Is my transformer dying? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought a transformer tf101 last black friday and rooted it and had been using for quite a while. i stopped using it about 3-4 months ago because i thought the charger was messed up because it wouldnt charge or turn on. last week i decided to give it a try and it turned on. when i turned it on the battery was dead and it was hooked up to the charger and it woudnt charge. and when i unplugged the charger it would immediately turn off. so i reset battery settings in recovery and flashed the latest cyanogen nightly and now im beginning to have another problem. the tablet randomly turns off when in sleep mode. what could be the culprit?

TF101G here. I flashed a CM-based ROM for a few days (the experimental JB 3G one) and had a similar problem - in sleep mode the tablet would sometimes power down and require a full boot to restart. Seemed to do it more when the battery was low, I wondered if it was a power-saving 'feature'. But couldn't get 3G to work either so I flashed back to Android Revolution HD and so far haven't had any problems, ARHD seems quite fast and stable on mine. So before trashing the transformer I'd maybe try some different ROMS. Good luck.

[Q] Wierd behaviour

I bought my gtablet from woot around 3 weeks ago and installed cyanogen 7.0.3 on it on the first day. I had been working great till today. Last night I charged the tablet fully before going to bed and disconnected it once it was fully charged. Today morning when I woke up the screen would not turn ON. I thought the battery must have drained and so I connected the power supply and it started charging the tablet. After 15 mins the screen came on by itself. So I then switched off the screen and left for work.
Once I got back from work I switched the screen on and the screen came on without any issues. But then it just hung. None of the buttons respond, not even the power button. The screen has been on for the last 4 hours. My computer is unable to detect it when connected via USB. If I connect the power supply I can see the charging light come on.
Has anyone else come across this issue? Is there a way to resolve this issue?
sounds very very familiar to my issue... been up all night trying to figure it out no luck thus far... nvflash wont recognize it on two different computers and not a chance at getting to cwm...
It shutdown once the battery drained. Charged it up and it started fine. Now I am issues updating my apps from the market place . The error I get is "There was an error downloading the update"

[Q] WTF is going on with my TF101?

So I got my TF101 from MacMall on the eBay deal of the day yesterday and out of the box put it on the adapter. Once it was charged past 50% I ran the 3.2 update which completed without issues. Then I let it continue charging to 100% and took it off the charger and played with it briefly. Put it back in the box and carried it around for the rest of the day waiting to have a chance to use it/play with it but client needs came first. Get home that night (~6 hours since I removed it from the charger) and nothing. Black screen with nothing displayed in response to very long press of power button. Vol + and power = nothing. Figure that the battery is dead (crappy) and I will have to wait until the office in the morning to charge it since I left the block and cable there. Get to office this morning and put it on the charger and nothing still - no light to show charging and device does not turn on. Call ASUS support and after getting relative details and discussing situation it turns on fine for me (after I had tried for 15+ minutes) after disconnecting from charging block. I put it down to weirdness and move on. Now at home fully charged it is doing the same crap.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Since updating to 3.2 my battery life is really bad too... Used to get a couple of days out of the tab and dock with frequent use... now it lasts maybe a day with barley any use.

Hi brando56894, do you know if this "sleep of death" is a problem with the 3.2 update? The post's in this thread are from members with new vanilla 3.1 Transformers.
My Transformer will arrive in a few days, I just want to avoid any pitfalls because the Transformer is a gift for my girlfriend. She is not a techie, and I would like her to love and use this ANDROID beauty.
Many thanks, Anil.

OK - thanks for the identification of the problem and a thread on what is being done to research/resolve.

[Q] Odd charging issue.

Hey all, got a bit of an odd issue with charging whilst phone is switched off.
when i plug it in, the orange light comes on, but then after a few seconds it goes off. i can sometimes see a faint red glow in the trackpad, and others the camera flash LED's even flash, 1, 2 or sometimes 3 times.
im not really sure if its charging, it doenst seem to be.
Charges fine when on. OR when off with "Fast boot" enabled (i usualy have that off).
im running latest CWM Recovery from rom manager. 5.0.2.7 from RM 4.8.0.2
Rom wise im using Undead's Senseless v3.7.1
Rooted and S-OFF using Revolutionary.
Any thoughts?
TIA.
Ross.
I think its normal. Mine has done that too an.d charged

Try rebooting the phone again and then shut it down. Now wait almost a minute before plugging in the charger. If fastboot is unchecked and I plug in the charger too fast after turning off the phone, I get that issue too sometimes. Waiting a little longer before plugging in seems to do it for me.
i'm pretty sure this is a ClockworkMod issue, and each new release was supposed to fix it, but i guess not? i'm 99% sure when i briefly rolled back to unrooted stock, this issue wasn't there. and even with the issue, i believe the battery charges, regardless of what the light is doing?

