confused about rooting and sim unlock - General Questions and Answers

ok so heres the deal. i have a lg spectrum (lg vs920) i have rooted and installed a custom rom. Now that i have done this am i able to use any sim card in it? i would like to go with simple mobile but dont know if i have to do anything else.
thanks for any help

I think SIM Lock is something else. I think it still has to be removed, although now that you're root, it is likely to be trivial.
Why don't you check first, by trying to boot with a SIM card from another provider (active one). If locked, it will ask you to enter a "subsidy code".

Did you try inserting "a SIM card not attached to your current provider (e.g if you have T-mob use an ATT SIM CARD) and turn on your phone?" (credit sanfranx415 post) edit: maybe try a different gsm carrier in the same country you reside.
From what I have read and understand different versions of busybox will work or are compatible for different things (maybe somebody will tell me if that is not accurate).
Here is a video that might help.
Good luck!
Try contacting t mobile and tell them your going overseas for a few months and want to take your phone with you and is there a way to unlock it so it can be used in another country.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
When you insert the sim card and power up the phone, as you unlock it it should give you a network lock screen that only lets you use the phone after inputting the unlock code.

[Q] Checking for a Sim lock? No Service on any sim

I have a European LG P500. The problem I have is that no matter what SIM I try to put in it, it always says "No Service". I'm thinking it is either the card reader or a sim lock at this point. Before I spend 10 euro on an unlock code, is there a way to check if it is locked to a certain company for sure? Is there any other reason as to why this phone says "No Service" no matter what. By the way, I have rooted and flashed the device with no results. Would changing basebands help? Where can I find 64 bit drivers?
thanks in advance
There is fix below in my signature. Flash the first link.
If you stil face this issue.. download the first link.. unzip and and paste it in /system/lib using root explorer.
Mount r/w in root explorer.
After pasting 3 libs.. set permission x.x.-, x.-.-, x.-.-.
PM if you have doubts.
I have already flashed this zip. I downloaded and flashed cyanogen mod 7, and this fix was listed there for the older baseband users. The problem is, this phone didn't read sims even before I flashed it. It has nothing to do with the rom. I can safely conclude it's either the baseband or some other part of the firmware, the sim reader, or an internal hard-coded sim lock. Please help Thank you
I updated the baseband to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and now it acknowledges the sim but it insists that I am making calls "outside of service area". In other words I cannot make any calls. I take it this is its way of saying i'm simlocked to a certain carrier. can anyone confirm or disprove this?
Check if you have balance to make calls.
Check with other sim cards.
Stil you face this problem.. you need to get ALL GSM unlock code. Search.
To use the unlock codes.. you need to flash a stock rom.

Tips/Help with Network/SIM Unlock Problem

EDIT: Nevermind, I called ATT to double check and they gave me a different code that worked. Sorry for the post.
I know this gets asked alot, but the information, situations, and answers out there are so many it is difficult to determine what needs to be done, so I am hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction.
I had unlocked my bootloader using htcdev, installed 4ext recovery, and flashed latest Cyanogenmod. I have been wanting to switch to T-mobile (I know about the possibility of not having 4g with that) and come to find out, entering the Network PUK code doesnt work in Cyanogen..
I gleaned that I needed to re-flash stock rom and then try to unlock, but I did this, and it still isnt accepting the code, argh. Do I need to relock my bootloader or do anything special? I got this code straight from ATT. With the ATT SIM in the phone, it doesnt ask for it, I restart phone with my T-mobile SIM in, and it asks for the code, but always says its incorrect. How is it checking this anyway, as it doenst seem to be communicating over the mobile network.
Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

[Q] Do you know how to unlock i8262?

Hello, I got the phone from a week, but I managed to lock the second slot, and when I put a sim card in, it asks for network unlock sim code.
I know there are a lot ot threads here, but I didn't found something that works for this model. I can use ADB, Terminal, my phone is rooted, so if you give me a clues how to unlock it, I will be very grateful.

S7 - Sprint - SM-G930P - ROOT/UNLOCK HELP

Ok, I have a S7 I just bought from some guy on Craigslist. He said it's unlocked BUT.. I put my AT&T sim in and it says "INVALID SIM CARD" Its a SPRINT phone and I want to use it with my AT&T for coverage reasons. Can someone PLEASE tell me a beginner how on earth to make this happen step by step. Do i need to root it, is it really unlocked if it is telling me this on my valid sim card that works in my other phone, if it is LOCKED how do i unlock it, Do i need to ROOT it to unlock it , do i need to flash firm ware... I am willing to PAY someone to log onto my computer via TEAM VIEWER to unlock it or flash it or whatever needs to be done to make it work. I am online on SKYPE tonight for a few more mins so if you want to give it a go and know what your doing contact me at thereverendd on skype. If i dont answer, I will when i get on for sure next time. But I am here for a little while longer tonight... Thanks to all in advance..
If it's the same as the S5, you can't SIM unlock by rooting or flashing firmware, you'd have to take it to an unlock shop, or pay for an online service
Not sure about the US, but in the UK we can call the carrier and request an unlock code once the phone is over 6 months old on that carrier (Pay n Go) or contract some carriers provide an app to request unlock
I'm new to the S7 though so there may be another method

So what became of this issue? Did you get it unlocked? If so how did you do it and where?
