I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this so if it is, sorry to the mod who's in charge.
Anyone who's in the market for a decent, inexpensive, intro tablet should check this one out. I got mine at geeks.com a few days ago.
First off, and most importantly, it comes already rooted. One of the first things I did was to install Titanium Backup and Rom Manager. I was a little surprised to see that root was checked in Titanium Backup. Once Rom Manager was installed I easily installed Clockword Mod and was off trying out a few other roms.
The hardware is as follows:
CPU: ARMv7 (VFPv3, NEON) @ 1200MHz
GPU: Mali-400 MP (OpenGL ES 2.0)
Screen: 600x800 capacitive touch screen
Add'l items: microSDHC slot, mini HDMI out, mini USB, front facing camera & mic.
You can see the rest of the specs at geeks.com but for the money it's a pretty good little tablet, IMHO...plus comes rooted so no need to research anything or mess around with adb
If anyone has any questions, give me a shout.

kosaco 8"
I have been seeing a TON of ads about these different models of late all very reasonably priced but almost NO real information about them
for example your post is the 1st time I have seen someoen say its an ARM7 CPU.
That being said, I have been working on a GTAB for over a year so kind of lost touch on the different cpu classifications, how would that stack up against an ARM9 or CortexA10?
I've owned several tablets, everything from an Augen to a Pnandtech to 3 color nooks (still in action) to the GTAB that got run over last week.
So now Im in the market. I really prefer the 10" screens (had a Z180 before the GTAB), but the nook is growing on me.
The only 2 things that most ads seem to differentiate between kosaco models for example is the 730's and 760's seem to be 7" screen your 830 apparently is an 8" screen and then the version of android thats pre installed.
I have seen some w/ 2.2.3 and many w/ ICS (4)
Now that youve had a few more days to play can you give us a real breakdown on what your finding?
have you owbned any other tablets prev?
Thanks
J
any idea on how to get ICS or HC running on this tab? I bought it and it seems like a pretty aewsome budget tab but i was hoping to get a newer version of android running on it.
have you found the makers website?
you mite start there, since they are now selling them on amazon w/ 4 they may have an update
i dont own one yet
their website is a landing page with just an image and I don't really see any support info

Manual and support software right there.
I actually just bout a KOCASO MID-M760 7" Android 4.0 and love it!!!
My only problem is, because there's so little information about it on-line, other than sellers, I can't figure out what to use to root it to save my life.
Which is EXTREMELY frustrating because after I purchased it, I saw that the next model up comes pre-rooted out of the box.
Anybody know how to root this sucker!?
I'd love to drop CM7 on it like I have on my phone.
Thanks in advance to ANYBODY that can point me in the right direction!

Root kocaso m760
Hi, this works. Rooted a m760 no problems
androidtablets.net/forum/ice-cream-sandwich/44223-rooting-kocaso-m760
Can't post link as site admiri won't allow but hope you can work it out by adding the www at the start and HTML at the end of link
Also the m762 firmware on mymidpad.com has been confirmed by kocaso as the compatible firmware for this model, I can't figure out how to put it into recovery though to use the livesuite software. Pressing volume - and the power button 10 times does not work as per similar models!
ROMs for Kosaco M762
I have a Kosaco M762, what ROMs did you flash to your Kocaso??? And where did you find them?
Thanks

offtopic... does the apad run any good? is it smooth?
Why is it off topic. It is a tablet that runs android. Do not have it yet so can't comment on how good or bad it runs.
i was asking an off topic question (i.e. not related to your question). guess i phrased my sentence wrongly. do post here on how well this device seems to perform.
I will. Thanks for your intrest.
You should of waited for the Notion's ADAM
I only paid $100.00 US for my tablet. This one is considerably more.

hey could you pm me the site where you purchased it from?
could you update your main post with the specs that you ordered from? Apparently there are Apad clones with crappy processors instead of the rockchip processors
Dealextreme has it for cheap
dealextreme is the crap version. the proper apad is the one with rockchip in it. and i found out that the cheapest apad with rockchip is ~150usd
i have one of those too.
with the rockchip which actually is not to bad of a processor. nowhere near the A4 but ok to work with.
it's an ARM derivative and consists of a cpu and dsp(gpu).
i would also like to know if anybody has played with it yet.
i followed the android instructions of building a development envirnment and have the tablet actually show up in eclipse but where to go from here?
sorry for threadjacking a bit
i would first of all like to be able to upgrade android. if possible 2.2 or at least to 1.6.
the device has the upgrade locked.
the are also language option conflicts were suggestive text and some keyboard keys still show up in (i guess) Chinese.
It'll most likely be impossible to upgrade the apad to 2.1/2.2 as rockchip dsp isn't actually a gpu, its a video processor for videos only.
on another note i have decided to pass up on the apad as it doesn't seem that "future-proof" most likely will get this http://www.wiipad.us/product.php?id_product=11 unless better options come out in the next 1 month or so
does android 2.x require a specialized dedicated gpu?
the dsp is essentially a gpu, it is capable of playing 720p video.
it should be plenty for android 2.x to get around
so i can move files from the device to the pc.
i copied the data and system folder.
what to do now?

