How's The RAZR? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm really contemplating on whether or not I should switch from my S3. I want to see some reviews on how it's been also!

I had the s3 for a days before switching to the razr maxx.I found the s3 too wide for my hand and too plasticy for my tastes. The razr is a great device and a solid phone in terms of hardware and build. No hiccups in usage and blur is really minimal compared to touch wiz. I don't play anything graphically intensive so haven't noticed the difference in ram. The camera on the s3 is better, but I haven't missed it. Unless a nexus device comes top vzw, I'll be keeping the maxx.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

i have had the S3 since pre-order and just got the hd maxx this weekend. my wife got my s3 and i used her upgrade. i have to say i really like the phone so far! it is far closer to a stock android experience. the ONLY thing that i can say is that the on screen buttons (back, home, multitask) make your actual viewing area smaller. so you will lose some of your screen compared to the s3. other than that, its a sweet phone!!!!
Edit: now that i've had time to mess with the camera. i have to say i am very disappointed. indoor pics are terrible and outdoor pics are just ok. i thought this is the HD? the camera is still in the analog category. I am debating whether to try another one to see if its just mine, go back to my s3 or wait for an upcoming phone.

The RAZR HD is what apple owners wish the iphone5 was!!

[Q] Charge or Droid X2

The Motorola Droid X2 comes out the 26th in stores. Anyone have any advice. I was thinking of switching out my Droid Charge for one. But its only 3g but it benchmarks around 2500 stock.

I went Charge to be able to be grandfathered into the unlimited 4g data plan when they switch to tiered only. With launcherpro, I think the charge is plenty fast. Also, the screen is ridiculous.
But that is my rationale for going the Charge route. I came from the Droid X.
I'd rather have faster data connection than quadrant score, but thats just me.
We, the company I work with, already have them (x2's) in the stores. I played around with one for a little while on saturday and was pretty impressed with it. The QHD screen is definitely an improvement over the normal lcd. Text was very clear and crisp. Performance wise, I was also pretty happy with it. I played around with a few apps and definitely noticed the snappy and quick response, even a tad more noticeable then my charge.
That being said. I would still have my charge for multiple reason. One, I'm not big gamer. So, the extra power of the DC processor want be missed for long. It's also, as we all know, the same body as the original X. I very much disliked that design. It was uncomfortable to hold and talk on for any length of time. It was enough for me to take back my X, I had it the first day it came out last year, and swap it for the Fascinate. I've had my fascinate ever since and haven't looked back. I did, however, miss that big nice 4.3 screen, 8mp camera. So, in comes the charge. It's all the greatness that the fascinate has offered, great hardware. The New SuperAmoled+ screen is wonderful, and the new camera is back on spec of the performance I got from the X camera. Plus, it's 4G and we are suppose to have 4G next month, if all goes well.
Thanks for the input ...I believe I will keep what I have now. This is a real nice phone. Coming from the fascinate I am already used to Samsung hardware and really like the 4g and the screen.

Yep, and that gorgeous screen

[Q] opinions wanted on Nexus/Rezound etc??

I need to buy a new 4G phone soon.
My Wife needs a phone (she does not have data now but wants it) & we don't want to miss the temporary 4G for 2G tiered price deal.
I figured I would buy the Galaxy Nexus if/when it ever comes out. I have both an upgrade available & a couple hundred dollars in credit from VZ.
I will probably buy from BestBuy so I can get the 30 day return/exchange policy. Right now, I have a Charge running 2.3.6 GB, imoseyon 4.0, fuju tweaks, Launcher Pro Plus, coredroid theme etc.etc.etc.
My Charge flies (2400 in Quadrant) & I absolutely LOVE the thing (no lag whatever, not a single FC etc.). With the camera button mod, it is almost the perfect phone IMHO. This makes it tough to decide what to do as I figured I would give my Wife the Charge & buy the GN for myself (the Wife could care less which one she has).
My problem is, my Boss just bought a Rezound & with all the bloatware removed it is an AWESOME phone. I am now tempted to buy that instead of the GN. The Rezound has a jaw-dropping screen with its better rez than the iphone. It is fast as hell (especially after I installed LPP+) & should be rooted sometime in the next few weeks. Not everybody likes it, but I'm no audiophile & I think the beats sound is really a plus for listening to it all day at work.
I am looking for peoples opinion of the Rezound. It already has an extended battery & cover available (I love this with my Charge) & definitely has a few advantages over the GN. I do wish the screen was slightly bigger but it is what it is.
I may just buy the Rezound, & then if I don't like it hopefully by that time the GN will be out & I can swap the two.
Any opinions welcome, good or bad.
~John
In my opinion, go with the Nexus. You'll get constant updates and have more dev support than any other phone. I'm sure the screen will look great too.

