Bricked Nexus S - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i was having trouble with a reoccurring issue with my nexus s: the search button would fire on it own making it almost impossible to use my phone. The nexus was rooted and had clockworkmod installed, so i went ahead and flashed a 2.3.4 version of gingerbread. after the flash was complete, the phone would not turn on whatsoever. not even a boot logo, the screen is just black. cannot even get it into recovery mode.
help would be much appreciated.

are you able to boot it into bootloader (vol up + power button)?

Guys i gotta ask...i mean i flash rom soo many times that my phone is bound to get bricked some day...although nothing has happened till now(knock knock).is there any solution to a hard bricked device..?

kevin, thanks, im unable to turn the phone on whatsoever. not even able to get into the bootloader

Can you adb or fastboot it or is it completely gone?

You have to be pretty unlucky to REALLY brick one of those, assuming you took the proper steps when first rooting it. Nandroid backup + EFS backup = almost bulletproof.

So you don't see any Google logo when you turn it on? Don't get any vibration either?
Could be the BGA failing. That's one of the most common physical problem for the Nexus S, with the power button failure and the softkeys starting to active like they were possessed.

No I'm unable to do anything, can't even get my computer to recognize the phone, I'm beggining to lose hope I feel like I've tried everything. No boot loader, no recovery, just a blank screen with no response whatsoever. I believe I may have flashed an incorrect rom and corrupter the boot loader or something along those lines, at least thats what
my friend believes
Thanks

You're late.
It's been known for a long time that the only time you're hardbricked is when the phone shows NO signs of life at all. The phone-PC screen is just "forced" download mode.

It's not unbrickable. There's a reson I came up with the UnBrickable Mod for this device. It is totally possible to brick it with a bad bootloader flash.

Bricked HTC ONE X AT&T

I checked all the other bricked threads and none have the same problem as me.
My HTC ONE X will not boot and or charge. I cannot get access to the bootloader or recovery.
My HTC ONE X had it's bootloader unlocked via the rogers htc-dev method. I also installed clockwork recovery. It is rooted also but you prob figured that already...
I pulled a bonehead move by flashing the MIUI rom the international one x by changing the update script to flash onto my phone. After it flashed it looked like it worked. When I left recovery and shut the phone off it would not turn back on.
I called AT&T they said they will switch it for me when they get a shipment but I want to keep this phone because the boatloader is unlocked and they might patch the rogers method.
Thanks in advanced.
P.S. I know how to use adb and other tools such as RUU and they did not work.
Have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds to reset it? You should see the 3 lights below flashing.
Ouch.... Another loss for htc sales

you cant get to hboot? 0.o
First of all, you should be able to get to H-Boot by holding volume down when turning it on.
Second of all, this is why they lock the bootloader in the first place.

H-Boot key combo is not working.
I have been flashing roms since the samsung moment, I built and modified roms on my EVO and ported roms from other phones to the EVO. I always had recovery to fall back onto to get my phone booting again. Even when I had the Xperia Play that required a PC to boot recovery I was still able to get the phone to work. This phone is strange that is will not even turn onto H-boot/Bootloader.

Thank God the dude at AT&T cannot get into the bootloader also to see that is was tampered with so they are giving me a replacement.

Honestly, not trying to call you stupid or something, but did you really think it was going to run on this phone when it was meant for another one? The GPU and CPU are completely different...
Anyway, I'm glad AT&T is replacing it for you. Hopefully if someone else bricks the same way then they will be able to get a replacement as well.
so you are smart enough to use adb, an RUU, unlock your bootloader, root, flash roms.......but you aren't smart enough to see the hundreds of posts saying that the international roms don't work on our phones??

My EVO was unbrickable too, I flashed a rom that was designed for the international version. It only contained system and other basic rom stuff, nothing that was crazy.
No idea why you wouldn't be able to boot into recovery then. I hope all HTC handsets aren't like this..

Basically what's happened is your phone has lost the drivers for the chip set and needs them re-installed, as far as I'm aware, no-one has managed to find a way to do it.

