GTablet Out for Delivery - Thinking of returning right away....

So my GTab is on the truck out for delivery. I'm seriously considering returning upon arrival without even opening it. I know we are not suppose to talk about Honeycomb but I really doubt that this tab will ever get it. I am a ROM addict with my incredible and feel real comfortable with all that. But is the screen glare and lack of honeycomb enough to spend an extra 100-200 on another tablet. Think Asus or even Xoom.
What are your thoughts... Any insight will be greatly appreciated. I commute 75 minutes on a commuter rail every day to work. I use my device for movies, shows, reading and games.

This tablet will do all of those admirably without Honeycomb. Battery life is amazing, Video support under Froyo based roms is good. Gingbread still needs drivers, but Software Decoding works in many cases, depending on the quality of your source etc.
Reading might be the only disappointing area. If you hold the Tab in portrait mode, that's where the viewing angles get to be a problem. Might bother you, might not.
Having said all of that, If I didn't have a G-Tab, I'd probably be buying an Asus Transformer (not a Xoom). But, since I have my G-tab, it's quite capable and I'll be keeping it.

Most of the other tabs will not be out until June or later. I would wait and keep the gtab until the market and prices stabilize. The gtab is more than capable of doing what u want.

As far as I know, there has not been an Android tablet released yet that has not had its share of problems and disappointments. How long will it take until the Asus has all the fixes in place....or until there are custom ROMs for it (if ever)?
I wouldn't spend a premium on a device that has not been on the market long enough to know if it meets my needs.
The Gtab at under $300 is a steal as far as I am concerned. I've had mine for a month, running Vegan-Tab 5.1.1, happy as can be with it. Many people have posted about the poor viewing angle. I disagree....I actually like the viewing angle as I don't want everyone in the neighborhood to be able to see my screen anyway. I just haven't seen the issue....of course, each of us is different in that regard.
I'd buy the GTab all over again. I think it will meet/exceed my NEEDS for a loooong time to come. And when I am done with it, my grandkids will have a new toy!

Yeah the Engadget review wasn't very good of the Asus tab. Not that I have a lot of faith for them to review it without some sort of bias but the videos did not show it off well. The OS seems really sluggish and the screen, while IPS has some serious glare on it. Seems to defeat a lot of value of IPS when you still have to hold the tablet at an angle to see the screen properly.
I probably won't buy a high-end tablet until late in the year to see the direction the manufacturers go.

I bought my g-tab from TigerDirect yesterday and was totally disappointed during my first 45mins with the machine when it was stock. The custom UI was probably put together by a gang of retarded midgets.
Then I installed Vegan 5.1.1 and my g-tab became the greatest steal of a buy in 2011.

For $280, you can't go wrong. With Calkulins Rom, Pershoots overclock kernal and Go Launcher this thing just fly's. It does everything you need it to do. Will I upgrade in a year or so, probably. By then the bugs should be worked out. This tab with Froyo runs great. Don't get caught up on Honeycomb, they all have their limitations.

If I was you I would hold out and keep my gtab because there are alot of tabs coming to the market you might favor one of those just keep your gtab in good condition because viewsonic has some strick return policy rules

I have the urge to get the transformer or xoom as well, but I'm not giving up the gtab just yet. With the gtab, I can install different roms and play with stuff.
With transformer or xoom, I'm entirely at their mercy. There is no evidence that honeycomb on those devices are any more stable or smooth.
I do know gtab does everything I need....just not everything I want...(want gps!!)

Here at work, Verizon dropped off a Xoom for me last week to demo. It's interesting, has a better screen, built in cell radio comes in handy, and a bit sexier - but definitely had it's shortcomings and definitely not worth the $300 premium in price.
Truth be told, it made me proud of my GTab (Vegan 5.1.1, pershoot's 1.4 kernal, and VTL launcher). I see nothing on the market that is worth upgrading to currently.

Love my tablet. Thinking of getting a second one for the Girlfriend. Running Vegan-tab ge rc1 and have it set up better than my computer in most instances. You can't expect this thing to replace all of your computer needs but it can come close. Sure it don't have gps built in but that is what we have phones for and if you need how just buy a Bluetooth one for about 40 or less bucks. It's a wonderful machine for the price you can't beat it.

IMHO You'd be a fool not to wait for the EEE Asus Transformer. 400 bucks for a legit honeycomb tablet. another 150 for a legit laptop/notebook. Thats the way to go...

They took Honeycomb out of the oven too soon, they need to cook it for another few months before it becomes tasty. You'll see the shortcomings now that the affordable (or reasonably priced) tablets are arriving. It will take developers a few months of usage to make it better... I was going to get the Asus also but decided to wait until summer instead. Until then the G Tab with Froyo is all that is needed.

I have VegaN 5.1.1 and ADW Launcher on mine.
For reading, I like Aldiko because I like the two page, side-by-side presentation. I have also set up Aldiko as an Adobe DRM device, which means I can purchase books from Google/books then download and read them directly on the G-Tablet with no other steps in between.
Movies / Shows I prefer Rock Player. I haven't found any in my collections that don't play well with this setup.
Games; I have X-Plane 9, Leos RC Simulator, Angry Birds, Curling, Sudoku, ... No problems with any of them or many others.
I am so accustomed to the screen by now that I hardly notice the viewing angle difficulties any more. Sitting upright, like on a train, and holding the tablet is one of the best angles, so there is no problem there. The worst is probably laying the tablet flat on a desk in landscape mode. But if I turn mine upside-down, even that works very well.
I do have to keep my phone handy while not at home or in the office. Through the phone ( Samsung Galaxy S ), I can tether to 3G via Wifi and tether to GPS via BlueTooth.
I have no reason to need a more costly tablet right now. The G-Tablet does everything I want it to do.

