16GB Almost Full - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok, I don't think I have 11GB worth of stuff on the internal drive. Why is my phone (Settings/Storage) telling me that I only have 4.72GB available space left?
1.15GB - Apps
9.89GB - Miscellaneous (what in the world is in here?) :crying:
4.72GB - Available space
I need to clear out some space. Do I need to reformat the internal drive? Any tips?

I spent the extra cash and got the 32GB and my 64GB class 1 card just came in the mail today!!! Im going to download to my hearts content lol

Usually what is doesnt show is your nandroid backups..they usually are over 1gb so if you have several then there is your culprit
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

If you are asking where the extra space is, that is used by the OS and the calculation of memory. When you buy "16 gb" you really only get like 14.xx!

Go to the play store and dowload an app called DiskUsage. It'll show you what's using space.

lol, you can actually make as many accounts as you want with the 50GB. note that the limitation of a free account still hold true, you just have 50GB vs 5GB.
wish they would make sync available on this, would be a dropbox killer
I was about to post this as well. I'm glad everyone is staying informed. Can't wait to receive both of my Touchpad orders.

Do you have the vb730? I'd like your thoughts on this device. How much drive space is set aside for apps. This looks like the tablet for me. I just think the reviews do not give it justice.

Yes I do. I am using a Vb730. I do think it is a combination product of tablet and E-reader.
The Internal Memory is 8GB and the space for data application is about 5 GB/8GB. But you can expand the capacity by Micro SD... I am using 16 GB Micro SD card (around 30$ I think)
For an e-reader, it use LCD screen so could be not very good for your eyes.
For a tablet, it is not multiple touch screen so you can not use two of your finger the same time.
Most of the Android software can be installed by using Explorer software of this. It is quite simple. However, you could not install Android Market Software... But you can use Amazon Application...
I do think it is quite good with the price you have to pay...
Thanks. Now just waiting for Christmas to get this or the Galaxy Tab 7. I really think the vb would suit me fine.

heard the same thing and also something about an update will release it to the user. Maybe if we ever get ics we will see.
I will confirm that the "missing" ram is dedicated to the GPU. As far as updates freeing it, that is extremely unlikely, where it's at the point where I would say there's no chance at all. Doing so would gimp the GPU too much.
An old version of morfic's kernel freed about 30mb, but it no longer does so for that exact reason.

Can't upload large files. Tried to upload a Tom but it said that the file was too big.
Can't upload a folder, but you can create a folder on Box and upload into it.
Lower left of box app is a plus sign on top of a folder, click that to create your folder.
Even with the huge amount of space, no folder uploads, small upload limit, and no desktop client makes box pretty much useless. Dropbox dominates because it has these features.

Ive had that for a long time. I had to download an app which you had to login to with your Box details, then it somehow made the actual Box think that it was a certain phone (LG or SE?) that could get 50GB free and then voila.

one thing ive found out recently is that with dropbox you can set it to automatically backup your pictures (when on wifi if you want)
which is great because i always forget to back them up when changing roms (constantly)
and have lost a ton of pictures!

Dropbox is about to remove illegitimate 23GB free space

Users who installed any Sense 4 ROM would also have a chance to get free 23GB extra space from HTC One promotions, but looks like this illegitimate method of getting free 23GB has been caught by the Dropbox itself.
So I think I should get my files on Dropbox as soon as possible before they deleted it because 23GB free space I've got is the illegitimate method by using ported Sense 4 ROM.
Official statement from Dropbox support:
The official Dropbox 23GB HTC promotion will not start until sometime early this month, when the devices are released. To earn the extra 23GB of extra Dropbox space you will need to link your HTC Sense 4.0 device to your Dropbox account and complete “Get Started.”
The method to earn 23GB that is being circulated on the XDA Developers forum and on other blogs and forums is illegitimate. We plan to remove any space received using this method.
Downloading apps from unknown sources is not a good idea, as they might have been modified to include malicious code. We strongly recommend that you only install the Android Dropbox app via Google Play (formerly known as the the Android Market) or from official download links on Dropbox.com.
I hope this helps.
best,
Sean

maybe they will only remove the extra 32Gb and leave the previous space
what do you think?
thanks for the info!
They will remove the 23GB that was part of the promo but leave what you had before.
So you don't need to remove all your files.
NOOOOOOO!!!
what a bummer
they've cut me down...
shame they don't sell a middle package like extra 10GB for USD 2-3$ a month... I would've bought it...
