[MOD][HOWTO] Change LCD Density - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Another pull of a cached version from Google. More info can be found in the replies to the original thread.
Doing this mod or quick set up is known on many devices. I decided to bring it over here for some people that aren't too familiar with it.
Lowering the dpi on your device increases the screen quality and also allows you to fit more icons on your homescreen and app drawer.
By default our devices is 220dpi
I lowered mine to 180dpi
May play around with it some more but I like the quality I have now. I'm using GoLauncherEX which allows you to resize widgets. So it plays well together.
I used the old fashion way by going through the build.prop with rootexplorer
System/build.prop and edited the LCD DENSITY line to my preferred #, pick save&exit and pulled my battery
If you would like to take a more easy approach you can download one of the apps in the play store and follow those directions.
If you have a problem with your apps not showing up in the Play Store, follow the instructions here. Downloads in the second post.
Here are a couple screenshots of what I'm referring to. If you have any questions feel free.
**Most Importantly**
LOWERING THE DPI TOO LOW WILL CONFLICT SOME APPS IN THE PLAYSTORE AS WELL AS THE STOCK DIALER.

Some Apps that support DPI change (BE CAUTIOUS USING THESE)

Why don't you just use a launcher that allows you alter how many icons are in the desktop and the drawer?
I also fail to see how lowering your DPI increases screen quality. I mean, if I lower the amount of chocolate chips in my cookies, that makes them inferior.

[Q]How do I set wallpapers without croping?

I have this wallpaper that I found somewhere:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I want it to be my wallpaper just like it looks, but when I set it the phone forces me to crop it and I wind up with this:
How can I get the full image as a background so that its not zoomed in or cropped?
I was wondering the same thing ... I seems that you can't unless you put your wallpaper in the same destination the default ones are located which will make it like a stock one ....
Waiting for more experienced opinion ...
Hey man. I know what you mean it can be annoying. The reason why it asks you to crop is because of your phone's resolution or whatever, it can only show so much. What you could try is "PicSPEED Wallpapers" from the market. Download it. Then when you set a wallpaper (from your gallery) a new option to custom crop the iage will appear and you can freely manipulate what is shown as the wallapaper

no that's not correct....
I have the stock GB wallpapers and stil have to crop them when set as wallpapers...
Most wallpapers apps are crap low quality stuff...Plus tons of crap adds...
It asks you to crop because it slides the image over a little while changing home screens (for a static wallpaper). I don't believe there is a setting in the stock launcher to change that. What you generally want is a square, 800px tall and 800px wide, with the image you want in the middle. Then you enlarge the crop to the entire image, and voila.
I use "wallpaper set and save"
On market sets wallpaper without quality lose
Edit nvrmind stretches image

Transparent browser

I've tried many different browsers with greyscale, inverting, and night modes. But this browser is the first I've ever seen do a clear transparent version before. I've checked all my websites and they all look amazing.
If you like blacked out and clear apps I suggest you check it out.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.UCMobile.intl
Here is how I make mine look blacked out.
1: get a completely black image, picture, or screenshot.
2: in the browsers theme section set the image you want as the wallpaper.
3: set the background to transparent

Brilliant find, really. Thank you for the tip!
Thanks for the tip.
I've done limited testing so far (did not even figure out how to set trans bg yet...), but while first looking into this on the market, I noticed that there was a mini UC Browser as well. I ended up spending more time on it than their full one.
A couple observations on Mini:
- good UI, but I do have to press my menu soft button twice every time in order to get to the opened tabs icon...;
-less options but also less "clogware" (or just stuff I don't need really);
- night mode a bit "lightish" in shade, but very good since it doesn't affect (invert) pics as Lightning (a similar) browser would;
- use fewer processes/services and about 5 times less RAM than the full version (and app itself is 10x smaller);
- could find a setting to easily switch between desktop/mobile and it seems like page zooming is not really possible... But layout seems always pretty good;
- nice touches like: top/bottom quick btns, bw saving/compression, 3 file downloads at once, auto-reconnect/resume dl (although this is marketing talk cause some site do not allow pause or resume...);
- more to discover..
And hopefully, we'll be able to theme bgs and text colors a little... I'll look into this tomorrow; can't wait... hehe!
Thx again, cheers!
Does UC support flash by now ? Did one of you try UC sync available for chrome desktop to sync tabs .... ?
That's great I love this one

Native DPI Scaling

Found this post in the regular Verizon S7 section thanks to @jayochs. Cool little hidden feature and seems to work great so far. This will change the DPI from 640(stock) to about 540dpi. I'll show a few examples below, but the article will show even more and tell you how to do it.
Check out the XDA article located here :

Yeah I think it gives the phone a lot cleaner look. But that's just my opinion.