Not sure what the return policy is but if it's 30 days, I would keep the gtab to at least try it. It's super easy to put it back to stock so that shouldn't be an issue.
I bought my gtablet back in November for $379. I recommended it at that price (at that time) so with the price dropping under $300, I think it's a great buy. IMO, it's the best 10 inch tablet for $300 and below. It's also a good "starter" tablet. It's a good tablet to see if you really want or need a tablet. The gtablet is not frustratingly slow so it's a good representation of an Android tablet's capabilities.

When holding the GTab in lanscape mode, the horizontal viewing angle is not too bad, the vertical viewing angle is terrible especially when watching dark video. For reading e-books, most likely you will be holding it in portrait mode, the viewing angle should not be an issue.
For $300, I don't regret buying the GTab and keeping it because I know there is a large and active community to support it.

I'm actually returning mine for the Acer. Taking a bit of a gamble that there will be good development on it, but for $150 difference, I thought that the better screen, newer software and hardware was a good move. I figured the support (both manufacturer and dev) of a new tablet would outlive the year-old gtab.

I am on the fence between the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the TF700T infinity. Any thoughts you all may have please share. The pen isn't a deal breaker for me, but the KB dock for the TF700 could be a real deal maker. I like the concept of a tablet book. Not to mention the hi-rez screen and some pretty impressive CPU/GPU specs.
I also have thoughts of waiting for the next product release cycle from both Asus and Samsung to see what the future may hold.
Fell free to coment... positive, negative please feel free to fend the good the bad and the ugly/beautiful...I'll put my big boy panties on; so let it rip.

I like that the dock has a battery to help charge the tablet
I like the extra storage accommodations in the dock
I love the HD screen
I like the feel of brushed metal as opposed to plastic

I could not be happier with my Infinity. Wait for what Asus makes to trump it and you'll be waiting till 2013. The device just came to the USA a few months ago, so it's still relatively new.

Make sure you physically use the Infinity before you dump that much money out, specially for the 64mb model. For that price and the dock you can buy a pretty powerful i7 laptop with a great screen. Regarding the Infinity the specs and numbers look great on paper but when you use it, it doesn't seem like the same thing as on paper. The JellyBean update did make it more smooth, but regular conventional browsing it jerks around when doing a simple scroll through a website. I've learned specially with technology that "specs" on paper do not necessarily coincide with the real world. If I could install Android on my wife's iPad I would LOVE to do that as I think th Apple hardware and quality is fantastic and proven.

bradslinux - As usual, the only person who can really decide is you. Because you'll always get answers that are all over the map here.
I was reading here before buying and thinking I might encounter issues such as those mentioned above and others people claimed to experience. But, it turns out my experience with the Infinity has been great and I'm not having such issues. (I've always prefered using XScope for my web browsing, 2nd place Dolphin, 3rd place Firefox, stock always is last place with me even with Chome. And it was like that with me even before I had the Infinity.) No physical laptop is as light as the Infinity with its dock and everything from web browsing to everything else has been a pleasure and a breeze to perform. Plus, you can't detach the screen from a laptop and the Infinity with just the screen is so light it's scary :laugh: .
You can even read in the threads about the JB update, there are people who are happy like me and others who are upset. Of course it's best to factory reset after the update, but even with that there are some happy afterwards and some who are sad. (If you like root, be sure to read about how to handle that before doing the JB update.)
Nobody can answer the question but you.
Every single Android device I buy, I see tons of complaints about, and every single time I get it I'm so much happier than the complaints. But that's how it has been for me. I know what I like and I like the Infinity .

I couldn't agree more as far as the positives.
Had my 32 gig gray Infin for over 2 months and have few complaints.
I'm not one of the "lucky" I am just a gadget consumer who bought a product that more than fulfilled it's ability.
If all the apps in the play store were written for tablets like this one I believe there would minimal *****ing about this thing.
I'm one of the buyers that thinks this tab may just be future enabled...

I'm spoiled with the ease with which I could root and unlock my Galaxy Nexus, and have been trying different radios, kernels and ROMs for months, with virtually no worries, no complexity. I'm new to the Infinity, so the complexities and uncertainty about NVflash (too late for me), unlocking and rooting once JB is installed, etc, is still a bit bewildering in comparison to the GNEx (I have lots of reading to do) -- and I'm finding it irritating so far. That said, even with stock JB installed, and Apex Pro and Beautiful Widgets (and HD widgets - still deciding which I like better on this device), I'm finding the TF700T to be a pretty amazing device.
I took it out "for a spin" today -- into NYC by train, on a couple of subways, and to a couple of meetings. I purposely did NOT carry a backpack or briefcase, took no laptop, no laptop brick, etc. The Infinity and dock, in a simple slipcase, was the only "business tool" I brought with me in addition to a phone today.
On the train into NY and even in the NYC subways (Verizon has picocells in the train tunnels), my Galaxy Nexus had a strong signal, so I flipped on it's Wi-Fi hotspot and my TF700T was connected the entire time I was traveling. Sweet!
At the business meetings, I opened up a few PowerPoint presentations I had copied on the device before my trip. The display was so bright and clear that the presentations looked great on the 10.1" screen -- and I was able to pass the tablet itself around for people to look at, navigate through slides, etc. Incredibly effective.
On the way home, I assembled notes from the day, marked up the presentations. I used it as a primary email client for the day. Amazingly (for me, coming from a Galaxy Nexus as a reference point), I used the device for several hours today, the display was amazing even in the brightest light- and I essentially did everything needed with a fraction of what I would normally carry for a business day in the New York. After many hours of use, I had barely dented the battery charge -- this is really pretty amazing. As bright as clear as the display is,it is apparently pretty energy efficient.
Anyway - between functionality, usability, elegance, battery life and sheer portability, this is clearly going to have a big impact on my days as a "road warrior".
Honestly - the only thing seriously giving me second thoughts is increasingly real sounding speculation about a Google / Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10.1 in the works, with 2560 x 1600 resolution (among other things). I have a strong feeling that I'll be wanting that new device when it comes out. But for now, the TF700T strikes me as the best device available in its class-- at least for my purposes.

