[Q] Nexus 5 - Phone Will Not Turn On & No Response When Charging - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need your help guys!
I charged my Nexus overnight and in the morning wanted to put a new rom before going to work. I downloaded and flashed [ROM][Kernel][5.0.2][LRX22G] Lollipop Dream [Linaro][Build 10][20150106] ROM via TWRP and installed GAPPS.
I setup the phone with my google account and the phone began downloading previous app purchases. Last time I checked the phone on my way to work the phone was still downloading apps. However when I got to work (15 minutes later) I noticed the phone was powered off. I tried turning the phone on, or turning the phone to recovery but I got not response. Even when I plugged the phone in to the original charger I got no visual response that the phone was being charged.
What can I do to bring the phone back?
Appreciate your help.

Do you get red flashing light when you plug it in? I'm at this situation right now but on stock. Managed to boot the phone by disconnecting the battery and booting it on power supply (plug in battery when you see google) and when it boots up, the battery isn't charging at all.
Just got it into recovery and am wiping the data but been on there for 10 mins so far.

Hi Wolverine,
No I don't get the red flashing light when I plug it in....no visual response at all. I'll try removing the battery, but I found it difficult removing some of the screws (they were pretty tightly installed).

I had that happening yesterday, but I did manage to power it up by connecting the charger and booting with both volume buttons and power. After that it behaved like it should.
No battery charging - did you try to measure it with a multimeter? I'm curious if the charging circuit failed or the battery protection. Either way, good luck with your rma.
Oh btw, how old was your nexus?

How long did you have to connect the charger for?
I didn't try measuring with a multimeter. I purchased this phone about two months ago through a Canadian Carrier (Koodo) and not through Google.

Mine was a present last March so not sure if I can get an RMA from Google! Never dropped the phone, never tampered with it and suddenly it has just refused to charge. Replaced the battery and no difference.

SOLVED!!!!
Yes, so this morning what I did was hit on the back of the phone lightly while pressing the vol+- and power button and to my surprise it turned on. Immediately I restored the 4.4.4 Nexus ROM that was backed up. I think it was a loose battery but don't want to test that rom again.

I held the power button down for maybe a minute ( to trigger a hard power off) . With volume and power it went up in a couple of seconds.

Motorola XT 720 Start up problems

Why won't my XT720 start up?
When it is connected to my charger, the four action keys light up. Despite leaving it to charge overnight, it appears that the battery isn't charging. The phone won't start while it is charging, neither when connected to the mains or to my car power supply.
I bought a new battery without any improvement.
When I access the bootloader screen it says there is too little power in the battery to program the phone.
The phone is not recognised by my computer when connected.
The phone is running Froyo 2.2. with Dexter rom.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions......apart from binning the phone!
Thanks!
I think the phone likes to selfboot with too little charge. See if you can shut it down cleanly so it won't autoboot. It's annoying but you may have to watch it very carefully to catch it when it's trying to boot because it will drain itself back to death very quickly.

Hi Oakham, do you have any update to your case? I have the same problem now.
Yesterday, I noticed the battery bar went down to orange region (about 30%?). I plugged it to the wall for about an hour (the charging symbol showed up). Later I found out that the battery bar did not move (still stuck at orange region). Later the night, I tried to charge again (the bar was red at about 15% or less). The charging symbol showed up. Later I checked, the battery bar did not improve but declined. The phone eventually went out of battery and turned itself off.
I tried to continue to charge using both the wall outlet and PC USB. No luck. I could not even power up the phone now. Did you manage to resolve your case? Anyone got the same problem and found the solution?
I thought about buying a new battery to try, but then I saw your post, so I hesitated.
Thanks.

I've had this problem. Watching the phone closely while charging and pulling the battery whenever it starts to boot works. After about the fourth time doing this I got a battery charger from amazon for ~$5 because it's gently loving annoying.

Thanks for your advice.
So when you first bumped into this problem, how did you get it back to boot up?
I followed your advice to watch it while it's charging. When I saw the motorola logo showed up, I pulled the battery. Then I plugged it back and let it charged for some more time. Then I tried to power up the phone. The motorola logo came on and then the big battery symbol came on saying it's 100% full (but i knew it's not). Later, those 4 soft touch button lid on. This cycle repeated. And I'm clueless.
Please let me know the steps you took to recover your phone.
Thanks.

Once you get into the system use 'power off' from the menu. It won't autoboot then and you can leave it in the wall overnight. I think. A voodoo doll may work, too. It can be really frustrating, but I've been able to get out of it every time so far. Like I said, I got sick of this game and found a battery charger for pretty cheap.

