First: I'd like to make it clear I am not claiming this process as my own. This method was created by p3droid over at the MyDroidWorld Forums. I am not a dev, just someone compiling information.
Second: This root method is originally intended for the Droid Bionic and I take no responsibility if this bricks your phone.
Third: This root was discovered by JRW 28 So give him some love with that thanks button.
If you are on 2.3.6:
Install the OTA and upgrade your phone to 2.3.6
Download the 2.3.6 root zip from HERE
Make sure you have the right drivers installed then connect your phone to your PC.
Unzip the file and then double-click "Click-To-Root.bat".
Refer to the trouble shooting step bleow the 2.3.5 method if you are unable to attain root!
If you are on 2.3.5:
Root: I used the Lazy One Click and it worked perfectly, others have had success with the full manual method.
I am a manual man, I don't use 1 clicks so I will post this the only way I know how...
Download the follow file: it contains the exploit, su, Superuser
Download exploit ---> Exploit.zip
1) Unzip contents of folder to your Desktop
2) open a command terminal and navigate to the folder (cd Desktop/Exploit)
3) type the following commands
---> adb push zerg /data/local
---> adb push su /data/local
---> adb push Superuser.apk /data/local
---> adb shell
---> cd /data/local
---> chmod 777 zerg
---> ./zerg
4) Wait for the root to be gained
5) type the following commands
---> adb shell (only type this if you are no longer in [email protected])
---> mount -o rw,remount /dev/null /system
---> cat /data/local/su > /system/bin/su
---> cat /data/local/Superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
---> chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> reboot

Important for those using Oneclick:
1.Extract the files from 1-click_exploit.zip.
2.Enable USB debugging. Do so by going into your settings, then to applications, then to development.
3.Set your connection type to charge only. You can change your connection type through the notification bar once your are connected.
4.Make sure you go to Settings, Applications, and check Unknown sources if you haven't done so already.
5.Click runme.bat while your phone is connected. Be patient and let the program do it's thing. YOUR PHONE WILL REBOOT! Do not be alarmed as this is normal. Your phone should now be rooted.
Cheers!
If runme.bat hangs after daemeon starts:
1.First make sure you have USB Debugging, Unknown Sources, and Charge only connection enabled
2.If none of these options work, uninstall your drivers and download and install one of these:
Driver-wise:
Try this if on 32-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?71c12qc4a1svqza
And this for 64-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?ysphmaz131d3an9

Anyone else try?
I'll be uploading a terminal screen in a second accessing root.

Yea I have it working and full SU Access. No wonder the computer doesnt have access to the phones internal memory it is by default set as r/o...Im gonna change it to R/W and see if that changes anything other than allowing R/W access. And after trying notta still only SD Card access like I thought, I assume there is some sorta setting we can edit though. At least that is my assumption. I used the One Click method Worked flawlessly on my device and Very Simple.
built in wifi tether

How do you root the phone using the one click method? I've downloaded the zip and extracted it. Do I just connect my phone and then click on the runme.bat? When I connect my phone, any special instructions there or just connect it as if i was going to charge it, then enable usb debugging? Please clarify. Thanks.
Enable USB debugging. Then connect your phone to the computer. In the notification area, click on "USB connection" for more options. Click charge only.
Then double click on runme.bat
Follow instructions. Be patient while phone reboots. It will say (in the command prompt window) you have successfully rooted when it's all done.
It's schweet.

If you read at the end of my original post I document what I've tried. If your really adventurous you may want to try the bionic bootstrapper but it may brick your phone... I haven't tried that yet, though the similarities between the atrix2 and the bionic lead me to believe it may work.

Right now we don't have a CWM of our own to flash. There is a possibility of flashing the Bionics bootstrap recovery but we don't know what the circumstances are gonna be. Someone could result in a bricked A2, what we need is some development help right now

what this means is simple, you can do whatever you want with this software
Instructions are simple, this uses revolutionary's awesome zergrush exploit its just a slightly modified script from my transform-ultra AIO. anyways yall might be wondering why a sprint guy is here giving yall this, well its cuz my good buddy k0nane (the one currently working on removing ciq for yall) asked me to stop by the irc channel last night. we got some of the partitions mapped out and he told me that you guys can use zergRush so here ya have it
set usb debugging on (settings > applications > development > USB debugging)
Install teh drivers
plug in your phone and let teh drivers FULLY INSTALL
extract the entire root zip file (dont just pull what you want out of it, it doesnt work like that)
run the included batch file/sh file depending on your os
linux users i know youve got it handled but for you mac users that dont understand how to do anything more then dump money in apples pockets there is a readme in there
DOWNLOAD
also to make things easier for editing i have included a nice lil script
in shell or terminal use this command
# remount rw

