What would you change the tablet for - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey guys I'm going to sell my tablet not because i don't like it did because I bought a Mac Book Pro . I can't justify having 2 really expensive Mobile items . I was thinking of just selling in getting a Nexus 7 but I know I'm going to miss the screen a lot on with the new iPod mini out the decision is harder . I'm looking for 7 to 10 inch solution that let's me write documents on the go ahead and transfer in the cloud . Watching netflix on the tablet has been my favorite part but I just can't keep a 500 dollar movie player

I dont understand. Why sell the infinity, and then ask for suggestions for a 7 to 10" tablet?

Sold it?
How much you expect you can get?
450 for a used tablet?
and then buy a Nexus 7?
lol?
well, if you buy it within 30 days, then get a full refund.
I don't even like to bring a mac book pro to school as it is still too bulky and heavy

I agree: it doesn't make sense. I wonder why did you make the decision to buy a Mac Book before asking the question. You are eating your dessert first, mate! Well, IMHO, you already made the decision - when you decided to buy the Mac Book; you just feel the need for some confimation.
However, to answer your question: I wouldn't change my Infinity for a Nexus/mini Tampax/Samsung. I would miss too much the screen and the joy it gives me when using it - like, right now, when I'm responding. If I'd need a 7" gadget, I'd wait until Asus brings out Nexus 7+ (or whatever they'll call it) with a Super IPS+ screen that would be readable outdoors, in direct sunlight. And would have a microSD card slot. I am not used to downgrading quality. Your mileage definitely varies!

Hang on. Let me get this straight:
You can't justify a 500 dollar tablet...
But you buy a 1200 dollar Apple that has the exact same specs as a 250-350 dollar regular laptop?
I'm not seeing the logic here.
What you're going to get back for your Infinity will be about the amount you're going to have to pay for a new 7/10". So why bother selling?

Not catching the logic here myself.
Maybe what your saying is just worded strangely.
I'm pretty sure you won't be recouping a lot from selling the tablet.
The price on them is declining as of late.
I'm curious also as to why you didn't opt for an iPad3 instead of a Macbook?
iTons has a lot of sketch or handwriting apps that work pretty nice.

I would sell my TF700T plus dock in a heartbeat for a new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon. I have a Galaxy Not e 10.1 tablet and it works just fine. I don' t think I'd miss the Infinity at all!

idk if you guys like your infinities or not but mine SUCKS. screen bleed huge lags i really want to get out of it and either buy a nexus 10 or the new ipad 4. why because my mac is too heavy. i feel bad that i bought a mac but its a long story and i want to sell my tablet okay ? i cant return the mac it was at one ofthose college stores on campus ( a campus im never going back to ). so im stuck with it ! already tried at the apple store in my town they wont take back 3rd party stuff. anyway
iipad mini. its the most portable tablet but its underspecced like hell. wait for a nexus 7 +, a micro soft surface or and ipad 4. those are the top tablets right now. and i want to get the best one for portability. what would you guys chose ? the ipad would intergrate with my mac a lot , but the surface has a keyboard already with it and a micro sd card which is really important. a nexus 10 would integrate well with the android apps i already have plus im planning on selling my htx one x for a nexus 4. my head hurts from all this maybe i should take a break from buying unecessary **** man

[Q] tablet decision

hey guys,
i want to buy a tablet for my new school year. so i have to make my notes with it. furthermore i want to use it like a tablet wants to being used, browsing, streaming music and videos and using lots of applications etc.
i dont want to pay too much, actually not more than ~500-600€ because i have to buy a new phone as well.. so i came to the decision that the google nexus 7 would be a great device because it is really really cheap. i would have to buy a keyboard but that would not change the price a lot. (~300€). but the last hours i thought about the small display in relation to all other tablets. i mean its not that big and i need to work with it..
so the asus transformer pads came into my mind, especially the tf300t. its way expensiver but the keyboard dock would be really great. the display is bigger and the technical equipment is also better (sd card slot). the price would be ~500€.
i would like to know another opinions from experts, thanks in advance
500 euros???
for that amount you can get a cheap microbook or whatever....
like a 10 incher
if youre insisting on a tablet it really shouldnt cost you more than 300 euros- and yes 7 inches is a bit on the small side if youre doing a lot of work on it. but what kind of work can you do on it?

would you trade up your device for cash ?