Wow...as a commensurate gadgeteer myself I would just love something like this alleged Google / Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10.1 with 2560 x 1600 resolution.
If they build it...I will (well you know)

I can't compare the two. There's plenty of information here and the net comparing the two for you to make judgement on what will suit your needs and desires.
If you do choose the Infinity, I would suggest going with the smaller 32GB version because the cost of the larger is not money well spent. Since the Infinity has the SDHC/XC slot, you can get a lot more storage for the money in that route. Heck, wait for a sale, and you can get a lot more. Personally, I went with the smaller unit. Picked up the Scandisc 64GB microSDXC card for $50. I hardly use any storage on the internal, so even the SC card is a bit of waste. Really, unless you're going to have hundreds of apps, thousands of songs, or a lot of video stored, you really don't need that much memory.
Also, if you want to save a few dollars, you can pick up the dock for the Prime, TF201. It's the same thing, just a different color. It's nice you want want the extra battery, SD card slot, or USB ports. If you just want the keyboard, I would suggest just getting a blue tooth keyboard since you can use it on more than one device. It's essentially what I did, but I already had a portable keyboard I used with my smartphone.
If you're really indecisive, see if someone lives near you and see if you can meet up and check out their device. Handling is always better than reading.

I was just thinking about that myself. Mixed feelings though. I love having the extra battery in the dock. Keyboard is nice, but I tend to prefer Swype, even on a tablet. (using it now).

Thanks everybody for the remarks and opinions. No longer on the fence, I just popped for the 64gb version w/dock kb and a nice leather case. It should be in my hands tomorrow with the case following behind early next week. The biggest deciding factor for me was the "Keyboard vs "S" Pen" arguement, the KB won it.
All the responses I received only go to further my appreciation of what the XDA community has to offer.
My greatest difficulty will be in NOT installing a custom ROM right out of the box. LOL

[Q] Help me pick Asus TF700 or Nexus 10

Ive read through some of the posts on here already but here is my dilemma. I do not own a tablet of any kind. Lately i have been wanting to get one for 2 reasons. Having somethhing to work on thats not a huge laptop. Note taking, apps, some games, and movies. The 2nd reason is for traveling, i want a tablet for my kids to watch movies on when we drive.
Now i starting looking into the Nexus 10, and love it, but with no expandable memory, i feel very limited getting it. Even at 32GB, - OS and formatting, i think you are only looking at around 27/27 GB of space. Considering an average movie is about 1.2 - 1.6 GB per, i wouldnt be able to put a whole lot on the nexus 10 before being maxed out.
Hence comes in the TF700, i love the fax that it has 32 GB + expandable memory, i feel very comfortable in that regard, but have read plenty of people with issues with the TF700. I also love the fact that i can get a keyboard with it as well.
My next thought it price.
A 32GB nexus 10 is 499, + tax and shipping through google im looking at around $550 out the door.
TF700, looks like i can get it through Amazon for around $470 with no tax where i live, and free shipping. So there is the cost factor that plays into my decision.
I would prefer to keep my devices fairly stock. I do own a LTE galaxy nexus and love it. I did unlock the bootloader, but i run it stock. I would prefer a OS that looks a lot like my phone but this isnt a requirement.
Any thoughts/advice/help would be appreciated.

If you're on the fence, I would maybe wait until a couple reviews come out. The Nexus 10 would be great with kids because of Android 4.2's new muli-user functionality. With regards to the storage.. I think the 32GB should be enough for what you need. Even without a microSD. I would buy the nexus 10, but if you're really on the fence just wait until a few days after it's released to watch some good reviews. :good:

The battery life added by the dock really helps out though with kids watching movies. I'm in the same boat, although my son has motion sickness, so no reading/watching/playing for him in the car, and his sister doesn't care about doing stuff in the car (yet). They're 4 and 2, respectively.
I also find that the tablet/dock combo makes it easier to just stand the device on a tabletop or something and let them watch. Gives them something to hang onto, as well, and when snapped shut, it's also a bit more safe than a 'naked' tablet.
32 GB is probably a lot of storage, but with all my clips of the Swedish Chef, the Muppets, Sesame Street, Family Guy (for me, not for the kids), Leprechaun Plop, Bobo the Rabbit and so and so forth, I'm looking into 12 GB! That's not even adding the Smurfs in wide-screen cinema deliciousness, and all the Ice Ages and whatnot.
No, I'm perfectly happy with the 700 and all its storage options. Also, don't forget the possibility for quickie file transfers by USB stick! I managed to get the Smurfs on a USB stick while on vacation -- shame the HD TV would play from USB stick... </geek hero>

I have a 12.5 inch laptop so I never bothered to get the keyboard for the tf700. The tf700 lags horribly and is very frustrating sometimes for simple web browsing. I was just getting to point of throwing my warranty away and installing cleanROm but I'm going to just get a Nexus 10. I hate that it doesn't have microSD but I don't think I'll miss it much because the microSD performance in the TF700 is so horribly slow I barely used it.