it will allow r/w access to /system
enjoy
version 2.0 will flash cwm for ya, just need to figure out a safe way to do it
Cool. Reserved.
fixed - was a permissions issue on my end.
fixed - was a permissions issue on my end.
please try re-running it again, if it says zerglings didnt leave anything interesting thats teh exploit failing
fixed - was a permissions issue on my end.
no adb is finding your phone, otherwise the exploit wouldnt run. its just odd that they arent leaving anything interesting. not sure why its not running the way it should, other people on this forum have said they used zergrush just fine, the reason why i posted this is so that you can have it done via script and have busybox and a remount script thrown in there.
here i had originally posted teh file with my old copy of zergrush, i had since updated teh zip with the latest from revolutionary. i reverted back to the old one try downloading it again and see where that gets ya
I ran it as administrator this time and it looks different, but I still get message about SU not found, even after rebooting phone.
ok well that time is because you didnt run it with adb.exe in teh folder
Hmm will def try this later tonight
Well, I'm sure I may be doing something wrong.
But I simply set my phone to usb-debugging and plugged in the usb cable.
Then extracted your zipped up folder and then right-click-run-as-administrator on root.bat.
ADB.exe is definitely in the same folder structure as root.bat.
hm well join the irc channel when youu get a chance we can work on this as bit more
If you are running windows vista or windows 7 and you are just right-clicking on the bat and running as administrator you are not running the adb.exe as an administrator. You should right-click on cmd.exe in the start menu, select run as administrator then navigate to the folder extracted. For instance if you saved the file in your users downloads folder then navigate to: x:\users\[user name]\downloads\Skyrocket-Easy-Root and then type root.bat and press enter. This will allow the root.bat to call adb.exe properly and will execute the process.
Hope this helps.

Glad I could help. One post in four years yes, I signed up for this site a long time ago and then promptly joined the dark side by purchasing an iPhone about a week after that. After all these years I have wandered back and can hopefully be more of more use as I learn the Android OS.
Worked perfectly for me. Quick the lengthy root process (err rather how long it takes, its just 1 click lol), but mint!

CWM ON EVERY BOOT WITH GPS WORKING
What Is This??
This is a mod to achieve ClockWorkMod Recovery on Every reboot/boot with a fully functioning GPS. So far this is the only method to have CWM On boot without breaking GPS.This methos uses IBMc PowerBoost 2.0.
Things you will need:
1. Jrummy16's BusyBox Installer (download on market)
2. Download PB-2dot0_final.zip and place on sdcard
3. Terminal Emulator (download on market)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1. Reboot into CWM using Atrix Bootstrapper and
Step 2. flash PB-2dot0_final.zip and reboot
Step 3. Once rom loads up , uninstall AtrixBootstrapper or set permissions in SuperUser for it to "denied" (i would uninstall AtrixBootstrapper after quickly setting to deny,you wont need it)
Step 4. Download Jrummy16's Busybox Installer from market,open it,and click install. You want to install latest 1.19 Busybox over 1.17 that you probably have. looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 5. Open Terminal emulator and type the following one line at a time,hitting ENTER after each line is typed:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
chmod 755 /system/xbin/powerboost
powerboost
now you should see this:
Step 6. It will ask you if you want it to install Jrummy16's BusyBox Installer,just type N for "No" and hit enter as we already installed this.
Step 7. Now it will Prompt you to select a number. type in 5. "CWR On Every Boot"
Step 8. After "Installation Complete" only takes about 2 seconds, you will type 8 for a Reboot,and type Y for yes.
Step 8. Enjoy!
If you like my work,hit the thanks button,if not,hit the back button : P
If you plan on using this in your projects all i ask is for you to simply credit me in your OP.

Question
Question. Does the bug still exist wherein the battery discharges completely and the phone is unable to regain a charge with CWM on Recovery script installed? I haven't personally experienced this because I've never let my battery drain. I've seen it posted in another thread.

I can't get the script to stick. After I do the setup and reboot, I boot into CWM like it should, but once I power off and boot again it just boots normally. I followed the directions exactly, and tried the process again, but the same results.
I assume it's because I'm not creating this script where it wants to go. Any advice or help? Thanks
I should note that I'm on stock 3.6 and have only rooted and installed the bootstrapper previously.

