Radiaton - HTC Desire S

Has anybody also noticed high radiaton from the device ?
I have never had such problems with any other phone.
If i leave it in room, it's interfering with subwoofer, making buzz sound. It's not subwoofers fault - this happened never before. I can put older phone right on the speaker, start call, but no buzz sound occures.
Also with older TV. Whenever i start call in the room where the TV is, or browse internet via mobile network, on the screen there start appearing white squares, and the signal is bad. Friend of me has original Desire. She can put it right on TV and nothing happens !
Is this normal ? I'm starting to be affraid and considering changing the phone for another.

Sometimes my speakers also start to make that strange sound but that is normal for nearly every new phone

Have you considered buying a geiger counter?
I've not noticed this behavior from my phone.

"any another phone" has a wifi&bt?

It's caused by mobile network - either Edge or 3G.. Mainly Edge.
Other phones also had edge connection. Although they were not syncing constantly, but once an hour phone has to "sign" for the cell, but it never made buzz sound.

Right.
Buzz sound play on your sub due to 2g,3g,edge etc networks. Have same buzz sometimes when one of that network is more active than its standby.

[Q] Anyone else with these issues?

I've had an iPhone for the past 5 years.
I decided to take the plunge & buy an android yesterday.
I purchased the AT&T HTC One XL.
This is my experience so far:
1) Audio -- while listening to music, opening another app sometimes either crashes the player or momentarily fragments the sound.
2) Connectivity (in NYC using the 4G LTE network) -- very patchy. Seems to go in and out, even though I've never had these issues in the same area on the 3G network. Don't know if this is a network issue, or just a phone connectivity issue overall. Pandora constantly goes 'in and out'.
3) Seems like there is no caching (anywhere):
a) Opening a web site, briefly checking my mail, and then switching back to the website, makes the website reload.
b) Conversely, opening, e..g, my mail, going to the web browser, and then going back to my mail, makes my mail reload.
For a phone with 1GB of RAM, I don't anticipate this issue -- my iPhone 4 with half the ram was able to keep many more apps and browser tabs in memory for extended periods of time.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
Do I have a faulty phone?
Are any of these 'issues' just the way the android OS works? (like said, i've never used android before, so i have no clue.!)
Will a future software update fix them?
I'm very much contemplating returning this device and reviving my iphone 4;
but I don't want to if i don't have to -- android allows everyone I wish the iphone would.
Thanks you.
I haven't had any of the issues you are mentioning. I used my music player for an hour while mowing the grass tonight. As far as the 4G LTE goes, I can't comment on that since I don't have it where I live.
When your music was messing up, where you using the music app or google music player? I would try the other just to see if that issue is with both.
Other than that, I would swap the phone out as you may have just got a bad one.
I take it you have the ATT ONe X?
I just got my ATT One X today, so I haven't fully put it through the tests, but I did have an Unlocked Euro One X about a month ago that had quite a few bugs. One was the sound issue you mentioned. When I played music thru any music player the sound broke up when you hit a hardwear button or sometimes just on its own.

Got mine yesterday and having only the issue with wifi signal and 4g signal showing. Lte is lightning fast where I am. I've been able to listen to music through my car speakers, take phone calls and text at the same time.
No eta and she shuddered a lot like she wanted to say an eta but the manager that was also talking stopped her I think lol. And it does work fine in the car it's when your using the built in speaker and doing other stuff . It's an intermittent issue
I am having issue number 3. My original iphone multitasked better than my one x is right now. Web pages always reload when I go back to them no matter the browser. Heck almost every app reloads.

