First of all, please excuse my ignorance/ lack of knowledge on the subject. Currently shopping for my first Android phone, and I live in South Korea. Of the custom roms that are developed for North American/ European markets, will they be compatible with a Korean carrier/ phone, or will the kernel be different and render these roms useless for me? Be gentle.

Now, that the Xoom will be released in Germany, will there be a chance to get US Wifi version localized with German language and apps? Or are there hardware differences to flash a German Wifi stock rom?
Seems to be the only way to get the german apps running.
Thanks for your thoughts,

Keine Ahnung... But if you check this thread they show that even the North American models (Canada vs US) differ significantly. Doesn't look that good for you. There were posts about people bricking their Xooms by flashing an incompatible kernel.
Hi everyone.
I am a newb to Android, and I have a difficult situation at hand.
Here is my long and winding story.
I am currently living in Canada, using Rogers Mobile, and someone is giving me a Galaxy Note from South Korea (SHV-E-160S).
It is unlocked.
Will I be able to use this phone in Canada? I don't have a data plan so using 3G or LTE or anything like that is not a major problem.
Also, if I root it, will I be able to use any useful custom roms? or is that impossible because of the lack of developer support?
Here is the second part of my problem. If I opt to sell the Note, and get a galaxy S3, which model should I be looking into?
I am trying to use the phone in both Canada and in South Korea, and I want it to work on both. However, I know that Rogers is GSM and most of the networks in South Korea are WCDMA. Also, which model has the best developer support for ROMs?
Sorry, I just have so many questions and not enough answers anywhere.. Please help!
The note will work.
The international gs3 will work in Korea
Sent from my U8150 using XDA
Yes you should be able to use it!
And be able to root and customize it as well!
Btw...the galaxy note is a stable phone...but if you are still opting to sell it...then the galaxy s3 international version will do!
It should work in South Korea and Canada as well!
Dont know as to which model has the best developer support yet...Sorry!
I've been wondering why same Samsung deices have different PDAs and regions? Why don't they have the same regions?
If they were from one region, they could easily be upgraded to newer android OS. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition with a UAE ROM, and i have gotten the latest update, kitkat. But my friend with the same device but with a different region hasn't received the update. Why?

Some of it is to discourage gray-market imports, some of it would be localization (I'd expect a phone or tablet for Mexico would default to Spanish language, for instance), and some of it has to do with what frequencies and network types are supported, and certification from local communications authorities. Even in the US, an S6 from T-Mobile is not at all the same as one from Verizon. In the US, Wi-Fi channels 12, 13, and 14 are not legal to use, and other countries also have restrictions on certain channels.
For those of you running this handset in North America on AT&T, and assuming you are still running stock images, have you found a particular CSC\firmware image that works well for you? Via Sammobile, seems like the very latest build was only released for a few region variants (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal) and I'm not sure which of these (or another if I should really be running something older) would be best to use here.
Also, and I know it's been asked and answered extensively on the Samsung boards, but I still find the plethora of regional variants (and no real "generic" option for folks like me operating a 925I on a carrier that Samsung didn't intend for it run on) pretty baffling. Does anyone really know what's the true difference between many of them? I know that some might lock\unlock different features, while others might have a regionally\carrier optimized modem build, or both. But how to go figuring all that out...?
I'm keenly interested to try Samsung Pay when it rolls out here, but concerned that my model\build will prevent me from doing this.
Hello everyone...
I am transitioning away from iOS thanks to the Z Fold 2 after 13 years (on iOS since the 3GS) and one of the biggest concerns I have right now is whether the US version of the phone is compatible with NFC-F (FeliCa).
I have family in Japan and having used Suica alongside my phone and Apple Watch made all the difference in the world while there...
My question: I remember reading somewhere that the hardware on the Z Fold 2 is exactly the same everywhere... Considering there is no chance on Earth a manufacturer would release a flagship in Japan without FeliCa, my hope is that the US version will also be compatible with it.
Where can I find the list of specific SKUs (assuming Samsung has something similar to Apple)?
Thank you!
Samsung differentiates their products by market. Typically features are common within individual market groups (EG: Europe, Asia, U.S.). This year the radios are different in each phone with 5G bands varying by country. Instead of SKU's Samsung alters the model numbers. So there's no assurance that phones from one region will support all the radio bands and features from another region. Here's the Fold 2 page from the Samsung Japan site. There's probably a chat or phone number to call and they'd be able to answer your question.
