There's really no reason to pay someone to help you root.

Do not pay someone for that. Rooting most Android phones is very easy if you can read the instructions.

I have both installed and they work fine. True, I cannot alter system files but since I'm unrooted I don't want to. Now if we had an unlocked bootloader and fully operational cwm recovery available from playstore that would be a different story.

The biggest advantage of rooting the stock ROM that comes with a Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD is the ability to manually de-bloat and forcibly remove all of the bloatware that Verizon has pushed onto the phone. By removing this bloatware, your phone will run much more smoothly, have improved battery life, and still be able to receive OTA (over-the-air) software updates pushed out by Verizon.
Of course, you can get similar (or better) benefits by waiting for custom ROMs to come out and become more mature. A custom ROM will frequently be de-bloated, plus add several additional enhancements to performance, usability, and features. However, going with custom ROMs will force you to rely on the developer community for support / updates to your phone software.
Over the long run, staying with the stock ROM that comes with your Droid RAZR Maxx HD will provide you with fewer enhancement options, but also be lower maintenance & headaches. In the long run, going with custom ROMs will give you vastly superior flexibility for defining exactly the user experience you want, but will require more time on your part to "tinker" with your phone (which may be desirable, for people that like to play with tech).
In addition to everything that was previously mentioned, Rooting will also allow:
Ad-free browsing
Some simple themes or changes (boot animation change)
Some CPU control
Phone will be able to connect to an Ad-Hoc network

It is the most important thing for me ! An android phone without Adfree (or Adaway) is not a true android phone
Also, gain real control of your phone : Titanium Backup, root explorer, OpenVPN etc...
I agree... just the benefit of not having ads is enough for me to root. I find it funny how I open apps in other people's phones and see ads I never new existed in some apps.

Agreed, I would LOVE to know if we will get root on the Ultra and Maxx before I buy one of them!
I really hope someone works on root, I would love to get this phone but I need wireless tethering!
Root will end up coming. I believe the verizon moto x will be the same root method.
Unlocked, thats the million dollar question.
I'd like to know if anyone is working on it as well...
I don't necessarily need to be able to do ROMs, but I'd like to get root to see if I can get the AOSP browser on this damn thing. I need the bookmark syncing with Chrome on my PC, but the Chrome app just blows. AOSP browser works perfectly.
I, too, assume it'll be a similar root process as the Moto X since they're almost completely identical. But the SW on the Moto X is even less modified than on our Droids, so that small difference might be part of a significant difference when it comes down to rooting. So far it looks as if you've got to unlock the bootloader of the Moto X via the moto dev site, then flash a rooted kernel. That won't translate to the Ultra because of the different kernel :/
I'm giving it the two weeks that the return policy is for root to arrive. If it isn't available by then I'll eat the $35 restock fee and get myself a 32GB S4 (and go through all the trouble again of transferring phones...). Tethering is far too important to be potentially stuck without it.

Motorola doesn't offer a bootloader unlock for this phone, so we can't go that route yet. It will have to be a real exploit with temp root if /system modifications can't survive reboots.

Took like 9 months to unlock the Razr HD, but you have the potential help of the Moto X to speed things along (All carriers). Although I don't foresee many developers jumping on the Moto X bandwagon based on the specs. I dunno, it could go either way. Good luck to you all, I'm ditching my Razr HD for a G2

Right now you have very, very little chance of getting a root. And about a bootloader unlock. I would more than likely guess that was a one time deal. So if you bought this and are waiting for a root/bootloader unlock. You are going to be disappointed.
I'm sure root will find its way. The unlocked boot loader makes me nervous though. I'm curious if something like safestrap will make its way to these phones. I'm still hoping that the combined attention of the four devices and the popularity of the moto x will get these devices an unlocked boot loader.

A little off topic - think the One has a better chance? I know HTC isn't normally your wheelhouse, but with your connections and all...
Ignore the prompt to update for now, no matter how annoying it might be. Like someone else said, with so many devices sharing common architecture root is just a matter of time. Bootloaders are a different story.

it's hard to tell.
I have the s4 which I will dump soon, as I am about 99% sure unlock is not coming.
I am keeping my s3 though.
I also have the HTC One, I DO feel we will get unlock at the least, and hopefully S-OFF.
I usually give all my phones at least 6 months before moving on.
Thinking of going to buy the moto x just for kicks as I never own moto device and the X peeks my interest, I feel I could use it and toss it around and not have to worry about it and it can take it, compared to my HTC one that's like a watch (jewelery.)
Curious to play with the different software, HTC Sense is and always has been favorite, Touchwiz grew on me greatly, and want to check out this moto x. /I usually can't live without root, but I wouldn't be using the phone activated, just to have it.
i'm sure Root will be re shortly .