I know you're right about the constant updates.
I'm not so sure about the screen. I am a little paranoid about a pentile screen, the guy at the desk next to mine has a Razr and I think the screen blows on that phone although I realize the GN is much higher rez.

Yeah, I haven't had the chance to see the RAZR yet. A buddy of mine is in the market to upgrade from his OG Droid and said the RAZR screen looked bad in person--he's waiting for the Nexus now.
I think you're going to have to do what he's doing, which is waiting for the Nexus to get in stores so he can see and play with one in person.

Some people may like the Razr screen, it is quite bright and saturated/colorful.
found this:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/29/screen-comparison-galaxy-nexus-vs-droid-razr-vs-htc-rezound/
The lack of resolution is blatantly obvious to a lot of people (like me) however.
I had a Razr briefly, but hated the screen-lack of a removeable battery etc. (I have really been spoiled by the ridiculously good Charge screen) & passed the Razr on to a coworker. To me, it was really obvious that it was a pentile screen especially on text, straight lines, gradient screens etc etc etc
~John
You shouldn't worry about Pentile on GN as the high resolutions make it near impossible to see the pixels. As for Razr, I've played with the phone at the store, the Pentile is very visible (for me).

+1 here. I am tired of waiting on OEMs to update software and release source code. (I also don't like any of the OEM UI)

After some more comparison, I will definitely be waiting on the Nexus.
Comparing my Charge side by side with the Rezound, I just realized how much wider the Charge screen is. I really like the wider screen setup a LOT & the GN has the wider screen config also..
My old DroidX that I absolutely LOVED, had that same tall narrow config. That was really the only thing I didn't like about the X design.
I really like using portrait orientation a lot, & the skinny screen forces you to do a lot more side to side scrolling on internet sites etc. I just like the look of the shorter wider screens also, even if you disregard the functional issue.
~John
+1 for Nexus.
Sent from my mobile office.
if not Nexus I'd go with the Rezound... there's not much dev work on it because no s-off yet but the devs are close, also I like the screen and wouldn't mind Sense as an overlay (of course when custom ICS roms come out they'll be stock aosp), if the Nexus release is gonna take much longer or if its really gonna be 750+ off contract I'm just gonna hold out and probably go with the Rezound

Yeah I'm REALLY considering the Nexus myself. This was the best phone of the original 4G bunch, but the lack of dual core, ram and a higher resolution are leaving much to be desired. I really made up my mind when I saw the review on Phone Arena for the Nexus. I'm getting bored lately of Android in general (just a phase I go through about every 2 years with mobile OSes) and I think ICS would invigorate my desire to not jump back to Apple.
Getting the pure Google experience and knowing all the previous Nexus's have VERY strong communities is just another perk for me. I think the Rezound will turn into a Charge type of community later on in life, with rom releases getting farther and farther apart. Coming from an original Droid, seeing this community dry up hasn't been fun and I havent been able to load a new rom every week lol. It's just getting a bit stale lately for me.

