A New arcade emulator (Final Burn Alpha Port) for Android. The Dev has posted this in the main XDA apps section (Full Version For FREE) but if people missed it i wanted to bring it to your attention. Works fine with Xperia Play and controls. Its already mapped if just click on the Joystick icon in-game and select hardware keys and turn off the on-screen pad. Been able to play loads of sweet games like metal slug 5, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future and Progear . Hopefully this will be supported better then Tiger Mame.

Finaly Great News man!
Thanks for sharing.

FBA is a great emulator so I'll test this port. Thanks for sharing this info.

hi guys, i want to know how comes on mine, it didnt read any cps3 roms. They are img files, along with a ccd and sub file, where do I put these files?

Isn't Tiger Arcade FBA as well? All the roms I kept from my Windows Mobile FBA emulator work on it. If this is the case is there anything that this emulator does better? Thanks!

Tiger's was a Mame emulator. This is the same sort of thing (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) but final burn is said to be faster with some games, better then Mame on lower end device's and has a good support. Really its down to your choice what one you use. The only difference with this and TigerMame as an Android emu is this is still in development, Plays more CPS3 titles, UI is much better and other small details really.

This emu only reads games from arcade machine boards not CD img's. You will find them on Google/Web in Zip format (Don't Unzip or rename. The emulator reads them like this). No way else of acquiring them unless you carry around a 5-6ft Arcade Machine's with you

Really? Tiger Arcade even thanks the FBA team in the credits and many state that it is in fact a port of FBA. Like I said my FBA romset from windows mobile 6.5 work perfectly on Tiger Arcade and the FBA team even states in their history "FB Alpha supports games on Capcom CPS-1 and CPS-2 hardware, SNK Neo-Geo hardware, Toaplan hardware, Cave hardware" which is the exact same as the supported list for Tiger Arcade. I'm not trying to be argumentative but I'd love to hear from someone else familiar with the two emulators to see if they also believe it is the same emulator. And even still, is this coded better than Tiger Arcade and which CPS3 games does it support over Tiger (since I haven't had an issue in any) because if so I'll check it out but if it has a way to go and supports the same rom-set I'll pass.

Never knew till checked it out fully. Tiger is based on FBA even though he states it as mame just looked at his source on github https://github.com/tigerking/arcade/blob/master/license.txt .Still this should be better due to UI and later FBA code then tiger used over a year ago with his. Plus the fact that it's still being developed and is free (tigerMAME) you have to pay to save as I can remember. This also will run on later Android OS as I know his emulator has issues on ICS and Jellybean (but does not really affect play users). Sorry for the miss information

He left out a line of code. He will add in next version. But for some reason just press the set buttons then press use hardware keys to take off on-screen ones. For some reason the play is already mapped. Fully works on mine with all buttons mapped that way.

Yeah, the controllers are fully mapped but I would like to arrange them... Neogeo and CPS have differents button order.
Thanks for your response, I'll be wait for the next update.

This emulator is really good. Already impressive for an early/incomplete release.
What i notice:
-If you did not download the 100MB package, it will always ask you to do it
-Buttons are set. I tried to edit the xml file in the data/data folder (the format looks exactly like neodroid), but it did not work. I want to change it because I am very used to playstation controls with like MvC for example.
-I sometimes experience force close if i end the emulation (does not matter much)
-Cannot overwrite a saved state. Is this how it really works?

Ahhh, I didn't know it was free and based off a newer version. I'll have to keep an eye on this then. I was actually really let down when I got my Xperia Play and certain FBA games I was used to playing on my Dash 3g actually ran slower despite the Xperia Play's incredible processing superiority compared to the D3. I hope we see great things out of this because if the winmo version of FBA is any benchmark we should easily see full speed with sound on in most games whereas I currently play them all without sound.

GREAT
i hope can play golden ax

Hello!
What settings (keys) that you guys use this emulator? Could you pass me please, I am not getting set here
thank you

could the dev please add autofire option in the control options menu (fba on all other devices has this)
its a real chore rapidly stabbing away on physical buttons, not to mention bad for the hardware,
and rapid stabbing of the fire button on touchscreen controls is even worse, whole device shakes, etc.
cheers

thanks for making afba!
but would you let me know how to get into the software setting?
you know like, credits life difficulty some sort of.
because i'm playing dodonpachi dai-ou-jou.
but, it's default setting is easy difficulty with 'discontinue' on!
so i tried service on the menu but, it doesn't work.

