[Q] Phone won't boot after TWRP reboot - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So...was testing some zips in recovery. Everything went fine, phone was still plugged into computer.
Then I hit "reboot system" instead of "reboot recovery" so I'm like *Ok, I'll just pull the battery and go into recovery from bootloader*.
Pulled battery, now phone wont start. Getting a red light when plugged into computer, nothing else though. Won't show up in adb, or as a device in Device Manager.
Help?

When that happened on my evo lte it was a soft brick.
Have you tried connecting the device to a Linux machine and doing lsusb in terminal?

No. We did the same thing. Instead of flashing to /dev/block/mmcblk0p21, we flashed to /dev/block/mmcblk0p18, which is the bootloader...

Yeah. I was being dumb and mixed my files for the S3 with my shift files...the S3s rexovery partition is mmcblk0p18, but on our phone thats the bootloader....so game over.

Try an ruu , I flashed a evo 3d ROM on my hero by accident then it messed it up bad so then I used ruu and it worked. Now I'm not exactly sure if it fixes boot loader , its been so long because I'm so used to LGs cab restore where it relocks the bootloader

This is my first Android phone so I'm not sure what I'm looking at...
My G2X was running Faux's AOSP Rom version 1.2.2. It was great until today when my phone kept crashing/freezing.
I decided to uninstall PimpmyCpu because I don't really know how to use it and that is the only wildcard that was on my phone. I uninstalled and on the reboot my phone froze during the multi-colored boot animation.
I pulled off the cover and the battery. Powered on the phone and I got this screen.
What does this mean? I have never seen it before?
I have ClockWork Recovery and ROM Manager installed, but I have never seen this before...ideas?
Should I just pull the battery and reboot to recovery? Will I kill my phone?
Was the phone charging when you saw this. Did you have the volume buttons pressed when you pulled the battery?
G2x with CM7 and faux .18 kernel. [email protected] 5091 quadrant.
The phone was not charging but I might have had the volume buttons down. Why?
It means you got the Gingerbread update!!!!!!
Just kidding. Reboot to recovery and you'll be fine, this has happened to me before.

That's the screen you get to when you NVflash recovery. I believe it's a firmware update screen or some such nonsense.
You can get there by pulling the battery, plugging into a computer, and the holding volume + and - while powering on.
I had this screen displayed in my cell phone..
I took the battery off and rebooted my cell phone... Now I have been sitting on the LG logo for over 20 minutes... It doesn't start, nor does it do anything..
Someone help please?

Bricked Nexus S

Hey, i was having trouble with a reoccurring issue with my nexus s: the search button would fire on it own making it almost impossible to use my phone. The nexus was rooted and had clockworkmod installed, so i went ahead and flashed a 2.3.4 version of gingerbread. after the flash was complete, the phone would not turn on whatsoever. not even a boot logo, the screen is just black. cannot even get it into recovery mode.
help would be much appreciated.

are you able to boot it into bootloader (vol up + power button)?
Guys i gotta ask...i mean i flash rom soo many times that my phone is bound to get bricked some day...although nothing has happened till now(knock knock).is there any solution to a hard bricked device..?
kevin, thanks, im unable to turn the phone on whatsoever. not even able to get into the bootloader
Can you adb or fastboot it or is it completely gone?

You have to be pretty unlucky to REALLY brick one of those, assuming you took the proper steps when first rooting it. Nandroid backup + EFS backup = almost bulletproof.

So you don't see any Google logo when you turn it on? Don't get any vibration either?
Could be the BGA failing. That's one of the most common physical problem for the Nexus S, with the power button failure and the softkeys starting to active like they were possessed.

No I'm unable to do anything, can't even get my computer to recognize the phone, I'm beggining to lose hope I feel like I've tried everything. No boot loader, no recovery, just a blank screen with no response whatsoever. I believe I may have flashed an incorrect rom and corrupter the boot loader or something along those lines, at least thats what
my friend believes

Ok I am pretty busy this weekend, how ever below is a few files for you guys. I know some doesn't belong here but since I nabbed them I figured I would throw them in the post also. Now since I am not familiar with the process of flash recovery with the htc unlock. If someone would be kind enough to post the commands, it would save me some time. How ever be warned this does not have the wimax stuff in it. As it has been a good while since I played with a shift 4g. In turn I almost forgot all about the wimax stuff.
Any way here goes.
Stock Recovery: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/Kindom_Stock.img
Cwm Recovery ( Not sure of the version right off but synced sometime last week): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/kingdom-testing_recovery.img
Stock Radio (Not sure of version, but is from the ruu for you guys): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/radio.img
Then for kicks h-boot 1.22:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/hboot_1.22.0000.img
I have no idea if it will work, but don't see why it won't at least boot. Since I don't know what issues you guys had to begin with. Not sure what the recovery may have issue wise. Let me know if it boots and if keys are mapped correct. Functions you can test though be warned to do so at your own risk.

It's been known for a long time that the only time you're hardbricked is when the phone shows NO signs of life at all. The phone-PC screen is just "forced" download mode.

I went to flash some things...and now it's stuck in the qualcomm download mode? How the hell do I get out of it??
You can't, you're screwed
I had this on my old Sensation, it stands for Qualcomm High Speed USB
Basically what's happened is your phone has lost the drivers for the chip set and needs them re-installed, as far as I'm aware, no-one has managed to find a way to do it.
Hope its still under warranty mate, I think its the only way you'll get it sorted

Is it completely dead and unresponsive? Just flashing the wrong recovery shouldn't kill your phone. I've done it myself a couple of times by accident, and fixing it was just a matter of flashing the right one.
Sounds like you actually flashed the wrong rom. Doing that can kill your bootloader, which will put you in QHSUSB mode. There is a way out that's been discussed, but I can't find it at the moment. It involves pushing a new hboot onto your phone and I believe requires Linux.

it wasnt a rom. it was definetly the clockwork recovery in rom manager. it said gsm next to htc one x and its a new one so i was stupid enough to flash it. i did a reboot and it was dead. i already talk to at&t about it and there sending me a new one.

That's interesting, because I did (almost) the same thing. When I first unlocked my HOX, I installed ROM Manager and accidentally flashed the Samsung GSII recovery. I was able to fix it just by going back to bootloader and adb flashing the correct version.

just found out the one x international recovery flashes on the partition that on our phones is the boot loader partition. could be fixed inside of linux, but i didnt get into how.
I had the same problem with the QHSUSB Download it turns out my phone had a really drained battery so how I managed to fix it was had it plugged into my computer and let the lights flash until i got a solid amber light. after about 15 minutes, I turned it on and it worked fine!
on my tablet i pressed for a really long time the power button and then it started up
it enters almos allways in qualcomm download mode when the battery is depleated.
