[Q] My Htc Sensation 4 wont turn on or show charging led - HTC Sensation

HI
I am a new android user, i bought an HTC Sensation 4g from ebay, used it for a couple of times without having any issues. One day i switched it off with enough battery remaining and did not get time to use my cell again for a couple of days. Now when i turn it on, it wont power up nor would show if its charging (even the yellow LED does not come on or blink or change color), did a lot of research and tried everything i could do, Here's is what have i done so far
0) tried charging it with wall charger/computer
1) changed battery
2) left my phone connected to wall charger with the battery in
3) left the phone without battery connected to wall charger (i believe that is jump starting??)
4) factory resetting by holding volume down and power button
5) tried adb rebooting (every time i got the same message device not found)
My device is not being recognized by HTC Sync nor does my laptop show any sign of its presence.
What do i do???? please Helppp!:crying:

There are several threads on this subject, which also give advice on what to try. In your case I'd suggest either your battery has failed, best case scenario, or your motherboard has suffered instant death syndrome - in which case you might get a warranty repair from HTC if your phone is eligible.

yep i went through most of them but they have rooted or have dun sumthing, i did nothing of the sort,
i bought anker battery from ebay with my sensation, tried both my original and anker's but the phone wont power up,does this mean my motherboard is suffering from instant death syndrome(lol i m a doc myself and liked it of course the term not the syndrome itself )

Most probably, ring HTC with your serial number and they will tell you if the warranty is still valid.

My device did this once. It wouldn't even show charging light when plugged in ! But I had another full battery for a spare and tried it and it came back to life again! But you a already tried that right? I'd say then it's not the battery. Most likely the instant death. Hopefully you can return it to HTC. If not I would definitely return it to the seller and request a refund of your money! Hope this helps. Best wishes

i have same problem did u get solution to this problem?

Your phone most likely rooted
Hi your phone most likely rooted. Had the same issue when I have replaced the bootloader. Unfortunately there is no good bootloader for this phone out there for rooting that does not cause this problem. You need to unroot your phone, replace the bootloader back to original and relock the S off to S on. But im going ahead of myself. First you need to turn it on and this is how. At least its worked for me every time. There's a trick that need to be repeated twice.
1. Disconnect charger,
2.Remove the battery,
3. press power button few times to discharge all electricity that left in the phone.
4. Now its need to be done quickly press and hold power button,
5. while holding connect the battery,
6. then connect the charger.
7. Keep holding power button for 2 more seconds and release
8. wait 1 more second and press power button repeatedly until you see the green led blinking. Repeat if led does not blink.
That will jump start the relay to switch to charge mode. At that point it will charge but won't show it properly.
9.Charge for 10 to 15 minutes its need to reach 1% it does that very slowly at this point. Do NOT wait more than 15 minutes because after that relay switches off starts to release electricity back to charger overpowering it with amps.
10. After 10 to 15 minutes repeat steps 1 trough 8. This time it will turn on instead.
11. Look online for steps how to fully unroot, replace bootloader and lock the S chip. I know that the steps a little unorthodox but it Work. Hope its helps. P.S Sorry for unprofessional English im not American.

Battery died, now phone will not power back on after charging...

So the wife and I were out eating and my phone died. Came home, plugged it up and there was no red led charge indicator..... waited..... and waited.... it's been an hour now, still nothing. If I hold power the capacitive buttons just flash white and go off.
Any ideas on how to bring this thing back to life?.... I purchased from Amazon 2 weeks again and really need a phone now as I have no other phone.
Make sure you are using the original wall charger that comes with the phone.