You didn't use CleanROM, though, so you're missing out on the performance this device can and will offer had you tried it. Out of the box comparisons taken as the norm -- which arevalid on XDA only for noobs or the faint-hearted -- maybe the Nexus would provide slightly better performance. I say 'maybe' because the file I/O is as bad on the Nexus devices (tested with N7 -- reference somewhere in the forums) as it is on the entire Transformer range. I would be very hesitant to jump on the Nexus 10 bandwagon -- chances are you'll find out you've not gained anything in terms of performance, and actually lost in terms of options, including but not limited to the storage options the 700 provides.
Oh, and ermmm.... I don't know where you get the slow MicroSD performance from, because the I/O issue concerns (mainly) the INTERNAL storage -- my memory cards are as fast as they are/were in other devices I put them in. No issues whatsoever.

Here's a novel idea. Research the specs on both. Look at issues raised in appropriate forums. Then pick the one that works for you.
Personally, I'm hoping you get the Nexus 10. I'd rather have people who can't make up their own mind, or do their own research, posting on another forum.

This really is a decision that can only be made by you... Besides that, it's really hard to say exactly how the Nexus 10 performs since nobody even has it yet! I mean actual users. It amazes me the number of people that are saying that the Nexus 10 is a "beast" and that it will easily outperform the TF700, etc - that is all speculation at this point. On paper, the TF700 looked like the perfect device too, but as we all know, it has issues that didn't show up in spec sheets (slow I/O, QC issues, etc).
However, if the keyboard dock and expandable storage are important to you, I'd go with the Infinity. We don't even know if the N10 will offer a keyboard dock - and if it does, we have no idea what kind of features it will have (extra battery, trackpad, USB ports, etc).
If you do go with the Infinity, I'd highly recommend the following:
- Buy it at a local Best Buy - this way, if you have any defects with the device, you can quickly and easily exchange it, without having to worry about shipping, etc...
- Get a SquareTrade warranty for it (with accidental damage coverage). For an extra $90 or so, you get 2 years of worry-free usage. It's also important for the next recommendation.
- Unlock the bootloader and install CleanROM as soon as you know that you have a defect-free TF700. With CleanROM, the device performs so much better than stock. Really, it's a must-have!
If you do the above, I think that you will be extremely happy with the TF700 and it's performance. Plus, you'll have the awesome keyboard dock and the expandability that you need.

Im leaning to the nexus 10 32gb model, but well see if any specials or promotions pop up between now and then that might swing me the other direction.

Sounds like your issue is really about storage space.
I'm not up on all the Nexus 10 stuff. I'm sure it'll be a good device like the 7. Thus, I'm assuming no performance issues.
As for storage, the question is really is about how to do you plan on using your tablet. If you have a smartphone, that may help you. What kind of stuff do you store on it and how much of it. How many videos do you need to store on it versus want. So you want keep ten movies, that's about 16GB, which by your numbers, leaves 10GB for everything else. That's quite a bit storage for music and apps, unless you going to have a lot.
I think the issue is more of concern if you're going to be flashaholic or something like Boot Manager comes out for it so you can have and run mutliple roms.

If you don't want headache and working smooth and fast right out the box, get the Nexus 10. If you get the tf700 you going to have a lot of work ahead of you just to make it worth your money, even though the tf700 comes with more bells and whistles....

How do you know this? Have you used a Nexus 10? People sure are assuming a lot about the Nexus 10! How do we know that it doesn't have the same sort of I/O issues as the TF700? How do we know that it runs smooth out of the box once you start taxing it a little?
It might be true, but I'd wait until some XDA members get their hands on it before being so quick to assume that the Nexus 10 is going to be so perfect out-of-the-box...

This ^^ -- the Nexus 7 doesn't even fare that much better than the TF700, and it has a far smaller screen to power. I'm very glad with my purchase, and the Nexus 10 is not even on the radar.

im not sure why anyone hasnt mention On The Go. OTG is the ability to plug a USB memory stick into your tablet. there are actually two ways to do this. Tbe first is with an app you can buy for only a couple bucks, sorry i dont remember its name. The second is by unlocking and rooting your tablet.
i bought a nexus 7 when it first came out and knew id be traveking a lot later this year. so i roited and unlocked it. right niw i have 4 thirty-two gig sticks and 2 sixty-four gig sticks that i use with it on a regular basis.
ohh and sorry you do need an app called stickmount but its free.

I bought the huge adapter thing.
I hardly ever use it...actually I plugged it in once to check for function.
Works...it's kind of a waste of money for me anyway.
One of my least necessary purchases.

Android 4.2 was released to VOSP (or whatever it's called today.) Not being an Android user yet, I have no idea how long before a ROM will be available for the TF700 that includes the user profiles function. I too would LOVE that, having 2 kids.
I think Engadget's review was a great assessment of the two devices:
"In fact, other than a relative lack of resolution (1,920 x 1,200 vs. this guy's 2,560 x 1,600) the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is, we think, an overall better package. It's thinner, lighter, faster, has a much better camera, offers better battery life (particularly if you opt for the keyboard dock) and, frankly, we'd take the brightness and contrast of that 600 nit, Super IPS+ panel over this one with its extra pixels."
People are really obsessed with screen resolution now though, like they are with camera megapixels. Even though most content (web pages, etc.) the higher resolution poses no advantage whatsoever.