I recommend FBA4DROID 1.65, is similar aFBA. :good:

[Proof of concept] Sega Saturn emulator

I just wanted to point out that a sega saturn emulator for android is in development but in its current state it is VERY slow and can only currently load the bios, however it does boot and it does accept d-pad input.
Update: Can now play games and now works much faster
Also I am not the author of this emulator before you start asking.
Thanks to paulscode for building the apk I am using.

Here are instructions on how to create a build on ubuntu
* you have CMake installed (apt-get install cmake)
* you have the Android sdk installed
* you have the Android ndk installed and a standalone toolchain (see STANDALONE-TOOLCHAIN.html in the ndk documentation)
Update your PATH environment variable with :
* path the standalone toochain "bin" directory
* path to the ndk top directory
* path to the sdk "tools" directory
so... something like that:
# export PATH="$PATHath/to/your/toolchain/binath/to/your/ndkath/to/your/sdk/tools"
then create a new directory and fetch the sources:
# mkdir yabause-android && cd yabause-android
# svn co https://yabause.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/yabause/trunk/yabause
At this step, you'll need to edit sources as the sysroot is hardcoded. In src/android/android.cmake, update the line:
SET(CMAKE_FIND_ROOT_PATH /home/guillaume/projects/android/toolchain/sysroot/usr/)
to point to your standalone toolchain (something like path/to/your/toolchain/sysroot/usr/ )
# mkdir build && cd build
# cmake ../yabause -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=../yabause/src/android/android.cmake -DYAB_PORTS=android
# make

Update!
The emulator is now able to use the dynamic so it has a huge speed boost.
Most games still run slow but one of the testers on paulscode found a game which runs full speed.
Heres the video he made:
This is compareable to N64/PS1 right? So no problems like hardware s not strong enough?

saturn does require a bit more power than N64 and PS1 but there are still a lot of optimisations that can be done to make this faster. This is a very very early port, absolutely nothing has been optimised yet.

Saturn is a dual core console. I remember it was a headache to emulate on Linux, Yabause was pretty much the only option and it wasn't that great. I hope Paul and team can bring more awesome sauce to the Xperia Play!

Ah that might be why then, emulating two cores with 1 will take heck of a lot of power but I think we could see this reach near full speed in the future... or at least better speeds than the DS emulators haha.
I used yabause on the wii and psp and on those platforms it ran very slow. Keep in mind that the psp and wii can emulate PS1 and N64 very well.
Thanks for this news. have tried pauls concept app, its nice to see other things from psx and n64 being worked on.
ps. i saw in one of your posts that you got an app to record your screen could you please let me know what its called thanks alot.

The app is called screencast, its great for recording normal apps but it will slow down your phone while its running so it will make n64 and PS1 games lag, other emulators should run with minimal lag.
Def some Saturn games I'd love to play on here. Good luck!

As much as I promote giving Xperia PLAY's games a shot over emulating stuff from decades ago, having NiGHTS into Dreams mobile would put the sex in SEXplay.
...oh, and having a portable means of playing Shining Force III that doesn't whittle away my desire to play the game in setup frustration would be grand.

hmm... might be worthwhile on the xplay 2, dont really see it getting too far on current gen hw. then again we have n64, as dodgy as all the emulators for that are unfortunately..

The dynarec is there but it doesn't seem to be linked up yet, also its slow for the reasons I stated in the youtube vid.

GBC.EMU (replace your gameboy emulator with this!)

Another fantastic emulator from Robert Broglia who has given us wonderful emulation (for the first time) of the Neo Geo Pocket and Turbografx 16, this time he has taken on one of the Market's staples - Gameboy.
I know there are many Gameboy emulators out there but this one really sets itself out from the pack by giving users (for the first time on Android) the ability the GBC had to add colour to original Gameboy games! You can even choose which of the set pallettes you would like a game to have, possibly even matching it better to the correct colours than the original Gameboy did!
This is along with all the Xperia Play support (and those other weird addons) that you would expect with the standard features of his other excellent emulators.
This one is a definite 10/10 and a MUST NOT MISS for all Xperia Play owners. Since downloading this I have not touched GBCoid, the added colour breathes life into the Game Boy library and you find yourself enthusiastically playing through games you played for a little bit than left with the colour options.
The emulator runs great, you can also map Save state to 'volume up' to allow it to be within easy reach!
Another interesting thing is saves from GBCoid seem to load here! (not sure if this is just for some games though)
This thread would be a good place to suggest the best pallette for games I think - perhaps we can turn the OP into a definitive list? As you guys post the right fit for games I will add them to the OP.
Adventure Island - Pastel
Mario Land 3: Wario Land - Yellow
Here is an example of original gameboy games with colour added by this emulator:
Adventure Island/Wario with the choices above look much better than Pokemon, which seems as if Pastel may be the correct colour choice. Zelda looks great with all the colours seemingly spot on!

