Hi well my one s's usb is borked. it will only charge with no data even in fast boot so my questions are.
1)I am running custom os with no chance to return to stock definitely warranty voided right?
2) how much will htc charge to repair this? I am told the most common fix is to replace motherboard.
Does it turn on? Hard to understand your first paragraph. Does or doesn't it charge?

HI it charges but nothing else no connection to pc and in fastboot it doesn't show fastboot usb. I think the term is usb soft brick, reflashing roms doesn't change it neither does flashing boot img.

funny thing is if I grep usb in dmesg I can see that plugging in is causing kernel commands to check state of plugged in cable but changes it directly to charging state

Hey, i was having trouble with a reoccurring issue with my nexus s: the search button would fire on it own making it almost impossible to use my phone. The nexus was rooted and had clockworkmod installed, so i went ahead and flashed a 2.3.4 version of gingerbread. after the flash was complete, the phone would not turn on whatsoever. not even a boot logo, the screen is just black. cannot even get it into recovery mode.
help would be much appreciated.

You have to be pretty unlucky to REALLY brick one of those, assuming you took the proper steps when first rooting it. Nandroid backup + EFS backup = almost bulletproof.

So you don't see any Google logo when you turn it on? Don't get any vibration either?
Could be the BGA failing. That's one of the most common physical problem for the Nexus S, with the power button failure and the softkeys starting to active like they were possessed.

No I'm unable to do anything, can't even get my computer to recognize the phone, I'm beggining to lose hope I feel like I've tried everything. No boot loader, no recovery, just a blank screen with no response whatsoever. I believe I may have flashed an incorrect rom and corrupter the boot loader or something along those lines, at least thats what
my friend believes
Thanks

So I bricked my phone...
I have searched around the other threads with bricked devices but none of them had that worked for me. I am rooted and unlocked so I cant flash a RUU.
I can get into bootloader, it says fastboot but when I try fastboot oem Lock or any other command it says waiting for device and doesnt seem to do anything. (I can see the bootloader screen and the red FASTBOOT sign on my phone)
I can get into my recovery (TWRP V.2.1.8.1) but my SD seems to have disappeared, it wont mount to phone and I can not see it on file manager. Which means no backups or ROMS to reinstall. It also will not mount to my PC in recovery.
Since fastboot isnt working I cant flash new boot recovery or relock bootloader. I can completely stuck
If there is a way with adb (never used it so would need more detailed instructions).
If i try boot into ROM it just shows splash then loops.

assuming you're using Windows. Is HTC sync running? If so kill it.
If you can get to boatloader, you should be able to see the phone in windows. It's kind of a failsafe.

You shouldn't need to, there was a post in s-off saying it could be ran from dload mode. From what I read.

I tried the pg1fs. sig check failure. As a matter of fact doing "fastboot flash aksldjflkadsfjdlsk pg1fs.img" causes the same error, so something is in the img that causes sig check or any flash attempt except recovery is sig checked. Fastbook oem refurbish puts out a lot of interesting text, then reboots into recovery and looks for something (doesn't say what).on sd card (I tried copying IMG's to internal and external sd, no luck). Interesting thing about refurb command is it seems particularly "excited" about the fact that we have super CID - run it yourself and see, no harm is done (data, etc.). one recovery boots you can screw around with volume and power keys to see the text.

Phone is officially dead.
RUU'ed and it completed install without problems but phone still boot loops
Which RUU did you run? Did you try running it again? Can you still boot into the bootloader? If so what does it say at the top?