Yes #2 is a HUGE issue for me. To the point (as expressed in another thread) that I'm ready to return it altogether and just keep my Sprint contract alive afterall for their EVO 4G LTE...Despite the fact I won't have 4G, at least I know their network is up consistently and is reliable!
I talked to a nice lady on the phone just now and she said this was the first time she had a call from a subscriber with a One X...So she hasn't heard anything. Just not enough data and time. She looked at some notes and AT&T does have the WiFi issue flagged in their system. I told her yes I was experiencing that one too. It's an issue when coming out of WiFi your data doesn't connect.
She had me turn off my phone, she disconnected me from their network and then I came back on it. After I explained to her with the WiFi issue, I worked around it by turning all off and then airplane mode, she said, yes airplane mode does the same thing and will essentially reset your connection to their network. You may be assigned a different tower, IP, etc.
So you can try that. Turn everything all off. Then turn airplane mode on. Then off and then the mobile network back on. You'll see a notice saying "preparing SIM card" ...
However, despite all that. I still have constant connectivity issues. The phone will not stay connected for long periods of time. It is always bouncing between LTE, HSPA+ and simply not connected at all. There's a few apps that I go to update in the store and all their downloads fail because the phone will not stay connected long enough to download them.
WHEN the phone is connected, for those brief periods of time, the speeds are good. I've seen nearly 30Mbps download on LTE to a close test server and 5, 10, 23, etc. on test servers farther away. It's extremely fast. Unfortunately, the phone simply won't stay connected to their network rendering it just about useless for anything other than getting some e-mail messages as they are able to trickle in.
thanks
The connectivity issue is horrible on my phone. I don't even have any clue that it's gone bad until I try to send a text or make a call that refuses to go through. A reset used to fix my problem, but recently it became very very stubborn (many resets... thought I tried everything and was preparing to drive to the store) and then I tried the all radios off, airplane on, airplane off, mobile on and it finally fixed itself. very frustrating, but thanks for the tip. Not sure I'll be keeping this phone. My iPhone 3gs was overall far more reliable.

That's explains why you didn't experience the #1 issue, it's only when music player is on background you start/switch to another app.
I'm experiencing all the above, but after LG Nitro HD I'll take these issues ten fold without complains. This phone is awesome even these issues.
the caching one sucks!

I have #2 and #3.
I was going to give HTC till day 29 prior to returning it,, however, ive changed my mind. Taking back tomorrow morning. It frustrates me to no end for the following reasons in order of importance.
1. Battery Life- only 6-8 hours with maybe 1.5 hours screen time. Thought maybe I received a dud based upon the reports of others but,,,,
2. Multitasking- there is none. 3/4 of the memory is ate up with crap running which probably accounts for the lack of caching. Due to there being no multitasking, my old iphone, iphone 4s and lumia 900 wipe the floor with this unit. It actually reminds me of the old galaxy S in terms of performance.
3. messaging- no notification
4. email-Can only send one attachment at a time.
5. email, cant click links, must copy
6. email- when you move an email to a folder, you must do additional steps to get back to inbox
7. System- pretty much everything requires so many additional taps, it is counter intuitive
8. camera- not on par with iphone 4s or galaxy s2, however software is better. I really wonder if the compression settings are what is destroying the photos.
9. No Visual Voicemail- without downloading more crappy bloatware from ATT
I do love the screen, the Quadrant scores are outstanding but not indicative of the phones actual performance and usability. I was excited, now not so much at all. There are so many other things to list but numbers 1,2,3 pretty much negate the use of this phone. I also have the Lumia 900 and iphone 4S. And so far I am most impressed by the Lumia900. However, it's camera, well, stinks.
You're crazy bro. I just scanned 6 pages wirelessly from my WorkForce 545 with my HTC One and emailed them out directly...that was 6 attached files...
Battery is awesome, but you could drain it in a few hours depending on what you do...but the same goes for every other phone.
I mean, I'd seriously give the thing a factory reset and a good charge. Play with it some more... He'll, root it and use titanium backup to remove bloatware...
But eh up to you