Try deleting batterystats.bin and doing what M said.. can you get to open recovery and charge from there?
I also had the 'M' logo screen, stuck on-screen when the charger was connected. There is a post which suggests, for this, 'Pull battery.2) Insert battery and hit power button;3) As soon as you hit the power button, hold the volume up button down until the unboxing logo comes up.'
As my phone is still under warranty, I sent it back to see if there is a physical problem. I'll try the above suggested solution when my phone comes back from 'Motorola', whether or not it is repaired by them! I've also bought a battery charger for the phone's BP6X battery from e-Bay (£9.50, including another battery.)At least I will then know that a battery is fully charged before I try fixes.
Thanks for the other posts/replies!

In my experience OR drains faster than it can charge.

Damn!
I had about the same. Battery got drained down from 80% to 5%. Then the screen for "please plug in for charging" appeared. Some moments later the phone went dark and now I can't get it to work again. It doesn't react on the power button. Even when plugged in the charging-symbol doesn't appear. I can't turn it on. Sucks!
Any ideas?
My phone has been repaired by Motorola, under warranty, and returned after four days. Accompanying report is brief: 'Software update and screening'. Seems to be working fine.......just like a brand new phone!
This morning i find myself in the same situation. My phone have the soft keys iluminated but it didint work.OMG... what happend durring the night. So i tried to boot the phone but nothing happend, and after reading tje post on the problem i have tried to remove the battery and put`it back, tryed anothe reboot, and holdind the buttons power+vol up. Nothing worked. But when i have tried the combination power + vol up + cammera shutter and plugged the cable. at first nothing happend. but after i have relesed the buttons the logo apeared and started charging. after that i powerd on my phone normaly

Help...Dead One S will not charge

Help Please. I have been running this Trickdroid for quite some time. And thanks to such great battery life I have never seen my phone under 10%....until yesterday when it ran all the way down and powered it self off. ....now it will not take a charge tried all my different chargers even tried a rapid charger (Nex7 charger) and the charging LED never comes on. Will not even try to light up the screen when you hold the power button. I'm concerned about sending it in via TMO that they will fix it and find i unlocked and rooted it and charge me full price for my replacement. Any thoughts? Has this happened to anyone else on this ROM? Is there a way to revive it? Thanks.
Hold power button soft keys should light up then release after 3sec but it on charge and leave it there even if light doesn't come on and after awhile the light should come on

Yes mate K1llacannon is right mate i can totally confirm that.
I read from one dude with a HOS he left it sit there a full night with the charger connected and after that he could use it again. Apparently, the light will come on eventually but it will take a while until the battery has enough juice to boot the phones charging electronics. Before that, it will take power but show no indicator.
Also, i suppose it is some sort of emergency circuit that charges in the beginning and it is only charging at some minimum rate or something like that so it takes a while...

Thanks guys for the reply....I have tried this and the keys never flash and I left it plugged in all night last night and then again all morning on a different charger and still nothing,....ugh.
It now does do this when plugged into the PC: The PC will do the "durp drup" like its connected then do the tone again as if its not connected again. This cycle just keeps going. I tried to do some adb but keeps saying no device.

Try fastboot devices, adb only works when phone on and USB debugging enabled and in recovery sometimes. If it shows your device then maybe try fastboot reboot recovery or something.
My first One S was completely dead on arrival, no sign of life after charging it for 24 hrs straight with original charger (tested charger OK) and holding PWR for 10, 30 seconds and longer. Got a new one no questions asked. Not that this is necessarily the same problem you're having since yours have been running but then again I'd guess they at least test all phones so they start at factory...

[Q] Blackscreen, cant access my tablet at all

Hello, good morning.
I was using my tablet normally and left it on the desk for to cook lunch and came back finding it blacked out and doesn't respond to anything I do. Doesn't power off, nor power on, no sound, no nothing. Just the tablet as if it's closed. And no it's charged, I tried to put it on the charger as well, but nothing.
It's booted, and it's a GT-N8000.
Note: I'm a new android user.
Did the tablet recently take fall/ beating?
Try pressing the power button for about 15 seconds and seeing if it will power down so u can reboot it

This happened to me once i freaked out.. There is a tread about this somewhere.. If your having the same issue. A app (i do not remember what one) Locked up the device while the screen was off. So i opened it disconnected the battery .
Reconnected the battery put it on the charger and hold the power button 30 seconds and it Booted right up.This was on the original firmware .You can leave it unplugged until the battery is depleted totally and should give you the same results.Well its if the same issue of course..
It didn't fall or break or anything, I didn't even install any new apps lately.
I tried to hold power button forever but nothing, as if its turned off(well its possibly turned off).
How do I take out the battery what so ever?

