Big Lots had this tablet on sale this week for $80. It has crappy resolution(800x480) but does have 1gb of ram and Android 4.0.4 so I would give it a try. Out of the box it didn't support tablet optimized apps or setting so i had to add a line to the build.prop to fix it. Then I just did the usual things ot add the Play store and Gapps. I have the files and instructions if you pick this tablet up and want to get yourself going quickly.

EDIT: Have CWR working. Next is to try CM10
Will try this when I get back intown

My mom asked me about this tablet, After researching I told her this would be a pretty decent tablet for kids. So she picked up a few of these for my nephews for X-mas gift so they will stop fighting for/over hers. This will be excellent to get play, change res & gapps. Thanks for this. I'll post back with results.
i purchased one of these at biglots today and it allready quit working. i didnt try to root it or install playstore. the appstore that came with it was buggy for me and the thing crashed the first time i used the browser. i had to use the reset buton and now it wont boot past android guy so going back tomorrow.
baught another one today. there was a hissing from the speaker. turned it off and it would not turn back on. didn't even leave the parking lot with this one. has anyone else had bad luck with these. should i try again if they get more in
What are the pros and cons of switching the default resolution (big) to a smaller setting?
bought mine a week ago
I just bought mine a week ago, and it is a very nice tablet not for it's price, just a nice tablet. plues are
-wifi, it works very well good range.
-fast enough processor 1.2 ghz plays temple run no hicups, I have'nt had anything acting funny or anything like that.
-muti touch works great 5 points of touch
-USB port, it comes with a mini USB, but has connecction that makes it a full USB port. so far I only tried a keyboard and it worked perfectly ( thats what I am typing this with
-front facing web cam. it works though
-micro sd
3-4 gigs of storage. it saids 4 gigs but I only see 3
negatives
- it did'nt come with play store. I had to install it myself by hooking it up to the computer and getting some script and connecting tablet through ABS or something like that. I'm no expert it took me about 30 min. to do.
-no bluetooth
-no gps
-no fifty core processor
-no camera on the back ( its a tablet it should'nt have one)
all in all I got this tablet for $71 at big lots on sale, and it is normally $80. If you just want a good tablet that will go on the internet, play most games and apps ( netflix, flash, templerun) then you won't be diapointed, if you want a $200 dollar tablet buy a nexus 7
D2 hardware change?
Hello everyone,
Yesterday I picked two D2 Pads on BigLots but I just want to inform that it has been a hardware specification change (downgrade).
Please take a look at the photos I included, but basically the D2 has been downgraded to:
512 MB RAM
1 Ghz CPU
LCD Screen with bad viewing angles!
Also the hardware buttons have been moved from the top to the right side of the tablet, so this clearly indicates it's different hardware.
It's no longer as smooth as the original D2 Pad, but all in all, it's good for kids and the casual web surfer/social network user I guess.
Cheers!
Rayan
Not good.

Is there any custom ROMs that support Bluetooth dongles?

Does this affect the WiFi speeds? I have slow WiFi speed only on this tablet and the only thing I did was these tweaks here. Is it the tablet or something else. just curious to see of I revert back with the official update would it fix it.

Flashed 2 of the 512mb models for Christmas gifts, they work pretty well.
So, I saw there was the 1gb ddr3 model and picked one up for myself.
Just got it in, decided to play with it.

Can you point me to the guide you followed to flash your 512mb D2?
For some reason I'm having a hard time accomplishing such a simple task on the D2 lol...
Thanks!