I'm also in the same boat, trying to decide between the two. I have a thread over in the Nexus 10 forum and unsurprisingly, the nexus 10 is winning the argument there with most people complaining about the lag and memory problems on the Infinity.
I'm stlil undecided though as I really liked playing around the with my brothers TF201, so the Infinity should be a step up i'd imagine.
Tough choice!!!!!!! Arrggghhhh.

[Q] Would you recomend the TF101 after nearly 2 years?

I have been given an opportunity to buy this tablet with the dock for not much money. It's second hand but used lightly and in great shape. The price is about 25% lower than the price of a NEW Asus Nexus 7 16GB in my country (no google play store here ).
My main concern is that it could be outdated. I had an Tegra 2 device (optimus 2x) and it was a pain to load any custom roms on it. I could only load Gingerbread roms on it. Sold it very quickly.
Is the TF101 showing its age? Does it run smoothly and are your batteries in good condition after this period? Any problems with apps? Games?
This would be my first tablet, so i'm not very much informed about them. I have been in the market for one a long time (1 year) and this is the first good opportunity I have seen. I would use it mainly for writing at college, some web browsing (flash running ok?) and casual gaming.
So would you recommend it now?

Only if you get it VERY cheap. And I say that as a TF101 owner.
The Tegra2 SoC is ****. It cannot play back standard 720p scene MKV-files without recording. Much less 1080p. XBMC and similar products don't want to support it because it lacks NEON-support which makes it easy to offload video-decoding to the GPU. Only thing I've gotten to play in a watchable state (but with occasional stutter) is Futurama.
It has also been plagued by unstable firmware updates, random reboots and sleeps of death. Asus has completely abondoned it and no further firmware updates are expected.
Your only chance of getting this tablet past ICS and onto JB (and whatever comes next, whenever that comes) is through third-party ROMs. If you get a model you can root. You may or may not be that lucky. Asus never unlocked the bootloader for the TF101.
So yeah. Unless you get it very cheap ($100 and less, keyboard dock included), I say no. Not worth it. There's much better things you can buy these days.

Its about 270 USD, but keep in mind that the nexus 7 is over 380 USD :crying:

Basically you will be paying 75% of the price for 25% of the goods.
You will be paying almost full price for a discontinued product instead of one still receiving updates, and one being ensured good support, both from AOSP/Google and from the Android community.
At this price, you will regret buying it.
Again: I say this as a current TF101-owner.

Get the serial number, and make sure it is Not a 3G variant, haggle it down to 200-225 and it would be worth it IMO.

Personally they work nearly the same except for video playback. Videos with the proper kernel did work, just not HD without stutter. Games and other things are wonderful. (Of course assuming you rooted and rommed it, both of mine are/were)

I'm going to disagree with all of you guys about the 200 USD Price... That's completely ridiculous for an used TF101. I got my TF101 2011, last black friday, at bestbuy for $249.99 and with all the cases and other stuff I got for that device it came around $270. (This is without the dock and it was brand NEW).
Now this device is outdated and I see listing on ebay for the device used for around $75 with dock. NOT Worth it; you can buy better stuff.

Clocked at 1.5GHz mine plays practically any 720p scene release I throw at it.
DTS support can be a pain but other than that, no issues.
I'm not exactly sure what and how much of it you need to smoke to find them on Ebay for $75 with dock though, docks alone go for that price or above.

I bought my TF101 from a friend and we both looked at current eBay prices. I agreed to $200 for tablet and dock and I agree that someone must be high if they think they can get that for $75 on eBay. Just doing a quick search, I see one without a dock that's at $177 with 6 hours left and a refurb with dock at $275 - these prices are pretty typical of what I've been seeing, too. Refurb's a bit high in price, but not ridiculous compared to the $250-ish average we'd been seeing.
Additionally, using the awesome eValuator app, $220-260 is average and that goes to $280-299 when I search "TF101 and dock".
Even the ones that are broken and won't power on are still going for over $100.
To the OP, I would recommend making a choice depending on if you want a 10" or 7" tablet. I don't think 25% less is a great deal if you really only want a 7" tablet. I was actually looking at the N7, too - when I was shopping, I went with the TF101 because I liked the keyboard dock, I trust my friend that nothing is messed up with it, and I wanted the 10" size. I'd tried some 7" tablets and since my phone is 5" the 7" tablet wasn't a big enough difference to appeal to me.
I also appreciated how easy the TF101 is easy to take apart if I want to replace the battery. I think it's a great design and I wish newer tablets still had these features.
I've had this for maybe a month and I have no complaints. I have watched Netflix in HD on it for a few hours at a time and had no issues - I don't know how this differs from other video playback, but perhaps I'm not picky, I thought it looked fine (and there wasn't any stuttering). I don't really play any intensive games on it, so I can't comment on that. I'm on stock ICS rooted right now, but going to mess around with ROMs.

Best Android tablet from it's time, hands down!

If you can get a refurbished one (they seemed to be everywhere at one point) then it's worth it. I found the tablet and the dock at different stores for under 250$ two different times and haven't had any issues with them whatsoever (I have 2). B&H had the refurb dock for 99$USD I think newegg was 120$CDN... but that was a while ago.
I'm running JB 4.2.1 and overclocked to 1.6GHz, watching 720p mkv natively in mplayer without any lag or issues. The dock makes it a must once you get used to it and learn the hotkeys and the extra battery time kicks ass! The USB ports means I can connect a usb to serial adapter to connect to devices at work, no need to carry around the laptop... or just connect external ntfs storage or whatever.
Overall I'm very satisfied, the only "problem" I have is the lack of updates from Asus but oh well, there are some awesome devs working here to bring us the best. I'd go watch the other forums on xda to see how active other tablets/devs are, compare your choices to make an informed decision.