Yeah but it decodes videos only, a gpu actually pumps out the graphics which is an intergral part of 2.1 onwards (also in the rockchip's specs i saw somewhere this chip does not support 2.1) The wiipad neno has a cortex a8 core which is similar to the ipad's processor so it is running on 2.1.

yes it can run almost every app out there, android market is not available out of the box, you have to flash a script then full market access is available. Some apps might not support the high resolution so they look a bit stretched... but there isn't an app that i have not been able to run yet.
Novo 7 Elf Development
Hey all,
I bought my Novo 7 Elf tablet with 4.0.3 stock rom from one of the many Chinese websites around. Boy did i make the right call on that tablet. IT.. IS... AWESOME!
The stock rom worked, but has a bunch of Chinese Apps installed. Luckily there are a lot of enthusiast out there who were also impressed with the little gadget.
A few days ago Ainol came out with an updated version of their stock 4.0.3 ICS version. The very same day the enthusiasts came out with a cleaned up, non-chinese, version of that rom.
Everything works, Market, all the Google apps, HDMI, youtube, you name it.
I'm keeping a tab on both XDA developers and the developers posting at Slatedroid to share as much info on this forum aswell, since this has always been my go-to forum for questions regarding Android. And with me, probably a few more ppl.
I will offcourse give ALL credit to the ppl who do the actual work, i'm just the messenger.
ATH
Have you installed the latest update that includes hardware acceleration.
No matter how buggy it could've been, I just couldn't go back to no hardware acceleration.

Cheers!

Ummm, I don't think so. The quality control alone that this company has with it's products will prevent it from "burning to the ground the kindle fire or nook tablet." The IPS Aurora that they produce has been a nightmare for a lot of folks.
That being said I am interested in their product....but I don't think they will sell a kazillion of them like Amazon did the KF.
Novo 7 Elf Development
Since i can not yet make posts in other parts of the forum, i'll stick to this thread.
Ive had my Elf now for nearly a month. STill very please with it. One of the new baked roms i found also contains an alternation for the buttons on top of the tabled to now act as volume buttons. So far this is the only downside to this tablet, that it initially didnt come with volume buttons. That being said, the new updated rom makes up for that, the touch screen works even smoother than it allready did and the general benchmark score has gone up quite a bit. Also the battery life has gone up a bit, but its still an android device....
On Ainol Novo 7 Aurora is ARM too ?

Can you share what ROM you are using to have the volume rocker working? I can even run Bejeweled 2 and Asphalt 6 HD Adrenaline (although it is harder to steer on the Elf than my Epic Touch)
I got mine Feb 27 and followed Colonel Zap tutorial now running at 1.4Ghz using AnTutu Battery Saver which allows for overclocking. I have the default set to 1296mhz but am getting up 1415CPU with overall of 1320 and 52FFPS testing Quadrant Standard.

I am using the rom posted here:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/293...lean-rom-v06-for-elf-repack-from-android-kun/
I use Android 4.0.3 v0.5.1 on 2 of my ELF tablets and v0.6 on 1 Elf. Both use the middle button on top as a volume rocker button. Both versions work great. not a real big difference.
Have you tried v1.0 that's posted in the Aurora section?
I'm using it and it's running nicely
(You need CWM to flash it)
Ive been too busy with my phone and fixing the backyard for the summer, so i havent checked that yet.

I've just recieved my Elf and am utterly enamoured with it, it's the best piece of kit I've bought in a very long time, and in my opinion is one of the best 7 inch tablets on the market today, far better than the big brands. Ok, no second camera or internal BT and gps, but the responsiveness, ports, screen and capability in general...lovely...[/advert]
Anyways, I have two questions,
1) as this device has USB otg, works as a host, I'm looking for a card reader that will work when attached to it, should any work or do they still need drivers or something?
2) because it doesn't have any BT components of it's own, I'm looking for a usb bluetooth dongle that will work, getting a dongle doesn't seem to be a problem, but I'm having trouble finding drivers that will work in Android ICS, does anyone know of any available?
Thank you.
Good questions, however i couldnt tell you. I would suggest posting your question on the Slatedroid forum, since there is a lot more activity going on around the Ainol tablets.

