reason Wiimote and other input devices will not work.
4. What keyboards for USB and wireless?
I could not get the device with TnT 2.0 to see anything via USB except thumb drives and absolutely nothing is seen via bluetooth as far as input devices. Part of the problem is the same process for hotswap (that does not work) is also part of the polling process for hardware to be seen and read. Gtablet apparently does not look for devices except at start-up.

I have found that it is also good for charging my phone. Seems to work whether the screen is on or off.

I just plugged my generic wired keyboard into the USB port -- first times after the g-tablet was booted up, the second time before it was booted up -- both times the keyboard works just fine. To enter type I simply tap on the text input box and start typing on the real keyboard. If you tap on the textbox you will bring up the on-screen keyboard; that does not interfere with the real keyboard. Alternatively, you can touch the "return" button which will remove the on-screen keyboard, at which point you can then start typing with the real keyboard without the on-screen one, the one exception being the default brower (the on-screen keyboard reappears as soon as I start typing).
Right now I'm on TnT Lite 2.0, but the USB keyboard worked when I was still on stock (pre-update).
As for USB flash drive: I just plug mine into the already booted-up g-tablet, and I am able to access all the files -- I can view the pdf and listen to mp3 etc (this is definitely not true with stock TnT).
NOTE: ESfile explorer do NOT see the files on the USB drive the moment I plug the drive it. So I back out to the home screen, hit ESfile explorer again, and wa la, the files are there. I guess it takes a few seconds to scan the drive (understandable...)
I just rebooted the g-tablet and then plug in the USB drive, and it still works! This time I waited 5 seconds before firing up the ESfile explorer and the files are there.
I have no luck using a wired mouse with the g-table

I have used BT keyboard with Bluetooth keyboard app, but as has been confirmed, BT mouse does not work with bluetooth apps or dirctly. The BT program was problematic, but a generic belkin bt dongle works with the wireless keyboard just by pushing the pairing button on the dongle and then just hitting some random keys on the keyboard while it is in discover mode. After that, you just begin typing.

Whatformat does the drive have to be in for the USB to read it. Also im running latest version tnt lite and the device seems to hang alot. I have a task mgr and fequetly close apps and it helps some. Any ideas? Seems alot of stuff starts up when you boot. Is there a way to stop that?

Also my Microsoft bt kb and and mouse work fine on this device. Haven't tested the bt pocket kb for my old dell axim yet. Needs batteries.

I'm using TnT lite 2.02. I've tried a standard USB keyboard and it works fine. Takes just a few moments for detection, but afterwards tapping into any edit box allows for input via the keyboard. For wireless, I've tried several RF wireless combo units. These, from Microsoft, Logitech and a few others, have a USB transiever (sp?) That works with the keyboard, but I haven't had any luck with a mouse.
My unit seems to play nicely win USB flash drives as well, including being hot swapable friendly. I've not had to reboot just for detection of a flash drive.
They only Bluetooth device I've tried is a pair of Motorola S9 stereo headphones, which worked just as well as they do with my iPhone.

Is your device newer? As in last week or two (mine is one of the first 1,000)? No luck with mine to the point I returned it yesterday, a few days before too late to return it. I tried everything I could think of with no luck.
What was the keyboard model & number? Zero luck with bluetooth as well, for any input device I tried. Using the same FW as you are.

As soon as I plug it in it works. A mouse cursor pops up when it detects the slightest movement of the trackball.
Again, this is wireless not BT on CM B4.

Sorry, I am referring to TnT based FW. With CM you lose either the internal or external microsd (one or the other).
Of course CM works, since no lame TnT OEM devs to screw things up that should not be messed with in the first place
If CM ever works with all storage, it will be a nice option
People report success with TnT 2.0, but not seeing any specifics as to how and what they are using. Nothing worked for me using TnT 2.0.

I have used a thumbdrive with good results. I usually put the tablet to sleep while swapping the usb drive in or out. This accomplishes two things...one, it keeps the tablet from spontaneously rebooting (which happened to me once while pulling out the thumb drive) and two, it ensures that the tablet sees the the usb drive. The tablet seems to scan for drives when it wakes up.

On my tab with CM B4 \sdcard is my 8gb micro sd (external card) and \emmc is the onboard 16gb of space. It still doesn't go into usb storage mode when plugged into a PC but you can adb in or go to CW and mount usb. I'm pretty sure Bekit integrated the fixes that came down with the TnT update, not to mention more that we found. Huge thanks to him for all his hard work and quick updates.

Apple bluetooth keyboard

I can't seem to find a definite answer to this: Has anyone had an Apple bluetooth keyboard work with their g tablet? There's a laptop like case for the ipad that has a bluetooth keyboard that I would like to modify for the g tablet, but I'm not sure if the bluetooth keyboard that comes with it would work.

Same here. I have an iPad (company issued) with the keyboard but I can't make it pair with the gTab. It sees the keyboard and asks for a code and I've tried 0000 and the classic 1234 and neither seems to allow a connection.
A while back when I was looking for something similar and found this.

I tried that just to check but no dice. In order for me to type it on the keyboard it needs to be paired with the device. It doesn't pair so that didn't work. It was worth a shot though.

I tried using a seperate device and that didnt work either. Maybe some hack????
I tried typing on keyboard too and that didnt work... thought about it but no go.

Sorry your having problems, what you need to do is get blueinput
its on the apps store, it works kind of.
Its been a few weeks since i set it up and used it,
From what I remember you have to install the apk into the system apk section on your tablet then just load the app and select the blueinput keyboard then it works.
it is limited and I lost connection a lot but as far as I could see it was the only way to get it to work.
Yes i used this with the mac keyboard, there is a topic on it somewhere in the g tab forums, and I believe it was a tutorial how to get it fully working.
If you guys cant find it I will do some digging or reinstall it and tell you all how to do it.