My wife owns a Nexus 7, I own a TF101 w/ keyboard dock.
I'd take the TF101 hands down.
That isn't to say the Nexus 7 isn't a wonderful tablet. But I use my TF101 almost as much as a work computer; the larger screen and durable build, the nice speed even if it is a dual-core instead of N7's quad, the 1.5ghz (overclocked via EOS 4 Rom) speed.... I love this thing.
I love my wife's Nexus 7 mainly because it is small enough to fit in some pockets and very light.
You have to figure out what you want from your tablet and proceed accordingly. I'm a firm believer that trailing edge technology often is a much better deal than chasing after the newest (the minute you leave the store it too is trailing edge!).
The price range on these is almost NEVER below $200, and that is without a keyboard. The poster w the neg comments early on is either badly misinformed about everything he mentioned or just trolling. Easiest way to test that thesis? Go to either Amazon or Ebay (w/ sales where time is almost out) and note the price ranges there. Even Craigslist, where I got mine for a steal ($225 w/ keyboard). Read the other comments, make a list of what you expect from your tablet, and go for it. Both tablets are great in different ways.
And did I mention my wife says she sorta covets my TF101?
One add'tl edit.... The TF101 has TWO SD-Card slots, a mini-HDMI output, TWO USB ports (on keyboard), and a few other jingles. Nexus 7, like its competitors (iPad, Nook, and KindleHD) have few to none of them. Just another thought...

Also, I got mine for $250 new in 2011 (That was when this tablet was good/ at the top of the market)- it was a black friday doorbuster. The BB Mobile store near my house had stock when I went in.
There are better tablets out there that will go on sale and I personally wouldn't buy a USED TF101 unless if it was $100 or less.

Newegg has the TF101 for $250 refurbished right now, and the dock for $99.
Big sales really can't be used to determine going price and market value. eBay averages are really the most accurate measure of what people are currently asking and what people are willing to pay.
I just cashed in a a Newegg super deal a few days ago, myself - and that's what it was, an awesome super deal that was way below the market price.
If a person wants to hold out for a super sale that may or may not happen that's their choice.

For example, I can buy a 9.7 inch Prestigio multipad with 1 GHz and 1 GB RAM for 350 USD - USED.
I'll probably buy the TF101 I found and live with it. If not, I will sell it for profit, because I can probably make some 50-100 bucks of it.

I'll keep my tf101 until I stop setting value in it, but Asus/nvidia seriously oversold the thing and I'd be lying of I said I was 100% happy about it when I got it delivered.

you, my friend, are a liar and/or a fool. you will NEVER find a tf101 "under $100" unless it was broken. you will also NEVER see a new one for $150. period. look at ebay....cheapest place to find anything most of the time. good luck finding one with the keyboard for under $275. and good luck finding one without the keyboard under $200. USED. most of them listed that are $100-$150 are BROKEN. learn to read. cracked screen...chipped case....sound doesn't work....the $100 to $150 ones are severely abused transformers. if you can get one for $250-$300 with the keyboard dock, you have a good tablet that's worth the money. period. if you're not completely retarded and can follow basic instructions from this very website, you can then put the newest CM10 nightly build on the tablet, overclock it to 1.5Ghz or more, use "swapper" to make a 1GB swap partition, and you have - in theory - a 1.5Ghz, 2GB ram tablet with 2 usb ports, a keyboard, an sd slot, micro sd slot, hdmi out, the newest android OS....and in the 10.1" form factor. you can't find that ANYWHERE else on the market. people on here that say otherwise simply don't know what they're talking about. stock, it's a good tablet. modded, it's by far the best buy for your money and will smoke most others on the market that are three times the price (you know, the big goofy white ones) in performance, features, and all-around look and feel.

Just to update you guys... I have bought the tablet today. I like it pretty much. Finding the screen a bit awkward when using in portrait mode though.
It's kinda heavy, but I'll get used to it, after all, it took me some time to get used to a 4.65" mobile phone screen. I rooted it and I am still using the custom rom, as I usually do with all the stuff I buy. Eventually I will put a custom ROM on it because I had some serius hickups and a reset.
As far as the price point goes, I think that I couldn't have bought a better tablet for this price. I paid about 270 USD for it and it even has some of the plastic foil on it. Not even a scratch.
Now im off to find a custom ROM that has the ability to use all the buttons on the keyboard and thats overclockable.
Google Now and pinch to zoom in emails would be great too.

I know you've already bought it, but I wanted to chime in that comparing my TF101 to my son's Nexus 7, I'd take the N7.
I liked the TF101 a lot, but as others mentioned, the stock firmware had become unstable. I had apps crash and freeze, even when I wiped and reflashed it. Unfortunately, the 4.2 ROMs are okay but lack some features. For example, I've seen some complained that the dock keyboard isn't fully functional. One of my complaints with the custom ROMs that I've tried is that Google Talk crashes anytime I try voice/video chat.
I'll still use, but I admit that I covet a newer tablet with the quad core.

Keyboard dock and Google Talk fully working here on 4.2, although I'd rather use Google+ Hangout for video chat.

Keep tf700 or wait for tegra 4?

I bought the tf700 about 2 weeks ago from best buy using the 50$ coupon that best buy messed up on. I actually bought it for 419 w/ tax going up to 450 which also includes the dock. Is this a good price for this? Well I have 2 weeks left for a full refund and I'm still debating if I should get a refund and wait for tegra 4 tablets or just keep it. There is slight flex on the screen which makes a clicking noise when I press on it but it doesn't really bother me. At first I was looking into ultrabooks but I gave tablet a try. Besides it's hard to find i5 ultrabooks for under 500. Help me decide!!

