**UPDATE**JellyBean OTA In order to update to the latest OTA without losing root you need to:
Be Rooted on ICS
Use VooDoo Rootkeeper to do the following
Protect Root
Temp Unroot
Take the JB OTA
Restore Root
Enjoy being both on the latest and rooted. Remember, do not just take the update without doing both those two things as there is no root exploit currently available for JB.
This is a one-click-method so all you have to do is the prerequisites and it will do the rest for you.

How to Unroot:
Thanks shabbypenguin for posting this.
You can manually unroot your Droid by using a root file manager program (such as root explorer) and mountsystem as R/W. Then delete the following:
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/bin/su
and if it has it
/system/xbin/su

Let me fix your post so you can see how this should look.
You dropped his paypal and never linked to his original post. This is very bad form. The person who rooted your device spent a great deal of time in doing so and deserves the recognition from doing so. not some tiny ass print at the bottom like an after thought. I mean really the creator of the root gets the tiniest font at the bottom. Terrible.

Despite my strong belief that people who are interested in rooting should buy devices with unlocked bootloaders instead of expecting the magical hackers in the sky to give out free exploits (which are in short supply), I'm once again continuing to encourage bad behavior by publishing another root exploit:
http://vulnfactory.org/public/motofail2go_windows.zip
Instructions:
1. Download and extract the entire zip file.
2. Ensure your device is connected via USB and that you have installed the latest ADB drivers from Motorola.
3. Double-click "run.bat" and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. The exploit will ask you to press a button combination at one point.
If the exploit prints an error saying something like "run-as: Package 'com.motorola.bug2go' is unknown", then unfortunately you will have to wipe your data and cache partitions and try again.
This exploit should work on the Razr M, Atrix HD, Photon Q, Razr i (you might need to replace some of the binaries with x86 versions?), and the upcoming Razr HD.

Trouble
I have followed the root directions on my HD Maxx with update. I get errors when running the script that says adp is unknown command. It also says to run a bug report but I dont see anything happens. A few basic questions:
1) Do I DL drivers to phone or computer?
2) I assume other downloads are on PC.
Your computer needs the drivers.

To your computer silly . They're so you're computer can recognize your phone. Yes, everything is done from your PC
remember back in the gingerbread/froyo days and using superoneclick to root?
it had a shell root option, you could shell root, then use commands to remove apps or whatever through adb shell commands... without actually rooting the phone and having superuser installed... reboot the phone and its like your phone was never rooted... corporate apps and others like netflix would work because your phone wasnt rooted... with isis wallet out now, i'm wondering:
is there a way to shell root our razr hd without actually rooting permanently?
the reason is, i'd like to remove all this forced bloat from verizon and not be rooted so i can still use stuff like isis wallet, and my companys app, both won't work on a rooted phone.
thanks in advance

Could someone make this a little easier for a noob....i just came from a DX2 and i need to root this phone....do i download to the computer and run the bat file or the phone..?? It keeps telling adb not reconized...!!! i dont think my drivers r installing on my computer ,,,,it say MTP failed....
This is probably a stupid question, but since I am stuck...
Is that PC only?
I only have a iMAC at this moment.
Are then any OSX root options?
Thanks

What this does
It is an app you install from the market or by side loading, that has a single button that will root your device.
How safe is this?
Should be 100% safe - nothing on disk is changed besides the root binaries, so if something goes wrong, simply rebooting the device should fix up any and all issues. Let me know if you find any bugs!

Ah, interesting. Maybe I can find a workaround, but I guess turning on USB debugging isn't too difficult.
Thx! It's working ( but, the USB Debugging mode must be enabled ) at

will test on my girlfriends i5800 as soon as it´s back from service, its there for pin request issue...
First post updated with new version: will now detect when USB debugging is not enabled, and instruct you to enable it, as well as auto opening the settings page.

It should work on most Android devices. Vibrant is almost an I9000, so 99% chance it will work fine.
Two quick questions:-
1. Does USB Debugging have to selected ALL the time or just to install?
2. For other Root files i.e. 'CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1' do they require USB Debugging to install or when in use?
How to Unroot back?

USB debugging is only required to root, once rooted you can turn it off again. This is because the root (rageagainstthecage) uses the 'ADB' or android debugging bridge/daemon to work it's magic.
CF-Root is a big step further than just USB debugging or rooting - CF-Root is replacing the OS kernel on your device. So it's not really the same thing, it's a lot more extreme. And it's much more difficult to install - it needs Odin after all.
This root is very similar to the 'SuperOneClick' root, but I personally did not like the PC requirement involved, so I made this.