Yeah blueinput is what others are using, with that said most bluetooth things require a different program to get connected which sucks. They should have at least gotten bluetooth mouse and keyboard working in the Android OS by now...

I have not tryed prscott1's method my self but i think otheres have said it works.

[Q] USB Mouse and Keyboard

Is there anything I need to do/install to get my mouse or keyboard to work on 3.1? When I plug them in, nothing happens. I've also tried plugging in my iPhone and an Xbox 360 controller, just to see if there is any response to any of them to show that the Xoom sees them.
I have a wired mouse and wireless keyboard (I figured keyboard wouldn't work). I'm trying to figure out if I may just have a bad OTG adapter.

Bluetooth keyboards work just fine.
You won't get any notifications or popups when you plug in a device, they will just start working (eg, you can just start typing with the keyboard).

Yeah I assumed they would just start working, but I wasn't sure if my wireless keyboard would work. I know when I am, for example, installing windows the keyboard works before drivers get installed, just not to the full extent.

I was wondering about this aswell. Doesn't it need to download drivers for the keyboard/mouse to work? Also since there's only one USB plug, would a hub work to get like a keyboard and mouse working at the same time?

You'd want to use Mouse Without Borders or Synergy (will require "jailbreaking" the RT) to control two devices with one set of peripherals. Otherwise, no - Bluetooth peripherals can only be actively paired with one machine.

That's not true. My Surface Pro actively pairs with a BT mouse, a BT keyboard and a HTC phone (BT tethering) simultaneously without any issue. My Samsung GT 7.0 plus did the same thing.

Yep, and a few more peripherals as well. Can't remember the upper limit, but it's like 7 simultaneously? Something like that.

It's not just paring it simultaneously, but using it simultaneously. I don't want to buy a cover keyboard because I already have a wedge keyboard and mouse. I might be forced to buy the cover if I can't use my intended setup simultaneously.

Ah... I may have misinterpreted the request. It is of course possible to use multiple peripherals with one device at the same time. I thought you were asking about using the same peripherals with multiple devices at once (which is possible via software like Mouse Without Borders).
Stupid ambiguous English "or". I need to stop parsing sentences so literally. I didn't realize that one-device-many-peripherals was even soemthing somebody would ask about.

I use my Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse together with my Surface Pro without any problems. ....well, there's one problem... the mouse lags big time when I'm downloading files over wifi. This is due to interference caused by 2.4Ghz wifi & bluetooth operating at the same time. There's no lag when I'm just browsing the web though.

You were right. I ever tried using one bt mouse to control two devices and failed. I thought you were talking the same question the op asked.

Thats 1 host connecting to many devices. GoodDay said its impossible for 1 device to connect to many hosts. Technically he is wrong as bluetooth slaves can have more than 1 master but this is very difficult to do and the HID profile for mice and keyboards does not support that either then making him right again.
But yeah. But otherwise yeah. A tablet or laptop or any other bluetooth master/host can connect to multiple devices/slaves at one time. One bluetooth adaptor should be able to connect to 7 other devices at once although some support less (this is rare).
Under normal conditions though a bluetooth mouse or keyboard (a slave device) cannot connect to more than one device AT ONE TIME. There are pieces of software which allow multiple PC's to share a mouse or keyboard though.

Ah cool, I didn't know that some BT profiles support multiple hosts active at once. I've only ever used mice and headsets, and the mice (didn't try the headsets) would need to be re-paired with the other computer if I wanted to switch which one it was connected to.
In any case, multiple clients was definitely supported, and this was in Vista. I'm sure Win8 has no issues there.

Yeah, its a right pain in the ass to deal with though. Sometimes gets used in robotics. You probably wont ever find it in consumer use, most consumer applications for bluetooth just need the 1 host.
Another weird quirk in bluetooth is switching roles on the fly. 2 devices, ie 2 phones, can start a connection with one of them acting as master and the other as slave, mid way through communication they can then reverse that role. Seen that one used before.

Blue Ant has an earpiece that can pair to two phones at the same time. I used to have one. Had it paired with my work phone and personal phone. It had different ring tones for both phones. You could also switch between the phones while on a call if the other phone recieved a call.

i've tried logitech k400 with my surface - minikeyboard&touchpad-in-one. works perfect.
2nd solution: you can use any usb-hub to connect your favorite usb keyboard and mouse and even something else simultaneously. :good:

Problem between a Wireless keyboard and Tronsmart MK908II touch response

The problem is that there is a lag between the keyboard commands and the response of the device. For example as you wiggle your finger on the touchpad on the keyboard, cursor on the TV screen does not reflect correctly and on time, and the same with keystrokes. Especially if the distance between me and the TV stick is more than one meter is almost impossible to perceive commands.
At first I thought it was the keyboard, but after I connected it to the computer, I saw that it works absolutely perfectly, even from a distance of 5-6 meters, there is no delay when you press buttons. Unfortunately, not so with the tv stic... Pls tell me what to do ??? The device has the last Android 4.2.2 version, there is no newest at the moment. Does it need to install a program to respond better wireless keyboards? The keyboard come without software, just plug and play.

Keyboards are a drama! I use droidmote to control my sticks via tablet or phone. The stick needs to be rooted and you install a serverapp on it which you connect to via Wi-Fi from your client app on your other devices. Once working I ditch my keyboard.

I fixed the problem! I use a different port on the device, which is micro USB. Use transitions and include in it the keypad transmitter. Apparently the standard USB does not have enough power to supply it correctly.