Press the power button for 2-3 seconds and let go, wait about 5 seconds for it to turn on.....or press and hold volume down and power until the lights blink 6 times then release ONLY the power button. Hold volume button until screen turns on, then using the volume buttons highlight fastboot, press power button to select, then highlight reboot and press power again that'll get u going again

You will need to replace your phone. Search the forums and you will find a thread or two about this same problem. I had to return my phone because of the same exact problem. The only solution is to completely let the battery die and then recharge for 30 minutes to an hour and then the phone should turn on. But I highly recommend you get it exchanged because the next time you use it, it will suddenly turn off while there is still some battery left and you will have to let the battery die.
same problem. gotta get htc to replace dat shiet.
Leave it on the charger for several hours, wall charger not USB, and see if it helps.
Could be various things. But one thing that has happened to some people, on various Android phones, is that the battery voltage may have dropped too low. Not zero, but too low for the phone to take a charge. In that case, there is no way to bring the battery back to life, except with special battery meters with a "boost" function (which most of use don't have access to). Leaving it on the wall charger has brought phones back for a few people. Its a longshot, but can't hurt.
Safety circuit is supposed to prevent voltage from dropping too low like this. But its not fail safe.
I know that is not what the OP is doing, just a sidenote: Some people will suggest draining the phone until it shuts down to calibrate the battery meter Its a poor idea, for the reason that the safety circuit may not always work properly. When calibrating the meter, its more than sufficient to drain to 10-20%. The meter is not that accurate anyway, and draining to zero doesn't make it any more accurate than 10-20%.
i tried that all, letting it die. letting it charge, everything.

It comes up as apx? Have u tried
Adb devices
and
fastboot devices
While plugged in to see if either recognize it??
if one of them do than this should be a simple fix.
If adb recognizes it then
adb reboot
If fastboot recognizes it do
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
i tried adb devices and fastboot devices while plugged in and neither recognize it you gave me a sliver of hope

No worries.
Mine did the same thing. Went 100% dead. After a few random reboots the days leading up, it finally went off when I noticed it had really low battery. Never to come back on.
Not even getting the red light at the top so put it in for a repair through my Telco (Telstra), (who are apparently the authorised repairer for HTC in Aus) and the mainboard was replaced. Got it back a week later fixed.
Phone had been unlocked through HTCDev but had no issues with warranty. Obviously a hardware fault as couldn't even boot.
on other phones i find using a charger that doesn't have a removable usb cable works well, and don't try to charge it from the computer.

after one hour of wall-plugging, the unit gains some heat around the camera, but no signs of charging...damn, guess I have to ask for replacement...
eh...did you root/unlock bootloader/flash roms?
I'm kinda worried that Rogers will give me a hassle for that...although it's a battery problem...
nvm...need to work on my reading skills...so unlocking bootloader is fine....

[Q] Black screen but charging led lights up

Hi There,
Yesterday morning I went to work with a completely charged Moto G. When I arrived at work my screen was black and had become unresponsive.
The powerbutton doesn't wake up the phone, tried several times, holding it for more than 150sec. When connected to a charger (tried multipe) the charging led lights up, not blinking.
I have read on a motorola forum that this could indicate that there's insufficient power in the battery to activate the display.
However it was completely charged.
My Moto G has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted and has a custom rom (C-Rom, [ROM][AOSP][KK][12/05] **C-RoM** -4.4.2- -v6.5)
Is there anything I can try or is my phone a brick now?
Thanx in advance
The same problem
I am having the same problem too.
My moto G drained its battery until it shut down. Then i promptly went to charge it. The screen is blank and and notification light is on.
snooze1973 did u find a solution or is it now working?
PS My Moto g bootloader unlocked, stock rom, rooted and it is on the Faux123kernel
Thanks in advance
No luck Yet
No luck yet, left it on the charger for a whole night, still just the white charging led. No response to the power button.
But I refuse to believe it is completely dead. Before I had a HTC Desire S, tried many custom roms, never bricked it.
I just can't imagine what happend the day before yesterday.
Perhaps I'll try and find a more powerfull charger.