Hi guys i worked really hard this summer to save up for this tablet and dock. it was sweet the first week and i made sure to factory reset and just install good known apps. 3 weeks later the device is still... pretty snappy i guess. it laggs opening the app drawer with only 2 pages of apps lol. getting back to the homescreen sometimes is a pain . and i dont understand why there is not a lot of people with the device ! the nexus 7 has every dev and his grandmother making things for it. its getting really hard to justify the money i spent for it
so my question is. would you sell your tablet and dock ( lets say my dad wants to buy it off me for 600$) and you get a nexus 7 and enjoy the custom roms, gaming and community behind it ? with lots to spare? i dont use the camera on the tf700, i mostly use cloud storage so idk if i need the micro and full size sd card i bought lol. hm at the same time i dont want to regret it later. oh well ! opinions ?
If the Nexus were 10", I'd consider it. As is, absolutely not. I've tried a 7" tablet before, and they're just too small to do anything productive on them. They're great pocket web browsers, but at that point I feel like I could just whip out my phone and as such dont see much of a point.
Roms WILL come for the Infinity. Its still a rather new device, the Nexus has the advantage of full source being available for it from day 1. Most non-nexus devices have only kernel source available, so it takes a while for devs to figure things out. Once one AOSP ROM drops, development should pick up really fast.
I'd never consider having a 7" tablet instead of a 10" tablet or the Infinity specifically, especially with the dock. This is more of a netbook (but not laptop) vs Infinity thing for me.
I'll definitely consider getting a 7" tablet as an addition to it, however, for note-taking on the go and such, but when there's a solid 7" tablet with SD card slot, 3G, good (and fast-charging) battery with reasonable CPU/GPU/SoC and JB out... pretty demanding, so I'm still waiting, 3G seems to be the biggest problem in these.

+1 for a 10" over a 7". I have to say I have a sorry long history with the various tablets, going back to the very first Android Tabs. I have had the full range of Asus devices, spent months testing the Xoom and the Galaxy 10.1 for VZW, the ViewSonic gTablet, all the way back to the Augen Gentouch and the Velocity Cruz. For me, 7" is a great e-reader and that is about it. I am very hard-pressed to come up with anything that it is useful for besides reading a book that I can't do faster and easier with either my phone or my tablet depending on the need.
I just don't see the value in it. Borrow a 7" and try to take notes, it really doesn't work nearly as well as you would hope. Then do it on a 10" and see the difference.
Good luck!
this is a subjective question to be answered by ones own needs

No SD slot on Nexus, thats why I got a tf700 in the first place.
I was really tempted initially when I found out how few apps there are supported. But measured side by side its main competitor in my mind the ipad 3, the infinity just has so much more functionality I'm willing to wait for the app support. :victory:
I waited forever to get the Infinity so I definitely have patience for more development.
Trade for cash
Heck ya baby...
Bucks talk hardware walks!
I'd say no. If you REALLY want a device with lots of devs behind it and ability to customize it, go for something like the samsung galaxy tab 10 (or the tab 2.0 but thats reather expensive)
The reason i say the tab 10 is because:
10" tablet
Sources are available
Odin is provided BY SAMSUNG to make CUSTOM ROMS, how much easier can they make it?
LOTS of cooks making custom versions of android
Its been out for ages meaning there is a developed community behind it
In my area anyways they were given away like fruitcake, Buy a cell phone get a tab, buy a PVR get a tab, buy a car get a tab, go to school get a tab, etc. so the market is saturated
Tab 2.0 drives down the price of the tab 10, you can get them used for like, $200 in my area
Dual core, powerful enough to run pretty much anything on the market. VERY few apps take advantage of quad core
If you want to get a solid 10" tablet and not pay big money this is the one i would go with. Its not top of the line, its not as flashy, it doesnt have as many features as the prime but it IS a solid tablet that will do what you want with the customization you want while leaving LOTS of extra money in your pocket.
If there would have been any valid rumours about Nexus 10" tablets I wouldn't have even considered getting another tablet. Same goes for phones now. My SGS3 will be the last branded phone. I want to go to Google all the way. Just so tired of companies putting their "own value" to the product and making updates slow and actually most of the extra is just annoying. Thank god Asus didn't make that much changes, only some useless apps which can't get rid off without rooting. But still updates are slower than with Google's Nexus. And Asus is the best of the rest.