I've already replaced all my oids with .emus, and have been recommending that everyone do the same.
My only regret is that I can't kill off all my -oids until Broglia makes a GBA.emu, SNES.emu and GG.emu
Well, his Snes.emu is actually SNES9x ex plus alpha, and is freely downloaded on his website. Check it out, as it is imho one of the better SNES emulators out there. At least it plays Star Ocean like a boss, where others choke hard.
+1 for SNES9x.

Im actually pretty shocked TLR didn't know about it, it was on the Market for a while before being removed because of licence complaints from others (despite fully conforming with the requirements that im aware of) and has always been amazing.
As to why you would use these emulators over the ~oid ones, 2 big reasons; They are more compatible and run better, and the second being linear filtering... that **** plagues pretty much every emulator on the market and all the other rip-off emulators you see around, some of them do have the ability to turn it off, but at the same time are hampered by ads, poor speed, or a crappy interface.
Robert Brogalia is responsive and helpful in my limited interactions with him, for an emulator he provided, for free, without ads he added changes to snes9x and by extension the rest of his emulators at the time so that I could use the volume rocker on my Milestone as an L trigger as well as other suggestions.
They are to my knowledge the best emulators available for their respective systems on the android platform, they are simple and do their job well, and that is why you pay that small entry fee IMO. Apologies for the rant... Xp

Well... that's because I don't really pay much attention to emulators.
I'm more of the opinion that Xperia Play is great without having to piggyback off of SNES, GBA, NES, PSX, Genesis and such (hence why I've flat-out refused to add a "emulators" section to XperiaPlayGamer.net despite the requests)... I'll get a bit nostalgic every blue moon and relive something I grew up with for a couple minutes... but by far and large, my biggest appeal in the Xperia Play is playing the Xperia Play Optimized games that are new, fresh, current and actually take advantage of the hardware... so yeah, I won't be too knowledge-rich when it comes to emulation (FTR, I was very late to ditch my -oids for .emus too).
I think I like supporting the devs and having the best of the best emus more than actually using them
If you are in the UK the magazine Retro Gamer is a fantastic accompaniment to the Play

Hope Robert will implement 1.52 core at some point because 1.43 is pretty fast but makes the snes tune sound wrong.
There's some debate as to which SNES emulators are the best. Snes9x Ex and Snesdroid (just found about this one and not yet tested on our phone) are derivatives of Snes9x. Snes9x Ex is based on 1.43, whereas Snesdroid is based on 1.52. What this means is that 9x Ex supposedly runs faster, while Snesdroid has generally greater audio quality and compatibility,
Market link
This port is not going to run fast like other Android ports no older hardware. SNES9x 1.52 has vastly improved audio compared to what all other Android ports use which is SNES9x 1.43. SNES9x 1.52 also has tons of minor bug fixes and the higher compatibility. Works fine with Xperia Play controls right off the bat.

The OP describes the difference between the Game Boy emulators
while i think GBC.emu (and the rest of the .emu series) is probably the best emulators out on android, and this is going to sound REALLY nit-picky, but i can't help but miss the cheat function that were in the -oid emulators
i know NES.emu recently added CHT file support but will the rest of the others get any cheat options soon? just wondering

It's made by Robert ****in Broglia!!!! That's what makes it so much better.
I jest, I jest... I don't actually have this one yet, but I do have all of Broglia's other emulators, and I can tell you that this dude's serious about quality assurance... to a level that most other emulator devs haven't been.
Can someone who has this test the public domain GBA homebrew game Wonkie Guy? It's not even a full game, yet it's been one of my favorites for near a decade... and more importantly, every other GBA emulator I've tried curled up in fetal position and started bawling every time I tried to load it.
Brilliant. I bought his GBC and NGP emulators and they both worked flawlessly, so going to buy this to replace Gameboid. Top notch :good:
Might sound stupid but can you map the dpad to the touchpads in this emulator? - Thanks
Gameboid works good for me but my biggest problem is the graphics look blurry from the upscaling. I would buy this emulator if there is a setting which adds filters to make the games look "better"
I hate to say it but I think people should wait before buying this one. Having bought and now had a chance to test it, I consider the performance of it to be much poorer than Gameboid.
Noticeable on-screen judder during playback with frameskip enabled and slows to a crawl when frameskip is disabled. Sound isn't much better. One can only hope that this gets fixed and much improved with further updates.
The reason I bought this emulator is because all the emulators by this developer allow you to turn off the blurry graphics in the settings, unlike Gameboid and other emulators.
The emulator however is a bit slower but at 1.6GHz all games I tried were full speed to me.
Hope FPse does this (touchpad) in the future, will definitely get this app.

