For some reasons i can't seem to find my Unlock code via hex editor.
I Rooted the phone and followed the tutorial to extract the bml5.img out of the phone
then i used an hex editor to find the code.
After searching for the line of code which was supposed to have the unlock code written thru it, the hex editor was not finding it.
So now im confused. I scrolled for like 1-2 hours to find the spot but found nothing. Is there any way this could go faster and easier to find ?

When I try to edit a string in cmhomeres.dll, at the end of each text line there is a \0x00 which is lost when saving the change (for all the strings in that resource number and not only for the particular line I'm trying to change). And if I type the \0x00 then the result is \\0x00.
I'm using PE Explorer and followed the instructions given in it's help (under How to edit stringtable strings). Tried both explained methods.
(Did a forum search and found no help for this subject).
What am I doing wrong?
Well.... 0x00 is a null-character, so it is impossible to replicate (as far as I am aware). What are the effects of modifying the string, excluding the \0x00 and running it on your phone? Are there errors? [ Did you remember to re-sign the DLL ... You can find the signer by searching the forum...] I haven't actually changed strings in the cmhome DLL...so I am not so sure on the subject.
Unsign - edit - sign. Yes, those steps were followed.
PE Explorer's help states that each line of the stringtable must end with a null character but so far I have not been able to force it into the text.
Tried with ResHacker but using that one the null-char in not even visible.
If I save to a text file, edit there and reintroduce into the dll now I even get CR-LF chars
Have not tried copying the file without null-chars to phone for testing because the help file already raised a flag about null-char and afraid to brick it.
Hi all,
I have been using Captivate for a while, rooted and flashed with new rom's etc....now I want to unlock it to use on other carriers and cant find /efs/nv_data.bin file...looks like I might have deleted this partition...
is there any other way to unlock with out the original nv_data.bin file? my phone does show me correct IMEI number so..is there a way to find the unlock code based on that IMEI number?
appreciate all your help.
I did a master clear and flashed it back to original rom with Odin but still can't seem to find /efs/nv_data.bin ??
I only have 3 folders now..
Android
DCIM
sd
You can not see the file with the stock file manager. You need to root then use either root explorer or super manager
MIUI
search for galaxy s unlock by Herloz in the market. i have a used cappy with a corrupt nv_data.bin, and using super one click returned the fffffffff code. the app worked a treat and the unlock has stayed thru a few roms now. it doesn't repair the code but does the trick.
Hi!
I have downloaded .qcn file from my i780 via QPST tools. By experiment changed nv item 85 NV_SEC_CODE_I (SPC) from 000000 (hex 3030303030330) to hex (000000000000) and wrote qcn back to phone. writing to phone failed at 8% (possible at item85). Now I can only look some items but cant change SPC, cos it needs 6 digits input (in my case is NULL).
Is there any chance to write new code to phone?
Used PSAS (revskills) allows to dump code but not to cnange. Folder NVM is not accessable. locked..
Thank you very much with advice.
Dima.
I found my SPC cnanged to AAAAAA (414141414141). In EFS explorer its passes ok, in Software downloader it doesnt allow to type chars.. is any idea how to change manually?
I am following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980157&highlight=bml3
And I can't find the find in using the andriod emulator,
I have used the ls command, went around checking if bml3 exists. With no avail, and yes I have the superuser permission. I got root explorer and tried to search then as well, but I only find this file "bml12" ?
I need to unlock this phone by tomorrow, any help would be really appreciated ? Thanks
Found the solution
The emulator terminal was not working for me because the bml3.bak file didn't exist for some reason, Insted get this from file nv_data.bin from efs/root/afs/settings. You can use this app OI file manager to easily copy it, also if you can't find this file you can Root explorer app.
And also the 010 hex editor is know 010 editor now, and the modified settings is Line width>custom width>set to 32 . You can then find the 8-ASCII digits on the third window panel .Thank you for all the help ,
I hope i have this in the right forum. I am trying to edit some of the code for my android firmware. Mainly Aboot.bin but i can't find a program or site that will decode the code to plain text so i can read what everything says. I want to read it so that i don't mess up my phone if i edit the wrong line and then flash it to the phone. Im using Win7 if that helps any.
Will Some One Plz tell me a program that decodes on Windows Machines?
Thank You