I think I found a solution. I followed these steps
1. Charge your phone via USB cable on your computer.
2. The white notification light should come on.
3. Then, do not touch any buttons on your phone.
4 The iconic Battery Logo(white background) should appear after several minutes.
Followed these steps and my phone eventually turned on
Good luck!!
Still no luck, trying a different cable (blackberry) now.
Not working for me, still just a beautiful white led indicator.
Start to think it's probably dead. Or battery thinks it's drained somehow.
Maybe anyone else has an idea?
Ok, I opened the Moto G and disconnected the battery, reconnected it after 10 sec. still no luck
Odd thing though and not very promising is that when the battery is disconnected the charging led still lights up when charger is connected.
Could this just mean that only the battery is fully drained or that the device is messed up?
Guess I going for a new one.
See if a new battery helps
Bought a new one today, so I can try and fix the other. First I will leave it for at least 24 hours.
Perhaps I will exchange the batteries at one time to see if that helps.

Black screen but charging led lights up
I am experiencing the same issue.
I bought a dead moto g for part replacement with my current moto g. Just out of curiosity, I plugged in the charger to the newly arrived moto g and observed the similar behavior.
To go further, I swapped the battery and tried to turn it on, and voila, it boots!! It has C-ROM. But it won't charge the battery any how. Its again back to
original behavior : No Screen, No Battery Charging, Only notification LED glows. I kept it on charger for whole night, but no luck.
The notification LED turns on even if I the battery is removed and charger is plugged in. What does that really mean?
Is there a probability that the charging circuit is broken? or it has something to do with bootloader, C-ROM and custom kernel? Does any one thinks reverting back to Stock ROM will help out in any way?
Same here...
Exactly the same with my little brother his Moto G 4G (1st gen) (stock rom, BL unlocked & rooted).
Solid white LED when plugged in, no other response.
The most advertised trick does not work (step 6: flashboot screen doesn't show up)
[SIZE=+1]Q28: Moto G will not power up (addition to Q16 and Q25)[/SIZE]
Plug it into the charger
Hold the VOL DOWN key
While still holding the VOL DOWN key, press and hold the POWER key
Hold both keys down for over 120 seconds. This is more than two minutes and will seem like a long time. You might want to time yourself to make sure you hold it longer than two minutes.
After holding the keys down for more than two minutes, release them.
The Flash Boot screen will display, and the Normal Reboot option will be highlighted
Press the VOL UP key and the device will start a normal reboot.
If you have tried the above and it didn't work, try this:
Plug in the phone for 15 minutes.
Proceed to Step 2 above.

It has been an hour on the charger of my Asus T100 Tablet (5V, 2A). Still no luck...
Due to the lack of other solutions, I guess all our phones are ready for RMA...
Update: an overnight charge on a 5V 1A charger did the trick. White led was gone this morning, booted normally.

i hv been facing the same problem since past 2 days, it was working gud wen suddenly it went bad. i remember using it and putting it back into my pocket & after like 10 mins wen i tried to open it, it didn't respond. i tried to hard reset it (by pressing vol down n power button) & by forced reset but it didnt work. now, i have put it on charge on a source of 5v 1A charger. i hope it works and works well. now my question is that i remember my cell was nearly 50% charged wen all of ds happened, so i wish to know that is dre some hardware problem or dead battery problem?? thnx in advance

I don't know why a USB charger and a PC connection should make any difference when the phone is not booted up.
I had the same problem. I solved it by removing the battery by opening the phone (mine was out of warranty) and taking it to repair shop where they charged the battery for an hour. Then when I put it back in, the phone rebooted normally with 10% charge.
But ever since, my battery life has deteriorated. Doesn't even last one full day. And I have had the same issue twice. I think I need a new battery.

I have a simple solution for that I have faced this issue long time ago and now I know a permanent solution. You all have usb cables in your house...just took a old one and cut it from the mini usb side..there are 4 wires...you have to care about red and black..open your moto g battery and took it off from the phone now connect the usb cable to your pc and touch the red wire to the positive and black to the negative ...just do this for 45 seconds and immediately connect the battery to the phone and connect the charger...phone will starts charging from 0 % pls do not wait to connect the switch and back cover just charge it upto 20 % the cover it up.....DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY DRAIN MORE THAN 30% AS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN LI ION BATTERIES...