Terrible Bluetooth Range

I'm curious if anyone else is having this issue or can confirm this is happening on their phone.
I'm pairing my phone up to a bluetooth car stereo (4 different ones) and a couple bluetooth sound docks, and the result is the same no matter what.
If I walk more than a couple feed away the music cuts in and out. it completely disconnects at around 12 feet.
I have never seen bluetooth range this poor, even on my cheepo chinese bluetooth adapter a coulpe years ago.
I called HTC and their only options were telling me to factory reset my phone.
I believe it is by design as part of HTC's "aggressive" power management...I have tried to find a way to increase the Bluetooth power but have not been successful...I have to be no more than 2 feet or so for mine to work..I'm sure there is a way to increase bt power but I'm not sure how...I think I remember seeing this in another thread..
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
^It was probably my first thread.
I'm assuming the reason the range is so bad is because the phone is running in low power mode, a feature of bluetooth 4.0.
Yeah, BT 4.0's main attraction is the low power usage. You can't have both great range (the old BT devices) and great battery life. Given a choice, I'd prefer great battery life.

Bluetooth 4.0 is multiple standards of bluetooth plus a low power version.
It should have better range than bluetooth 2.0, but with the added ability of a low range/low power mode.
The audio will cut in and out even if the phone is just in my pocket and I am using a bluetooth headset (Motorola Elite Sliver). If I cant find a way to fix this or it doesn't work with a different headset I am not gonna be able to keep this phone. I really like the device but the non-existent multitasking and the terrible bluetooth performance is pushing me away. When I work I use my bluetooth all day for either customer calls or just to listen to music/radio on down time and I can't deal with this for too much longer. I'd hate to go back to my iPhone but I may have to unfortunately..
pretty disappointed.
I'm also out of my return policy on this phone now, and they have no other good phones.
Hopefully htc comes out with a fix for this soon.
I've called them 3 times now and havn't gotten a single good answer to why its so bad.
Also emailed them and still no response.
I have also noticed poor range. Much less range when streaming Bluetooth audio to my LG soundbar compared to my iPad and buddies iPhone.

I also haveno problems and no cutoffs on my stereo bt headphones and I often leave my phone on the table while I workout (true, under 10 feet away). If that matters, I'm on 2.20 stock.

i never used bluetooth with my ONE S before now. But I have moved it in to take over my business phone needs and replace my Sensation 4g. It is definately worse range. And if it it 10-15 ft away on the hood of my truck and i turn my headset away from the phone, the signal from my phone can't carry through my head. The sensation had no problems. The newer plantronics headsets are worse than the older ones as well. And putting the phone in my work belt on the opposite side from the earpiece is really bad. I don't know what to do. Might be time to fix my sensation and move back to an old headset.

Phone/screen freezes when using YouTube when driving

I have a strange problem. When I'm on my way to work I usually play some YouTube videos in my car. But after maybe 5 mins of driving with YouTube playing, the screen freezes. It won't recognize any touch or when I press the power button. I have to restart the phone by taking out the battery for it to work again. But the strange thing is that the video/sound still plays in the background after the phone freezes.
This only happens when I'm driving.
I am not watching the phone while I'm driving. Just to be clear.
Any idea?
I'm fairly sure there are laws against using your phone whilst driving.
And if not laws, then common sense.
Even the phone knows it's not a good idea so it freezes to save your butt ยจ
Definition of smart-phone.
You would get pulled for driving without due care /dangerous driving.... Not a good idea to have anything but music/calls/sat navigation on your phone in the car, even then I'd still ensure you have a car mount so you literally don't need to hold or look like you're interacting with the device.
Sounds like an odd bugg though.
Back to above please think twice about watching stuff whilst driving, how would you feel if you caused an accident and killed an innocent person all because you had your eyes on YouTube not the road.

Okey maybe I should clarify. I'm NOT watching it while driving. I have it hooked up to my car stereo. I have music playlists that I'm listening to. I'm not interacting with it other than pushing play when I start driving. But it is really annoying having to restart the phone every time I'm done driving.
I'd bet it's on the YouTube side and possibly caused by them monitoring your incoming signal and the hand-offs between cell towers as you're driving is confusing their back-end systems. Try VEVO and see if it does the same thing.

I'm just going to state the obvious here and ask why the bloody hell you don't just use music files on the phone for that...
It's the reception, the towers briefly disconnect you from the network as you switch from one to the other.

