So my wife comes home giggling about how I'm gonna love this new toy she bought me from her black Friday spending spree.
This is what she brings home,
http://androidcommunity.com/hp-mesq...-on-sale-at-walmart-on-black-friday-20131127/
89$ tablet with an intel single core with HT, and I have to admit it is
really snappy and I'm very happy with the build quality. For 89$ this is a game changer for sure.
So I'm currently trying to root with shuame, no success as of yet. I'm using Koush's generic Adb drivers since Hp has nothing on its own device.
Gets 100mflops on linpack and I will put up more benchmarks later.
If anybody has this device and wants to start please feel free.
I was lucky enough to get the last one at my local Walmart this morning at 7am.... couldn't believe that there was still one left 13 hours later.
I am also impressed with its snappiness and build quality all for $89!
Running into a lot of compatibility issues trying to install apps from the playstore. So I came over here to see what my options are.
I am hoping to maybe follow a similar route as I did with my HP Touchpad, which is still running strong.
Thanks for any info!!
Here is a link to the bench mark test that I ran -

No root as of yet.
I have noticed some apps that say they are not compatible in the market.
I have purchased weather bug elite and it said not compatible, but i downloaded it from a 3rd party and it worked just fine. When I figure out the adb drivers and get a stable root, I'm gonna change the build prop to something more common.

Its right on the heels of the Samsung Nexus 10. If we can get some kernel support we could get some more power out of that intel chip. Hell Kit Kat is 64 bit and this is a 64 bit processor.
Also did you get an ota update?
bought one just earlier from my local Walmart, surprising there was 7 left in the closet.
noticed this is HP Tablet 7 1800 with Single Core w/ Intel Atom Z2460 processor x86,
the one sold most places like Staples are 2800 with Rear Camera and Dual Core Processor cost $30-40 more.
wonder what are the chances Developers will make a Port for Kit Kat for this Tablet 7 1800, which seems to be ONLY sold in Walmart. Different from Slate 7 series

Right now we need to work on rooting this tablet so we can mess with governors and such. Also finding an update.zip would also be nice for when we brick anything.
Edit:
I have successfully got the adb drivers to work and can connect to the tablet through adb. no luck with any scripts yet though.
I'm surprised so many people are liking it.

Well it does everything it needs to very well. My only complaint would be the screen is sub par compared to the clarity of my galaxy s3 amoled screen, and the only camera is the front vga one.

Yes sir you exploit is the only working root for this device.
We are running an x86 intel atom cpu so I guess thats why it worked.

Just picked one of these up. Crossing my fingers that it will be decent and that there is some support from developers. I bet this could be a decent little performer with some governors and ROM tweaks.

Thanks in advance
offtopic... does the apad run any good? is it smooth?
Why is it off topic. It is a tablet that runs android. Do not have it yet so can't comment on how good or bad it runs.
i was asking an off topic question (i.e. not related to your question). guess i phrased my sentence wrongly. do post here on how well this device seems to perform.
I will. Thanks for your intrest.

hey could you pm me the site where you purchased it from?
could you update your main post with the specs that you ordered from? Apparently there are Apad clones with crappy processors instead of the rockchip processors
Dealextreme has it for cheap
dealextreme is the crap version. the proper apad is the one with rockchip in it. and i found out that the cheapest apad with rockchip is ~150usd
i have one of those too.
with the rockchip which actually is not to bad of a processor. nowhere near the A4 but ok to work with.
it's an ARM derivative and consists of a cpu and dsp(gpu).
i would also like to know if anybody has played with it yet.
i followed the android instructions of building a development envirnment and have the tablet actually show up in eclipse but where to go from here?
sorry for threadjacking a bit
i would first of all like to be able to upgrade android. if possible 2.2 or at least to 1.6.
the device has the upgrade locked.
the are also language option conflicts were suggestive text and some keyboard keys still show up in (i guess) Chinese.
It'll most likely be impossible to upgrade the apad to 2.1/2.2 as rockchip dsp isn't actually a gpu, its a video processor for videos only.
on another note i have decided to pass up on the apad as it doesn't seem that "future-proof" most likely will get this http://www.wiipad.us/product.php?id_product=11 unless better options come out in the next 1 month or so
does android 2.x require a specialized dedicated gpu?
the dsp is essentially a gpu, it is capable of playing 720p video.
it should be plenty for android 2.x to get around
so i can move files from the device to the pc.
i copied the data and system folder.
what to do now?