comparison Atrix 2 with Samsung Skyrocket

I've used my Atrix 2 for severa weeks. There are several great features, while I have a few issues with it too. I am thinking of returning it back to get a Samsung Skyrocket. But I'd to have a fair comparison of the two before making any decision.
Here are the things I really enjoy:
1. The screen is fantastic, very clear and bright.
2. The battery is super. I've not charged it in the last two days, and it is still alive.
3. The build feels very solid. Its feeling is so great.
4. Compared to Skyrocket, it is much cheaper.
Here are some issues with my Atrix2:
1. GPS is not working correctly, not even for once. I am watching this forum, but seems no one else has the same issue.
2. No way to flash modified ROMs, at least at this moment.
3. Internet sometimes is not good. Not to mention the super fast speed of Skyrocket's LTE.
However, I have not spent enough time on my phone---I have not rooted it or installed other useful applications. Nor do I know much about the possible issues with SkyRocket. So my observations above may be imcomplete or biased.
I would appreciate if you can share your thoughts and experience. Many thanks!

for 1 and 3, why not just go to at&t store and exchange for another atrix2 since there's no one has the same issue. I have no problem with those issue too.
for 2, i guess we need a bit patient, as long as the stupid bootloader is unlockable, we will get custom rom.
Thanks for your suggestions. I will try an exchange this weekend.

I came from the GS2 and have not looked back....
Just feels better (more solid) in the hand and battery life last a lot longer. (and this is even before a custom ROM.... just imagine how long it will last once ROMs start being developed)
As far as GPS & Internet I have not had any issue w/mine, works great.
Lastly the price speaks for its self. $50 (@Bestbuy)..... wow.
One of my co-workers have the Skyrocket, and I've played with it extensively since he is an iPhone refugee and wanted me to help him set it up.
I will say that you are correct in the feel aspect, the A2 feels twice as expensive as the Skyrocket. The screen is the one thing that would keep from getting the Skyrocket, it is horrible to me. IT IS BLUE!!! I am sure one could get used to using it, but as soon as I see another phone and see actual white...I would be pissed again. As far as phone speed, it didn't feel any faster than my A2, some things the Skyrocket did faster, some things the A2 did faster...it was a draw. As far as internet speeds go, without unlimited data I really couldn't see where I could fully take advantage of the higher speeds. Mobile websites load rather quickly on HSPA+ and only slightly quicker on LTE. Faster none the less. But what really shows the true advantage of LTE was watching videos and downloading large apps neither of which I do a lot of over our limited data plans. My friend is constantly complaining about his battery life. He said that if he uses it gingerly it makes it through the day, if he really starts playing with it, he needs to find a charger. I for one have always been able to make it back to the house at night with a lot of battery left, whether I use it a lot or use it a little. As for development, we just have to be patient, I am sure we will get a way to flash ROMs and kernels, but until then the A2 really can't fight in that battle.
I have not had any of the issues you brought up, I would take it back. And from what I've read, Sammy's are notorious for GPS issues, I don't know if the Skyrocket is in that boat or not, but they don't have the greatest track record with GPS.
I say go to an AT&T store that has a Skyrocket demo phone and do your comparison, what I didn't like you might like. Don't get caught up in looking at pictures as a lot of reviewers do when reviewing the SGS2's. Look at the everyday stuff, surf the web and sit it next to your A2, go to google.com and compare them. You will see what I'm talking about.
The only thing I dislike about A2 is its camera quality. Don't know why Moto even bothered with a dedicated camera button; without two-stage focus it's pretty useless.
Ok considering I owned the Skyrocket temporarily and the Atrix 2 I can tell you a few differences.
1. The Skyrocket feels Cheap and the Skyrocket is Wider which makes the phone feel a little odd.
2. This is mixed but I noticed it and so have others on the screen, the Skyrocket when viewed in the dark and looking at either a dark photo or watching a scene in a movie where it is dark you will notice a blobbing effect as well as banding issues through the screen. Atrix 2 does not suffer from this at all.
3. Super AMOLED Plus from what I have read suffers from screen degradation over time.
4. Def. not nearly as many accessories (Lapdock, HD Dock, Etc. for Atrix 2)
5. Skyrocket's bootloader is unlocked....Bad Motorola Bad
6. Camera and Video seem about the same on both of them as far as I can tell but I don't have a photographers eye let alone if you are that picky just go get an Actual REAL Camera.
7. As for fluidity of the UI they seem about the same and the irony here is that the Atrix 2 is running currently at 1ghz as opposed to the Skyrocket running at 1.5ghz
8. Once Atrix 2 does get bootloader unlocked they will be pretty much dead even other than LTE but like someone stated earlier unless you have an Unlimited Data Plan kinda useless.
One thing that has not been meantioned is the charge time!
The Atrix 2 charge time is much, much, much, faster then the SG2