Everyone please give this poster the benefit of the doubt that he isn't using his phone illegally. I feel it's extremely unfair to judge a fellow XDAer and begin scolding them based on an assumption. Secondly, there are many things you can do on youtube including listening to TED talks, lectures or playlists as he states he does. All of these are things which I do.myself. Lastly I don't think any of the opinions offered up are correct, at least in my experience. I've watched many a youtube video on a greyhound bus, or while other people are driving and I am androiding it up.

I'm don't care if you think listening to music on YouTube is wrong and stupid. That is not the issue. The problem is that the phone freezes. What if I'm sitting in the back seat while a friend is driving? Or maybe im on a bus.am i aloud to use youtube then?
Can we drop it please.
To clarify I was simply offering advice, if any law enforcement saw a movie if it was simply a music video or lecture.. They'd push and use reasonable suspicion to get you pulled at least.
Get yourself YouTube screen off mod, or Spotify .
Also whenever I've used the train or the kids have the phone in the back watching any TV/stream service it works fine so it's definitely not an issue with the Op driving between towers, can you confirm it doesn't do it whilst stationary? What's your normal network conditions? Good?

If you are using 4g LTE, then that system uses soft handoffs between cells, so it shouldn't really be a cellular issue.
Have you checked if you have any third party app that tries to force a screensaver, or any form of closing/powering off the screen?
Is it plugged into cigarette adapter for power and what volt and amp is it pushing to the phone? What carrier? Does it make a difference if you increase screen time out to 30 minutes? Perhaps it's exceeding thermal threshold with temperature in car under sun and additional heat from charging. Or, OS or software glitching out switching between 4G and 3G or tower hand-off which is normally seamless. I'm on Verizon and forced switch between 4G and WIFI several times and YouTube kept streaming/playing without issue.

[Q] Stuttering audio with bluetooth

Hey!
My English are not the best but after allot of searching and testing I really need help and turning me to you!
I have a problem with audio stuttering when using any kind of speakers/headset (SBH50 and a Sony wirelesses speaker) with bluetooth. It works great if I have the mobile on the table right beside me, but if I then lets say puts the mobile in my pocket the stuttering appears instantly. If I then put my hand over my pocket the audio stops and if I then remove my hand the audio comes back stuttering.
I have tried turning off the Wifi, 3G, updating the mobile and the headset, restore both the headset and mobile.
I have the latest update, android 4.4.4 but I got my mobile back yesterday after sending it in on warranty and they changed the motherboard of the mobile to a new one. Before I turned it in the audio was clear and working but it wasn't updated to the latest update from Sony, i am not sure if that could cause this problem?
If you have any information on this that could help me I would be very happy!
This has always happened to me. I can set my phone aside and bluetooth will be perfectly clear, but as soon as it goes in my pocket and I start moving, it will stutter a lot. I always thought it was just how Bluetooth worked, something about static electricity or the warmth of your leg. It seems normal to me, but mine could be malfunctioning as well, who knows?

That is the exact problem I am having! The warmth or static electricity should not affect this, you should definitely have it check out! I am going back to the retailer today and turning it in for the fourth time... But the last repair was there last try so I am getting a new phone and I am sorry to say that my confidence with Sony Z3 is gone with the wind and I will take a Samsung S5 this time instead..
Honestly it doesn't matter to me, I've found many ways around it. I either deal with the slight stuttering having it in my pocket, or put it in my jacket front pocket (which solves the issue), or just set it down somewhere. I love the phone too much to have it traded in for anything that small.
Got the same thing, has anyone tried buying some phone pouch? did it work?