There very well may be, but moto is not going to make that public in most cases. It's easier to patch in silence and not tip anyone off.

Yeah the main thing keeping me holding onto this S4 is the fact it has MDK. Otherwise I generally am liking the One better now - though the S4 camera sure can take some great shots and tends to last a bit longer on the battery. The Maxx is pretty awesome... camera is mediocre, but better once you get used to its idiosyncrasies. It's basically pure Android, so if you love sense, you might be bored with it. But if there's any phone that hiccups less than the One, it's this one. Incredibly smooth and snappy experience. And obviously great battery life... Voice controls are pretty cool, too. Not perfect, but still pretty cool
I am not the only one on this topic. I have come to a conclusion that my device (Razr maxx HD 9.30.1.XT926) won't be getting any root. Alright, what is next? What sorts of recommendations do you guys have to improve my phone? Faster Google Now response, tips and tricks? Anything to hold off till the unscheduled (at least to the public) 4.4 update.
Thanks!
Honestly, the only advantage root has vs unrooted so far as this phone goes is the complete removal of bloatware vs disabling it all. You can still disable any and all bloatware by holding the app int he app drawer, opening the app info, uninstall any updates if the option is present, then ultimately disable the junk. This will stop from phone resources being used to crapware on your phone, and will also help with the speed the phone, and of rebooting if you need to.
Lacking root, you're unable to utilize something like GravityBox to give little tweaks to your phone (one I'm fond of being the "Clear All" button in the recent apps drawer) or the Xposed Installer. Not the end of the world; GravityBox and Xposed doesn't have much outside of small quality of life tweaks for your phone. You'll live.
You are still able to install APK's from unknown sources. You are still able to use Nova Launcher to replace the disgusting Verizon phone icons (Phone, SMS, Contacts, Camera, etc) with stick KitKat icons. In fact, Nova Launcher can make your home screen and app launcher look and feel like KitKat. It's honestly very close to having KitKat itself.
Google Now is still very strong, even without the "always listening" from the home screen. My phone is rooted, but I have made no changes that would affect or enhance Google Now simply because I haven't felt the need. Mentioned above, disabling a bunch of crapware that Verizon puked onto this phone might have unforeseen performance benefits. Do your best.
Otherwise, I - like you - am eagerly awaiting KitKat to land on our phones. Having run CyanogenMod, XenonHD, BeanStalk, it's blatantly obvious that this phone is more than capable of handling KitKat without stutter. With Motorola opening their eyes about unlocked bootloaders, one can hope that after KitKat, custom ROMs will also be ported to the RAZR without all this stupid bootloader fuss.
Thank you for playing the waiting game with me.
Try out this launcher.
Be sure and choose "just once" when choosing it as home!!
A hit of home will allow the blur home back.
A safe boot will fix if you mess up, btw.
That is until you are sure it works.

I actually use Nova Prime. It has really given me some fresh air into my phone. I also love that they make your phone look closer to kit kat.
My main desire for a root is the chance to try out a kit kat ROM, due to the fact that it has such a low RAM requirement.

What he said. You're already in a spot where you cannot root.
You need root, but cannot root.
You need and unlocked bootloader to flash a rom, but you need to root first. Since you're on 9.30, you absolutely cannot root or unlock yet.

Try using Nova Launcher. Its pretty fast. Also try Power Widgets from play store.
If you like stock one then don't put too many icons and widgets on home screens. You can also try to disable animations in developers options.
If you are using Chrome turn the sync off. I find it to be more responsive that way. Google now can be slow because of search history. Try cleaning up a little bit. :good:
I disabled Google Now since I never need it and it smooths out the phone a bunch. Google Now bogs this phone down. Try it!

I can't attest that it works because my phone is unlocked, so I don't have to resort to exploits, but I've ready numerous threads that state it works. It's using an exploit within the Linux Kernel.
Sorry folks, I've been running into a snag.
I tried to apply the 9.30 update, but it doesn't take. Preliminary Googling tells me that because I've already rooted the phone, I need to flash it back to complete stock through RSD Lite or something of the sort. The internet tells me that a simple factory reset doesn't do it.
So I either do flash it back to stock, or I wait (sigh) until 4.4 comes out for the razr hd.

I'm asking what "SS" is. SuperSU?
So I don't want to take 19.6.3 since it makes a lot of stupid little changes that I dislike.

You can contact motorola to have them give you a unlock code for your phone. I actually have the Developer addition so that makes it different from yours but it should not make that big of a difference on the consumer side. It will just void your warranty. I hope that helps.