Agree with this.
My friend has sgs2 and charging longer than mine, although he use my charger or i use his,a2 is faster when charging. Also his battery life is worse,he charge twice/three times a day,but a2 can give me a day with data connection always on and widget.
And when i play a game on his phone, back camera feel so hot.
Screen look good on sgs2 but a2 is brighter.
Sgs2 feels so fragile and cheap in hand,a2 is so solid.
But back again,decission is yours.
Just choose what you like.
But when a2 is unlocked,i believe we will see a beast awake from its bed. :-D

I am planning on picking up an Atrix 2 tomorrow, I was told by a Target Store associate that the Atrix 2 will be FREE...the SG2 will be $199.99, so that pretty much sold me on the Atrix 2.
I too was worried about the Super AMOLED screen on the SG2, I owned a Captivate previously and it suffered from image burn, which bugged the crap out of me.
You will probably like the A2. It's a very refined phone. Feels a ton nicer than the SGSII, which I considered.
I am very grateful to all your comments! They have saved me a lot troubles.
More than a year ago, I had Samsung captivate for several months, and it was my first smartphone. As it had much more functions compared to my previous non-smart phones, overall I quite liked it, despite its cheap looking, bad GPS, and short battery life.
Today I tried SkyRocket in an AT&T store. I had expected there should be a lot changes compared to captivate. It turns out SkyRocket still looks as cheap as captivate. The screen might be brighter, but there is a bluish tone.
As for the GPS issue with my Atrix 2, it went away after a salesperson simply pulled out the battery and then restarted the phone. I then tried GPS several times after, the issue is really gone. A little bit curious why a restart with battery removed can solve the problem.
I haven't looked for any change of the Internet connection issue. Previously, when phone signal is low, around 2 bars, the internet is really really slow. However, as I work on computer all the time, so this issue does not bother me that much.
After reading numerous very helpful replies, I decide to keep this new phone. I picked up Atrix 2 mainly because it is much cheaper, plus I'd like to try a different company. Now I realize that I made a good decision.
Thank you all, again!
I did pick up my Atrix 2 on Sunday and all I can say is WOW! I love it, it even made a couple of my iPhone toting co-workers jealous...that was great. I am now looking forward to some development and custom ROMs in the future.

Glad to have you aboard!
Another thing worth pointing out is the resolution. The Atrix2 has 960x540 as opposed to 480 x 800 pixels on the Samsung. Before I bought the Atrix2, I had thoroughly compared the two. The higher resolution makes for an increase in display area. When comparing the same yahoo news article on both phones, the words get wrapped to the second line earlier on the Samsung. So you get to read more on the Atrix2 before having to scroll. Also, the higher resolution provides a crisper and clearer font.
As far as brightness is concerned, Atrix2 is way brighter. The store salesman tried to change the Samsung config to increase the brightness but it was already at it's highest. But apparently as he mentioned the Samsung has deeper more brilliant colors but I thought the Atrix2 colors looked more "natural".

