AT&T's description
Summary Description:
* Effective October 25, 2012, a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket will be available to AT&T customers via Wi-Fi only for those customers who have upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich (OS 4.04), which is still available via Sideload.
Software Update Includes:
* Google applications such as Gmail, Maps, Play Books, etc., may be updated to the newer versions.
* Fixes a problem that impairs users from being able to download the following pre-loaded AT&T applications: Kindle, AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Locker, AT&T Smart Wi-Fi, U-verse Live TV, myAT&T, and Messages.
o Currently when customers launch one of these applications they are connected to the Google Play storefront, but they are not given the option to download the application.
Software Download/Update Instructions:
Network Initiated Software Update
Upon receipt of the Software Update notification, the customer should select Continue and follow the simple steps to download and install the new software. Customers will also have the option to postpone the update for 1, 4, or 8 hours. Note: Only those customers who have upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich will receive this FOTA message.
1. Tap "Continue"
2. After the software is downloaded, Tap "Install now"
3. After the software is installed, the phone will re-start automatically
4. The phone is now upgraded to Baseband version I727UCLI3.
Device Initiated Software Update
Note: Only those customers who have upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich will be able to pull this software update from the phone.
1. Tap "Settings" icon
2. Tap "About Device"
3. Tap "Software Update"
4. Tap "Check for Updates"
* A message will display. "Software update process will not delete any personal data on your phone. Check the AT&T server for new software update?"
5. Tap OK
* A message will display. "A new software update from AT&T is available for your phone. This update will occur over Wi-Fi. Please make sure to stay within the Wi-Fi coverage area while the download takes place. This could take several minutes."
6. Tap Continue
* The device will automatically restart once the new software has successfully downloaded.
* Status Message: "The software has been successfully installed. Your phone is now ready for use."
7. Tap OK
The device must have an active SIM card installed to accept the update. Ensuring the device battery is charged to at least 50% is recommended for a successful software installation. The software update is available over Wi-Fi only.
Software Version Verification:
1. Tap Applications icon from Home Screen
2. Tap Settings icon
3. Tap About phone. If the Baseband version reads I727UCLI3 the device has the software update.

There should be tons of posts in all the previous update threads explaining how to dump it. Just gotta find em. I don't know off-hand but I'm sure many others do.

Upon reboot mine goes to a recovery screen. When I select "reboot" it boots up and informs me that the update has failed. I am rooted and have a custom recovery manager.

If the same rules apply for a successfuly OTA update, (1) you must be on ICS stock ROM, and (2) stock recovery; (3) no apps frozen or debloated to get the update

Tried to reboot, and booted into ClockworkMod. Can't update. Fix?

[HOWTO][ROOT/CWM] Rooting the 04-29-11 HTC Update[FROYO]

EDIT: You can also just flash THIS by attn1 to accomplish the same goal.
The update for 1.84 for the Inspire 4G was released on 4-29-2011 as an OTA update. It WILL NOT RUN on rooted ROMs.
Things I have personally observed about this ROM:
Quick. Seems to respond very well to input, no real hesitations. I won't tell you quadrant scores because they are useless.
GPS WORKS! Exceptionally well. 3-6 FOOT accuracy. The highest TTL I have seen is 17s.
Fast. HSUPA is working well, 1.3mbps up. I hit 6mbps down on a regular basis with this ROM. YMMV, of course. But it works great here in North Texas.
Third party non market Apps install. Yes, you read that right. There is no selector to turn it on or off, though. They work for me. YMMV.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE, COMPUTER, PLACE OF RESIDENCE, OR PETS.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prerequisites:
S-Off HTC Inspire 4G with microSD card inserted (HOW TO thanks to attn1)
RUU to stock 2.2.1 v1.80 (Located here thanks to cmstlist)
Gingerbreak v1.2 (From Chainfire) loaded on your SD Card
The OTA update note: place in /sdcard/download. This method is untested.
Sideload Wonder Machine if install of Gingerbreak does not work.
A valid Wi-Fi connection
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow these steps to achieve a rooted 2.2.1 v1.84 stock ROM
1. RUU your phone to stock following instructions provided in the above thread using the pd98img.zip method, NOT THE .EXE!
2. Boot phone, don't bother adding any accounts or setting anything but a wifi connection up.
3. Go to Settings, choose AT&T Software Update, then choose HTC Wi-Fi Software Update.
4. Download and install
5. Boot phone into updated stock ROM.
6. Install Gingerbreak v1.2 and run it. It will crash HTC Sense launcher, force close it, then you will see an error saying it could not reboot phone. Reboot manually using power button. If it gives you a weird error on boot such as a picture of a phone and a red mark, pull the battery then reboot.
7. ROOT! Yes, you now have root. Verify superuser.apk is in your app drawer, then I strongly recommend installing busybox from the market.
8. Install ROM Manager from the market and flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I have had no issues with 3.0.2.6.
That's it, done! I have had a couple small FC's from SU when first granting permissions to an app, to fix it open the actual superuser app then go back to the offending program. Once granted permissions this should not occur anymore.
I hope this helps!
If I missed anyone in the thanks above it was purely unintentional. PM me and I will correct the oversight.
I think you mean 3rd party apps is enabled? Not slideload.

a little "birdie" told me that at&t is rolling this out to 10K users a day for the first three days, then evaluating the results and - assuming all goes well - will bump up to 25K-50K users on 5/2, and then 50K users a day until done beginning 5/3 or 5/4. don't know for sure, though, if this is why you're having to wait for 1 more day.
i have the update, where do you go to let it install non market apps? i tried downloading the amazon app store thingy but it still says install blocked.