Hello XDA I need help with finding a Tablet.
I've narrowed my search down to two devices. A Nook Tablet, and Kindle Fire. Here's the run down on the basic specs.
CPU: Both have the Same TI-OMAP 4 Duel Core Chip. Which has Bluetooth (Not yet possible) Fm Radio (Not yet possible).
Screen: Same 7" IPS Screen. 1024x600 Resolution. 169 PPI
Kindle Fire Nook Tablet
Ram: 512MB 1G (16G) 512Mb(8G)
Storage: 8G Flash 16 or 8 G
No SD Up to 32G with Micro SD.
Battery: 8 Hours (No Wifi) 11.5 (No Wifi)
7.5 Hours Video Play Back (No WiFi) 9 Hours Video (No Wifi)
Other: Ambient Light Sensor Built In Mic
Stereo Speaker
Price: $200 New $250 16G
$170 Refurbished $200 8G
The Kindle Fire has an epic Dev Community, and many many Great Roms. With a 3.0 Kernel in the works.
The Nook Tablet has a Similar Community as us, and a 3.0 Kernel.
I'm wanting the cheapest Tablet possible. I'm a poor college student, and I just want something to play games on. Watch Netflix and Hulu. I do cloud Storage.
So XDA, what do you think? (Also keep the thread clean of stupid remarks)
Added Poll Please Vote
You should space out your post more, it's all bunched together in the comparison section.
Overall though, I would go with the nook tablet. It gives you more staorage with an expandable memory slot. The Fire started the whole cheap tablet craze, but no micro sd slot is a real turn off. Can't always be syncing stuff to and from the cloud.
If you need to buy now, go for the Fire. If you can wait, Google and Asus are working on a Tablet that should launch sometime this summer.
I bought my partner an HTC Flyer 8GB Wi-Fi tablet that we absolutely love. Has 1GB for apps, 8GB built in "sd" storage and slot for additional storage (I put in a Class 10 32GB card but others now report it can accept the new 64GB cards, too). 7" screen, fast CPU, dual-cameras, GPS. It comes with Gingerbread but there is an OTA upgrade to Honeycomb 3.2. I have not done the Honeycomb upgrade because there are pros/cons to doing so. There is also a very active developer community for the Flyer. I bought it for $199.

The Flyer has a Virtuous Support, and any Device with V support I love. Currently I can get a refurbished Kindle for 170. But I'll check out the Flyer That Duel-Core is kinda a must now. I'll check some Youtube Videos.

I know this wasn't one of your options, but you should really consider a touchpad. I got mine recently and love it. Fairly active dev community, good ROM selection, and FAST. Trust me, the dual core and 1 gig of RAM help a lot. One or two minor issues, camera does not work in ICS, and wifi is occasionally flaky, but I hardly notice either of them. You can dual boot into either webos or android, and hp has promised source code this summer so all issues on the android side should be solved then.
Just my .02. But I pretty much guarantee that if you get the touchpad, you will not regret it.

I jumped the Gun. 32G HP Touchpad, allready on ICS 4.0.4. Everything but the Camera's work, and that's a Kernel Issue. But my Mother is buying a T-Mobile Flyer. She saw it was HTC, and had a pen. Bought a 32G GSM Unlocked Version from Cownow (What ever best buys warehouse store is). Only cost 275. Not bad for her, does everthing she needs.

I may be late to the game, but my girlfriend has a Kindle Fire and I have the Nook Tablet. They're both pretty damn good, but quite frankly the only thing I like more about the Nook is the dedicated home button. It's my favorite part about the thing, because the fact is that they're pretty much the exact same thing. There are some sweet cases for the Kindle Fire. Other than that, if you're going to root them then there is plenty of support for both.

You're neglecting the fact that the NT has a SD slot, allowing for more root options. You can boot CM7 off of the SD card, but it was easier for me to do that through internal memory.

Give the NT another month or so.
I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this so if it is, sorry to the mod who's in charge.
Anyone who's in the market for a decent, inexpensive, intro tablet should check this one out. I got mine at geeks.com a few days ago.
First off, and most importantly, it comes already rooted. One of the first things I did was to install Titanium Backup and Rom Manager. I was a little surprised to see that root was checked in Titanium Backup. Once Rom Manager was installed I easily installed Clockword Mod and was off trying out a few other roms.
The hardware is as follows:
CPU: ARMv7 (VFPv3, NEON) @ 1200MHz
GPU: Mali-400 MP (OpenGL ES 2.0)
Screen: 600x800 capacitive touch screen
Add'l items: microSDHC slot, mini HDMI out, mini USB, front facing camera & mic.
You can see the rest of the specs at geeks.com but for the money it's a pretty good little tablet, IMHO...plus comes rooted so no need to research anything or mess around with adb
If anyone has any questions, give me a shout.