My (negative) findings after 2 months

My Nokia 7 PLUS was bought mainly as a backup phone and to experience pure Android without paying an insane amount for a Pixel. I like my new Nokia but there are so many positive reviews out there that tell you why this is a good purchase, so I'll try to mention the weird stuff I've experienced. This phone has been my daily driver for 2 months now.
First and foremost the quick charging issues that I have another topic going about, so I'll skip this part.
Wi-fi disconnecting and giving me a notification sound. I don't know if I'm just being a noob here, but getting "ghost" notifications throughout the day has been a bit bothersome. At first I didn't know what was going on, I was seemingly getting notification sounds without there being any updates for me in any apps. But the other day just as I unlocked the phone I got the sound and saw the wifi being disconnected for a splitsecond. I don't know how I turn off wifi sound notifications without impacting other more important sounds so I guess I'll just have to live with this. But it's still annoying to get this sound if the wifi DC's for half a second.
Rubber around the edges of the screen coming loose. I got the bronze coloured model and if you look just at the edge of the screen there's a millimeter thick bronze frame, and between that frame and the screen some sort of black rubber or adhesive is starting to come loose. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was a hair that had become stuck and as I started pulling about 5 cm of black rubber came loose along the screen. I think the rubber casing that was with the phone is the culprit, because when your phone is in your jeans for several hours a day the "case" seems to dig just at the edge of the screen which could cause this. The rubber that has come loose was not visible before and it's not visible that it was been removed either.
Google Assistant opening seemingly randomly. I have two phones on my computer table just to the left of me, both with Android Nougat installed and Assistant enabled. Sometimes I sit in complete silence and play PC games, only with audible key clicks and Google Assistant will open on my Nokia 7, yet it has never happened on my other phone (Galaxy s8+). It's spooky in more ways than one.
The 3.5mm jack port is behaving weirdly. I've tried with 3 different headphones and it's always the same. I need to push, pull and turn before the headphones get properly connected and still then they can get disconnected at any moment. You can probably imagine how much of a nuisance that is if people around you don't agree with your musical taste. (hint: train rides.)
This may seem like a long list but my overall impression is still largely positive, especially when it comes to lack of bloatware, duplicate apps and the battery life is outstanding.
The headphone thing I find as well but I have a carbon fibre case on my 7+ and this is what causes it as if I remove the case the problem does not manifest. The other things you mention I have never had. I have the TA-1055 UK version since its release.

I really don't recognize any of your complaints. I can't type a long search query in the adressbar in Lightning, but that's about it. Maybe you should RTM your device.
The ghost notification sounds annoys me as well.
My headphone jack works fine.
Issues I have:
Ui stutter/lag compared to other phones.
Phone showing as uncertified in google play store.
Not getting android updates (still on may patch).
Battery not as good as expected for the battery size the phone has.
Don't experience any of the above issues here. Fully reset you phone or RMA.

Thanks, did the first part and saw an improvement, but will this impact battery life? Because I will gladly keep the stutters if I lose my almost 2 days bat life
About a week since I have received the phone.
The mobile connection is usually 4g+ to 4g. depending on where I am I guess. However, I have noticed that on phone calls, the icon changes to hspa+
I don't notice any speed change but I'm guessing this is related to no support for VoLTE?
Also, I notice that from wifi to mobile transition occurs very sluggishly. Sometimes on banking applications the wifi doesn't work which is odd, but it doesn't connect to mobile on the fly either. Usually I have to turn off the wifi for it to work.
I've also had some weird experiences with my N7 plus.
1. Headphones do not work randomly. When this happens only the speakers work the ear piece on the phone doesn't work as well. Phone needs to be rebooted to fix this.
2. Some apps, such as Prime music and Quora, do not work when connected to the TP link ADSL router aty home. The iOS versions of the same apps work from the same router. Apps on the Nokia start working only when I connect to mobile data or office WiFi.

Volte is a mess on Android. In the UK it mostly only works on iphones or Android devices bought directly from the network who modify the firmware.
That said I'm on BT Mobile in the UK (uses EE network) and Volte and wifi calling work well based upon my experience so far using Oreo 8 with July updates.
Since the day I started playing PUBG, the call speaker is acting quite weird. Many times when I get a call, the speaker will be automatically turned on, but it doesn't show that. I have to turn it on and back off to hear it from the earpiece. It mostly happens when I'm in a game. But it has happened other times as well. I don't know if it is a problem on just my phone or android in general. Anybody have any fix for this?