I am used to altering DPI with root access, so this find was a godsend.
You can alter DPI through ADB without root access, btw.
This is good though. Could go lower though. I have text size at the lowest settings and turned this on. The notification bar is still a little too big.
Not sure if its worth screwing with though
I did this with Nova Launcher and I really like it. Definitely helping the S7 edge grow on me a little more.
I did this with Nova launcher as well but it didn't seem to stick for the touch wiz launcher. Everything else is condensed

I really wish they had a Super Condensed mode. I'd like to run it around 500.
I do like having this to be able to quickly (with one reboot) toggle back to a density that will allow Samsung Pay to work.
After doing this with Nova Launcher I noticed that I don't have smooth scrolling when I hit the recents button
Just FYI to those who don't know... you can change your DPI through ADB without root.
I feel the condensed mode and already low stock DPI is enough.
The 7 Edge has 5.5" @ 640 DPI
The LG G4 has 5.5" @ 640 DPI
The Note 5 has 5.7" @ 540 DPI
Add condensed mode and its smaller. So I am happy with the stock/condensed values.
Doing this also kills android pay which socks, I want to reduce DPI but still use android pay
I switched to condensed DPI and Android Pay is working for me still.
Edit: Nevermind. Tried adding a card to it and says nope.. :\
HBO GO working for anyone else after changing dpi?

BIG Launcher for Adult Apps v3.5.0

With this utility app, older users will not have a headache because of the small application icons and complicated controls.

Big Launcher is an application designed to support older people to use smart phones more easily. Big Launcher includes an interface with icons and large text to help older people can see easily. In addition, you can pin contacts and applications to the home screen to make it easier for older people to use quickly, without having to perform many operations. Young children can also use the phone more easily thanks to this simple interface.
The main reason people have trouble with touch screens is that app icons are too small for their hands or eyesight. So, if you can't help your grandparents touch the right app to open, you can install BIG Launcher to make these icons bigger and easier to use by showing only the mechanical options. copy.
Main function
Simple interface with icons and large text suitable for older people to use
Simple installation, with no lock function for editing
Support Weather Widget for your convenience to keep track of current temperature and weather
Support clock widget with big text
Note
Must have Internet used to download weather data
GPS location: used to get the weather at that location
Read contacts: to get contact list attached to the home screen
Read write memory: to save data

Android 11 wallpaper bug/'feature'

I was holding off on updating, after getting the Android 11 notification a few days ago in the UK, as I couldn't see much user feedback on One Hyper upgraded to Android 11. But I updated it today and while it seems to be working OK (with seemingly no loss in general performance), I did immediately notice a bug/feature on wallpapers.
It doesn't matter which app you use to apply a wallpaper, the system seems to take over and crop the image. When you pull down the notifications bar it zooms back out to the original 1:1 wallpaper.

Forgive the quality of the above gif, I didn't want to overload the thread with a massive image. But you get the idea.
I did a Google search and it seems to be a common issue, at least on some Android 11 devices, I saw some archived reddit threads from 2020. It's a shame but thankfully there is a workaround (if a little clunky). Apparently live wallpapers escape this weird bug/feature, so with an app like KLWP you can turn a wallpaper (like some of the 1080x2340 formatted wallpapers I made) into a live wallpaper. Again it works but for such a simple thing, it's a shame you have to jump through hoops that weren't there in Android 10.
Eh, why do they need to do these things. I'm already really annoyed that the lockscreen overlays a color tone over the image, dampening all cool vibrant colors and contrast. When i now choose a lockscreen wallpaper i have to overdrive the colors and contrast before applying it to counter the tone.
is this a bug? I thought it was some new effect of the system, if you repair it well, when you are using the Motorola launcher and make the gesture to open the app drawer, the same thing happens.
Whether it's simply an annoying new feature or a bug, either way it would be nice if it was an option.
Again I'm able to use the KLWP app to get around it, but its a lot of extra hoops for such a simple feature (and not a particularly intuitive app to use).