Yeah but it decodes videos only, a gpu actually pumps out the graphics which is an intergral part of 2.1 onwards (also in the rockchip's specs i saw somewhere this chip does not support 2.1) The wiipad neno has a cortex a8 core which is similar to the ipad's processor so it is running on 2.1.

I'm just wondering if the one running 2.2 and Tegra2 has a better screen. Aside from that main difference looks to be an HDMI out port.
If anyone has any interest in hands-on experiences with the ViewPad 10 let me know. This is the tablet that dual-boots Windows 7 and Android 1.6.
I bought one for my wife for Christmas and she is really happy with it. Windows runs well and the touch interface works well. The Android half is only 1.6 but runs really fast and does what she needs to.

Is this CPU dual core?
What is the touchscreen? eGalax?
Has vacant mini-pci-e?
Or all the 2 mini pci-e slots are occupied by SSD and Wifi card?
Can you upgrade the RAM from 1 Gb to 2 Gb card?
Is SD card recognised in Grub and can you boot by SD in the current GRUB setup?
Looks like the 10s is actually a version of the Vega.
Windows tabs (this one included) are Atom cpu powered and the chipset can not handle Android code beyond 1.6.
Though the Tegra 2 is powerful for a passively cooled chipset, it will not power Windows well at all. Need more cpu power and fan cooling.

Seems like it, just with a different chassis. But why would VS do that?
In essence, if it IS Vega guts then it's no different than a G Tablet except that it has less internal storage + the hdmi port. That would be pretty...what's the word, scammy? Maybe they're trying to 'shed' the G Tablet image.
But you don't give people less bang for their buck albeit in a different/new package and manage to charge more for it unless you're Apple or evil.

Wha?
I was under the impression the only reason Tegra 2 doesn't power Windows currently is that Windows doesn't have an ARM compatible product currently, and that should change by 2012.
As far as Android on intel architecture - that's up to Google. There's no reason that it shouldn't be able to run well unless Google has optimized code in Android especially for ARM vs. x86/x64 since Linux runs well on everything.

The article says it is only available outside the US. So it looks like they want a tablet both inside and ouside the US. Maybe it is easier for them to choose two tablets that are already approved to work in the corresponding locations, compared to getting the gtablet modified to work outside the US or the Vega modified to work inside.
Folks, there is no such thing as a Tegra 2 Windows device. Will not work correctly.
The device has an Intel Atom 400 series chipset and has a fan.

Not sure what you are saying. The Viewpad 10 is the one with android 1.6 and windows and has the atom processor and fan. The Viewpad 10s is a rebranded advent vega with a tegra 2, running android 2.2.
A fan has noting to do with anything. My windows 7 netbook is passivly cooled. The tegra 2 is more than enough to handle windows, the oly problem being is an arm arcitecture. But hey! We can run windows 95/98 with bochs!
There is absolutely no way that you will ever run Windows 7 on any ARM processor (ie: the Tegra 2). ARM is a totally different and incompatible architecture from x86, which is what Windows 7 runs on.
You Got It!

If we're both right, then the premium you are paying is more than likely a manufacturing fee to VEGA and HOPEFULLY some marketing push from Viewsonic to get this thing popular and get a good following for the device. The reason WE want a following... DEVs to MOD it!

Go for a refurb Nook Color or Archos.
The tablet you showed has good specs but considering the fact that it's not a common model, you will have trouble finding,
1) rooting procedures.
2) service/repair
3) custom ROMs.
And, the one you showed looks like a Chinese tablet that have crappy hardware and software.
If you took a look at the review they said it was quite neat, and I've only heard good things about it when looking around.
It just worries me a bit, that people says 2.2 is crap and that dual core is worth **** when most things only run one one :/
Nook Color and Archos is e-reader, I don't want that :/
Only 2.3 and 3.0 tablets worth buying?
Nook is fully functional android tablet when rooted... Not just e-reader... And much better than the Chinese tablet you are looking at. A friend at work bought one of those... Very slow and lags like crazy... No good. Hope you find what works for you.

