[Q] Update Issue - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi guys. Sorry if this has been covered already, I'm sure that others may have had this problem too.
The issue I am facing is with my Samsung Galaxy S3. I am running on 4.0.4 which I rooted with Heimdall Frontend 1.3 on my Mac.
I am a novice with the whole rooting thing so I am a bit confused. I am at the moment living in Australia, my mobile is an unbranded phone which I bought on contract in the UK on Vodafone and am now using it here on Optus mobile.
I had a firmware update sent through tonight which I downloaded over the air, the download completed and so I proceeded to update. The update failed after only a few seconds directing me to the rooted firmware bios.
So where do I go from here? I would like Jelly Bean on my mobile but I seem to not be able to get it because of the root I guess. I'm thinking I may have to use SU to unroot the mobile and install the update but is there a better way and is Jelly Bean rootable yet?
Sorry if I'm a pain in the ass

Hello

Hey guys.
I didn't know if this exactly qualifies as a question or an inquiry, so I decided to post it here.
I live in Palestine, and I have friends who use the Samsung GS2. Now as we all know, the GS2 received an update to ICS a while ago.
Non of my friends where able to upgrade nor through the in-device update option or through Kies.
I have a GS3, I haven't updated it in over a month. I keep looking for official OTAs through my phone but it keeps giving Me the "cannot connet to network" error. I get nothing through Kies which says I have the latest firmware.
I was able to check for updates normally when I bought my phone in Jordan and if there was no update it will till me so.
My question is, is there no server in Palestine or something?
All the phones mentioned above are unrooted and are international phones ans not locked to a carrier.
Thanks in advance!

Official U.S. ICS ROM released yet?

As the title says, just wondering if the official US rom has been released yet OTA or otherwise. I think (pretty sure) I'm running the U.K. version right now and I only have 1 minor problem which is the reminder to setup software updates doesn't work. Also, I'm thinking about giving this tablet to my GF for Christmas and getting the Galaxy Tab 7.7 for myself for the better screen.
Thanks for the help!
Bump?
If you're asking if Samsung issued an upgrade to ICS for the 7.0 Plus in the US, the answer is yes. AFAIK, it had to be installed using Kies.
I can confirm this, I just updated my tab yesterday via kies and it's now in ICS 4.04
OK cool. I'll flash back to stock and do an upgrade to the official
On a side note, I also followed the root instructions under the CWM 6.0 thread in development and it still works :good:

Can I trick my Tab into JB update?

Call me crazy, but I kinda like Touchwiz on my week old Tab 2. Any way I am still a noob to Android, even though I almost killed my Hipstrret Flare.
I have been reading the forums, and have seen the UK got the JB update, and I don't think I am ready to attempt a root and flash with Odin yet.
So I was wondering if I can just change my location in Tablet to say I am from the UK to get the update, or will that still report no update available based off my IP ??? ( or something in a chip inside )
Is there an easy way to fool my Tablet? Or will I just have to wait for the North American update?
Jusy root and use Odin. It is so easy to do. Just read tuts and before you know it you'll be on JB

[Q] i5081 never been updated

Hi all.
I have watched the NOOB Video. I have scoured the forum. I have looked at other Android sites. I,m at a loss.
I have recently been given an old stock GT-I5801 that was never updated and network locked to Orange. To be able to use the phone I unlocked it. I gave my rooted xperia x8 running a hacked 2.2 to my son, as I read that the I5801 had an official Froyo 2.2 update. I installed KIES, updated as requested when first running the software, and it doesn't recognise the phone. I tried uninstalling/re-installing KIES and not updating it, I found that the phone had two Home screens (orange and TwLauncher) I tried connecting using both.
I have found instructions on how to put the official firmware update on not using KIES but the links to the firmware its self are broken.
I decided to update to a Android system 2.3.7 / CyanogenMod 7.2, however the instruction require I root it, the instructions to root are for Froyo 2.2
I'm going around in circles, I'm at a loss. can any one point me in the right direction to get at least Froyo 2.2 official on this phone. Thanks.
P.S. I may of ignored the part in the NOOB video that tells us to be brief...........sorry.
Just flash cm7 or any rom with odin, check the flashing guide in sticky thread.

Well if that's the only way, would been nice to have a fully working 2.2 rather than a hack with issues. I'll go look into the least problematic one, cant be any worse than 2.1 stock.

GT-I5801 has indeed been updated to Froyo and Froyo is one of the more stable firmware/ROM for our mobile.
You can download any stock Froyo ROM of your wish from the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497261.
Esle, you can look up to this thread to use any of the Custom ROMs which have better features than stock ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234591
I prefer Kisadworx or PuruKisadHybrid.
Download Kyrillos rom or any rom flashable via Odin. Just flash it no need to root as many roms are prerooted.

[Q] Kies won't offer latest firmware. Stuck w/ GB

So my dad and I both have the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE Skyrocket from Rogers; I727R. A couple days ago I updated mine via Kies from Gingerbread 2.3.5 to Jellybean 4.1.2. Today I tried updating his (also GB 2.3.5), but once I connect his device, Kies says it already has the latest firmware.
Is there a way around this? I explained my situation to Samsung Support over the phone and the representative's suggestion was that "even if someone had the exact same phone model and carrier, the update could be rolled out at different times." And I was advised to just wait. Hasn't Jellybean been out for a few months now?
I tried a hard reset on his phone and it still didn't offer any firmware updates. Can anyone help? Thanks.
If Kies does not work for you, read the stickies. In them you will find all the directions to use Odin to update your Dad's phone. You will also find in there all the files you need to do it. Good luck!