If you downloaded the update prior going back to stock Un-rooted, then you need to either format you SD card or use another one. When I went back to stock, the update didn't show up for me, but as soon as I changed my SD card, the OTA came right up after I prompted for an update.

I wouldn't much worry about updating to this if your phone is rooted. Soon enough someone will have a rooted and CWR Flashable version of this. With so many good roms and Devs here I assume it wont be long.

Software update?

Lo and beware, I got a notice about an update this morning before 6.10. I'm up to date on GB, so what's up? Naturally the connection to the server always fails when I do the check. . . .

UPDATE: checked the LG support tool at 10.40 which says no update needed. Nevertheless, I still get the exclamation point in the status bar and "you can check a new software" although (as happened with GB) it is impossible to connect to the LG server with the phone.

Same here. Rooted stock 2.3.4.
My phone has been saying connection failed since just before the last update. I had to use the LG Tool last time. But as for now, I haven't gotten any notices, and the LG Tool says i'm up to date. Who knows, maybe by the end of the day, there will be something........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Got up this morning, there was a notification of new update available, installed it! Hola! Official Jelly bean with butter!
Then I really woke up to know it was a dream!
This makes me want to flash a stock rooted Rom just to see the message despite what you guys have said about not being able to download it

Looking for official Jelly Bean OTA file

My wife's phone received the official Jelly Bean OTA file yesterday and now her phone is totally FUBAR. I've factory reset it 3 times now and each time different things stop working. I'd like to get the official OTA file and re-apply and then factory reset it one more time. Does anyone have the file or a URL to download it?

Thanks but those all look like they have been de-odexed or rooted. I was looking for the "virgin" OTA that comes straight from Verizon. I want to see if that makes the phone work again properly before adding in the variable of rooting it.
They are. You may want to look at section 5 of that guide again. The first download is the official ota

Ok thanks. I think I need my eyes checked too. Anyway, I downloaded it and applied it to my wife's phone. Still having the issues synching the Google contacts on the two accounts we use to store contacts. FWIW, I am wondering if VZW has pulled the update. My SG III was bugging me for since Friday to apply the JB OTA and has finally just stopped. My wife's phone on the other hand is totally non functional even after applying the full wipe version of JB.

Updated to VRBMV1 - MIssing Multiwindow

I was on VZWBLK3 for awhile as I haven't been using the GS3 after getting a new phone. So today I went to update it and it updated from VZWBLK3 to the latest VRBMV1. The previous update was supposed to bring Multi-window from what I read. But it's NOT on my phone and the update went smoothly.
It's not in settings and it's not in the notification bar toggles. There's no EDIT feature for the toggles either. I tried booting into recovery mode and doing a factory reset and it's still not there.
Anyone have any clue why this is happening or what I should do?

Yea I know how to activate it... but if it's not in the settings and not in my notification toggles then obviously that won't work either. (I tried)
I just checked again and I'm on VRBMB1 instead of VRBMF1... but it said it was updated to latest version... does it update one by one or does it skip to the latest version?
I thought the update with multi window was MF1, not MV1?

Sneakin' the update

Currently stock unrooted 4.1.2 for some tests. When I odin'ed back to 4.0.4, I went to settings, about phone, system updates: check for updates and it popped up per usual saying I had an update. I said yes and it preceeded to download. When it had finished it asked another pop up asked to update with the freshly downloaded software. Where does that downloaded software get stored? I wanted to download the new 4.3 system update so I could copy it to my computer and get to investigating but after I download it, I do NOT want to update my phone with it. Wary of anything to do with it because it has locked down and bricked a lot of peoples devices now. Links, pointers, suggestions and all greatly appreciated. Just saw some of the members discussing the dwv blocks which turned me on to this idea.

OTA updates save to /Cache/FOTA after they are downloaded. Btw, we have two 4.3 threads in the General section devoted to our latest OTA. One is titled 4.3 discussion thread and the other is titled along the lines of "4.3 is arriving in October." Both have plenty of discussion going on and are your best bet on following progress on the 4.3 OTA.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
Thank you! I've actually been following both of the threads to the letter but this side project of mine is more of a personal nature. If things prove conclusive then I will report findings. Need to take a gander at the low-level code written in C.

Excluding the ADB part, that's what I did lol I switched to my rooted VRBMF1 rom and did so. OTAs are a two step process. First, it asks if you want to download the update and then once it downloads you'll receive another popup asking if you want to install it at which point you can select Later or Install now. If you stay on stock though, and if you move that update.zip from /Cache, it will repeatedly ask you later to download again so freeze/rename system app "sdm 1.0" if you don't want it to autoinstall if you're asleep or away for too long.