That is a good price IMO.
I'd say this is a factor of your budget and how much you use your tablet. I got the first Android tablet, a Motorola Xoom, on launch day. I had it for a few months and used it a lot then decided to sell it prematurely in order to wait for the next best thing which in my eyes was an HD screen. Well I ended up having to wait almost a year before I got my next tablet, a TF700. That entire year I was kicking myself for not holding on to the Xoom until I actually had another tablet in my possession.
So I guess you have to ask yourself how important to you is having a tablet? At that price I'm guessing you could probably sell it for a ~$100 loss a few months down the road. Who knows though the next generation of tablets might take longer to come out, like the delay we had on the 1080P tablets. With that in mind, if I were you, I'd keep it!

$450.00 for tab and dock?
I'd say that's a good deal.
If the click bugs you trade that in for one that doesn't click.

Just picked up a TF700 myself and I was literally asking myself the same question. I've got a little less than 60 days to return this to BBY if another tab is announced for release soon.
I guess, there are a few things to consider.
1) Is the better performance/battery life of the new device going to be significant? If they jack up the resolution like the N10, it will probably be closer to par with the TF700.
2) Will a new tablet have any hardware issues (e.g. TF-Prime GPS & Wifi problems)? The TF700 is a mature product and it's limitations are well outlined. If you buy a TF700 now, you know exactly what you are going to get.
3) What new features will be on this Tab, and are they worth waiting for? TF700 has SDXC, mini HDMI, a dock with full USB, Full HD, etc. It's a good feature set. TF700 is a bit low on ram with only 1GB, I'd rather have 2GB. It's missing an integrated LTE modem that is said to be in T4, but TBH, I would always buy the wifi version anyway. Better battery life, I wouldn't pay for the extra data plan, and my phone is now tethering fine (thanks TrevE). N10 like resolution looks impressive on paper, but not so in person. I have good eyesight, and the difference isn't noticeable. It's an advertising point over the ipad. Google needs to stop chasing Apple and build more hardware features into their tablets that Apple didn't already do a year ago, but I digress.
4) Are there any applications you cannot run on the TF700 that a new tab would fix? I picked u the TF700 because my Touchpad (running CM9) keeps crashing skype; which I use daily. I run a somewhat recent nightly, and since the Camera fix (thanks for that Dorregaray) being able to use skype at all is awesome. However, having to reboot the tablet 6 times in a night and constantly mucking up the conversation is real pain. Since using the TF700, I haven't had one hiccup in skype. That is worth a lot to me, but a newer tab won't make it better.
Anyway, those are the things I've been mulling over. I will need to see what the new Transformer will look like before I make any kind of decision.
Edit: FWIW, I paid $468 for the tab & a 32GB micro sdxc card. I think you got the better deal.

Have they given a release date for any Tegra4 device? I thought one was shown at the last electronics show but it was still a development model and didn't mention anything about release times or price. You could be waiting awhile and in meantime if you keep the TF700 start stashing away some money monthly for the next wave of tablets. That could help on any loss you take or cover the difference to a model with more storage.

1 - I don't think anyone can tell what the performance and battery life will be like right now. New devices and cpu's are marketed as more performance while reducing energy needs but the tech community needs products to test before accepting what is said as fact. Are Tegra4 chps supposed to run at the same power that today's Tegra3 chips do but have the better performance? That is a performance improvement while reducing the power needed if they were to make a Tegra3 to equal that performance. Someone may have a better answer regarding power saving but remember a bumped up screen size will probably draw more power anyway.
2 - Again probably hard to answer. Until the product hits the market we really won't know how it performs and what problems it may or may not have. It is a risk you take by buying the next and greatest device. Prime was the next and greatest device and we know how that turned out. We can only hope they get the message after 3 devices that they need better I/O components.
4 - As far as applications I think many people have issue with games that are released or already out and "not supported" by our device. It will take some time once a new device comes out for companies to tweak the code or whatever they do to have the games run on the device. That is done on their whim. Why some haven't not done now on the TF700 (Gameloft and EA) is a question I don't think anyone truly knows. Some guess it's screen resolution and they don't want to change the code to render the graphics properly for our device.
But really you can wait and wait and still not be satisfied because something else is a few months away. This technology is moving fast.

Well, I had really wanted a "Wayne" (Tegra 4) device, and was waiting for that to launch to replace/augment the touchpad. The marketing slides showing kepler tech integrated into the SoC is actually a little bit exicting to me. However, I took advantage of a time limited offer to get the TFI at a reduced price. I use google docs for invoicing clients, and the Touchpad wasn't handling that well enough for me to do it on site. I found myself just waiting to get home to do it & emailing an invoice back. The TFI with the keyboard dock provides an excellent solution, and I had considered getting an ultra book for this purpose, but at about half the price of the ultrabook I was looking at, while fulfilling essentially the same purpose, having the same size profile, and better battery life, well it seemed like the better bargain.
That said, if I could get my hands on a next gen transformer within the next 60 days, I'd likely trade this in, in a heart beat.

My opinion the TF700T is viable for a while longer.
Glad the FHD tabs didn't shoot of into a numbers game as quick as I thought they would.
All I can say is after the "lobotomy" lol...my tablet has been a satisfying adventure.
It's smooth no jitters, games well (light gaming), plays my Xfinity downloads without a hitch, wifi connects stays connected, gps is quick,
browser is hanging in there...etc.
Just for a bit of comparison:
I've side by sided the tablet with my 2 year old HP AMD A6 notebook, and for what it is the tab has about the same amount of annoyance that a Win7 notebook has.
Not comparing Windows to Android just noting all devices big and small can of course suffer glitchiness.
Once the system settles in and with a little restraint as far as collecting\installing poorly written apps the Infinity remains a buy at least for me.
Hopefully when the newer tabs start popping perhaps some of us hold-outs will benefit from a much better selection of HD tablet applications.