2.3 and 3.0 tablets are somewhat worth buying. Archos is not an eReader. It's a PMP/tablet. Nook Color is an eReader and so has an excellent display. Still, it's full touch and can be rooted and made to function as a real tablet.
I wouldn't really call 2.2 crap. It's good but with a Nook Color, you will be able to update to 2.3.5 using CM7.
It's sad that you are making me repeat myself, a Nook Color comes with an American warranty unlike a Chinese product which has no warranty. Even if they advertise one, you can't be sure that they will honor it 100%.
A review can be biased. On the internet, you can easily write a biased review. Nook Color has a huge modding community and, not everyone is going to be biased.
As for Archos, it's more multimedia oriented and so has a dual cam as well.
I wouldn't call dual core ****. Although not a lot of software can utilize multi-threading, you will see better software soon. It might take some time by when, your tablet would become slow and outdated. Dual core is worth it but it's not a smart choice, right now.

Nook Color does consume more battery but it has reasonable life.
Then again, it all boils down to your own priorities. If you don't mind a sub-standard Chinese product as long as it's cheap and has some cool specs, go ahead. If you want a somewhat quality product which is either little expensive or has lower specs, don't buy the model you showed.
I think I'll buy it next month, just to try out a tablet.

He is talking about software. That thing runs 2.2. Most smartphones listed in have custom ROMs. Most phones that have only 2.1 officially have 2.3 ported unofficial by XDA members. He is asking if you can upgrade that device to 2.3 at least unofficially.

What is your primary purpose for this tablet?
I would second the suggestions for Nook&Color.
Also, I hear Amazon's going to launch it's new android based eBook-centric tablet, as "Amazon Kindle" for $250. If you just want to read some ebooks, do a little surfing, and play games like Angry Birds. Then I think this tablet is for you. Keep in mind that this tablet is very ebook-oriented and NOT AT ALL like any other android based tablet. Heck, it doesn't even support some of the google services (Android market). You may want to watch out for that.

Nook Color can be rooted and flashed with CM7 and be turned into a full fledged tablet. I believe there's a honeycomb port as well.

Hey!
I am interested in buying a "cheap" Android Tablet, and I found this one, but is there any better for around 200 USD?

Planned to buy it here: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/7-capa...mera-wi-fi-bluetooth-hdmi-4gb-cortex-a9-81345
Found this lovely review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzkusBtP9Ps&list=FL75AO3D7eDtgkqQUFxA9Btw&index=6&feature=plpp
It seems like a sexy tablet, should I buy? Or do you know of any better under $200

This is off topic but have you bought anything from that site before? It seems to offer worldwide free shipping and there are some cool products I'd love to buy. Worldwide free shipping even for items under 1$ seems too good to be true?

No it isn't : it's a real fully-functional Android tablet.
I own a A101IT (G8, the one running Froyo), and really like (and recommend) it!
... or you should wait for the next version (G9), with a dual-core and Honeycomb-powered.
I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this so if it is, sorry to the mod who's in charge.
Anyone who's in the market for a decent, inexpensive, intro tablet should check this one out. I got mine at geeks.com a few days ago.
First off, and most importantly, it comes already rooted. One of the first things I did was to install Titanium Backup and Rom Manager. I was a little surprised to see that root was checked in Titanium Backup. Once Rom Manager was installed I easily installed Clockword Mod and was off trying out a few other roms.
The hardware is as follows:
CPU: ARMv7 (VFPv3, NEON) @ 1200MHz
GPU: Mali-400 MP (OpenGL ES 2.0)
Screen: 600x800 capacitive touch screen
Add'l items: microSDHC slot, mini HDMI out, mini USB, front facing camera & mic.
You can see the rest of the specs at geeks.com but for the money it's a pretty good little tablet, IMHO...plus comes rooted so no need to research anything or mess around with adb
If anyone has any questions, give me a shout.

kosaco 8"
I have been seeing a TON of ads about these different models of late all very reasonably priced but almost NO real information about them
for example your post is the 1st time I have seen someoen say its an ARM7 CPU.
That being said, I have been working on a GTAB for over a year so kind of lost touch on the different cpu classifications, how would that stack up against an ARM9 or CortexA10?
I've owned several tablets, everything from an Augen to a Pnandtech to 3 color nooks (still in action) to the GTAB that got run over last week.
So now Im in the market. I really prefer the 10" screens (had a Z180 before the GTAB), but the nook is growing on me.
The only 2 things that most ads seem to differentiate between kosaco models for example is the 730's and 760's seem to be 7" screen your 830 apparently is an 8" screen and then the version of android thats pre installed.
I have seen some w/ 2.2.3 and many w/ ICS (4)
Now that youve had a few more days to play can you give us a real breakdown on what your finding?
have you owbned any other tablets prev?
Thanks
J
any idea on how to get ICS or HC running on this tab? I bought it and it seems like a pretty aewsome budget tab but i was hoping to get a newer version of android running on it.
have you found the makers website?
you mite start there, since they are now selling them on amazon w/ 4 they may have an update
i dont own one yet
their website is a landing page with just an image and I don't really see any support info