The Atrix is *really* bright, especially compared to my Nexus One. In fact, in some ways, I wish we had a Contrast setting option, because the brightness tends to wash out any vaguely light wallpapers.
But I certainly don't have the problems seeing the screen in the outdoors the way I did with my N1. And indoors I turn the brightness *way* down. (Never bother with auto-brightness.)
Congrats on your decision. I think you'll love the A2. The LTE is an added plus for the Skyrocket, but it's only slightly faster than the A2's 21 mb/s and there is a big battery drain; SGS2 = Bad battery life, LTE = Worse battery life, SGS2 Skyrocket = Terrible battery life.
The worst thing about the A2 (for me) is that it still hasn't been added to the official list of updates to ICS. That just annoys me a lot.
Glad I had asked before made the decision. Very very happy about the screen and battery.
I just got my Atrix 2 rooted and turned on Mobile Hotspot. And now typing on a transformer.
On my unit, I only got 2mb/s for the internet. Perhaps because the reception signal at my place is bad. Anyway, it will be enough for occasional use.

Once I get my atrix2 (friday) I can give a good comparison between the two since Ill own both. I love the skyrocket to death and it is by far the best smartphone Ive owned but once a friend showed me webtop I knew I needed to have that too lol Ive got a second ATT line (concession) and had one of my yearly upgrades available so I ordered an atrix2. After seeing some benchmark scores Im hoping to get the atrix and help with the bootloader situation. Last time I ran antutu with a stripped stock factory clock on the skyrocket I pulled 6314. I saw in another thread the atrix pull 5000 something. Im sure a lot of that has to do with the stock rom and lower clock speed so Im hoping that development will ramp up. Will have a little comparison review this weekend when I get my atrix2 and lapdock

Yes, I did, and Yes, it's totally worth it, even with the locked bootloader.
yes.
I actually still have my Atrix. I have owned it the longest out of all smartphones I have ever had and its hard to give it up . With that said, I will be putting it up for sale soon and I feel the One X, even with locked bootloader intact, will be worth my while.... for the time being.
yes. it's a great upgrade from the pentile crap screen on the atrix. and best of all LTE is just great.
I do miss the compact size, the plethora of accessories, removable battery, unlocked bootloader, fingerprint reader, etc. etc. The atrix is still a super fast phone... CM9 runs super smooth. but i guess it's time has passed, and now is a dedicated gps device for my car lol.
The original Atrix? Got one. This thing is so far ahead of it, it's not even a valid comparison. Camera and display about 500x better. Much faster phone, and ICS to boot. To me it also handles better.
I'm upgrading tonight to the white one X but think I will keep the atrix to use as a mp3 player for the gym and maybe a few other things here and there. I find it hard to give up the atrix because of how amazing the Dev. Community is.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2
also went from an Atrix to HOX. used the Atrix for a year and change..the battery while great, was starting to lose some of its ability to hold a charge, the camera sucked, and the screen wasn't the greatest. HOX is a major upgrade, if not only for the camera and ICS
My last phone was the Original Atrix.
Better screen, better design, faster, better cam, LTE. It's a no brainer.
I'm coming from the Atrix too. HOX is fantastic and hoping that awesome devs like Notorious544d come over to HOX eventually (fingers crossed)!!!
I would be willing to put a little money down to bring him over

One X is best phone with best feature and design, best performance screen color is very bright and clear
But bad battery life, it drain fast with screen on like video playing or surfing internet but it is good when screen of as 3G talking upto 9 hours and 24mn and over while 4 hoursand 18mn for using internet and 5 hours and 45 mn for video play
I love my Atrix. It's fast, smooth, sturdy. I dropped it plenty of times w/o a case and it always booted back up after I popped the battery back in.
HOX is a worthy upgrade because of the amazing scree, fast camera, and ICS. It's thinner too.
We have an atrix family here. Lol

yes, get the one x. for me, the screen on the one x was enough for me to spend the money to get it. i couldnt stand the screen on the atrix... too small and the colors seemed washed out to me
I came from the atrix as well! Main concerns going into it were battery life and lack of expandable memory. Lack of THD games didn't matter as most of them are garbage. The upgrade was genuinely worth it and battery life seems to be about the same if not better. Absolutely happy I upgraded!