Interesting, but how did you determine the negative and positive terminals on the battery flex? Can you, please, mark the attached photo of the battery of moto g to help the community?
Also, as a side note I think I discovered a solution - I connected the phone to my PC's usb 2.0 port and held the power button for 2 minutes - at which the LED blinked momentarily and then continues to shine. I left the phone connected and continued to browse for solutions to this battery charging dilemma - then about 5 minutes the LED stopped shining (and I breathed a sigh :silly: !!! becaue this is the sign of battery being charged!) and after about 30 minutes of charging I turned the phone on and it was 16% charged. Well I haven't been able to reproduce this solution (since, I have been extra cautious with the battery now!) but I would surely like to know if anyone can reproduce this solution:
1. Plug in your phone to USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with original moto g cable and confirm that the LED shines continuously.
2. Hold the power button for 2 minutes (which I discovered to be a long time if you just continuously stare at the phone!) after which you will notice that the led with blink momentarily before continuing to shine continuously. (I suggest you continue holding it for another 2 minutes after which the led will blink again momentarily)
3. Leave the power button and leave the phone attached to the port for at least 30 mins before attempting to power on.

Phone crashed and won't turn back on

I have a stock phone HTC One (M8) that has never been rooted. Today I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on. I've tried:
pressing the power button along with the volume up

I took it to the Verizon store and they said they would have to ship a refurb out to me. I wanted to check this forum to see if anyone has ideas before I get a refurb.

Simular situation - will not power up or hold charge
Im S-off and unlocked .... I downloaded the new RUU 4.4.4 and everything was fine. the next day the battery drained completely and I plugged the charging cord in. I got the battery icon in the center of the screen and 0% life. The orange light is blinking, but the battery level doesn't change. I cannot get it to power up or get into the bootloader. Once I unplug the power cable the unit doesn't power on. if the keep the unit plugged In for a power source I'm still unable to boot. I'm totally out off ideas ... can I get someone to respond to help me out in this desperate time.

Can you try a different charger and cable? The blinking orange light is what they do when they are completely dead. Starts out blinking and wont go solid until enough charge is present to actually boot the phone.
I just upgraded to 4.4.4 as well maybe 3-4 days ago. I had been able to charge the phone a couple of times without issue right up until it wouldn't turn on yesterday.
I left the phone off the charger overnight and tried rebooting again this morning, and nothing.

Try this:
Battery is fully charged, but the device does not turn on
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Press and hold the Power, Volume up and Volume down keys for 1 - 2 full minutes. The battery should re-calibrate and the device will then turn on.
or
Battery shows less than 0% charge level
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Charge the device until the LED indicator glows solid red.
Attempt to power the device on as usual. If it will not power on, press and hold the Power and Volume up keys for 10 seconds while still on the charger.
I tried this just now, nothing.
When I hook up the charger, I don't get any lights to indicate that the phone is charging.
It's like the phone is bricked, but I haven't messed with any ROMs at all. I'm completely stock and locked.

I am unlocked but am having the same problem. I've had the phone since almost launch day and it's been fine until now.....all of a sudden it won't charge. I've tried many different cables and chargers that I know work, but nothing gives.
Were you able to figure anything out? Really don't want to have to get a refurb as I don't think I'll be able to get it rooted/unlocked anymore.
edit: After letting it "charge" for about an hour I was able to turn the phone back on. It said the battery was at 30% but was draining like 2% every 15-20 seconds. Looking at the settings it said the battery state was unkown (where it usually says not charging or charging). Something is definitely doing on here, but I have no idea what. I tried rebooting to recovery from the ROM but it just shut off. Now it's doing the same thing again (0%, won't turn on). Ugh!