Question?
Does it support Netplay or emulated cable link? for example Mario Kart or Pokemon games
Games like Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Metroid Zero Mission run laggy in GBA.emu.
In gameboid doesn't happen.
Went ahead and bit the bullet.
It plays the games that failed to load on Gameboid. I am satisfied

Seeing as none of his other emulators have cheat capability (if that is incorrect plz correct me) on Android OR iOS I doubt it. And I have both versions (Xperia Play and iOS {5.1.1 Jailbroken on iPhone 4S}) and often sound is a problem in some games like Sonic Advance 3 where all you hear is the music and nothing else (like jumping noises, or other collision noises) and the sound is crap without frame skip to 1.

After a 4 years hiatus, it is finally time for some news about ePSXe's development.
ePSXe 1.8.0 is almost finished and is currently in testing phase. If all goes well we expect to release it in a few weeks. This version will include compressed iso support (PBP), SBI support (such as used by redump.org), updates for multitap, disc change and spu and of course a lot of compatibility related fixes.
We were thinking of different ways to get funds for the development of ePSXe and finally decided to develop an Android port. If you want to support the ePSXe development please buy the Android port in the Google Play Market. It contains the ePSXe core, the internal SPU plugin, a new experimental internal soft GPU plugin and a new 2 players mode for tablets.
We would like to give our thanks to Gladiator, from www.psxdatacenter.com, for the thousands of tests he has done in the last 4 years. Without his help creating a version with high compatibility would have been almost impossible. Many thanks to you and your brother . We would also want to give our thanks to Shalma who worked on ePSXe Shark, several plugins and plugins "repairs series". He did a wonderful job, some would even consider it "magic", finding then fixing numerous bugs and deserves our most sincere thanks and admiration.
Finally we want to thank you the ePSXe users for supporting our 12 years old child "ePSXe"
We have created a twitter account "epsxeteam", where we expect your impressions about the emulator. Please don't use this account to request support and instead use ngemu.com forums.
Regards,
ePSXe Team.

Whoa Great news ePSXe was soo good on PC. Can't wait for xperia play support.
Someone tested with final fantasy 9 ??
Does anyone know, how parasite eve 2 runs? Is it possible to get to dryfield? With fpse it doesn't load after aya leave the building

support Xperia Play joystick now
1.7.6 support Xperia Play joystick now.
Environment music and sound are great than FPSE.
But stage change in game is small lag than FPSE.
Anyone I like ePSXe, ePSXe shows perfect experience for game playing.
Does it support touchpads? This could be a fantastic when they implent touchpads support!

Speedwise it runs perfectly, but CDDA sounds are a bit buggy. But for now, it's looks promising and could turn out to be better than FPSe.
This is a really cool idea!
Not sure how well it would work in real life though
It's good to have an alternative to fpse since psx4droid didn't work on GB 2.3.4
I just bought the app to give it a whirl. So far Crash bandicoot 2 runs sweet as a nut. Testing chrono cross right now which also seems pretty spot on!
There are a few little audio niggles but I can live with that.
Also latest version has button mapping!
For people who are intrested i'm using the AOKP version of ICS. I haven't over clocked my CPU either
The hardware buttons work fine, also it's possible to map volume buttons as R2 and L2.
Unlike FPSe you can use and map the circle button normally (IMO).
Also the emulator has preview screenshots in Load State menu. :good:
The bad part: The game doesn't pause when you press the Menu button
Soul Reaver: The game flashes when you play it.

In Soul Reaver the FMV's are blinker.

I have FPse installed and already map the volume buttons as R2 and L2. I also have no problem mapping the circle button. Though I've read people moaning about it, is that a problem related to ICS rom or something?

in FPSe the R1 and R2 buttons work fine, my only problem is the circle. I uninstalled it and reconfigure it and don't solve.
ePSXe work fine with the HW buttons and Castlevania SOTN and Thread of Fate.

I'm aware of what you said the problem was. My question was, is it a general problem or one related to ICS? since I've had no such problem with GB.

I've Jelly2Bean 2.3.4 rom. But not problem, I put my trust in this emulator.
What about the 2 player mode? it sounds awesome.

