Viewsonic Viewbook vb730 - General Questions and Answers

Could we get some love for the Viewsonic Viewbook vb730 on XDA? I know that it's not that popular of a tablet but it would be cool to have a place for questions.

Agree... Should any big head of Xda help me on this? New firmware? Best software for this?

Do you have the vb730? I'd like your thoughts on this device. How much drive space is set aside for apps. This looks like the tablet for me. I just think the reviews do not give it justice.

Yes I do. I am using a Vb730. I do think it is a combination product of tablet and E-reader.
The Internal Memory is 8GB and the space for data application is about 5 GB/8GB. But you can expand the capacity by Micro SD... I am using 16 GB Micro SD card (around 30$ I think)
For an e-reader, it use LCD screen so could be not very good for your eyes.
For a tablet, it is not multiple touch screen so you can not use two of your finger the same time.
Most of the Android software can be installed by using Explorer software of this. It is quite simple. However, you could not install Android Market Software... But you can use Amazon Application...
I do think it is quite good with the price you have to pay...

Thanks. Now just waiting for Christmas to get this or the Galaxy Tab 7. I really think the vb would suit me fine.

MirrorOP app

Guys and Gals of XDA, I think I've found the Holy Grail for the Xperia Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awindinc.sphone2tv&hl=en
A little app called MirrorOP Sender. Fully functional Android display mirror to PC and it runs fairly well.
Just played the first level of Super Mario Bros with only 1 death...Streamed from my Play to my PC connected to my TV through HDMI
All you need is the MirrorOP Receiver for the PC and you're good to go:
http://www.mirrorop.com/product_Windows_Receiver.html
The sender app is only a trial but it's worth a test. I'm not sure if the framerate is connected to how good your internet connection is. My internet isn't that good and it displays fine (portrait and landscape) but from some American speedtests I've seen maybe some of the Americans in here might have better results
Going to give ago. If works, extremely good find
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Not bad, not bad at all! Excellent find!
Just found out you can also do it the opposite way as well if you get the MirrorOP receiver for your Play and Sender for PC
Runs brilliantly and means I can still access my desktop from the comfort of the toilet
Root only.
Awwwww
lags, dont know why
Tried it out will be perfect if it didn't lag..... Atleast for games and videos ..... But displaying pictures are ok enough......

Not to mention its like THE EASIEST PHONE TO ROOT EVER. None of those ridiculous tools that Motorola phones need to achieve root, no worry of s-off or any of that crap. I pity the Foo who doesn't zergrush his Xperia PLAY first thing.

Haha...pity the foo. But seriously rooting is completely reversable & easy to do like others will tell u.

Can you try the app before.you buy or must you buy first? After reading the comments here and in Play Store is it true to say the app is still slow & needs some work or is it worth buying now?

Not worth paying for yet as just to slow for games. Can test out first as the apps are free for demo time. But this does have lots of potential in the long run. Still early days yet but if see how good splashtop is, this app good just be as good and fast with some more work done to it.

Any experiences?

Very good find, but instead this exactly like VNC for Android?
I was using one, called Droid VNC server by Jose Pereira. (Sorry, I can put links right now )

Well, My first advice to you would be to never purchase from one of the Chinese tablet makers. They are cheaply made and are never what is advertised. But if you really need help, I would need to know what version of android you are running and the name of the device. Please reply to this post as fast as you can for the quickest help I can give you.
Lol, I am never going to order from anyone like that again!! I bought the 'pocket rock' running ICS 4.0.4
Thanks SO much!

May I ask how much you paid for it? And do you know how to root the tablet? Or do I need to teach you how to do that? Because I found a link to a flashable .zip of the google playstore for ICS. just tell me what you need.
I've never rooted anything before, but I am prettu good with computers. I thus, will need help to root it. I paid $62 !! Thats why I bought it, seemed like an amazing deal! And it is a 'good' tablet, nothing better than that.

Hmm, if I were you, I would have just went with the new Nexus 7. It's only $200 and is an amazing tablet. But let me see, I'm not finding much of anything on your tablet :/ could you link me to the original page where you bought the item? Thanks.
Ok, xda will not let me post a lke, so I will post half a lik, and probly get this post deleted like last time chinavasion.com/t4s0/ I was thinking about it, but I have a 10.1" tablet and I wanted one more like a phone so I don't have to carry this monster around with me. The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 was my first pick, but its $200 as well... so I thought I'd take a chance on it. And with your help, it just might work out half as good as I hoped so, Thank you very much again!! (The bad part is I talked my brother into buying onr with me and his is the same way so, thats much worse than mine not working!!) /\ thank you SOOOO SO SO MUCH!!!

[Q] new uses of our old O1, ideas and projects

Hi everyone!!!
Like some of you I bought a new phone, but my O1 stills in perfect conditions...
Considering its quite old and not of much monetary value (at least in my country) selling it is kind of hard.
So I was wondering if there's any alternative interesting use for my O1... Perhaps as a web server? Or a kind of joystick or remote?
This thread is to give ideas and suggestions about a new life/use for old O1s
***UPDATE***
This seems to be already a popular a the best option IMO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2084746
At this point there's no release, but it's quite promising

Like someone else did here, use it just for navigation. Uninstall all useless apps make it barebone to have ultimate battery life with any froyo/gb rom.

I think I could that anyway with my new phone... The thing is to give it a new use, not just a smartphone with another OS...
Perhaps it would be interesting if I used ubuntu in my desktop and so there would be awesome functions I suppose

Google are becoming Apple, every new update they've done something to restrict the freedom of the platform or make you jump through several menus to get to what used to just be there, kinda like Windows 8 lol.
After using Symbian on the 808, I just think Android is so far behind it in terms of functionality, Nokia let you do anything, they don't care, though they ditched it now so why should they lol. I wish they didn't ditch it now though and I wish the 808 had newer specs because the browser is so slowwwwww!

How exactly are they restricting us? We will always have the option to sideload or get it from another location.
Google is nothing like apple. They know how to make money, to me that's all they have in common

With ads forming a big revenue for some many developers Google was contemplating it for a while. I guess it will soon be side loaded ad blockers only. I hope they allow update to older already present ad blockers.
I was using AdAway. AdAway is available in, and even receives updates through the F-Droid app store, so that's what I'll use for the time being.

There's other stores like above mentioned F-droid.. There's also slideme.org and aptoid.com
Totally understand and back them doing this.
Ads are part of how they earn money on this _free_ OS and the hundreds of _free_ quality apps in the store.

You're certainly free to feel that way. I'm also entitled to do whatever I choose to get around their restrictions on MY device.

Yes I actually wrote that down then deleted it again before I posted.
I understand removing from Play as long as those of us somewhat more techminded can still sideload...
It's the majority of pure users this affects (not implying a negative undertone there).

how good are tablets for ebook reading?

Hi,
I was wondering how good is the ebook reading experience on a tablet.I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences as I have never owned a tablet. Will they eliminate the need to buy hardcopy of books?if I`m gonna use it for reading around 3 hours how will it hold... do eyes strain more ?
Currently Nexus 7 is the table that I`m looking to buy I will mostly be using the tab at home but is the extra cash for the sim version worth it?
I also read a great many issues regarding the Nexus 7 is it a safe tablet to buy how is support of Asus in inida?
Please do share your thoughts..

I have a nexus 7 and have tried to read on it. There is something about it I do not like compared to a book or even a kindle. It's easy to read but seems more distracting. Not too sure why though.