One rare possiblity is that the battery is dead.
Use the original charger and cable and keep it connected to charging for at least 1-2 hrs and then try to turn it back on.
If the battery is fully discharged its not always possible to charge with a generic charger or generic cable.

Phone crashed and won't turn back on

I have a stock phone HTC One (M8) that has never been rooted. Today I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on. I've tried:
pressing the power button along with the volume up
Pressing power and volume down
Pressing power and volume up and down
I took it to the Verizon store and they said they would have to ship a refurb out to me. I wanted to check this forum to see if anyone has ideas before I get a refurb.
Thanks in advance!
Simular situation - will not power up or hold charge
Im S-off and unlocked .... I downloaded the new RUU 4.4.4 and everything was fine. the next day the battery drained completely and I plugged the charging cord in. I got the battery icon in the center of the screen and 0% life. The orange light is blinking, but the battery level doesn't change. I cannot get it to power up or get into the bootloader. Once I unplug the power cable the unit doesn't power on. if the keep the unit plugged In for a power source I'm still unable to boot. I'm totally out off ideas ... can I get someone to respond to help me out in this desperate time.

Can you try a different charger and cable? The blinking orange light is what they do when they are completely dead. Starts out blinking and wont go solid until enough charge is present to actually boot the phone.
I just upgraded to 4.4.4 as well maybe 3-4 days ago. I had been able to charge the phone a couple of times without issue right up until it wouldn't turn on yesterday.
I left the phone off the charger overnight and tried rebooting again this morning, and nothing.

Dodat ... Is there anyway to revive the M8 to accept the charge?

Try this:
Battery is fully charged, but the device does not turn on
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Press and hold the Power, Volume up and Volume down keys for 1 - 2 full minutes. The battery should re-calibrate and the device will then turn on.
or
Battery shows less than 0% charge level
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Charge the device until the LED indicator glows solid red.
Attempt to power the device on as usual. If it will not power on, press and hold the Power and Volume up keys for 10 seconds while still on the charger.
I tried this just now, nothing.
When I hook up the charger, I don't get any lights to indicate that the phone is charging.
It's like the phone is bricked, but I haven't messed with any ROMs at all. I'm completely stock and locked.

I am unlocked but am having the same problem. I've had the phone since almost launch day and it's been fine until now.....all of a sudden it won't charge. I've tried many different cables and chargers that I know work, but nothing gives.
Were you able to figure anything out? Really don't want to have to get a refurb as I don't think I'll be able to get it rooted/unlocked anymore.
edit: After letting it "charge" for about an hour I was able to turn the phone back on. It said the battery was at 30% but was draining like 2% every 15-20 seconds. Looking at the settings it said the battery state was unkown (where it usually says not charging or charging). Something is definitely doing on here, but I have no idea what. I tried rebooting to recovery from the ROM but it just shut off. Now it's doing the same thing again (0%, won't turn on). Ugh!

oneplusone phone dead

So I had a extreme low battery alert, where it said cannot boot until more charge.
Stuck the charger in.
Battery wasnt going up.
Now it wont turn on at all with charger in or out.
So looks like either the battery is dead (non swappable) or the usb port is broke so isnt accepting charge.
Wow the phone is only 2 months old.
any ideas? or has to be returned for repair/exchange?
luckily was only using this phone for testing roms and stuff, not daily driver.

Try plugging into charge on a low power source via USB like a PC or laptop. Anything that isn't direct to a mains socket. It can help slowly replenish the battery, just leave it be for a while.
I just had a similar experience where my phone died overnight. Plugged it into my non OPO charger that I used with my older blackberries.
It wouldn't even turn on after 20 minutes of being plugged in. I decided to use a charger that outputted more energy and it immediately turned the phone on.
My advice, try using different charging sources.

I recently had this problem. Solved it with a simple google search which brought up O+'s own help page. Press the power button for 20 seconds 5 times in succession. This simulates a battery pull (there will be a vibration) . Now plug the phone into the original charger and leave it for a couple hours at the least.
You could also try to disconnect and connect the battery. For this you have to open the phone. Here is a little tutorial https://youtu.be/xLB4fhOyvuA
Hope this will fix the problem.
Same thing happened to my sons 1+, This is the reply form CS
Regarding your issue, please try with below steps:
1) Keep the phone for 12 hours without touching and charging...
2) Charge with official charger and usb for 6 hours(after the above mentioned steps) and then
3) Pull off the usb and put back again ... and you may get a LOW battery screen again staying for 4 / 5 mins...
4) Now don't try to boot or anything.. let it charge for 1 hour or more.
5) Now finally boot your device by pressing power button for few seconds
6) Phone should boot normally...
Trying it now