Sorry.. I didn't even think about unrooting. The idea is a bit foreign to me.
That said, I will definitely have the app pick up if its rooted, and change the root button into an unroot button automagically in the next ver.

Thanks Ryan.... Crystal clear.
First: I'd like to make it clear I am not claiming this process as my own. This method was created by p3droid over at the MyDroidWorld Forums. I am not a dev, just someone compiling information.
Second: This root method is originally intended for the Droid Bionic and I take no responsibility if this bricks your phone.
Third: This root was discovered by JRW 28 So give him some love with that thanks button.
If you are on 2.3.6:
Install the OTA and upgrade your phone to 2.3.6
Download the 2.3.6 root zip from HERE
Make sure you have the right drivers installed then connect your phone to your PC.
Unzip the file and then double-click "Click-To-Root.bat".
Refer to the trouble shooting step bleow the 2.3.5 method if you are unable to attain root!
If you are on 2.3.5:
Root: I used the Lazy One Click and it worked perfectly, others have had success with the full manual method.
I am a manual man, I don't use 1 clicks so I will post this the only way I know how...
Download the follow file: it contains the exploit, su, Superuser
Download exploit ---> Exploit.zip
1) Unzip contents of folder to your Desktop
2) open a command terminal and navigate to the folder (cd Desktop/Exploit)
3) type the following commands
---> adb push zerg /data/local
---> adb push su /data/local
---> adb push Superuser.apk /data/local
---> adb shell
---> cd /data/local
---> chmod 777 zerg
---> ./zerg
4) Wait for the root to be gained
5) type the following commands
---> adb shell (only type this if you are no longer in [email protected])
---> mount -o rw,remount /dev/null /system
---> cat /data/local/su > /system/bin/su
---> cat /data/local/Superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
---> chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> reboot

Important for those using Oneclick:
1.Extract the files from 1-click_exploit.zip.
2.Enable USB debugging. Do so by going into your settings, then to applications, then to development.
3.Set your connection type to charge only. You can change your connection type through the notification bar once your are connected.
4.Make sure you go to Settings, Applications, and check Unknown sources if you haven't done so already.
5.Click runme.bat while your phone is connected. Be patient and let the program do it's thing. YOUR PHONE WILL REBOOT! Do not be alarmed as this is normal. Your phone should now be rooted.
Cheers!
If runme.bat hangs after daemeon starts:
1.First make sure you have USB Debugging, Unknown Sources, and Charge only connection enabled
2.If none of these options work, uninstall your drivers and download and install one of these:
Driver-wise:
Try this if on 32-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?71c12qc4a1svqza
And this for 64-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?ysphmaz131d3an9

No wonder the computer doesnt have access to the phones internal memory it is by default set as r/o...Im gonna change it to R/W and see if that changes anything other than allowing R/W access. And after trying notta still only SD Card access like I thought, I assume there is some sorta setting we can edit though. At least that is my assumption. I used the One Click method Worked flawlessly on my device and Very Simple.

How do you root the phone using the one click method? I've downloaded the zip and extracted it. Do I just connect my phone and then click on the runme.bat? When I connect my phone, any special instructions there or just connect it as if i was going to charge it, then enable usb debugging? Please clarify. Thanks.
Enable USB debugging. Then connect your phone to the computer. In the notification area, click on "USB connection" for more options. Click charge only.
Then double click on runme.bat
Follow instructions. Be patient while phone reboots. It will say (in the command prompt window) you have successfully rooted when it's all done.
It's schweet.

ok just noticed something, upon running market been getting random restarts.
What I have tried:
SuperOneClick (all versions) <-- Siege Tanks Were Doomed
Gingerbreak <-- Just sits there
Z4Root <-- doesn't do anything
Rageagainstthecage <-- doesn't work
tried flashing Clockwork mod via tcard like works for the ZTE Blade, phone pretends like it is working then reboots and no change, trying to start using the power button and vol - yields nothing.
tried cooking my own rom with the kitchen make the update.zip file
Do adb reboot recovery
the phone comes back to the android system recovery <3e>
I select the option to do update.zip from sdcard
I get:
verifying update package...
installation aborted...
I need root access to remove the AT&T preloaded apps that won't uninstall won't stay killed and are hogging all my space on the phone (limited storage). I would also like to be able to upgrade to 2.3.7 from my current 2.3.4 and possibly make my own roms.
I have emailed ZTE Chinese support to see if I can get an non pork filled rom the Indian who answered their tech support line didn't have an answer and told me not to flash the ZTE roamer rom (if I could even find it) because it will brick my phone. They have been no help!
What am I doing wrong in the android recovery (I have tried both installer scripts)? Is there a way to rebuild the system.img from the system folder that was created in the kitchen because I might be able to rebuild it into the .bin file that the phone will accept from a sdcard with the built in update feature?
Ok so I figured out how to repack the system.img I then dropped it back into the folder and used zte-pack.exe to build my .bin file. I go to the tcard update and it fails verification...is there a signature that needs to be made? I didn't see an option in zte-pack
i got the same phone with at&t....was unable to root it either, but i only tried super one click...
good luck and share, if you find a way.
Not sure if there is away as of yet. Just did a fast search and it seems no root has been done for it yet