Samsung is bad for updates, i agree, however because we get all the sources it is pretty quick before you get AOSP versions that are up to date with google, at least thats the way it is with my S2.
hey boy i know you spend a good amount of money to get the infinity but your comparing it to the nexus 7 which is a 7" device with almost no features with cheapness ooozing all over it . It's like buying a bmw and you want to trade it for a honda civic!!!!! .
Sure it will have more developer because it came out first plus its a google nexus reference design what do you expect. Wait another month and you'll see that there will be a lot of developer for this device.
Why so many useless thread concerning this type of question eg: should i trade my infinity? , what color do you like? , should i get the 32gb? Why not get yourself a brain so you can make a decision.

Tablet or ipad

Hi all
I want to buy a bigscreen
And i am confused, what to buy tablet or ipad???
And if tablet then which one??
Tablet that i can carry easily and which have good specifications, hardware, and good dev support..
Pls guide me!
You do know people will say anything other than iPad, but for an android tablet here we go
10.1 inches: Asus transformer series, Acer tablets, galaxy tab 2 or galaxy note 10.1.
7 inches: galaxy tab 7 inch, nexus 7
I don't know the real specs, but these are the tablets I would choose.

Thanks for the reply..
Galaxy tab 2 7 inch..is this tablet worth buying,i mean will it get dev support??
I would never buy a crapple product as long as long i am breathing but it is true that the ipad has a large collection of tablet optimised apps but on the other side is completely locked down and if u have a symbian/android phone u will want to throw the ipad away after one hour or jailbreak it.
But we have to root android too!!!
I mean in what way everyone says that android can be customized and apple not..apple has cydia!!
Galaxy Tab 10.1
We just rolled out the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to a bunch of homecare/healthcare workers so I had a good chance to play with them, and would highly recommend it. The screen size was just about perfect, it felt comfortable and sturdy in the hands and the speed seemed very snappy, even with just the stock Android and no modifications.
I would expect that support from the Dev community will be in abundance and should continue for a long time to come.

Cydia doesn't do nearly as much as Android out of the box. Right now, iOS has no way of getting widgets, and I think that is a very important part of Android.
If you want size, the 10.1 inch tablets are actually bigger than the iPad (at 9.7), but the 7 inch tablets are much more portable.
Rooting Android is NOT the same as jailbreaking, and not even close to the same in meaning. So you cannot say "we root, they jailbreak"

Isn't an iPad a tablet? Or is it a not-quite-a-tablet device? Kinda like Incipio's website has a smartphone category and an iPhone category. Is an iPhone somewhere between a feature phone and a smartphone?

iPads aren't tablets. Tablets can actually do simple things like download files off the internet, or offload your camera pictures without retarded dongles or "the cloud"
An iPad is nothing more than a toy. There's no way people can actually be productive on one, not when it's so locked down into that ecosystem. If I create a document on a tablet, I want to be able to throw it on a thumbstick and put it on someone elses computer without internet, or attaching the tablet to another computer (the latter I don't even think is possible on the iPad because you have to use iTunes to transfer files). I mean, why relearn something as stupid as transferring a file, when the best method (drag and drop) has been around forever??
The lack of a user accessible file system is a deal breaker for me.