kosaco 8"
I have been seeing a TON of ads about these different models of late all very reasonably priced but almost NO real information about them
for example your post is the 1st time I have seen someoen say its an ARM7 CPU.
That being said, I have been working on a GTAB for over a year so kind of lost touch on the different cpu classifications, how would that stack up against an ARM9 or CortexA10?
I've owned several tablets, everything from an Augen to a Pnandtech to 3 color nooks (still in action) to the GTAB that got run over last week.
So now Im in the market. I really prefer the 10" screens (had a Z180 before the GTAB), but the nook is growing on me.
The only 2 things that most ads seem to differentiate between kosaco models for example is the 730's and 760's seem to be 7" screen your 830 apparently is an 8" screen and then the version of android thats pre installed.
I have seen some w/ 2.2.3 and many w/ ICS (4)
Now that youve had a few more days to play can you give us a real breakdown on what your finding?
have you owbned any other tablets prev?
Thanks
J
any idea on how to get ICS or HC running on this tab? I bought it and it seems like a pretty aewsome budget tab but i was hoping to get a newer version of android running on it.
have you found the makers website?

I actually just bout a KOCASO MID-M760 7" Android 4.0 and love it!!!
My only problem is, because there's so little information about it on-line, other than sellers, I can't figure out what to use to root it to save my life.
Which is EXTREMELY frustrating because after I purchased it, I saw that the next model up comes pre-rooted out of the box.
Anybody know how to root this sucker!?
I'd love to drop CM7 on it like I have on my phone.
Thanks in advance to ANYBODY that can point me in the right direction!

Root kocaso m760
Hi, this works. Rooted a m760 no problems

Can't post link as site admiri won't allow but hope you can work it out by adding the www at the start and HTML at the end of link
Also the m762 firmware on mymidpad.com has been confirmed by kocaso as the compatible firmware for this model, I can't figure out how to put it into recovery though to use the livesuite software. Pressing volume - and the power button 10 times does not work as per similar models!

Hi there,
I'm looking for my first tablet... Here's what i want to do with it :
- Read mails and surf on web (avoid to go on desktop computer in a separate room...)
- Read eBooks and view Film in train
- Play games! (NOVA3 and over more recent games...) maybe buy a Bluetooth game pad to play on TV after?
As you can see, it would be for travel too... So i first think about Nexus 7. But when i see it, it's just too small...
What about TF300T (with keyboard)?
- TF300T has a good fallowing? (Does it pass to 4.2 soon? as example)
- all games work ok on it? (specially Gameloft)
- any fealing or regret for some of you?
- Is it still the good time to buy a TF300T (which begin to be a bit old, no?)
Thanks in advance....

I'm very happy with my tf300t 32gb. The 10 inch screen is very nice. I've read a good bit about the keyboard and have decided to purchase one soon. As for 4.2, I read that Asus is in beta testing and it should be released before the end of the year.

I owned a 32gb with dock for about 6 months. I sold it for the nexus 10. For me, I used it for surfing, a little gaming, loved it while traveling, especially with the keyboard dock. My main problem was the I/O especially on web browsing. Don't get me wrong, its a great device, just not the one for me. I did lots of research, questions on here, reviews comparisons on YouTube and went with the nexus 10. Should be her Monday!!
From other members on here who came from the tf brand they said the performance is very noticible.
Granted there are some great things, expandable storage, and the keyboard dock. The performance just wasn't there for me..
Do some research before you pull the trigger

For me it was wait errors and then close browser or wait. It happened often, or it was just slow. When I would use the iPad it was so clean, and quick with pages loading. From what I hear the nexus 10 is leaps ahead of the tf300. The tf300 is older gen quad core. The nexus 10 brand new dual core, that outperformed the tegra processors.
Its just had to explain, it was just slow, sometimes felt like 30+ seconds to load.. let me find you a YouTube video about this...