Very good emulator. Graphics aren't anything to write home about at the minute, but it's super reliable. Suikoden 1, which has sound skip on FPSE and native emulator, plays perfectly sound and all. All the 3D Final Fantasys too.
Haven't found a game that it doesn't play perfectly yet.
This works really well tried marvel vs capcom mgs vr missions dino crisis and star wars episode one

Working great on Samsung Galaxy SIII (USA Verizon SCH-I535 ICS 4.0.4), besides aforementioned audio hiccups.
Is there a way to use the analog sticks from my bluetooth gamepad?
This sounds good.
FPSE is good, but updates seem to make some games work better and some worse. Plus, I hate the way you have to mess with loads of options for each game. Was gutted when my complete Tekken 3 save went missing too.
Think I'll give this a go.

[PORT] Return to Castle Wolfenstein

ORIGINAL RUSSIAN FORUM THREAD
The developer should be adding Xperia Play Controls but as its an early Beta (Would not of thought it by the quality) is has basic options in the app (game in full of course) you can use USB controllers if know your input event (e.g dev/input/event?). I have tried mapping the buttons on Xperia Play the D-pad works and you can map Cross. If anyone finds a better way of mapping to play please post your findings.
Short Description:
The legendary game id Software on the Quake III engine is now on Android. Description: Return to Castle Wolfenstein - PC game, first person shooter, developed by id Software, Gray Matter Interactive, Nerve Software and published by Activision November 20, 2001 exclusively for personal computers running operating systems Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS. player will have to go in the shoes of Agent-2 from the organization Office of Secret Actions (OSA) named William "BJ" Blazkovich, who was the protagonist of Wolfenstein 3D . by this port - I, native-part of the port based on kwaak3, and JNI + Java part I rewrote again, because I could not live with krivosti kwaak3 (though maybe I'm kind of surpassed it in terms of the curvature). As you know, Return to Castle Wolfenstein under GPL license, source code will be available after publication on Google Play. However, until such time as I am satisfied with the rating on Google Play, I'll be posting the source code only on price support (under license), and the Russian Post ... you get the idea. On HTC One X port is well tolerated (there was only one lag of up to 15 FPS for the whole game) and I was playing on the phone to start the game, you must throw the Main folder from the folder with the game for PC / sdcard/rtcw4a / main I hope you bought the original game (it's worth it), and if so, do not forget to patch to the latest version. Or buy a game on Steam as I am. Please do not embed in my post direct links to pirated versions of the game, it's not good. But links to my posts with links - no problem. All suggestions please leave exclusively here, drugs should not be written, the box is clogged.

Hell yeah ......has any one tried using gamekeyboard on this yet? Only thing is that the game, except for the menu, is all distorted across the screen.
unfortunately, i cant start a game...due to how distorted the game gets i cant tell what is going on ....the only thing that actually woks is the main menu lol
It works perfectly on my nook color though lol....maybe I can find a way to use my play as a controller haah...in combination with gamekeyboard I could use the hardware keys....now to just find an app that let's me so this

I tried this on a 7" generic tablet and it works very smooth, control is a lot better if you set "Always run" to OFF, and bump the mouse sensitivity to your liking.
Still, I tried using a mouse through OTG(I checked "Hide onscreen buttons and enable mouse" option before starting the game), and I can see the Android mouse cursor in-game, but I cannot use it to click on "Play", "Options", etc.
If I swipe my finger across the screen I can move the in-game mouse cursor(different than the Android one), but I cannot select anything, as the onscreen buttons are disabled...
is there a way to set in English, whe i press button i can't shot with the gun for example can you help me

Where did you get the Original game (Sd Data) from? Sounds like you need to delete Language Pak files which are not English. The app is complete English menus in app and in game for me with my version from Steam.
files which are to be put in the folder (rtcw4a)??
I installed the game on my pc and directory (Program Files) I have the folder: Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
And there in a lot of files that weigh a total of 627 MB.
Which of all I have to put those files?

The same guys from 4pda.ru are porting it. On youtube there must be a prealpha video. Oh and by the way found yesterday in the Internet a apk which is about 50mb. Its a little piece of the game for just showing the gameplay where you can walk around and look at mutants and so on. Must say it looks perfect, smooth as butter( but only touch atm) Believe its called projectS.T.A.L.K.E.R.
So from what i saw this absolutely will be a hit.
Well with the final beta apk the game works fully now. Yay. Now to make a gamekeyboard layout for it. I'll let you know once its ready.