Google needs to stop chasing Apple and build more hardware features into their tablets that Apple didn't already do a year ago, but I digress.
4) Are there any applications you cannot run on the TF700 that a new tab would fix? I picked u the TF700 because my Touchpad (running CM9) keeps crashing skype; which I use daily. I run a somewhat recent nightly, and since the Camera fix (thanks for that Dorregaray) being able to use skype at all is awesome. However, having to reboot the tablet 6 times in a night and constantly mucking up the conversation is real pain. Since using the TF700, I haven't had one hiccup in skype. That is worth a lot to me, but a newer tab won't make it better.
Anyway, those are the things I've been mulling over. I will need to see what the new Transformer will look like before I make any kind of decision.
Edit: FWIW, I paid $468 for the tab & a 32GB micro sdxc card. I think you got the better deal.

How did you get the 60 day refund period? On my best buy receipt it states 30 days hassle free returns. Also it's a little weird that my tf700 freezes and randomly reboots. It doesn't do it frequently but once in awhile it does that.....very weird. This is actually my second tablet because the first one had slight flex but the current one actually makes a small clicking noise too. Honestly it doens't really bother me but ASus def needs to work on their quality control

Personally, waiting for the next tablet from ASUS (I assume you want a Transformer tablet) will be a very painful experience. Our tf700 was announced at CES 2012 (in January 2012), but only became available for sale at least 4 months later (depend on your location). Given the fact that ASUS has not announced any successor to our Infinity yet, I am inclined to believe if there is a Tegra 4 tablet from ASUS, it will only be available to us on the second half of the year. I have been waiting for the Transformer Book for many months but it is still not available. To me, waiting for something that is not even announced yet is a waste of time and effort.

I would strongly reccomend this tab to anyone who needs something with similar functionality to a netbook or ultrabook but I am looking forward to see what will come next. I would love to see something with a little more power hit the same nitch and with about the same price point... I'm actually waiting on the razer edge tablet to see what it turns into. anyways, I plan on hanging on to my TF700 even if I do get an ultrabook or the edge.

Premier Silver. Drop enough cash at best buy and you get side benefits, like a doubled return period. Most of the the other benefits are less useful. I don't bother with the complimentary Geek Squad services, for example. Even if I wanted or needed their services (I don't), I still wouldn't use it. Mostly, that's just an opportunity for them to come into your home and look for things they can sell you.

Honestly. ...maybe a extra gig of ram would make this tablet perfect for me. The resolution is ideal for me and the speed is great (running CleanRom) and it does what I hope to get from it. And I use my note 2 for the extra stuff (multi window, nfc sharing etc). And to top that, the mobile giants still have not made 100% use of the quad core as it is and until then, asus infinity is a keeper.

Tegra 4 isn't shipping until QTR 3 2013. Given that time frame, I'm reasonably happy with my purchase. If the SoC isn't even shipping until then, you won't see devices until QTR 4, and that's nearly a year away. No doubt there will be better performers from Qualcomm sooner than that, but even so, I'm happy with the device I have for now.

searched but haven't even found rumors on a successor - had the TFPrime before and since it got nicked I am waiting for sth new to play with.
Have started considering the Samsung Tab Plus (whenever announced) given the higher res. Still seems that the TF700 has enough muscles and the add keyboard (+battery) is clearly a plus...
Anyhow - have there been any news on the TF700 successor that I missed
Its becomming a bit rusty given the time its already in the market :laugh:

I have to agree about the extra gig of ram. But in response to the OP's question, yes that is a very good price. You could always dualboot it with rabbits' linux so as to gain some of the functionality that you would get with an ultrabook. The infinity will not become redundant for a while yet in my opinion so I say go for it.

For tablet with awesome dock integration the tf700 cant be beat. You also got a great deal on both. As far at Tegra 4 devices in particular Asus ones, no one knows yet when they will actually release one so you will have to play the waiting game. Vizio is the only one I know of that is coming out with one but not sold in the U.S. and doesn't have a keyboard dock option.
As someone mentioned the tf700 is a good laptop or netbook replacement. So if you're not going to play high graphic games on it like gameloft games then its a good tablet. But I do recommend you unlock and install custom rom on it as it lags quite a bit in stock form.

Unless the device has a battery-powered dock, I'd suspect battery life is going to be on par at best -- expect it to be worse. This may not apply if the new device carries one of those funky new battery design which last for a week and are charged in 10 minutes, but those will only get on the market in about two years, they reckon.

Obviously true, and very significant remark. Any device will have its issues, and given the fact that the TF201 suffered from some of these as well, I'd not expect the next Transformer to be faultless either. :S

And the N10 has both QA and availability issues, for example.
Following your digression for a bit: Apple had already lost the innovation game in the tablet and smartphone worlds a few years ago. All they have done is increase screen size, and (sometimes) resolution.

If anything, the older device will probably support more apps altogether -- if you have experienced the transitions from Froyo to Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean, you have noticed that we lost a lot of apps along the way that were pretty good in themselves, but just weren't given the TLC to update them to function on the new version. Backward compatibility is less of an issue when the programmer takes it into account when developing his/her app, but too often an app is just hacked together and subsequently, essentially, abandoned.[/QUOTE]