I typed it just as it is, and even done it in adb shell with copy and paste, but it would never create the init.d folder or the 99cwr script. So I opened root explorer to see what was going on. The system was mounted as rw, but it just wouldn't create it. So I made the init.d folder myself and ran powerboost again and it created the 99cwr script, but still, normal bootup. I guess it needs to be called during boot or whatever, but idk where to set that. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks

Installing apps without usb debugging is not possible.
But you have an another chance:
1. Follow the instructions at here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/how-to-root-install-cwm-recovery-flash-t1814801 (Install CWM Recovery)
2. Download the AROMA Filemanager (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108) and place it to sd.
3. Reboot to recovery and select AROMA Filemanager's zip, and install.
4. In AROMA go to settings and mount all partitions.
5. Delete /data/system/settings.db
6. Reboot and enjoy
If not working go to step 5. and delete /data/system.

Thanks Sir, i will try.
I know this is a old thread but I just unlocked my Tab4 10.1 with this method but I didnt have a settings.db file so just renamed the _password.key to _password.key.old and the sparepassword.key with .old as well. I was like hey what do I gotta lose anyway if I mess it up I'll just restore.. I hit exited out of everything rebooted & presto no more password.. I dont know if this would be the same if I set a pin, what the file would be called but maybe I'll set one and see just for the hell of it.. lol
Anyway just thought I'd share that you dont have to panic & lose everything by doing a hard reset..
Cheers !

Great job Keen Team! Thank you very much for your work and bringing us root! This method and exploit were found by them and orignally posted here. The purpose of this post is to simply 1) Have a dedicated post for root under OUR forums to make it easier for newer members to get their device rooted, and 2) Simplify the installation of SuperSU for those who don't want Kinguser, while also having detailed instructions so the newer/novice users don't get lost.

-Steps to a rooted device:-
1) Go to Settings -> About phone -> and verify that your Build number (or Baseband version) is "LRX22G.G920VVRU1AOC3//OE2." SW up until "G920VVRU2AOF1" will work with this method.
2) Go to Settings -> Lock screen and security and enable "Unknown Sources" (*You may turn it back OFF once you're rooted, if you'd like*)
3) Plug your phone into your computer.
4) Scroll to the bottom of this post and download "pingpongroot_<ver>.apk" (currently "pingpongroot_beta6.apk").

5) Put the APK on your device; install and then open the application on your phone.
6) Install SuperSU when the install pops up, then open it once and return (you'll get errors in SuperSU as you're not rooted yet) to Ping Pong Root and tap "Get root!" -- if your phone reboots on its own during this, open the app and try again. Once the app finishes rooting your device, close the pop up message and reboot.
~Enjoy.
-FAQ-
Q: Will this trip my Knox Counter?
A: No.
Q: Will this let me flash ROMs/Kernels and have a custom recovery?
A: No. The bootloader is still locked.
Q: Why does my device say "Custom" when booting up?
A: That just means Samsung's system checker sees the su/root. If you flash back to stock using Misterxtc's ODIN files here, then you will no longer be rooted or show "Custom." For now, until the bootloader is unlocked, deal with it if you happen to get caught by the checker.
Q: Does this work on the edge?
A: Not yet.
Q: I'm lost, confused, stuck, or getting errors that are hindering me from root access / SuperSU.
A: Post below, I can help or in the OP for the root method, here. Often your issues can be resolved just by restarting the root process from step one. On my 20th or so rewipe and root, I ran into some issues but just refollowed every step and was fine.
1 post, just in case.
This is rather exciting. I'm staring at my Note 4 which I like better than my s6, but it was never able to get root.
This may be the reason I was looking for to use my s6 over my Note4
Thanks for putting this guide together. Hopefully it should help those new to rooting. I'd add a link to the video as well.
Anyone else having trouble updating binary through chainfires su?

Unroot through the settings in chainfire's SuperSU and reroot if you're having fatal issues that are preventing root/superuser. What errors are you specifically getting with updating the binaries?
At step 10, when I type "su" I get this error:
[email protected]:/ $ su
su
[-] Connection to ui timed out
[email protected]:/ $

Open up Kinguser, and then grab a rootchecker app off of the playstore. See if you're properly rooted, if not retry the pingpongroot app.

If you have the time, I'd redo the ADB steps later. Not a big deal since your root access works, but it's nice to keep SU binaries up to date.
This is what I get when trying to install su and binaries. Please help me
I think you're missing a step in number 12. I tried your guide and got an error message so I went to the original post below, then I got it all working right.