Z3 will not turn on no matter what

So this morning i unplugged my phone, fully charged, and used a flashlight app. Then all of the sudden my phone just went black and i have not been able to get it to do anything for over an hour and a half now. No matter what i do it will not turn on. Ive tried to power button/rockers combo to get it to turn on, nothing, Ive tried the little button in the sd card compartment, nothing.... Anyone else have this issue? I cannot find anything on the Z3 for this, only stuff for the older models... Thanks.
Hold volume up and power button until the phone vibrates. Then connect a USB cable to your computer while holding volume down on the phone. If the phone is recognised by the pc you should be able to flash your phone using flash tool and hopefully that will get you back up and running. That's the only solution I can think of. Maybe some other members might be able to help if this don't work.

Hello, my girlfriend have the same problem in his Xperia Z3. When she works his phone lying on the desk. She want call to me and the power/lock button don't work. She call to me from other mobile phone and she describe problem. After 10 seconds search in google I find a way to restart phone. She pressed little yellow switch under nano Sim/micro SD plug. Phone power down and never give up. Power button is dead, combinations : vol+ and power , vol- and power, vol+ and vol- and power also didn't work. When I plug the USB cable the charging will start normally. In screen I have a big battery icon with animation.
Maybe someone have similar problem with Z3 and know a solution??
Well if its the button, tap to wake could solve the problem till you decide to get it repaired.
It could also be a battery issue. Try charging for a few hours on a charger and then try turning on after connecting to a PC with phone drivers by holding the power button for like 10secs. That is the method used for HTC phones with similar issues.
The HTC One X had battery issues for some where it would not turn on until it was connected to thr charger for a few hours. I had, had the same issue you mentioned and tried the method mentioned above but never turned on. Repair shop tested the battery and eventually had to replace a bad mothetboard.
That is not normal and even if you could get it back from that sort of failure, you don't want this device unless it is fixed or replaced.

Still nothing. Power/unlock button is dead. Today I go to sell point (T-mobile Poland ) and leave for warranty repair. I used Xperia Z3 for 2 weeks
If you are within 14 days TMO should give you a brand new device.
I'm having the same problem too. I tried to use the flashlight app for the first time and it just completely bricked my Z3.

Just happened to me today- Xperia Z3 Compact
So last night, i left my phone to charge after reaching 5%. When I woke up, my phone won't start and it won't charge either. The LED indicator was not lighting when it is plugged.
I tried every trick:
1. Pressed down the power button in different lengths.
2. No. 1 but with the volume down key
3. Pressed down the yellow button on the sim card tray
4. Tested 5 different charger heads and different wires
5. Tried connecting to 2 different laptops to see if my phone will be recognized
I work close by a Sony Center so I was planning on passing by after work. I was already having a really bad day and my phone is not under warranty. Throughout the morning, I'd randomly check the power button if it will finally work. FORTUNATELY, during lunch, the LED indicator finally lit up! The batt was drained so I had to charge it and wait a few minutes before turning it on. Finally it's on. I don't know what the eff happened or if it is really resolved.
I'd still want to know what the hell is wrong with Xperia Z phones??
Mines 'died' twice, both times the only way I could get it to turn back on was to connect to magnetic charger dock/cable
this is really works on me.. !!! try this one.....