I relocked boot loader and ran the AT&T 1.85 ruu
Basically I now have the phone booting up, but when sense loads I can do very little on it, like text or call. As soon as I try do something more like browse the web the phone freezes and reboots. The back get warm and won't turn on immediately. I want to say the second core is shorting which is why as soon as it clicks in it freezes. Or at least what my limited knowledge would suggest.
Guessing I'm done and will be using dumb phone for 6 months
The phone has a 1 year warranty call customer service and get a new one.
Doesn't the fact that I used htc dev unlock void that warranty? And I never got my phone from AT&T so they won't help obviously.
I thought that was the whole reason some people didn't want to use htc dev unlock because it voids that warranty and they won't help because the phone was rooted and boot loader unlocked? Has anyone tried to get a replacement from htc after unlocking?
You might void it says. Hardware defects are covered. AT&T covers the phone for 1 year regardless of where you bought it. Call them.

I doubt AT&T would help, I bought the phone out of contract from best buy they would be getting screwed. I'll try contact htc after 4th of July
They will help. They take care of phone warranty for you. You still pay for service . This warranty is part of why you pay them.
Okay so I have a problem . So i had the 2.20 firmware but rooted and unlocked BL but with s-on. Later on i flash roms until i stayed with urdroid jb rom.
After that i was debating on to try the method of getting s-off with a mac. I asked for helped in facepalm's s-off thread but now no one helped me..that sucks
Now i tryed to get s-off by myself with a mac but it went well until the point where adb does not reconnect at all after the "fastboot flash OneX.zip"
after that it just went to hell as where it did not reboot anymore and then i tried to reflash urdroids rom again with boot.img flashed in fastboot.
after that it stayed in bootloader and hung there forever. It does not even go to recovery mode anymore.Once it went to recovery but the sdcard does not mount at all..
Now i tried a ruu and relocked the BL again and i got a friends window pc to use the ruu..Now it works everything until It says checking HBOOT..thats where it freezes and restarts over and over again.
ANY HELP?? PLEASE RESPOND ASAP AS THIS IS A EMERGENCY AS I HAVE A MEETING TOMORROW MORNING>

ok thanks!
ok so my one x was running the latest AOKP rom then i decided i wanted to go back to stock for some stupid reason. so i flashed the RUU and all was fine.. then i updated it on the phone by going to software update, unaware that doing an OTA update would brick my phone if it was previously rooted (at least from what ive read)
so now my phone will not even power on, doesn't light up when plugged into charger. when i plug into computer it comes up as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
from what i understand, it can be unbricked, but only using JTAG. is that correct?
it is still under warranty so i took it into rogers and they are sending it for repair to Ontario (i am in vancouver)... what are the chances that they will know that i bricked it myself and end up just sending it back not fixed?
kinda sucks cause now i have no phone for "3-4 weeks"

Hsusb =. Brick
It's Qualcomm high speed usb dl mode. That only comes up on a brick or if u power on with volume up that puts phone in download mode. And I'd wouldn't recommend playing in that part of the phone at all.

i know its bricked for sure. basically i just want to know if there's a way they can tell exactly how it was bricked and/or if it was previously flashed. if it shows up on the computer there's gotta be some kinda way to communicate with it using other equipment right? i took a gamble hoping they won't notice and just repair or replace the phone LOL. :fingers-crossed:
I really don't think there's any way for them to tell. There are only two ways back from this kind of brick, having the motherboard replaced, and jtag repair. Either way I don't think it matters, the partitions are fried, so I highly doubt there is any way to tell how it happened.

Its been reported here and on AT&T forums, that the RUU and OTA have bricked completely stock One X's. Its not "common", but its happened.
Anything that updates hboot can potentially brick the phone, if the install doesn't go just right.
hate to resurrect an old thread, but just thought i'd update everyone and let them know rogers sent me a refurb phone that was in better condition than the phone i had sent in for repair .
so if anyone hard bricks their phone in the future like i did, if u have a warranty then they can't tell how it was bricked. if u don't have a warranty, u can get it JTAGGED, its the only way to fix it besides a complete mobo swap lol. :good:

One last thing I can think of is to go into Settings/Power and disable Fast Boot, I'm not sure if it'll be there though, I can't remember if that was introduced on 4.1 or 4.2.2. Otherwise I think the usb port on the device might be faulty.
