Hello - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys.
I didn't know if this exactly qualifies as a question or an inquiry, so I decided to post it here.
I live in Palestine, and I have friends who use the Samsung GS2. Now as we all know, the GS2 received an update to ICS a while ago.
Non of my friends where able to upgrade nor through the in-device update option or through Kies.
I have a GS3, I haven't updated it in over a month. I keep looking for official OTAs through my phone but it keeps giving Me the "cannot connet to network" error. I get nothing through Kies which says I have the latest firmware.
I was able to check for updates normally when I bought my phone in Jordan and if there was no update it will till me so.
My question is, is there no server in Palestine or something?
All the phones mentioned above are unrooted and are international phones ans not locked to a carrier.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] flashed my galaxy s2. updating question.

I have a sprint galaxy s2 epic 4g touch. I flashed it for metropcs. and now all my options for updating the phone through settings dont work. Also Kies shows an error for updates as well.
How do I update my phone?
I'm asking mainly for the ICS that should be coming shortly. I dont want to miss out!
is there anyone who can help me out on this?
Your updates come from Sprint. You are not on the Sprint Network. You will not get updates.
Most roms Will remove kies support.
Kies won't work

[Q] Update Issue

Hi guys. Sorry if this has been covered already, I'm sure that others may have had this problem too.
The issue I am facing is with my Samsung Galaxy S3. I am running on 4.0.4 which I rooted with Heimdall Frontend 1.3 on my Mac.
I am a novice with the whole rooting thing so I am a bit confused. I am at the moment living in Australia, my mobile is an unbranded phone which I bought on contract in the UK on Vodafone and am now using it here on Optus mobile.
I had a firmware update sent through tonight which I downloaded over the air, the download completed and so I proceeded to update. The update failed after only a few seconds directing me to the rooted firmware bios.
So where do I go from here? I would like Jelly Bean on my mobile but I seem to not be able to get it because of the root I guess. I'm thinking I may have to use SU to unroot the mobile and install the update but is there a better way and is Jelly Bean rootable yet?
Sorry if I'm a pain in the ass

[Q] HTC One X Jelly Bean OTA

I live in Australia and I use Virgin Mobile's One X. My CID is HTC_023, so I assume that my phone is unbranded. I am currently running a European stock ROM. Does this mean that I will receive the Jelly Bean update when the European handsets get it or should I wait until the Virgin Mobile Australia handsets get it?
I am a noob at this stuff so please help me out.

Since you're unbranded, you'll get it whenever the ota is released for your phone. No need to worry about being on a carrier or not

Not another thread about the OTA for gods sake. I think everyone has discussed this to such a point that now there is nothing left to discuss. Please read the existing threads before making another one. Cheers

I'm with Virgin as well in Australia. I contacted Virgin once when Sense 4.1 came out to ask when the update would come out and they said that they had no plans to do an update. Then when Jelly Bean was released, i contacted them again via email to ask when they were planning to at least update the One X to Sense 4.1 or hopefully Jelly Bean. Their reply the second time was pretty much the same, they said that they're not planning to update the One X and they referred me to ask HTC's support for more information. In asking the above both times, i mentioned how Optus and Vodafone users had both received updates to at least Sense 4.1 and how Virgin uses Optus' networks, so clearly it's Virgin's fault that their users haven't received the update since Optus users have been running it just fine for a while.
So then i went to HTC Australia's support. I had a live web chat with one of their customer service reps and i asked him if it was possible for me to get any kind of update since Virgin isn't planning to do any updates. He asked for my IMEI and then told me that my phone is a modified Vodafone handset that is unlocked. He then told me that if i was going to get any update on my phone, it would come from Vodafone.
SidDev, i'd recommend for you to go to here and talk to HTC and see if you're in the same boat that i'm in. Hopefully you are, which would mean that you WILL get an update eventually from Vodafone. I must say though, i've been quite disappointed with Virgin's service and their responses to this issue.
Btw if you found this post useful, please hit the thanks button .
Curious, what chip set you guys have?
JB is not out for the XL S4, yet this is the XL forum.
You might get more help in the X forums unless I misunderstood something here.

Wifi Tethering on ATT... A Flash ROM to solve it?

My friend just bought a used Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T from someone and cannot use it as a hotspot because she gets an error message saying to call 611. I'm curious if that message is caused by the software installed by Samsung or if it is actually a message from the ATT service they use. If it is client side (on the phone) then I would guess that Flashing a new ROM would solve this.
Does anyone know what the situation is with the Wifi Hotspot Tethering on these phones?

What rom is it running now?
My guess is ICS.
Now, carries collect every time you guys use wifi hotspot?
That is just nasty.
Everything is stock on this phone. It is running ICS 4.0.4... I'm trying to root it (OneClickRoot did not work) and get Barnacle going. Hopefully it works. If anyone knows of a way to root this phone (without flashing) we can get this question answered, I think.
Tried...
z4root - no
Universal Androot - no... only works up to Android 2.2
SuperOneClick - no .... sits Waiting for Device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 - no go... went through the process like everything was fine but the filesystem is read only... no go.
I'm out of ideas.
Also should mention, now that I have the phone. I found out that it is model SGH-i727

This forum is for the i9100, what you have is the Skyrocket. To get tethering you will need to flash a unbranded rom (NOT a i9100).
Go check the skyrocket forum. I'll report thread so its moved to correct forum for you.
Flash CWM via Odin, then use it to install superuser zip on the stock rom and you'll have root. Details are in vincom's sticky in this forum.

If you do not want to root phone and keep stock google foxfi. I believe I downloaded from the play store. But if u cant find it there then google it. I went this route for about eight months. Then rooted about a week ago.

Thanks for the help guys. I was trying to avoid ODIN but I am learning that ODIN is my friend. It worked like a charm.
Foxfi did not work on the phone for some reason. Thanks for the heads up though. :good:

How long can I go without updating from 5.0.2

Hello xda forum. I currently have a samsung galaxy s6 that has been rooted. I actually tripped Knox in the process by using TWRP. and I was wondering when do I have to update before my apps stop working because of my android version being too low? I was reading online that Android 6.0 marshmallow was going to be released in the fall so I'm wondering if I'm going to have to update to that when it comes out. And how do I update when I'm rooted on 5.0.2 I can't use an OTA update because I tried going into the settings and I tried doing a software update in there but its not letting me so how am I supposed to update my phone to marshmallow 6.0? I'm from Canada and our cell phone plans last two years so if I can go without updating for two years I will be happy. can somebody please reply saying what I should do?

2 years will be fine. No offence mate but keep your threads to a minimum for similar questions. This easily could have been dealt with in your other post