Is it completely dead and unresponsive? Just flashing the wrong recovery shouldn't kill your phone. I've done it myself a couple of times by accident, and fixing it was just a matter of flashing the right one.
Sounds like you actually flashed the wrong rom. Doing that can kill your bootloader, which will put you in QHSUSB mode. There is a way out that's been discussed, but I can't find it at the moment. It involves pushing a new hboot onto your phone and I believe requires Linux.

just found out the one x international recovery flashes on the partition that on our phones is the boot loader partition. could be fixed inside of linux, but i didnt get into how.
I had the same problem with the QHSUSB Download it turns out my phone had a really drained battery so how I managed to fix it was had it plugged into my computer and let the lights flash until i got a solid amber light. after about 15 minutes, I turned it on and it worked fine!
on my tablet i pressed for a really long time the power button and then it started up
it enters almos allways in qualcomm download mode when the battery is depleated.

Might be a stupid question, but have you pulled the battery?
Be more specific.
VZW GALAXY S 3 4G LTE
Do YOUR homework first
How about reading all the threads about unbricking. It certainly seems you did not read all the threads about rooting the phone. Do that too.
Finally, and I know this is not that helpful. Don't screw with a new phone. Use it at least for a month to make sure there are no problems with it.
That being said, there is plenty of information about how to handle your problem here in xda. Read all that and try what has already been posted before asking people to solve your self inflicted problem.
BTW when you do ask for help specify exactly what you did, with what script. I.E. don't ask someone to solve your problem without you taking the time to be very specific about how you got there.
pull the battery and go into recovery or odin and fix it.

Skubacb - Don't be a douche buddy. If you do not have any thing to add then shut the **** up.
With that being said I have been rooting phones for years, never had an issue when I couldn't get the phone to at least go into recovery. The phone is dead. Battery was fully charged and I have done a battery pull. It is a Verizon G3. I have read the unbrick articles but none explain if the phone will not boot into recovery. If someone could could just point me in the correct direction I would greatly appreciate it.
How did you actually do the flash? Odin? Some other way? As noted, more details are needed.

I don't believe rom manager is supported for our phone yet. U need to flash straight from recovery. That said I'm sorry I'm not sure where u go from here.

If you can't get into either recovery , or download mode you maybe SOL. However I would take this to IRC and see if someone can help on there. #verizons3 channel.
If the phone is under warranty, one other alternate solution is to take it into a VZW store and say it won't start. Of course I'd only go that route if I couldn't get it going any other way. On the plus side, your could at least confirm that battery didn't die on you.

I'm gonna go with this one (possibly). Did you unlock the phone? Sorry, did you say it won't boot into anything? Download/Odin mode? Recovery? Anything at all when you do the vol up/down, home key, and power button?
Idk if this would help but I'd order a downloader jig off ebay for a couple dollars and use that to see if it'll boot to recovery

I went to turn on my Verizon SGS3 on this morning and nothing happened. I have not even rooted it yet. It was charged when I turned it off 5 minutes before that and even did a battery swap. Phone is completely dead. Will not turn on. I have had it since it first came out, so I called Verizon and they are over-nighting me a "like-new" one. I hope I don't hear more of these stories.

I had a similar issue. If you do the volume/home/power combo (try both volume buttons separately, i forgot which one worked) and hold them through the initial Samsung logo it should put you into download mode, where you can Odin back to stock. I used PureMotive's Unbrick method in the Dev section (I think) and it took all of 20 min. Just make sure to follow the directions carefully.

[Q] Phone won't boot after TWRP reboot

So...was testing some zips in recovery. Everything went fine, phone was still plugged into computer.
Then I hit "reboot system" instead of "reboot recovery" so I'm like *Ok, I'll just pull the battery and go into recovery from bootloader*.
Pulled battery, now phone wont start. Getting a red light when plugged into computer, nothing else though. Won't show up in adb, or as a device in Device Manager.