I definitely prefer android over the ipad. I agree that the ipad is nothing more than just a toy. The imac pro i have is an amazing computer that allows me to do graphic design here locally with two 20 inch screens i can use the adobe cs software and it will pay for itself.
I took my ipad back and purchased a quad core transformer prime. To say the least it is amazing bar none. I usually can go a day or so with full use at work and home without charging, the best part about it is the keyboard connection, it comes with a backup battery that powers and charges your asus transformer tablet. so just incase you fail to charge it that night it should still be able to get ya through the day and get your emails sent out in time so when you make it back home you can charge it then. I definitely recommend it...
On another note, you can also look into the MK802 by android, it is an android computer a bit bigger than a flash drive it comes with one USB port, a micro USB, mini HDMI so you can make your tv your personal android the micro USB has a connector inside the box that allows you to have 2 full USB ports along with a micro sd card slot. plug it into your surge protector, you know that one last port you have available on the surge protector, . and plug it into your tv via HDMI and since it has a built in b/g you can connect to your wifi and browse on your now smart TV. Definitely worth the 74 dollar price tag.
Whatever you shall choose to best suit your need; I am wishing you the best.
well depends for simplicty i would recommend a ipad as you can do facetime and theres good accassibility support, but if you like custormizing the your tablets then go for a google tablet as ipads are quite restricted
Thanks for your replies
Personally I would go win win8pro. Where u can actually use it to root or jailbreak ur android and ipad.
But it expensive, have a fan, and ****ty battery life.
For good developer support. U can't go wrong with having a nexus.
For bigger, I like the transformer. Really really like it.But I hear it doesn't come with an unlockable bootloader. So one of those ipad/ios looking, plasticity sammy should be good

I was looking at the asus transformer infinity tf700. can you install windows 8 on these?
the reason I say the infinity is because all the recent reviews say it's the best android talbet out atm. kinda like the galaxy note 2 for specs. it will be the best android phone specs atm.
this is totally disregarding prices, just what's best.
it looks like the infinity came out in the UK 3 days ago. is this true?
is it recommended to wait until end of october 2012 for a win 8 tablet, or will it not be as spec happy as the infinity? I will use it mainly for movies web etc.
I keep up to date on the samsung phones and I'm always anxiously waiting for the galaxy's coming out. is anyone up to date on the aus tablets, as it appears they dominate the tablet market (I'm obviously anti apple). if I'm wrong please infrom what tablets are best atm.
this entire wall and my requirements could change if someone tells me you can't install win 8 on an android tablet. then I'm done here.
:good:
wait for the surface pro > its gonna be expensive but its gonna be awesome. I wholeheartedly recommend a phablet in place of a tablet though i never thought a phablet would be actually ergonomical until i got mine. and its the best of both worlds .
I watched some clips of the surface pro and thought sweet, but then I saw the seminar of it and I was like -_- that prick in the blue jumper. script galore. it cashed once or twice, at one stage he was like 'I can smoothly bring down the menu bar' or something, and he's swiping it like 5 times then basically moves on because it wouldn't swipe down and open.. I just found it extremely annoying to watch rofl...
I don't want to support it, I know I'll be supporting them in the end with a win 8 tablet, but I don't want to support then much more than that.

Some or most of them, yes, as long as your kernel/rom supports it.

I'm about to buy one, anyone recommend?

