I have a samsung galaxy exhibit 2 4G that I rooted and flashed cm9 onto. Today I went to go flash a new rom on. When I am in recovery, whatever option I want to do, whether its wipe data or install from sd card, it just goes blank with the clockwork logo. So I then realized that I can't even access my external sd card on my phone. If I try to plug my phone into the computer, I just get the device not recognized popup.
So I can't restore my previous backup, I can't flash a new recovery, I can't even use an external sd card because it doesn't read properly, and the phone won't connect to the computer because the drivers are all screwed up. I don't know what to do. I tried a data reset, I tried to use rom manager, but it doesn't work with the exhibit 2.
I know it's an outdated slow phone, but I need this phone to work. Thanks!
Try pressing a different button to select, while in recovery. On my phone, I can use power button or search button. Menu button removes all text & I'm left with just the background.

I normally use the power button because that's what is normally suggested.

The answers are in there.
At the very lest you should be able to do an Odin flash but would wait on that for now.

Hello, I would like to start by writing that I have been searching the web and forums for 2 days attempting to figure out how to restore my phone.
I have rooted my g2x with super one click. Then i installed rom manager and flashed clockwork mod
I did a back up.
I then attempted to flash cyanogen nightly. Installation went well, then rebooted and here we are. Stuck,
When rebooting and entering the recovery menu there are 4 options and i am able to scroll using the VOLUME keys. Here is where the problem starts, I cannot select any of the options using the power button or any other button that i have tried.
The android is sitting next to the white box and this is what it says
FORMATTING DATA
FORMATTING CACHE
FORMATTING MISC
This is all that happens. Once again the menu options do not work, but i can scroll and highlight each one.
So i pull the battery and try it again and the menu options in recovery are simply not able to be selected. So i get stuck on the LG boot logo or stuck in an unresponsive recovery menu.
I cannot find out how to use any advanced tools for my device. I do not want to do further damage to my phone.
Any help from this forum would be appreciated. Thank you.
they wont help you, they are too "advanced" I wish I could help but like you, I followed verbatom instruction and wrecked many a phone...
Have you tried to reflash CWM with Rom Manager?

I am having this same problem
It depends on what CWM you flashed. So which one? It may be expecting you to use the soft keys or it may be expecting the power key for selection. If all else fails download the one click installer and start completely over. I have flashed mine (GS II and GS II SR) several times and rooted it with no issues whatsoever.
I am stuck at this stage as well. I have attempted the steps in sites listed, however when I hold the volume up+volume down and then plug in the usb, my computer is not reading the g2x.
Help?
I am a SUPER NOOB... I rooted my phone and S-Off it... Was trying to flash a ROM, did not work no my phone is stuck at all white screen with HTC across it.. Please help
if you pull the battery to turn off the phone, put the battery back in and hold the volume down button while you press the power button does it take you to the bootloader? And secondly, can you get to the recovery from there?
Yes... Now the son of a gun won't even power on...
I done did something bad... It wont even power up, or charge.... Before you ask me could I get to the boot loader screen I could, but I was jacking around with all kinda of stuff now the thing won't even power up..
How long are you holding the power button to turn it on, you just need to press the power button long enough to power the device on, but keep your finger on the vol down button until you get to the bootloader. Also, do you have the updated clockwork mod recovery installed that doesn't have the charging issue. Basically, is your battery dead?
ok now i have power...
Just please help me get my phone to come on so i can use it.. I am in boot loader now(held power button and volume down button)
go to recovery
Did it... What's next? I've tried everything on the list.. Nothing, that was before I actually posted the thread...
ok, if you are in the clockwork mod recovery, from there you need to do a full wipe, "data factory reset" cant remember the exact option. after you do a full wipe then you can try to install the rom again.
"data factory reset" did.... Phone still can't get pass that same screen....
did you re-install the rom after the factory reset? Also, the rom takes a while to boot the first time.
how can I re-install a Rom if my phone cant even get pass the screen and come on for me to get to the disk drive to drag and drop the ROM?
I am new to the andriod world, so please excuse the Noob-Ness
Ok..
When you downloaded the rom did you put it on your sd card?
What rom did you flash, and how did you flash it?
Lets start there.
**Edit**
And did you even read the following thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I put it on my SD card.... I tried to flash it, didn't work... I flash well attempted to flash it from the Recovery Mode(Power and Volume down) click "install from Sd card" and click the ROM, then rebooted...
My suggestion would be to use your computer to download a new rom from the dev section. Find a usb adapter for the micro SD card and move the new rom to it. Try flashing the new rom from CWM. Sounds to me like you got a rom that isn't for the sensation. Do you remember which rom you downloaded?
InsertCoin..I think it was me.. I just might have **** something up.. I follow the direction from the guy on Thelockr dot com.. it wasnt that hard. I just F my phone up...
How long are you waiting when you turn on your phone after flashing the rom? As I said before it takes a while to boot the first time.
At least 3 mins per go.
I recently flashed a new ROM and everything went well. 2-3 weeks later my phone died from lack of charge, I connected it. I turned it on and my start up screen begins but it just stays there...the phone doesn't turn on. I've let it charge completely, and it still will not turn all the way on.
Is there something I can try? How does one get into recovery or download mode with this phone?
Start your phone by pressing volume up and power button together. This will boot the phone into boot loader menu. Then use volume button to scroll down and select recovery. Press power button to boot into recovery.
You may try flashing a diff ROM and see if it boots.
Sent from my Nexus S
The ROM (a Hellybean version) is just not working...I reloaded it and I still get stuck at the startup screen. As this phone doesn't have an external SD card, how would one go about putting in another ROM?
Or simply, how do I go back to stock? Is there something like ODIN? Sorry the noob questions...I know my phone front and back (old Captivate) and I'm actually trying to fix this for my boyfriend. Thanks