Anyone having issues, go ahead and re-do the adb steps. My apologies.
In other news, I'll start working on a cleaned up stock ROM for you guys. Might take awhile due to school and work, but it'll be next on my list (no custom recovery, but FF flash. See Misterxtc's post here.)
I just rooted my phone and things are working great! I have two questions:
1.) Can anyone with more experience than me let me know if we can now install the Stock Samsung Browser as a system app (the stock browser has fingerprint reader as password which is awesome!) Please see the post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xy-s6-apps-t3041330/post59644234#post59644234
2.) Can we modify the build prop or anything to allow us to tether for free without use of FoxFi? I know FoxFi works, but it makes me have a passkey on my phone which I hate. I also tried to install the FoxFi certificate as a system certificate and it still required me to have a passcode for some reason.
Just looking for some guidance! Thank you!
Works awesome! Thanks!!!

Think it was cause you missed a command tryed again worked flawless cannot wait to see youre work
Is this (the superuser part) possible to do with a mac? I downloaded and extracted the ADB folder but cant figure out how to open a command prompt from the folder. (I already rooted but now trying to switch to SU)
What and where can I find the reactivation lock?
There's a hidden feature in Android 6.0, multi window. It has its warnings:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So decide if this is actually for you before following these steps
It's not shown in user builds, so we have to do some messing. You'll either need root or a custom recovery to do this, but as not everyone wants root, here's how you do it with TWRP, a USB cable, and a PC with ADB:
1. Boot your device into recovery
2. Mount your system by going to Mounts > Tick System
3. On your PC open a command line, somewhere like your desktop is useful
4. Type the following command:
HTML:
adb pull /system/build.prop
5. Open the build.prop file with your favourite (decent) editor, I recommend using Notepad++ on Windows
6. Find the "ro.build.type" line
7. Change the text after = to "userdebug" from "user"
BONUS: If you want a nicer DPI here, change the line "ro.sf.lcd_density" to your preferred DPI
8. Save the file
9. Go back to the command line and enter the following command:
HTML:
adb push build.prop /system/
10. Now open a shell doing:
HTML:
adb shell
11. Now a adb shell will open, enter these commands:
HTML:
cd system
chmod 644 build.prop
12. Reboot the device as normal
13. When the device has booted, go to the developer options
14. Scroll down to the bottom of the "Drawing" category
15. Enable multi-window and have some fun!
If you're rooted...
1. Download "Build.prop editor"
2. Find "ro.build.type"
3. Edit it to have the value "userdebug" from "user"
4. Reboot when prompted
5. When the device has booted, go to the developer options
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the "Drawing" category
7. Enable multi-window and have some fun!
Worked ! Thanks
Such a shame the Keynote didn't introduce such feature, it's stable enough. Just think of the use of the feature on a 10" tablet.
works perfect thank you !
How do you use it after enabling?

Go recent menu, on the apps beside the x there's a button to choose the top half or second half.
Multirom users can go /data/media/multirom/roms/ and edit the build prop directly there, no need to use adb. I did it without using a PC
I flashed the latest hammerhead twrp with fastboot command, it was successful, but when I reboot bootloader and choose recovery, it keeps loads forever and sometimes the screen flashes black. I tried CWM after that, it said root needed. How do you guys got recovery on M?

Nope. I tried doing the "push/pull files" and it didn't work. You can install custom Recovery with WugFresh then follow these instructions.

Can you send your build.prop to me via pm. I can make a flashable zip for you
Hello people, I have multirom installed on my nexus 5, the primary rom is 5.1.1 (LMY48B), and my secondary rom is the developer preview MPZ44Q. I want to know if it's possible to enable multi-window mode since the M preview is installed as secondary rom.
I did it. Reboot into recovery. Swap the Roms. Don't reboot . reboot into recovery again from the reboot tab. Select multiboot tab just to ensure you are OK and the M ROM is the internal.. Mount system and do what the op says. Reboot into recovery again swap Roms again . reboot system and you should be OK. Takes like a half an hour to do though
PS. NEVER FIX SU. ALWAYS SKIP
I understood that if i try to install su on the M rom, it will result in bootloop. And my internal rom is stock ROOTED. So do you think it will work ?
When i will swap the roms, the fact that my primary rom is rooted, will it cause any problem ? Thanks in advance.
Nope my primary is still rooted. And I an typing this from my secondary M ROM with multi window enabled. All you have to do is never fix su for either ROM and never boot the system with M as your primary ROM and you are ok
Help me too