Big Lots had this tablet on sale this week for $80. It has crappy resolution(800x480) but does have 1gb of ram and Android 4.0.4 so I would give it a try. Out of the box it didn't support tablet optimized apps or setting so i had to add a line to the build.prop to fix it. Then I just did the usual things ot add the Play store and Gapps. I have the files and instructions if you pick this tablet up and want to get yourself going quickly.

Will try this when I get back intown

My mom asked me about this tablet, After researching I told her this would be a pretty decent tablet for kids. So she picked up a few of these for my nephews for X-mas gift so they will stop fighting for/over hers. This will be excellent to get play, change res & gapps. Thanks for this. I'll post back with results.
i purchased one of these at biglots today and it allready quit working. i didnt try to root it or install playstore. the appstore that came with it was buggy for me and the thing crashed the first time i used the browser. i had to use the reset buton and now it wont boot past android guy so going back tomorrow.
baught another one today. there was a hissing from the speaker. turned it off and it would not turn back on. didn't even leave the parking lot with this one. has anyone else had bad luck with these. should i try again if they get more in
What are the pros and cons of switching the default resolution (big) to a smaller setting?
bought mine a week ago
I just bought mine a week ago, and it is a very nice tablet not for it's price, just a nice tablet. plues are
-wifi, it works very well good range.
-fast enough processor 1.2 ghz plays temple run no hicups, I have'nt had anything acting funny or anything like that.
-muti touch works great 5 points of touch
-USB port, it comes with a mini USB, but has connecction that makes it a full USB port. so far I only tried a keyboard and it worked perfectly ( thats what I am typing this with
-front facing web cam. it works though
-micro sd
3-4 gigs of storage. it saids 4 gigs but I only see 3
negatives
- it did'nt come with play store. I had to install it myself by hooking it up to the computer and getting some script and connecting tablet through ABS or something like that. I'm no expert it took me about 30 min. to do.
-no bluetooth
-no gps
-no fifty core processor
-no camera on the back ( its a tablet it should'nt have one)
all in all I got this tablet for $71 at big lots on sale, and it is normally $80. If you just want a good tablet that will go on the internet, play most games and apps ( netflix, flash, templerun) then you won't be diapointed, if you want a $200 dollar tablet buy a nexus 7
D2 hardware change?
Hello everyone,
Yesterday I picked two D2 Pads on BigLots but I just want to inform that it has been a hardware specification change (downgrade).
Please take a look at the photos I included, but basically the D2 has been downgraded to:
512 MB RAM
1 Ghz CPU
LCD Screen with bad viewing angles!
Also the hardware buttons have been moved from the top to the right side of the tablet, so this clearly indicates it's different hardware.
It's no longer as smooth as the original D2 Pad, but all in all, it's good for kids and the casual web surfer/social network user I guess.
Cheers!

So my wife comes home giggling about how I'm gonna love this new toy she bought me from her black Friday spending spree.
This is what she brings home,

89$ tablet with an intel single core with HT, and I have to admit it is
really snappy and I'm very happy with the build quality. For 89$ this is a game changer for sure.
So I'm currently trying to root with shuame, no success as of yet. I'm using Koush's generic Adb drivers since Hp has nothing on its own device.
Gets 100mflops on linpack and I will put up more benchmarks later.
If anybody has this device and wants to start please feel free.
I was lucky enough to get the last one at my local Walmart this morning at 7am.... couldn't believe that there was still one left 13 hours later.
I am also impressed with its snappiness and build quality all for $89!
Running into a lot of compatibility issues trying to install apps from the playstore. So I came over here to see what my options are.
I am hoping to maybe follow a similar route as I did with my HP Touchpad, which is still running strong.
Thanks for any info!!

No root as of yet.
I have noticed some apps that say they are not compatible in the market.
I have purchased weather bug elite and it said not compatible, but i downloaded it from a 3rd party and it worked just fine. When I figure out the adb drivers and get a stable root, I'm gonna change the build prop to something more common.