Go into Recovery-> Mount and Storage -> Mount USB Storage, then you're Computer will recognize your phone, and will able to see your SD card, then put Rom in the Sd Card, unmount SD card from recovery, Go back, do a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, choose zip from SD card and happy Flashing
It worked Thank you guys! :good:
I was trying to Root my Tab2, its on update 4.2.2. i was watching a YouTube video on how to do it.
YouTube title: How To Root A Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P51xx
i did exactly what he said but ran into trouble when i was supposed to put the files onto the SD card.
So what i did was fire up Kies Air and transfer the PhilZ touch recovery.tar and Super SU folder to the sd card via Kies Air.
i thought that would be the same as plugging the sd card into my system as a usb drive.
then shut down and reboot with volume down and power. but it opens up this screen:
the top bar is highlighted blue and it says "reboot system now" its hard to see in the picture.
So if i hit the power button to select reboot now, the screen goes black and it just doesn't do anything.
I can get back to that screen if i hit volume down and power again, but cant seam to do anything else.
Plugging the tab into the usb does nothing.
Does someone know how i can get it running again?

I suggest you to do following steps:
1) First try to put your phone in Odin Mode(press Power button and Volume decrease Button simultaneously)
2) Then download odin.exe (search it on google).you will easily get it.
3) Then reflash your Regional Stock ROM again from Odin.
4) If these steps don't work out, please ask me again...(in case your tablet does not detect in Odin mode)
Prerequisites:
Make sure you have installed samsung usb drivers or kies in your PC.
Android System Recovery
The only thing it will do is go to Android System Recovery. It does not go into Odin.
I think the only option is to load something from the SD card from Android System Recovery.
I do have Odin 1.85, I did use Odin to load PhilZ recovery, but the next step was to load PhilZ recovery and Super SU on the sd card. at that point is where it stopped working.
Thanks
Steve
all fixed
I kept playing with it and finally it booted into oden.

What did you exactly do to play with it? I think I may be in the same situation as you but I have a P3113.
Just rooted my phone with ODIN/TWRP. One of the reasons was I wanted multiple user support as I'm using this phone as a second phone (no SIM card) that my son can play with, but wanted to have a user account on it as well.
Stupidly, googled this which seemed harmless enough..
[I can't post URL's yet so had to delete this line]
Adjusted the build.prop file as it mentioned, saved it to another directory, and then saved that file over the one in the System directory.
Sure enough, selected "reboot" on my phone, and now it won't power up. If I press power/vol down key it brings up the Galaxy S6 shot, and then just a black screen.
I tried going back into TWRP recovery mode and reflashing Odin, but end up with the same result.
I know, I should have asked here before I messed with the build.prop file, but when the same answer came up on 2 or 3 different public sites indicating how to adjust it to add multi-user support, I stupidly figured it was a simple fix!
Any help getting the phone back would be appreciated! Does Multiple User support even work on this phone!?
Flash stock rom with Odin or just do emergency software recovery from SmartSwitch. When phone try to reboot, force turn off (10 sec press power button) and then enter recovery (vol up+power+home) and wipe data.
This should do it.

Hmmm...didn't seem to work. Same issue as the phone just ends up with a black screen.