Yes, that's a big plus for me too - but with Stock ROM I got some browser closes when I had opened many tabs - also some games were laaging a bit, so I'd recommend you to unlock and flash a Custom ROM (I do it on every of my Android devices :laugh
I think at the moment TF300T (or TF700T, but for just a display difference TF700 is too expensive compared with TF300)and Nexus 10 are the best 10 inch tablets, but Nexus 10 has only 16GB what is just not enough if you want to watch movies and play (Gameloft) games while travelling, because both things just need much space...
So I can really recommend you this tab, I've had no problems so far and it was really worth the money (Except when it fell on the floor once and had a grey screen and I thought Tab was broken - unfortunately just RAM was ****ed up for the moment, Reboot "fixed" this )
I was in your position a few months ago but went ahead and purchased one after selling my Xoom. At first I was a little unsure if I had done the right thing and there were a few performance problems but after unlocking, rooting and installing custom ROMs any problems i had have now completely been eliminated.
With the dock the and extra storage you really can't go wrong. I'd recommend buying one but only if your prepared to unlock and root it. There are plenty of guides in these forums and a whole bunch of helpful people if you get stuck.
Iam currently running the CleanRom 2.7 Rom and it's absolutely amazing, my tablet is flying along rather nicely

I ordered this exact tablet last week and it just came in the mail. It's an impressive piece of hardware with very little bloatware out of the box, but Jellybean takes up a lot of RAM by default (1/2 is being used just by the thing being turned on). I'd like to figure out the best method to root it at least, though my ideal goal is to put a ROM of an earlier release of the Android OS on it, I'm quite partial to Gingerbread to be entirely honest since it tends to use a lot less RAM and CPU power to run on similar hardware I've used before.
EDIT: Hopefully someone with actual experience can look into rooting this tablet, I tried using some typical "generic Android tablet root" techniques and nothing is working.
How to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE
Hi. Could anyone tell me how to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE ? I just bought it for several days. There is something wrong for restart after I installed some Apps from Google play and play some of them to change the default settings. Better provide me with ROM of this tablet, My email is [email protected]. Thanks! Jeff
I got kinda suckered into buying one of you too. They were so cheap so I figured why not. My main complaints are that the operating system seems to be the part that's making it so laggy. When it's actually performing a task it works fairly well. I use NHL GameCenter and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the streaming for work. SwiftKey keyboard is really laggy and unusable entirely. Also, Chrome seems to be impossible to use because of the lag. Other than that though everything else seems to run fairly smooth so I think it's more of an operating system issue than power issue. The battery is good it sounds good the screen is OK touch screen works...but if I can't use chrome or watch NHL games,I might have to return it.

Tablet seems to perform fairly well in games but is laggy at times on web surfing. As the previous poster noted Chrome is almost unusable it is so laggy. Video apps seem to perform well after they load up. If an item is being downloaded in the background tablet is very laggy. I tend to agree with the previous poster that the main problem is the operating system. Maybe an update to 4.3 will come soon and improve performance.

Yeah I noticed the background downloading slowing it to a crawl. I think that's an issue with the kernel or memory read speed. There are some tweaks that we will be able to do once a working recovery is available that will fix that. Network speed too. I speed checked it and im getting 35mbs so the issue isn't the WiFi unit itself, its just software. I'm hoping somebody will make a nice custom ROM for us

If you want to restore it to factory settings you can do that in the current recovery.

Can't root
I bought one of these and I still can find a successful rooting procedure. I can't even get into the recovery. Can anyone help?

hannspree 10.1
Hi, I have the hannspree 10.1, its OK if you limit your apps which shouldn't be the case considering the spec, does anyone know how to root, would really appreciate any help, thanks

hansspree 10.1
nothing out yet...it's just the os on it that sucks...just upgraded to 4.2.2 and it even slower...once theres a rom it will eliminate all the bloat in it...just hold on to it and wait...you will not get a quad core for that price...
Its a really terrible a5 based quad-core.. A dual core a9 would run circles around it. There isn't really any bloat in the rom, they didn't do much of anything to it. No custom rom is gonna upgrade the cpu or craptastic generic gpu. If you can return it, go do that. If you can't, I'm sorry, but it's never going to respond like an a9. It sucks that actions is full of lies, and Hannspree bought them, and retailers don't care what they are selling you.

After the update to 4.2.2, this thing is horrid slow. I had high hopes for this tablet. Now I'm kind regretting it. Until a better ROM is built with a custom kernel we are screwed.

