Installing WhatsApp on Tablet Plus (WIFI only) - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hi, people!
I saw this post by cedricl on the Tablet S forum and worked for me. Maybe anyone of you must be trying to do the same, so I've decided to share this solution for you
How to install Phone-only apps (Like WhatsApp or Viber) on a WIFI-only Tablet?
- root your phone
- install whatsapp on your phone
- install TitaniumBackup on your phone
- with TitaniumBackup make a backup of whatsapp
- open file manager on your phone and look for TitaniumBackup folder
- take the 3 files with the whatsapp name in them and move these to your tablet s
- root your tablet
- install TitaniumBackup on your tablet
- open TitaniumBackup on your tablet
- in file manager go to TitaniumBackup folder
- move the 3 whatsapp files taken from the phone and place them in the TB folder
- open TitaniumBackup and "restore" your whatsapp*
*OBS.: First you must restore the app only, so it'll be installed on the system. Then you must restore the DATA. The data is the most important thing, because it'll reconfigure your WhatsApp the same way that it is on the phone. If you restore everything together, it'll not work.

Easier steps(the phone must be rooted):
-install whatsapp on phone.
-go to /data/app and copy the apk with whatsapp icon and transfer it to the tab.
- Install it.

Whatsapp uses a telephone number as userid/login credentials. Unfortunate. You will need to create an account using a phone first for it to work.

Hello, I have an HTC Flyer and what works for me when it comes to installing 'non-tablet' apps like whatsapp I simply search the apk of the application using Google and just run the apk file. Hope this helps

Please instruct me where should I paste those three files. I really don't know
I've already installed TB and Whatsapp

by installing the apk on the tab, will that log me out of whatsapp on my phone? or can I use both simultaneously, ie - use whatsapp while on the bus on my way home from work, then get home and use my tab to continue the conversation?

It will log you out, it tells you that one phone number can be used only in one app. I had to use my work phones number on tablet. If there is another workaround, I would like to know it too.

you should make an backup of WhatsApp on your Android Smartphone. It'll generate 3 files on your phone's sdcard. Get'em and copy to your tablet's sdcard. Then do these steps.
Everything is explained on my first post.
PS.: Some are saying that it'll stop it from working on the other device. Maybe you are right. But when I made this post I could use freely in both device's at the same time. The only issue was that when I was chatting over the tablet, for example, the phone wasn't receiving any messages.

Install and run it, select Backup/Restore, select the program you want, press Backup, browse SD for it, done.
Or you could use RootExplorer as you've mentioned.
doesn't bump have an option to send apps?
if you download it from market
open root explorer
and on the root of the device
choose (Data) folder it's the 3rd folder
after cache and cdrom
inside Data there is folder called (app)
you will find all installed apps inside it
search what app you looking for
then copy it and paste to sd card
and here you go.
If you install a paid app for from 1 device to another device, you can not do a app update for that paid app, each paid app is registered to that device IME no.
willl it works

Anyone get Google Voice working yet ?

So, yeah it installed but it still hangs when setting up my voicemail grrrr...
I don't really care about "calling" just using it for texting (for my wife actually)
Running Tnt2, maybe CM6 would help ?

I think it was confirmed working in another thread. Using Titanium backup from phone to tablet.
I can't confirm this yet
hmm
I would like this mod also.
I to would love to see this working.

It's confirmed I can get to inbox. I cannot however dial out. (says no mobile signal)
Steps I took
on my evo fully installed voice (switched roms recently didn't have it installed)
used Titanium to back up the app
Copied the 3 files to my titanium folder on the g tab
Restored the app
Lauched google voice. Got to where it said configure inbox then went back back back back to exit
inbox popped right up.
YMMV

lol, no problem man
This can also be done using mybackup pro. by backing up the apk and data from a phone that voice is completely set up on. Then copy the folder from /sdcard/rerware/myBackup/allappsBackups to the same location on the tablet then restore voice using mybackup pro on the tablet.
Also if you have a copy of Google voice 0.3 it will install and setup. Then you can update to newest version.

How do you restore with Titanium Backup? I backup my google voice on my phone. It creates 3 files in folder. I copy those files to where?
And then how do I proceed on G Tablet? Do I uninstall Google Voice first or how?
1. uninstall google voice on your tab
2. backup google voice on your phone with titanium backup
3. copy the 3 files from your phones titanium backup folder to your tablets titanium backup folder
4. run titanium backup, go to "backup/restore" select google voice, restore, then App&Data
5. then open gv and do the back, back thing from above

its in there, the font may be different, and it might be at the bottom of the list.. make sure you "refresh apps list" from the titanium backup/backup restore menu..

Thanks, that did it. It was ontology of the list Instead of alphabetical order.
Easiest way I found was to remove your old google voice with root explorer and then install Version 0.3 which I found in the first post here
http://www.evo4gforum.net/htc-evo-4g-apps/google-voice-0-3-4-apk-file/
I then did the setup, and it worked. First reboot it needed to be setup again. After that it has stuck.

You can try using the backup to Google's servers under the backup and reset option, but not sure how useful it is.
[ Behold the power of Google.com ]
You can try this, but I don't know it if it works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844032

On the Samsung support site there was a program that I think was for undeleting files but also had a backup feature if I remember correctly. I did not try it as it required windows and I run Linux Mint.

whatsapp

how to install WhatsApp not having a smartphone but just a simple phone? (tab android 4.0.4)
Didn't whatsapp require to send itself a confirmation SMS? If so, it would be hard to configure it on a tablet that can't receive text messages. Although, I remember there was an unofficial web version of whatsapp... no idea how did you activate that, though.
You could activate using another number / phone, and just type the activation code back onto the Tab.
Yes. It's possible for you to install WhatsApp on non 3G devices. As example of P3110.
I've done once and it worked! I'm using Appguard + Bluestacks (for the confirmation number).

First you will need:
- Whatsapp you want to install in tablet.....First have it full running updated in your android mobile.
- Install apk Backup & restore in your mobile and your tablet.
- You must be root in android phone and tablet.
- Install root explorer in android mobile and in tablet.
- Install appguard in tablet.
- Install Go contacts ex in mobile and in tablet.
After all above is done:
Make Backup your app whatsapp from mobile and save in you SDcard tablet.
Make restore with same app in your tablet. (DONT OPEN APP Whatsapp yet).
Open appguard and secure your new app whatsapp installed........It will uninstall and install again. uncheck the option checking your phone status, inside "manage your secured app" (DONT OPEN APP whatsapp yet).
Now go root explorer in android mobile:
Copy the next files any place on your SDcard:
Data/data/com.whatsapp (full folder, with other folders inside).
(remember original permisions )
Data/data/com.android.vending/cache/thmb_com.whatsapp
(remember original permisions rw-------)
Data/dalvik-cache/ [email protected]@[email protected]
(remember original permisions rw-r—r--)
Now go root explorer in tablet SGP311:
Copy the above files on right same place and be sure give all same exactly permisions to all folders….files than original.
Replace any thing it will be asked to overwrite.
After all ready, be double sure all permisions equal than original of android phone.
Make reboot tablet.
Now open whatsapp app you already modified with appguard. (Very important be sure in appguard you unchecked the option checking phone network….) before start whatsapp. “In option manage your secure app installed”.
Now you will run whatsapp……..after running delete whatsapp from your phone android.
Some times it will crash unexpectelly, but mainly is working receiving and sending files, sms….....
Any doubts ask and I will try to solve.
Regards.