just do the no .3 ... and it works to me... thank u for posting this .. it helps me a lot.......
It's called the 'sudden death' bug and a small number of sony xperia phones die from it., including the Z3. It is more common in the Z3 Compact (I suffered from it and had to get it replaced). Just google sony Z3 sudden death.
Did the OP use a quick charger on his Z3? The reason I ask is that the repairer I sent my Z3C to originally said the motherboard was gone and needed to be replaced, possibly cased by current. I used to use a quick charger on my Z3C and wonder if it caused it as the phone worked perfectly for 6 weeks before dying.
There are several so called fixes and workarounds that work for some people, not all. Only a motherboard replacement fixes it properly.
Fix for Z3 not powering up / no charge LED
My Z3 would not power up and no charge LED when cable plugged in. Finally found this solution on Sonymobile support website which fixed my phone!
To force the device to restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") until the device has emitted three vibrations, and then release the OFF button. The device turns off automatically.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
If a forced restart procedure as described above doesn't succeed in turning on your device, you should try another kind of forced restart - the 2-minute restart procedure.
To force a 2-minute restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") for 120 seconds (ignoring any vibrations), and then release the OFF button.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
I had to hold the 'off' button for about 60 seconds before the phone vibrated and sprung into life - phew!
I bought mine with the broken screen so I don't know for sure what happened. Bid won for $37
The led light came on when plugged in, but no vibrations. The computer recognized it and installed as the D6633. Properties show the battery had charged to 29%, 60%, 99%.
But clicking into it just shows a blank page. No folders, drive volumes, or anything.
However if it is not hooked up to a charger or computer then as well as no vibration there is no lights either. Does get a little warm though.
Bought the new display and powerflex. Still wont turn on, no vibrations, and only shows led when plugged in.
Tried the volume up, down, power, all three, reset button in sim tray.
PC Companion can't work with it. It almost worked once but said if there was a google account and I did not have the info I would be facing the whole account lock fiasco....No thank you. Can't even get it to recognize it for that option properly anymore anyway.
Could easily connect it into fastboot mode, but getting it into flash mode took much much much more effort. But eventually I did and flashed an image with flash tool. Went fine. Flashed everything......NO CHANGE......
I'm guessing at this point maybe the board was more damaged than seems....Though it's weird how the computer recognizes it and can flash everything.
Or there is a damaged power IC, transistor, capacitor, or something.
I really hope Sony took care of this in the Z5 and it is no longer an issue in future devices. It was said in a few comments above that only a few people are affected....Yet there are endless searches and pages with a dramatic number of users facing it.

[Q] Nexus 5 - Phone Will Not Turn On & No Response When Charging

I need your help guys!
I charged my Nexus overnight and in the morning wanted to put a new rom before going to work. I downloaded and flashed [ROM][Kernel][5.0.2][LRX22G] Lollipop Dream [Linaro][Build 10][20150106] ROM via TWRP and installed GAPPS.
I setup the phone with my google account and the phone began downloading previous app purchases. Last time I checked the phone on my way to work the phone was still downloading apps. However when I got to work (15 minutes later) I noticed the phone was powered off. I tried turning the phone on, or turning the phone to recovery but I got not response. Even when I plugged the phone in to the original charger I got no visual response that the phone was being charged.
What can I do to bring the phone back?
Appreciate your help.
Do you get red flashing light when you plug it in? I'm at this situation right now but on stock. Managed to boot the phone by disconnecting the battery and booting it on power supply (plug in battery when you see google) and when it boots up, the battery isn't charging at all.
Just got it into recovery and am wiping the data but been on there for 10 mins so far.

Hi Wolverine,
No I don't get the red flashing light when I plug it in....no visual response at all. I'll try removing the battery, but I found it difficult removing some of the screws (they were pretty tightly installed).
I had that happening yesterday, but I did manage to power it up by connecting the charger and booting with both volume buttons and power. After that it behaved like it should.
No battery charging - did you try to measure it with a multimeter? I'm curious if the charging circuit failed or the battery protection. Either way, good luck with your rma.
Oh btw, how old was your nexus?

How long did you have to connect the charger for?
I didn't try measuring with a multimeter. I purchased this phone about two months ago through a Canadian Carrier (Koodo) and not through Google.
Mine was a present last March so not sure if I can get an RMA from Google! Never dropped the phone, never tampered with it and suddenly it has just refused to charge. Replaced the battery and no difference.
SOLVED!!!!
Yes, so this morning what I did was hit on the back of the phone lightly while pressing the vol+- and power button and to my surprise it turned on. Immediately I restored the 4.4.4 Nexus ROM that was backed up. I think it was a loose battery but don't want to test that rom again.
I held the power button down for maybe a minute ( to trigger a hard power off) . With volume and power it went up in a couple of seconds.