This is a rebranded phone in the Philippines running ICS 4.0.4, has 512mb RAM, 1GHZ core. Does anyone know what the original phone is? I've had a hard time looking for pc drivers, but was able to root it with bin4ry.

sent from my rooted Cloudfone Excite 350g
I just found out that the phone is a rebranded Mobistar Touch Cream 350.
Rooted the Cloudfone Excite 350g?
Hi mrichiem! I have the same phone but was unable to root it with Bin4ry v17, though I have installed the drivers using Moborobo and also tried with Super OneClick. What process have you made to root it? O_O I tried taking it to safe mode, but still the permission is still denied. I am searching ways to root it but since it was just released last December, I guess the company is suppressing the growth of tutorials of rooting their models. But I guess the company is expecting users to root it because of it's low internal memory. O_O Thanks.
::ROOT:: Cloudfone Excite 350g
Let me set down here exactly what I did to root my excite 350g. The files you will need are attached, but you will have to search and download Moborobo. I had to research the proper way to install the drivers as my first attempt ended up soft-bricking my phone. I had to bring it to the service center to have it repaired. Funny thing was my warranty still covered it, even though it was already rooted and I had changed the boring yellow bootanimation.
So, be warned and root at your own risk!!
Extract the files to a folder or your desktop. Turn off your 350g and remove the battery. The next step will take a bit of dexterity and timing. Plug the USB cable to your PC. Press and hold the Volume up button on the phone and quickly insert the battery. The pc will prompt you to install drivers for the device. Just direct the wizard to the MTK65xx Driver folder. Once drivers are installed release the volume up button. Open the MTK Android PC Sync Tool and select Cloudfone Excite 350g in the popup. This will install the MTK Suite Daemon on the phone. Once done, you can close the tool. Next open Moborobo which will automatically install additional drivers for the phone. Once you have done all of this, you may now proceed with rooting. I have included two versions of bin4ry in the file. Try using Root Mtk Android 4.0.4 v15 first. If this does not work, use Root MTK ICS. The phone should now be rooted.

Great!
Haha. As they were saying that the warranty will be void if you have rooted the phone. Great! Thanks! I'll try it. I hope i won't end up bricking my phone. Thanks mrichiem! :good: I will reply as soon as I have tried the method. :highfive:
Haist... after following all the instruction still after rebooting my phone dont show a super user icon. Even the computer says im already rooted

Please install this app from the Google PlayStore:
Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich
It is mainly a Linux Command Prompt Emulator that is used to do some functions such as cp (Copy), ifconfig (Get the IP address of your phone), etc.
After you installed it, please follow the instructions below:
Open the Android Terminal Emulator App.
Type: cd root
If you see something like /system/bin/sh: cd: /root - Permission denied, you are not yet rooted. And maybe that is the reason why the SuperUser app was not installed.
Are you rooting the your CM Flare? I guess this trick works only for Cloudfone350g.
Sir, exactly how many seconds does it take for you to plug the phone via usb then hold the volume up and insert the battery?? i cannot seem to get it right. i've tried a dozen times already and i still can't get it.
No sir. Im rooting the cloudfone of my friend. I already root several android phone this unit give me head ache my cm flare ia already rooted

Replying to all
HI ALL!
At first I was having difficulty with this method trying this on Windows 7. But I switched to Windows XP in order to see if there would be difference. Use Windows XP instead because I have successfully rooted my phone with that.
I just rooted my phone now, so it took me a long time to reply. It is because I tried to see if someone would verify the trick and to give further instructions to it. But then, it seems no one is willing to share. XD
So here is the reason for each step of the trick.
1. Insert the USB Cable (take note, the USB cable to the PC not to the Phone), insert the battery, then hold Volume UP. This would only take less than 10 seconds. It's aim is to force the PC to detect the MTK Preloader so that you can install it the drivers for it.
2. Run MTK Android PC Sync Tool and let it install the MTK driver for your phone. The aim is to install the "debug mode MTK driver" into your Phone so that the Root by Bin4ry would be able to copy files into your Phone's internal memory and run commands.
3. Lastly, Open moborobo and let it install the Moborobo Suite Daemon into your device. The aim is just like the #2. To add drivers that will support the rooting.
Root it with Root Mtk Android 4.0.4 v15.
I have added some screenshots as a proof Hit thanks for me and mrichiem if you have succeed!