I walked into Office Depot with a coupon for $15 with intentions to immediately buy the Nexus 7 16GB, when I walked up I saw the TF700T in the corner of my eye and instantly I fell in love. I started browsing the specs and trying the tablet out and really wanted it but saw the price tag. I grabbed a receipt slip to buy the Nexus 7 but my feet wouldn't move because I became indecisive. I ended up spending a hour at OD just staring at the two tablets. I ended up being a sucker for the price and went to buy the Nexus 7, when the employee went to grab my Nexus he said it was stuck under a big shipment of products (they just received it a hour ago) and "it would take 2 hours just to get to it". He promised to set it aside for me to pick it up tomorrow and I went home in shame. I am on my laptop looking at the TF700T and decided F the Nexus 7 and just get one from Best Buy and get some rewards points, plus I have $25 in gift cards and rewards $ been sitting around.
I love the Full HD resolution, the HDMI capabilities (I canceled my Android mini-PC z902). However, since you guys actually own the tablet, you will know a lot more than I do. Do you guys recommend this tablet for me?
I am planning to watch HD mkv videos, listen to music (bluetooth mostly), play previously purchased HD and non-HD games that I had to endure on a small screen smartphone, read my kindle books (my kindle was stolen a few months back), and many other things. I will most likely look into rooting it since I love my rooted Thunderbolt. Also any negative thing about rooting this tablet?
Please highlight on some of the negative things, but don't scare me away from the product if you recommend me purchasing it.
Also for those who might own both or know someone who has one or the other, would you recommend the Nexus 7 or TF700T? What are some things that the Nexus 7 dominates over the TF700T?
I appreciate the time you guys put into reading this and I appreciate your answers!
I made my order with Best Buy, will plan on picking it up tomorrow around noon. That is unless I find some other info persuading me to avoid the tablet.
Please do leave some comments.
Thank you!

I fully recommend the tf700 infinity for the incredible screen, the fabulous, must-have keyboard dock, the microsd card slot and mini hdmi port in the tablet and the full size usb port, and sdcard in the dock. you have native usb otg, more storage than you'll ever need, great wifi and gps, everything works very well. stereo speaker not too shabby with boost from volume + app. Easy to root, just have to run superuser/supersu right afterwards so root sticks. some people have had build quality/QC issues and a number of units have been exchanged. the device series has a less than stellar i/o performance but it can be enhanced through software. the jellybean update will come soon and that's expected to improve i/o performance a lot. mine is already very smooth in 97% of operations with a pretty basic stock-based custom rom.
you'll love watching movies and listening to music. some have reported an amount of audio lag when using bluetooth headphones with a streaming video. some browsers perform better than others...you need to experiment. i think you will love it.
i love the Nexus 7 too, but it's more of a plaything than a serious tablet to do anything productive with, besides read, casual games and flashing roms and kernels. if you're a flashaholic, get the N7.
Yes, get the 700.
Dat 1080p screen.
Dat upgraded tegra 3.
Dat quick Asus updates.
Dat ddr3 ram.
Dat animus playing capabilities.
Dat keyboard dock.

The tablet is great. I did return a couple and ended up with on with almost no light bleed and I don't see AnR issues very often. The I followed this thread and its even better. I didn't remove all the apps listed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30343788&postcount=1
TF 700 DOES have more build issues than most, but almost all will show up before exchange period is over. It's great.
I had a TF 201, THOSE were crap. Thankfully, I had BB protection plan. I suggest you get at least a yr plan. True, I am having a few issues with mine, hence plan, and will be returning it for another one. BUT, it's fabulous. We will be getting jelly bean much sooner than most people. Hell, many tablet owners of other makes are still on Honeycomb. I'm not sure what res camera Nexus 7 has, but 700 is 8 mp back, 2 front. BEAUTIFUL pics.
I think if you get BB plan in case you get a lemon, you will be more than pleased.
I've tried it for hours. Very stable and quick. Fully recommend it for everyday use (surfing, chatting and music). 720p is all right. But 1080 can lag or choppy sometimes.
Is the 3G/LTE allready available if yes where can i buy it?

The wifi only is the only one available at this time.
I'm very happy with mine.
Just be careful and do *not* purchase it from Office Depot - they do *not* allow you to return it, no matter what - you can only exchange it for the exact same product.
So, if you bought it and decided two days later that you just didn't like it, you are screwed! They have the *worst* return policy that I've *EVER* seen - stay away!
I will *never* buy any electronic device from Office Depot again (this policy applies to all electronic items)!
Spread the word!