Manual and support software right there.
I actually just bout a KOCASO MID-M760 7" Android 4.0 and love it!!!
My only problem is, because there's so little information about it on-line, other than sellers, I can't figure out what to use to root it to save my life.
Which is EXTREMELY frustrating because after I purchased it, I saw that the next model up comes pre-rooted out of the box.
Anybody know how to root this sucker!?
I'd love to drop CM7 on it like I have on my phone.
Thanks in advance to ANYBODY that can point me in the right direction!

Root kocaso m760
Hi, this works. Rooted a m760 no problems
androidtablets.net/forum/ice-cream-sandwich/44223-rooting-kocaso-m760
Can't post link as site admiri won't allow but hope you can work it out by adding the www at the start and HTML at the end of link
Also the m762 firmware on mymidpad.com has been confirmed by kocaso as the compatible firmware for this model, I can't figure out how to put it into recovery though to use the livesuite software. Pressing volume - and the power button 10 times does not work as per similar models!
ROMs for Kosaco M762
I have a Kosaco M762, what ROMs did you flash to your Kocaso??? And where did you find them?
Thanks

Roms Available?
Anyone installed any roms on these kocaso tabs yet?
I have a Bush Spira B1 (5inch, dual sim android 4.4.2, 5mp back camera, 2mp front camera, 8gb internal memory, 1gb ram, retailing in argos for £69.99)
I've only had it just over 30 days and it rebooted this evening but does not boot into android, after the boot and splash screens I get a blank screen and no operating system.
Anyone have any idea or knowledge of this device?
Why won't it finish boot? No system or any other changes have been made.
Apparently this is a rebranded Archos 50 neon, and carries the model number C50CNE.

Sounds like a piece of $hit.
Its most likely some chinese knock off.

Well its not one of these Chinese clone things that are taking over the net. They are $hit as you call it.......
I took it back and got a full refund.
Thanks for your optimistic comment though.

Sorry, lol, I havent ever heard of this phone, usually alot of people who buy phones that die like 30 days later are the Chinese ones.
Its ok. No offence taken.
I brought it because the spec seemed quite respectable.

Qualcom snapdragon quad core processor
Dual sim
8gb internal memory
1gb ram
Android 4.4.2 KitKat
8mp back camera
5mp front camera
£10 lebra mobile credit included on a free sim card
£10 Google play voucher
Black or white back battery cover and a clear gel case included.
£69.95
My own investigation found out that all bush phones and tablets available in UK are rebranded Archos devices.
The Spira B1 seems to be identical to the Archos C50 Neon.
There are bigger and better phones available (Namely the Spira C1 and Spira D1 that have 5.2 and 5.5" screens and lollipop) for £99 and £120 respectively.
The previous 4 and 5 inch Bush android phones and tablets available until April this year in the UK (that were called bush 4 android and bush 5 android) have now been rebranded as Alba devices !
Here it is.
I have a Bush Spira C1. I bought it from Argos. I too cannot currently find anyway to root my device. I'm gradually running out of space, as I'm unable to use Link2SD without root. Any assistance for us would be gratefully received. Thank you in advance. P.S. I have searched XDA, but cannot find any other reference to our devices.

Not everyone can afford a £600 phone. Some people are quite happy with the basics.

Same problem here, my dad has the Spira B1. I'll update if I find something.
[Update]
Managed to root with KingoRoot using the Windows software. Just need to find a way to replace their superuser app with SuperSU now.
superuser just crashes on this phone supersu sort of works it roots the phone but the pop up for su prompt is blocked so just sits there if set to always grant root works but is a bit of a security issue and practically all phones are produced in china now even the over priced ones and the chipset for the phone is spreadtrum the cpu is a quad 1.2 with a mali mp2 gpu so performance is reasonable but the touch screen is only 2 touch and it is a rebranded Archos 50c neon but the update firmware they have available at the archos site is older than what is installed on the phone so won't install.