I agree 100%, 4.2. Update is worse than original. Try downloading CPU tuner and pimp my ROM from play store it will help, until custom ROM is built.

Appears to have had memory issues. In process of RMA.

So I just found out that the UK variant is running KitKat. If some can find anyone in the UK that can pull the rom for it, we can get this running much better than it currently is.
Can anyone point me into a direction where I could find the operation system and how to install
Hi, I saw today that Nvidia are releasing a refreshed tablet, with the same specs, but just without some features.
It doesn't include the pen (even though you can buy one for 14.99£), it only comes in 16GB (MicroSD), and there is no usb and plug with it, for me that is fine because I have at least 5.
But the price!! Only £149.99 for pre-order (199$ I think). Nvidia is pretty new to me (apart from their graphics cards), so is it really worth it? I plan to use it for streaming apps (If I can still do that since it runs Android) and stream BO3 and FIFA 16 from my PC and play with the controller (49.99£)
So the question to you owners, is it worth the £149.99 or should I get a Tab S2 for £250.00?
Thanks

With the Tab S2 you will never get the performance you get with the Tegra K1. Have the Shield Tab and its great!

Thanks, I was hoping that the performance was better, even though the S2 had 3GB RAM (TouchWiz ruins it).
How different is the UI from Stock AOSP Lollipop, and does it still have the Play Store.
Sorry that I ask such stupid questions, I do not want to spend over 100 pounds on a item I am not familiar with.

Its not only Touchwiz, as i know the S2 hasn't the exynos 7420 like the s6, so everything else isn't as powerfull as the K1.The Shield runs stock Android 5.1.1 with sime little gimmiks from nvidia, i find it even better as pure stock. And 6.0 should arrive untill the und of the year, but isn't really sure if.
I have shield tablet 1 and I can clearing say its 100% stock just like a pure nexus device, a little bit of unnecessary apps, nothing major compared to touchwiz. You can always root and remove things if you want.
The tablet runs flawlessly hardly experienced any lag in apps or loading of apps, compare that to touchwiz phone or tab, you will get lag of some sort
My honest opinion is that it's a great tablet, probs the best I have had. I have streamed a few games eg, MK10 and Batman Origins, run great and smoothly.

Yes, I live with the struggle of Exynos and its development... Pure stock however sounds amazing. I am sure to get it now with the controller. £200 for the tablet with a controller, how convenient. Probably have to add another £20 for a 64GB Class 10 MicroSD Card...
Thank you for explaining everything At least this has CM.

It should be since it has the same hardware. It might need like a little patch but I'm pretty sure it'll still work
I know some people probably wanted an upgrade with the new tablet, rather than essentially the same thing, but I think it would still be a great buy at $199. That's just an outstanding price point (and really kills the used market for the first tablet, Swappa and eBay sellers must be pissed).
It's still one of the most powerful tablets out there. I assume they've worked out some of the hardware quirks from the first model, and even with the first model the software issues along the way (like the crappy 5.0 update) smoothed out with the last couple updates.

To my understanding, they are still using the same Tegra K1 processor that was found in the older shield tablet.

I called Nvidia and they say it's the same, so I cancelled my order and will wait on the improved version with better screen and processor
It's the screen that's bugging me on this thing...every review of the new and old one said that it was hard to see in daylight. My most common use is on the bus, so if I can't read it in daylight, it's of no use!
At the same time, my current tablet is the 2012 Nexus 7 and it looks like it might have a worse screen, so maybe this tablet is a screen upgrade?
Bugs me that they make this announcement out of nowhere. Means there could be an upgraded version just around the corner and we wouldn't know it...
I'm glad managed to sell my replaced tablet for £180. Btw the charger of the tablet is one of the bests stock charger I ever had.

Should I still buy one at today or is there a better alternative?
no better alternative with this price
I bought a nexus 9 2 weeks ago because there where no shield Tablet available. But I switched to the k1 and after 3 Days I'm still very happy to its the decision because yeah it saved a lot of money.

front facing speakers are worth it alone compared to the N9 imo
why nvidia use this processor caped to 32 bits? or this is what i know... and other tablets use the k1 with 64bits?