Its right on the heels of the Samsung Nexus 10. If we can get some kernel support we could get some more power out of that intel chip. Hell Kit Kat is 64 bit and this is a 64 bit processor.
Also did you get an ota update?
bought one just earlier from my local Walmart, surprising there was 7 left in the closet.
noticed this is HP Tablet 7 1800 with Single Core w/ Intel Atom Z2460 processor x86,
the one sold most places like Staples are 2800 with Rear Camera and Dual Core Processor cost $30-40 more.
wonder what are the chances Developers will make a Port for Kit Kat for this Tablet 7 1800, which seems to be ONLY sold in Walmart. Different from Slate 7 series

Right now we need to work on rooting this tablet so we can mess with governors and such. Also finding an update.zip would also be nice for when we brick anything.
Edit:
I have successfully got the adb drivers to work and can connect to the tablet through adb. no luck with any scripts yet though.
I'm surprised so many people are liking it.

Yes sir you exploit is the only working root for this device.
We are running an x86 intel atom cpu so I guess thats why it worked.

I have requested the kernel source, it would be good to get as many people on that forum as possible asking for it.
Crap.... Just saw this Asus Memo for only $10 more, with several better specs

You guys should also follow the Razr I here on xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/razr-i
cause a lot of stuff that is related to our device is also related to yours (because of the Intel CPU)
As as the title states. I bought a Hannspree tab and wanted everyones opinion of this. From my own research this thing is a good tab just based off the cpu and ips panel.

Just ordered this exact tablet and am also wondering the same thing. I hope someone has some dev experience with this tablet.

I ordered this exact tablet last week and it just came in the mail. It's an impressive piece of hardware with very little bloatware out of the box, but Jellybean takes up a lot of RAM by default (1/2 is being used just by the thing being turned on). I'd like to figure out the best method to root it at least, though my ideal goal is to put a ROM of an earlier release of the Android OS on it, I'm quite partial to Gingerbread to be entirely honest since it tends to use a lot less RAM and CPU power to run on similar hardware I've used before.
EDIT: Hopefully someone with actual experience can look into rooting this tablet, I tried using some typical "generic Android tablet root" techniques and nothing is working.
How to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE
Hi. Could anyone tell me how to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE ? I just bought it for several days. There is something wrong for restart after I installed some Apps from Google play and play some of them to change the default settings. Better provide me with ROM of this tablet, My email is [email protected]. Thanks! Jeff
I got kinda suckered into buying one of you too. They were so cheap so I figured why not. My main complaints are that the operating system seems to be the part that's making it so laggy. When it's actually performing a task it works fairly well. I use NHL GameCenter and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the streaming for work. SwiftKey keyboard is really laggy and unusable entirely. Also, Chrome seems to be impossible to use because of the lag. Other than that though everything else seems to run fairly smooth so I think it's more of an operating system issue than power issue. The battery is good it sounds good the screen is OK touch screen works...but if I can't use chrome or watch NHL games,I might have to return it.

Tablet seems to perform fairly well in games but is laggy at times on web surfing. As the previous poster noted Chrome is almost unusable it is so laggy. Video apps seem to perform well after they load up. If an item is being downloaded in the background tablet is very laggy. I tend to agree with the previous poster that the main problem is the operating system. Maybe an update to 4.3 will come soon and improve performance.

Yeah I noticed the background downloading slowing it to a crawl. I think that's an issue with the kernel or memory read speed. There are some tweaks that we will be able to do once a working recovery is available that will fix that. Network speed too. I speed checked it and im getting 35mbs so the issue isn't the WiFi unit itself, its just software. I'm hoping somebody will make a nice custom ROM for us

If you want to restore it to factory settings you can do that in the current recovery.

hansspree 10.1
nothing out yet...it's just the os on it that sucks...just upgraded to 4.2.2 and it even slower...once theres a rom it will eliminate all the bloat in it...just hold on to it and wait...you will not get a quad core for that price...
Its a really terrible a5 based quad-core.. A dual core a9 would run circles around it. There isn't really any bloat in the rom, they didn't do much of anything to it. No custom rom is gonna upgrade the cpu or craptastic generic gpu. If you can return it, go do that. If you can't, I'm sorry, but it's never going to respond like an a9. It sucks that actions is full of lies, and Hannspree bought them, and retailers don't care what they are selling you.

After the update to 4.2.2, this thing is horrid slow. I had high hopes for this tablet. Now I'm kind regretting it. Until a better ROM is built with a custom kernel we are screwed.

I agree 100%, 4.2. Update is worse than original. Try downloading CPU tuner and pimp my ROM from play store it will help, until custom ROM is built.

So I just found out that the UK variant is running KitKat. If some can find anyone in the UK that can pull the rom for it, we can get this running much better than it currently is.
Can anyone point me into a direction where I could find the operation system and how to install