Walmart does not sell the Transformer series, never has. Office Depot, GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon, and B&W Photo do, save some grief, get it at Best Buy, and you DO NOT need a Hardware warranty. I returned (along with 70+ other people an 8 month old Rooted, UNLOCKED Transformer Prime, that Best Buy had already given me a FULL Credit for, and got the Transformer Infinity, in fact, 3 of them, I am still hunting a perfect one with no light bleed ( people claim they exist, but so fat that has been like Bigfoot, hear of, but rarely seen. Lighbleed isn't all, they are the most inconsistent pices of hardware on the market - EVERY ONE I have has produced widely varying benchmarks, and build quality is either awesome or total garbage, so be prepared to return, return return, until you get a perfect one (you get 30 days to return as much as needed) - The Nexus 7 is built by Asus as well, but it's a freak of nature, maybe Google is a demanding partner, but other than io lag, they seem to be more consistent in build. Good luck, happy hinting. I hoe I didn't scare you off. Heck you can always say screw it and get something else. Bunch of folks got the Samsung Note 10.1, but thats bit for me. To plasticky,AND LOW RES. cool though, but no transformer.
My only issue is the poor sound quality. I wonder if voodoo sound will come to our eventually.
Nothing like having great earphones sound horrible because the tablet doesn't push enough power to them.

Yeah for better sound quality for Asus u need to buy volume + .99 app at the google store. That's what I have and it sound good I mean extremely loud, but if u are planning to purchase the app set it up right like enabled equalizer and changed the preset to flat and bass on 2 no more than or it will blow up...

what to do for a new tablet??

Hi guys, long story short, I'm in vacation with my grandma and she came to know the pleasure of using a tab, for reading books newspaper and play candy crush and cut the rope.
She uses both my galaxy tab 2 7" p3100 with CM 10.1.2 and my mother's ipad 3. Now she want to buy one for herself, and asked me what to do.
Now i have few things run trough my head:
Option n.1: buy her a cheap android tab, maybe from chinese manufacturer, she does not need super specs so who cares. But she is gonna use it for read books and newspaper so what to buy with a good screen? I'm not an expert in that range of things, what do you guys suggest?
Option n.2: make her help me buy a new one for me and give her my 6 month old galaxy tab, but so what can i buy? I dream of an xperia tablet z but i need a smaller then 10" screen and anyway my budget is limited to around 300€ also with my granda help. oh and i need it it with 3G built in support.
I wait for your suggestion!
Cheers

I would recommend the new nexus 7 just because the screen resolution makes text super clear. And it has an awesome price. I picked one up about a week ago, and I've only been using it for browsing, reading, and news, it's exceptional. I prefer the 7" personally because it can be more like a book and the portability and ability to type easily is nice. Find out if she prefers the ipad or galaxy tab screen size first. If the 7" seems to be too small you might want to consider 8-10".

She said is much or more the same for the screen. O already thought of the new nexus 7 but the with wifi-3G option is expensive to buy it for her. Moreover I'm in Italy and g-play does not exist here so it will surely be more then 349$. The nexus 4 here costs 500€ that are about 450$. ( if it is just for her I would prefer to spend a little bit less. If it is for me yeah it would be a great option. But pet's see when it is shipped to Italy.
Thanks for your precious opinion!
Edit: crazy idea make her fund a bit for the new plan with xperia z ultra in bundle XD
@augustine: i know that much but a 300€ device for a woman that turns 80 in september is bit too much. Maybe someone knows of a china fair enough tab
what do you believe of this tab.. price would be around $225 to $267 nd no it is NOT CHINESE... here is the link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2392059
Do NOT skimp on a tablet for an elderly person. If things do not work right and/or are laggy, she WILL not use it. She expects a premium feel now. If you get her a crappy a$$ Chinese tablet (or any tablet less than 200 USD), she will hate it. Old people don't have patience for that kind of stuff.
If the tablet appear problem, the old people don't know how to fix it, buy a high quality tablet.