I'm going to have to agree that it's worth it. The screen was a big reason for my switching. Any big flaws the HOX has are software, which means one way or another they will be fixed.

I got the Atrix....but Im waiting for the S3. However, I convinced my girl to upgrade to the HOX from the i4

I'm going to have to chime in here as well. Just sold my atrix to my buddy. I had it for about 8 months which is an eternity for me with phones. It was an awesome phone but I was due for an upgrade and couldn't pass up the one x. A few things coming from an atrix running neutrino ee: Battery life..I thought it was excellent on my atrix (20+ hours easy) and after rooting and freezing some apps with tibu I'm happy to say its the same if not better. The kicker is disabling auto brightness and auto sync. I just check my Gmail manually every hour or two. Build quality..Makes the atrix look and feel like a toy. Screen..No contest lol. Honestly all that I miss from my atrix is the fp scanner, and I seem to be the minority on that one but it was awesome and worked flawlessly for me. My only hardware qualm with the one x is the led light. Its tiny and only does red, green and maybe orange? I was spoiled by having green for texts, blue for Gmail and lime green for everything else. Honestly that's all I miss. The one x is superior in every other way, now if only we can get this fn bootloader unlocked and "persuade" notorious to bring us some neutrino goodness.

I upgraded from a Atrix and it is a huge upgrade. I was actually expecting better battery life but it is pretty much the same. The screen though is way better looking. I didn't think that would be a big deal until I got it and saw just how much prettier it is. And the camera on my phone takes better pictures then cameras of my families that they paid 200+ less than a year ago and is a definite upgrade over the Atrix one. Its sadly only slightly more smooth - it has fewer hiccups but it still does have some - but the next update will hopefully make it even better

SGS3 lte upgrade to nexus 5?

Ive been eyeing up the nexus 5 for a little while now and since the patch has come out regarding the camera I'm more tempted again.
I currently use a s3 lte is it a worthwhile upgrade to the nexus 5?
How does camera quality and battery life compare between the two?

the N5 is a great device so far. the best, if you're coming from the rooting/unlocking angle.
I'm in the same situation, I have the sgs3 [I9300] international version, I already bought the n5, tomorrow it will be arriving, I will try and compare camera and overall experience such as battery, mostly camera as I am nearby a charger most of the time.

I just came from a GS3. I used it stock for a year, then on a 4.2 and 4.3 ROM for about 8 months. My GS3 was good at everything, so my main comment is that the Nexus 5 is just incrementally better at everything.
The camera is better, battery life is slightly better (though much better in standby), the screen is better, it's faster (and the GS3 wasn't exactly slow).
GS3 has a better external speaker and I did get better wifi reception on the 5gz band. Also, swappable batteries and SD card support is nice.

Thanks for the heads up.
I haven't seen a decent comparison between the two, so when I bought the n5 it was not clear what areas would it be better at, it's nice to know overall is better, battery life in my s3 has always been crappy so I actually use an 3600mA extended bat, I know that isn't possible with the n5 so that could be my first complain.
Camera is also a concern to me, as I like to snap pictures every now and then, nice to know it would be as good as this one at least.
As comment my sgs3 struggles with ram, it will close all my apps as it feels the need to do it, let's say watching YouTube or playing a game, it's annoying.
Anyhow, thanks pal'.

It's tough to remember my battery life on the original ROM, but with a custom ROM, it was a bit better underclocking. I never had any issues with mine. I bought a battery stick to carry with me when I think I will need more battery.
The speed is noticeable. There just isn't any waiting for multitasking.
The Nexus 5 camera I do think is better, though Samsung's camera interface is much better and offers burst mode and more customization. I prefer point and shoot, which the Nexus can be finicky, but there is an update coming any day now to fix this. Samsung still has the best front cam in the business though.
It's a better phone, but I think it goes to show how good the GS3 is for being 18 months old.

I had 2 S3s. The N5 blows it out of the water. Especially after making the camera better with the update released yesterday.
No competition in my opinion.