Backup rom
Please backup rom for me, i need rom!!
I also had the same problem as I has already rooted my Excite 350g before backing up the ROM. So I had to search the net to look for a way to restore my phone in case something went wrong. And indeed, something went wrong. I ended up flashing the original Mobiistar firmware and discovered something interesting. The original camera resolution of the device is 3MP, which is what I have now. And after uninstalling the stock Vietnamese files, I ended up with 160MB of free internal memory. The site is in Tieng Viet, so use Chrome to translate the page as it loads and depend more on the screenshots than the actual instructions. As usual, flashing MTK ROMs work best on PCs running Windows XP.

Posting benchmark results before and after flashing the stock Mobiistar ROM.

Tutorials/FAQ: For best perfomances, extract the .zip to C:/
Q: What do i need to do in order to install a custom ROM?
1.Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com.
2.Flash a recovery of your choice.
3.Root using the permanent root solution flashed via recovery, found in Data/Root or select the Root menu and flash your desired thingy.
4.Flash custom ROM with no problems via recovery.
All those things are found and can be done via this tool.
Q: Hi, i just downloaded this tool, how do i use it?
First, extract the folder of the archive in the root of some partition, example above and somewhere below.
After that, run M7MultiTool vX.X.bat on windows, M7MultiToolvX.X-M.sh on MAC and M7MultiToolvX.X-L.sh on Linux.
Q: I see you talk about some M7MultiTool vX.X, is that an eXtreme edition or something?
No, vX.X will be replaced with the version from the title of the thread, this is made like this to keep things clean over future updates, so there will be no need to change things all around the thread after each update.
Q: Hi, i just bought a phone what should i do now?
Well, you firstly need to unlock your bootloader, just go to HTCdev.com and follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader.
Q: What is logcat?
Well, you can pretty much use google for that answer, but to put it short, is that thingy that tells you what is happening behind the scenes of your phone.
It is usually used for debugging and entertaiment(?).
When you report an error/bug to somebody, it will be a blessing to provide a logcat (logfile)!
Q: What is DMESG?
According to wikipedia: dmesg (display message or driver message) is a command on most Linux- and Unix-based operating systems that prints the message buffer of the kernel.
We use it for debugging purposes, providing it while reporting a kernel bug/error is a blessing.
Q: Hi, i have an unlocked bootloader, what should i do now?
Well, you should flash a custom recovery via bootloader, for that you just need to turn off your phone without fastboot activated, hold Volume down + Power button untill a white screen appears, if it appears a black one with some blue letters, you probably have a fake one
Q: What is a Custom Recovery and why do i need one?
A custom recovery is that thingy that let's you flash .zip files, use your logic and you wil get it why you need one.
Q: Do i need S-OFF on my phone?
HTC One has a nice unlocked bootloader, S-OFF is not needed as you can flash custom ROM's and kernels directly via Recovery.
Also, S-OFF is not available *YET* for HTC One.
Q:There are others guides/tutorials out there, should i check them instead of this?
If you manage to get things done using this one, no, otherwise yes, note that some could be outdated

Hi, permanent root does not work for me. It says unknown partition etc. etc. and points to the zip file in the /Data/Root
as i'm non-rooted i would like to make a backup of my phone first, then recover after the root process. can this be done successfully.....................sudeki300

I know you need adb debugging on, don't know if it will work without root, you can give it a try, if it doesn't work, you can use Helium from Google Play, can backup even on non-rooted devices, but beware, i used it and for example CSR Racing couldn't be restored, so i remained with my online save, which was waaay behind.
Hope this helps.
@Lexmazter, luckily the games i have on my phone have not been started yet. only some emulators that have some real-time saves on them, they should be easily copied back and forth from the internal memory. probably just gonna copy all files from internal to pc and then copy them back after rooting then re-install the apps \ games manually.....................sudeki300

Well, you can try the backup and restore feature, as i didn't had the chance to test it on non-rooted phones and please report your findings as it will help me to improve the tool.
Thanks
Do people still use this tool? I haven't checked it for a while and i can see it has a couple of downloads, more than i expected actually. Should i update it and add new features?