It's definitely a ClockworkMod issue and you're right every Recovery Release to date has had it's problem in the charging department with the phone off and fastboot unchecked.
On the latest OFFICIAL release (v5.0.2.7)though, the steps in my previous post seem to help. If fastboot is unchecked and you turn the phone off, just wait a really long pause before plugging in the charger and it may blink once but then the orange charging light will come on and stay on and will turn green when charged like it's supposed to. It also doesn't freeze the phone up like the first Revolutionary Recovery we had.
This has been my experience with Official CWM Recovery v5.0.2.7 while leaving fastboot unchecked. I hope it helps.
Cool, will do that. Gotta finally upgrade from CWM 4.0.0.9 I guess
Thanks for the replies. ive tried switching off, and leaving for a while, and then plugging in. Orange light came on, but after about 5 mins it went off. i tried switching it back on again but had to unplug charger before it would power on. i then just charged normally as battery was low and didnt want to risk being unable to charge.
ive just reflashed 5.0.2.7 and will test again soon incase there was something wrong there.
battery was completely full this morning at 7am. and even just with phone sat there idle, only got just over 8 hours out of it and it was down to 24%. so now also wondering if there is some other issue with the rom or recovery. seems to be pulling between 250 and 500ma even with screen off. (using current widget)
will see what happens and report back.
Just a quick update. switched off, and plugged in again. light blinked twice and went off. but could faintly see trackpad flashing. tried to take picture, and obviouslt its the IR LED inside flashing. see attached.
then 10 mins later, orange charge light has finally come on. and trackpad stopped flashing. Lets see if it charges!
weird things going on with this phone! lol.

Keyboard causing tablet to shutdown?

Is anyone having issues with the keyboard causing the tablet to turn off? It's not doing it while I'm using it just when I close it the tablet turns completely off sometimes. I've had the tablet for several weeks and had no issues but just got the keyboard a few days ago and now it has random shutdowns. Example: On break at work I closed my tablet and walked approximately 50ft to my workstation opened it back up to plug in the speakers to listen to Pandora and the tablet was off, not like stuck in sleep mode but completely off had to hold power for 1-2 secs it vibrated and thee boot logo came up. Would like to know if I should contact Asus or if it might just be a bug in the ROM.
Asus Transformer Infinity Champagne 32GB CleanRom 3.1 Odex
Happens to me sometimes, too.
Happens all the time here.
There is a thread about it.
No solution so far.
I have returned my tablet 3 times to my reseller (it's currently in their hands), who RMAed it to Asus once. I have no info about what they've done.
After the last RMA, it took 2 days before the trouble occurred again and it usually occurred after a 10-15mn sleep. After a few days it occurred instantly.
Tablet is full stock, wiped again and again, reflashed, whatever. Full charge, middle charge is the same.
I do hope for a replacement this time.

That's a different problem, I was having having that issue when i was running earlier versions of CleanROM but since the 3.1 update I haven't had that issue. That issue the tablet is frozen or stuck in sleep my issue is the tablet is off completely. But there are are others in that thread posting about having issues similar to mine.

I think the shutdown may caused by a few issues, no don't considered every shutdown is the same. One maybe hardware, one maybe hardware. I suggest to try everything before you ship it back. In my case, I removed my keyboard dock and charge it over night BY ITSELF, then charge your tablet also by itself, put them together then I do a factory reset, then re flash a full Asus firmware. After that I never seen this issue again.
I'll try that when I get the chance but I turned the power save setting for the keyboard on and it stopped shutting down.

I've had my keyboard for a few weeks now. I shut the keyboard and open all the time. I have it so I can wake the tablet with the keyboard. Never had the tablet shutdown by itself. I'm stock, rooted and locked.

[INFO]Software related charging issue on S4

Hi guys,
Had a very weird issue yesterday with my Rogers S4. I have flashed a bunch of ROMS in the past, but wanted to try the new MEA firmware based ROMS..
Well yesterday i tried Mint Jelly v2.1 (flashed via TWRP) and immediately without rebooting flashed 005 FAUX kernal to avoid boot loops. My battery was about 15% at the time. The flash took, and the phone rebooted into the ROM no issues.
Noticed that when i plugged in the charger to my S4 it was NO LONGER charging. I tried multiple 2.1amp chargers, and cables, including OEM, and it no longer charged. However it charged my NOTE2 with no issues.
This is when i was about to FREAK.. but i recall from my HP Touchpad days that sometimes if the battery dies, you need to do something special to get hte phone to charge back up again.
So what i did, was completely shut down the phone, and plug it back in the charger, and it started to charge again. But immediately booting into Android, it would still no longer charge!!.. So i let it charge up for an hour wiht the power off. Once i booted in again, the phone was able to charge again normally with all my chargers while booted in.
I thought my situation was a freak incident until i noticed another XDA member report the same issue. This is NOT a hardware issue, but something related to software.. So give my advice a shot incase you encounter this yourselves!

Never flash anything or make major changes to your phone with a low battery (below 70%).
I may be the member he was talking about. I had a thread on this. Only difference was my phone wouldn't charge at all. When I plugged it in when it was off it would boot loop the charge screen. It was rooted and I had some bloat frozen, but the issue started after I installed Sugarsync. I had the same configuration for a few days with no problems, and my battery was about 50 percent when I tried to charge.

It's definitely possible and usually will work just fine. There are a couple of reasons to flash on a full battery. If something goes wrong and takes a lot longer than originally anticipated, there is less chance of the battery going dead while things are being fixed. Plus, many ROMs (Kernels actually) enact different power profiles for different stages of charge. If this is the case, flashing might not go as anticipated.

I bricked a S2 like that. Flashed a rom adn the battery drained in the process, causing it not flash properly. phone was dead, no download mode or anything.
